San Diego’s Best Barbecue Restaurants | Eater San Diego

"Executive chef Tim Eylens brings Texas-style barbecue to East County at this laid-back outpost — from the Cohn Restaurant Group (Coasterra, the Prado) — equipped with plenty of indoor seating, a circular bar with flat screen televisions for watching games, and a variety of meat dishes. From barbecue feasts to burgers and sandwiches, the two-meat combination plate is one of the best sellers at this joint — choose two half-pound options of beef brisket, pulled pork, hot links, or barbecue chicken breast served with Texas toast or cornbread, two sides, and house pickles and onions. Find a long list of sides to complement your order: street corn, brisket chili, a loaded baked potato, and baked beans. Be sure to ask about the daily specials for discounted barbecue plates, tacos, and burgers." - Paolo Bicchieri

"Owners Willie DePascale and Chef Hanis Cavin knew what they were doing when they opened this restaurant back in 2018. Specializing in all things BBQ including smoked meats, burgers, and a variety of sides, this Lake Murray venue is the go-to place for residents to hang out and grab some grub. Don’t miss out on the Best Mac & Cheese featuring smoked gouda, white cheddar, Swiss, parmesan and cheddar panko crust with an option to add a BBQ meat of your choice." - darlene-horn

5/5 - Amazing Place to Live! Living at The Pioneer the past 1.5 years has truly been an awesome experience! From the moment I moved in, I’ve felt right at home. The building is not only beautiful and modern, but it’s also packed with top-notch amenities that really elevate everyday living. There’s something for everyone here - - whether you want to relax, stay active, or entertain. I love taking a dip in the pool during the summer, challenging friends to a game of pool, or practicing my swing in the golf simulator room. The library and quiet room are perfect for unwinding with a book or getting some focused work done... One of my favorite spots is the rooftop — the views of the Boston skyline are stunning, especially at sunset! The rooftop grills also make it a perfect place to hang out with friends and enjoy a BBQ. The gym is well-equipped and the yoga room is a great touch for stretching or calming down after a busy day. The staff here are always friendly, welcoming, and quick to help with anything that comes up. I’ve never had a single issue with the mailroom or packages, which says a lot. Overall, the Pioneer is more than just an apartment building, it’s a community, and a place I genuinely love coming home to. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable, fun, and convenient place to live in the Greater Boston area!

I’ve lived at the Pioneer for well over a year and highly recommend it. Management and staff are kind and helpful. Maintenance is very quick and efficient. Plus, there are beautiful rooftop views, especially at sunset.

I currently live here and the maintenance team is ON POINT!!! So helpful and the staff is so kind and accommodating. Feels like a vacation every day I am here. Love the gym and the events here. They have events like octoberfest and yoga classes and doggie pool days which is so cool and a great way to connect with neighbors and meet new people! The roof deck is gorgeous and there are even grills to cook. Trash shoots on each floor which is so convenient as well!!!!

My wife and I moved in a few weeks ago. We signed sight unseen. And we were delighted that everything (except the surrounding blocks) exceeded our expectations. The common areas are amazing. Parking is a breeze. The cafe Common Grounds serves up quality. It’s easy to reserve the library and golf simulator. And the gym (amazing Matrix equipment and great free weights) is never crowded. And just 8 minutes from sunrise at Revere Beach (see today’s sunrise pic). We’ve had a variety of friends and family visit us recently. They are amazed by this place. Update: we just renewed our lease. We searched around but nothing comes close.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve been living since may, and I honestly love it! The building is always clean and feels really safe and welcoming. The managers Brenda and Abbey are awesome they truly care about the residents and are always so friendly and quick to help with anything. It really feels like home here, and I’m so happy I chose this place! and I hoping to stay here for a long long timeeee!!! Nathalia C

The staff here is lovely and accommodating. The property is beautiful and well maintained. You are updated of any changes in advance and kept up to date on various community events they are having. Moving in was made easier by the front desk staff and helped us with any issues we had. The neighbourhood is okay and has a plaza nearby and buses as well as commuter rail. The city and airport are less than 20 minutes away. Added: If you have kids or thinking about having kids still a fine place reside (other families, clean, spacious)…. However not much for kids by way of events, amenities etc no playroom or kids area. There is a park less than 10 minutes away and that is about it that is specifically for children.

My move-in experience at The Pioneer has been wonderful! Abby, the leasing agent, was extremely helpful throughout the entire process and made everything so smooth. On move-in day, I picked up my keys with Brenda she was fantastic, very informative, and went above and beyond to assist with packages and get us set up with parking. The community itself is beautiful, and the Bozzuto team here provides excellent customer service and true hospitality. The entire office staff is always so helpful anytime I call or email, they respond promptly and with care. I already feel very welcome here and can’t wait to enjoy the amazing amenities and get more familiar with the community. I’m very happy with my apartment and grateful for such a positive start here at The Pioneer!

Yelp
It's a great place to stay, especially with a family member who resides in the same complex. The place was very clean, had all the necessary amenities (minus shampoo), and was quiet. Thank you!

Yelp
Truly 5-star experience! Lived here for 5 months. Excellent location. Very well connected via public transit to Boston city : Buses, Silver line, commuter rail are all within walking distance. The apartment complex is great! Leasing, management, security and maintenance crew are all very polite and professional. Great amenities: Gym, yoga room, Lounge, golf simulator, pool, grills, roof-top. The gym is phenomenal. Best apartment gym I've ever seen! Rooftop has a lovely view of the Boston Skyline! The apartment complex has nice social events such as Comedy nights. Unfortunately, I had to move to a different state. They have a very reasonable lease-break policy. Both move-in and move-out processes were very smooth. Special thanks to Abbey and Renee for their help. A few minor cons one should be aware of (still not enough to drop a star): - Noise: There is a restaurant depot nearby and trucks keep entering it from 7am. This causes some noise if you live on that side. The property is right by Revere beach parkway, so there will some road noise. - Pets: There are a lot of pet owners here and some of them don't believe in keeping their pets on leashes inside elevators or cleaning up. However, the maintenance crew does work hard to keep the premises neat and clean. Without doubt the best apartment complex I've lived in!

Yelp
I have lived at the pioneer for about 9 months at this point and loved every minute of it. Great bang for your buck with the orange and silver line very close by it's easy to commute to the city, but also a great location with multiple shopping centers within a mile. Outside of the location the staff are incredibly kind and responsive. They also regularly schedule great events for the residents. Last but not least the amenities are amazing and make it as if you never need to leave. Again great bang for your bucks and an even better community. I would without question recommend The Pioneer to any family or friend

Yelp
They should call this place the Peeoneer or the Pissineer. Everyday without fail you will walk into the elevator to either find pee or throw up. Dog pee is everywhere in this place. It's actually horrible. Even stairs will have dog urine. Leasing has never once ever asked the residents to clean up after their dogs or have them stop pissing in the stairwells which are carpeted. I have a dog myself and I would never leave my pups urine and not clean it up. I wish I started taking pics as soon as I moved in this is just photos from the past 2 weeks. Me and other residents are amazed management hasn't dealt with this.

Yelp
Loved the building itself but management was slacking towards the end of our stay. We emailed them about our move out date and they never responded to us and then proceeded to charge us almost 7k for each month as we both didn't sign the lease which again was on them for not following through. 7k a month is seaport prices not Everett. That's absolutely outrageous. They were not transparent about how much the month to month rate was going to cost and it was outlined in our renewal it was 4k.

Yelp
I really like it here. On site parking is convenient. Ive got a great view of the city. The amenities are awesome, specifically the gym. The building also hosts various functions throughout the month, although a lot are pet centered. My only big complaints after 3 months are that the mail room is fairly messy although they do try to tidy it up. Also, my neighbor is incredibly noisy sometimes. But thats apartment living for ya.

Yelp
If you dont mind flipping the breaker on every morning because you have the a.c. on over night then this place is for you.... I don't believe the electricians did a very good job. Under construction our whole lease and couldn't even use the main parking garage entrance/exit for the majority of our stay. Also if you like to pay for amenities that you cant use do to covid-19 then this place is perfect. It is a beautiful building I will give it that, but still has some major issues

Yelp
The Pioneer has been great, the amenities, location and community really make it very easy to navigate the surroundings.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite building in the Boston area based on the amenities, location, and above all attention to detail by management and the ownership group.

Yelp
I have lived here for the last 6 months with my significant other and pup and we absolutely love it. The building was still in the works when we first moved in and things have improved so much each week. We truly love living here and feel as though the management team is always there to help in whatever way they can. The amenities are also amazing and our pup loves playing at the dog park with the many pioneer furry friends. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
PAPER THIN WALLS AND ROOF. From units 602-612, you can hear every conversation and feel every footstep as well as hear the sliding of the shuffleboard rattling across the roof. Unsure how it's even structurally legal to have such a thin layer between the 6th floor ceiling and the roof deck. People let their children and dogs sprint across the roof, which against policy, but the selfish tenants ignore it. The security is equally bad at administering the 10pm cut off for roof, as people often are up there until 4am stomping around. What's more there has been a large uptick of animal pee in the halls and elevators without any effort by the owners to clean it up.
