The Pizza Den is upping South Austin’s pie game - Review - Austin - The Infatuation

"South Austin is hardly overrun with first-rate pizza, so we bow down to the gods who gifted us The Pizza Den. The small food truck, which is open seven days a week and parked next to Knuckle Sandwich at Ants Beer Cave, makes solid pies with prices that fall just shy of the “expensive artisanal pizza” boom that’s hit other neighborhoods in a big way. The Pizza Den is a fairly classic pepperoni-and-cheese operation, but the menu has a couple of notable outliers, like an elote concoction with chipotle crema. Our favorite is the Spicy Pie, which is topped with sausage, roasted red peppers, jalapeños, and calabrian chili sauce. Get your order to go—only full-size pies are available—or eat it at one of the nearby picnic tables overlooking Ants' pickleball courts. Food Rundown photo credit: RICHARD CASTEEL Pepperoni As traditional as it gets, with a housemade red sauce that tastes fresh and has all the satisfying savory zest you expect. The Pizza Den does enhance its mozzarella with a welcome sprinkle of pecorino. Add on a cup of their ranch for crust dunking. photo credit: RICHARD CASTEEL Elote The cotija cheese, tajín, chipotle crema, and roasted garlic oil make this very salty, but it’s nice to see such unconventional flavors on a pizza. A couple of slices go a long way. photo credit: RICHARD CASTEEL Spicy Pie The Pizza Den’s MVP. It’s not really that spicy, but it is served with a ramekin of tangy calabrian chili sauce that complements the roasted peppers and jalapeños. All you hot-honey obsessives out there should add on a drizzle of the stuff for $1. photo credit: RICHARD CASTEEL Caesar Salad Their only side dish is a simple, classic caesar—romaine, parmesan panko breadcrumbs, and a flavorful housemade dressing. We aren’t complaining." - Matthew Jacobs

Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings

"Along with Knuckle Sandwich, The Pizza Den is a food vendor located at Ants Beer Cave in South Austin. You can probably guess what’s on the menu here. In addition to a few classics, there’s also an elote pie topped with olive oil, garlic, roasted corn, chipotle crema, cotija, and cilantro. " - nicolai mccrary

Located amongst breweries and wineries, not only can you get your drink on nearby, but you could enjoy a slice of heaven. Each flavor is unique in its own way.. you’ll certainly find yours. My absolute favorite was the white pie, which I opted to add pepperoni to. That lemon zest really hits home. The spicy pie wasn’t super spicy, as long as you can handle jalapeño, the sauce wasn’t much hotter than that. I highly recommend if you’re taking this to go to drizzle the sauce on your own unless you like double dipping. Each slice stood on its own and didn’t flop at all. The pizza was not greasy and had a beautiful thin crust to accompany all the flavors. The strawberry basil cannoli was a limited item. It was wonderfully balanced in terms of sweetness, each bite left you craving more. This is a great place to stop by after a little bit of Pickleball or just having a bit of drink with friends.

Google
Good pizza location for a take out pizza on a weekday or weekends. Getting here can be kinda tricky on weekdays during peak evening traffic hours but pizza is worth it. Thin crust and tasty. Ingredients are labeled and they have a choice of 4-5 pizzas 🍕. 1 dish for your sweet tooth and 1 salad for the friend who is always on a diet are available which is good considering it’s a food truck. It’s parked just outside Ant beer 🍺 . Wooden picnic tables available to enjoy the pizza while watching pickleball pizza or you can take a take out. Add on for pizzas available but prices not available on the menu. Prices for add ons vary. Didn’t see a phone number for the food truck. Parking available which shared for all restaurants and breweries here. Prices are reasonable, worth a try.

As many Austin locals know, we have slim pickings for good pizza at affordable prices. Via and Home Slice are classics, but so busy and expensive. So happy I found the Pizza Den! I love the classic pie along with the spicy pie. Crust to sauce ratio is on point. My wife loves their elote pizza which is pretty creative - I prefer red sauce based pizza but actually will choose the elote sometimes because it’s so good. Also, if anyone used to live in Boston and misses cannolis, the Pizza Den has rotating cannoli options which are so good. Also, don’t sleep on their Cesar salad too! This place is great quality and value; and doesn’t feel like an Austin trap like so many places these days.

Google
First the pizza. Even though that it’s really good it lacks flavor in the sauce. It’s literally just like red water spread it on the pizza. Good but needs more flavor. The two guys running the trailer are too good guys. It is a black trailer in front of the ant draft room.

Great location with lots of things to do around. Elote pizza is very delicious! Light and flavorful and affordable for the size and quality!

First time trying this place and wow!! Impressed! Pizza was so good! You can tell they put love and effort in what they do. We ordered the elote pizza, pepperoni pizza, and caesar salad and all was sooo good, hot and fresh! Didn't even get to take a pic 😂 but next time we will be dining in and will be taking some. The pizza den is now our new favorite pizza place😋

Google
Such a good spot! We typically split a pizza and do half + half of whatever we want. The staff is always polite and professional. We are so glad we found this spot! If you’re going to Ants - grab a beer or a root beer to pair with your order.

Google
We went to Pizza Den tonight and it was really great!! We tried the white pizza and the prosciutto pizza. Both were a 10/10 - the white pie was creamy and perfectly seasoned and the prosciutto pizza was savory and light at the same time (prob from the arugula)! Lol it was literally so good we forgot to take pics until after we had devoured our first few slices

Yelp
Such a cute neighborhood spot! Great selection of beer, ciders, THC drinks etc! There's wine and beer on tap as well! The service was great! The cashier offered us recommendations and comments on the drink we purchased. There's a gravel outdoor patio with picnic tables outside and a couple pickleball courts plus a court inside as well. We went for trivia on Monday and it was so fun! There were 5 or so team and it only lasted a little over an hour. The pizza den was the highlight! The pepperoni pizza is currently my favorite in Austin!! Plenty of cheese and pepperoni and not too much sauce. The ranch was yummy too!

Yelp
Wowza. What a great sandwich! The bread is so, so flavorful and toasty, the fillings are high quality, and the vibe is great here. We ate a lamb Sammie and a knuckle Sammie. Both really good. If I was forced to choose, I'd probably get the knuckle again. But it's close. Come check out knuckleheads. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I love this place!!! It is a great addition to The Yard. This place has some great beer on tap and a fridge with tons more options. They also have wine and cider. The service is great. The temperature is perfect! The music volume is just right, you can have a conversation with people at your table. They are dog friendly , indoors like Vacancy . They have HH prices for teachers all the time. They also have a pickleball court, if that is your thing.

Yelp
This place is fun! Really laid back with two pickleball courts. Plenty of TV's, lots of dogs, friendly bartenders. We stopped in here just walking by after being at St Elmo. It's really clean and I love the concept. We also got a sandwich from Knuckle Sandwich and it was pretty good. The chick pea tots were awesome!!

Yelp
What a fun spot! Pickleball courts, great patio and TVs inside to watch the games all with a great beer selection! We tried both the knuckle sandwich and the pizza and both were excellent. We loved the elote pizza and the spicy pizza. The original knuckle sandwich is such a great take on an Italian. We loved the parmesan crisp and the soft bread! We will be back! Highly recommend checking it out!

Yelp
One of our regular spots for beer and football. Not only are there 200+ options for beers, but you are guaranteed to have a great interaction with the staff (hey, James!), meet fun people, maybe try a new beer or snack at one of the on site or nearby food trucks (Knuckle Sandwich and Pizza Den are in the courtyard), or play a game (pickleball, big add beer pong, video games, etc). It is super chill and always fun. And teachers get HH prices all day everyday!

Yelp
Add Ant's Beer Cave to your list of St. Elmo's Booze Tour! However, unlike the other bars, this one opens until 12 AM on the weekends. Ant's Beer Cave offers a wide selection of beers on tap, as well as bottled beers and wines. It's a perfect place to try your next favorite canned drink available at grocery stores or for those wary to new drinks and seeking comfort in the familiar. Note: Cocktails and liquor are not available (yet). For pickleball enthusiasts, there are a total of 2 pickleball courts: one located outside and one indoors that can be booked in 30-minute increments. The staff here is friendly and eager to help you discover your next favorite drink. Since Ant's is new, you may even find yourself being served by the owner, Anthony, himself. On weekdays until 6 PM, Ant's offers drafts for $6 and & $1 off bottles and wine by the glass.

Yelp
YA'LL!! check it out - Ant's has over 200 selections of beverages. Excellent wine as well. Food trucks are next level. The mushroom Ruben from knuckle sandwich is mine blowing. Best dish in Austin right now IMHO. Pickle ball and friendly staff to boot. Suggest ride share to the Yard. Fun weekend walkabout

Yelp
Ants beer cave is a super cool spot to play some indoor pickleball and have some drinks with friends at the yard on st Elmo street. The owners are super nice and they have a pizza and sandwich food truck out in their patio that are both great. Both being brand new, The pizza den is good pizza with extremely friendly service, and Knuckle sandwich is the same but with sandwiches. I went to knuckle sandwich for lunch one day and they rushed my order to me because I was in a rush which I greatly appreciate. The sandwich itself was awesome and up there for best subs in Austin but you definitely pay for it as it's almost $20 after tax and tip for a 9" sandwich. Will definitely be coming to Ants often

Yelp
Really chill spot for pickleball, a game of pool, a beer or wine and sandwich/pizza. Knuckle Sandwich was really good- Barton springs mill bread and quality fillings. Staff was super nice.

Yelp
Great staff, industrial but fun atmosphere. Didn't try the food trucks but the beer was great!

Yelp
Best place on the strip at the yard! Vibes are great, open later than anywhere else. The bartenders at this spot are the best out there!!! James and Julie are especially awesome. I will continue to recommend this over all other spots. The best of the best. Also - check out their awesome food trucks! Overall, you can't beat it

Colt S.

Yelp
The selection of drinks were amazing! The food trucks outside are some of the best I've had in Austin. The staff members are amazing, super friendly, and helpful. The vibes are 10/10 for Ant's!!
