The Pizza Pantry

Google
This is place is great. The owner / pizza maker is very kind. And the pizza is really tasty- it’s a sort of full fat cheese and using very authentic meats. Because of this people may say it “runs” or is “soupy” if you let it cool a bit it won’t do that .

Erin M.

Google
I cannot express how much I love this place. I am very lactose intolerant and can’t eat pizza. However, one drunken evening I stumbled into this place and tried some of the spicy pepperoni and cheese and I did not have a single reaction to it. All of the ingredients are imported and high quality, so my body didn’t react. I have gone back many times already.

I love pizza. I really, really love pizza...and i promise this story will come back around to Pizza Pantry. Here goes: There are millions of pizza restaurants. I'm 44 y/o and I recently learned that the best pizza place I've ever eaten at, Pirate's Pizza in Reno, Nevada, closed this year. I only had their pie once, but I still remember the experience and when I learned they closed forever I rent my garments and rubbed gravel in my hair like the biblical Job. When i awoke from the nadir of the fugue of my sadness, I knew the throne could not remain empty. The Pizza Pantry is now number one. The king, the emperor, the Paramount Kneader. I mourned Pirate's pizza...and if anything ever happens to Pizza Pantry, I'll mourn them too. Incredible pizza wizard science flavor. It's just insanely good. So so so good. Staff is lovely too :)

Google
The pizza is so amazing!! We had pepperoni pizza, and they use pepperoni from Italy which is super delicious. You can tell that these employees put a lot of effort into making a great pizza!

Cecily Y.

Google
Very casual decor, but wow, the pizza... delicious! I had a slice of mushroom / veggie, and the Greek salad. This place is a gem, I will be returning whenever in Oakland.

Google
Stopped by here when I got locked out of my apartment and needed a snack. Delicious pizza!! Tried the pepperoni and it did not disappoint. Staff were also super friendly and helpful and even offered me water when they saw I was waiting.

Google
So happy to see that this place has reopened! My family and I used to go there all the time when they originally opened 6 years or so ago. They have the best pizza ingredients, the best crust and just generally the best pizza ever! It was a bummer when they closed and we were so happy to see they have reopened! Have already signed them up to cater my 6 year old's birthday this month.

Mitchell L.

Google
Worst pizza I’ve ever eaten, it was wet, extremely chewy cheese I don’t think the right cheese for making pizza? And I had to throw it away. I would say the crust wasn’t bad and the staff was nice, but please change your recipe.

Yelp
I was out doing some urban hiking yesterday and I ran across this place. The owner was taking a break out front and we had a nice chat. After learning of the high quality ingredients he uses from Italy, I ordered the "Peperoni", which is actually Hot Sopressata, later that evening through DoorDash. What a treat! I'm so glad to have discovered this place! This was one of the best pizzas ever! Thin, chewy, flavorful crust and the cheese and sopressata, plus a bit of garlic, were excellent. If you've been to Italy, you'll recognize this as proper Italian pizza. I feel very fortunate to live nearby.

Yelp
Always amazing pizza from this place one of the best pizzas I've ever had and I used to make pizzas. They have very eclectic meats and toppings that are very fresh and very tasty. Service is amazing. You could have a delivered or you can go in and pick it up. I go to get it picked up because it's right around the corner from my spot. A great local Restaurant but everybody should try it place out.

Yelp
Walked in and smelled the aroma of a real pizzeria. Talked to the wonderful owner and most of the ingredients are from Italy . From the flour to the cheeses. You must try this incredible food !

Yelp
I ordered a half veggie, half pepperoni pizza online from The Pizza Pantry and the process was very simple and straightforward. I walked with my dog to pick it up about 25 minutes after ordering and I was immediately greeted by the friendly employee. The establishment was clean and I was the only customer inside. I gave him my name and he handed me my pizza. I took my pizza home and as soon as I opened the box I was happy to see a delicious-looking pizza! The flavor was great, the crust was nice and thin and cooked to perfection. The crust has this twisted texture which is lovely. The peperoni has a little spice to it (not spicy) and paired with the veggie slices, I think it's the perfect balance of flavor that compliments one another. I will definitely be ordering this pizza again.

Yelp
WTF! The best pizza in Oakland. I'm one of those pizza snobs who only orders cheese pizza because anything else masks the true quality of it. I am stunned by how good this pizza is. How did I not find it sooner? It was perfect. Pizza is never this good anymore. Just enough body to the dough but never outweighing the cheese (I got extra cheese and think maybe I didnt have to, which is also a sign of a great pizza joint). So fresh in ways I can't even identify but your mouth just knows. I got this on DoorDash btw and not only did it keep for the ride, it was maybe better when I pulled the pizza late night -- without a reheat! I wish I could give 6 stars.

Yelp
Tasty!!! I got 2 pizzas to go for my birthday and I was not disappointed. Delicious! We did the 1/2 Cheese and 1/2 veggie combo and meat option. Solid crust and cheese was tasty. Each pizza was a good size. On the way out, the owner let me try one of his home baked cookies...soo good! It was a fun unexpected birthday treat. I'm glad we have another great pizza place in the neighborhood. I just hope I don't become addicted. Lol
google avatar

Albert Y.

Yelp
Friendly owner, solid pizza. Loved the sopressata and will definitely be back for more!
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Good pizza and friendly staff. A tad plain for a venue but the concept is good. Lalala

Julie H.

Yelp
This place is so good! I can't believe we waited this long to try it. The crust is so tender and flavorful. Plus they have a meat and a veggie special everyday and will do a half and half pizza of both specials with no extra charge. Also, dolmas

Yelp
Pizza Pantry is a gem among the town's countless pizzerias. What sets Pizza Pantry apart is their daily offerings of new and inventive pizzas with authentic and unusual ingredients. Every day brings one fresh and exciting meat pizza as well as a vegetarian option, ensuring there's something new to try each time. If you prefer the classics then there's always a cheese pizza and their take on traditional pepperoni (with hot soppressata), which is a special kind of delicious in its own right. The staff are incredibly kind and make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in and the owners' passion for their craft shines through in every delicious bite. There are a couple of chairs and tables with umbrellas for dining outside, but this is mostly a to-go operation these days. Luckily, they've usually got great tunes so you can rock out for a few minutes while your pizza finishes baking. For a truly standout pizza experience in Oakland, this place is easily one of the best!

Yelp
This little hole in the wall is a little gem. I live here and have always walked by , today I decided to stop by and try it. I am so glad I did the owner was there and was supper great. He attended me quickly and told me about the pizza I grabbed a slice and walked back home & as soon a as I took a bite I was in love. The pizza was delicious!!!!! I will be going back !! They have different ingredients weekly so I am excited to try them all.

Yelp
We recently attended an event where the Pizza Pantry had a pop-up, and I had the pesto with tomato slice, which was delicious! They had set up a really nice pizza warmer with a variety of pies, all very fresh. They even had gluten-free choices. Usually, pop-up food options at musical events are pretty bleh, but this was really good and reasonably priced, and the service was quick and friendly.

Nevaeh J.

Yelp
Got a slice of pepperoni pizza, I usually can't even eat pizza without ranch but this pizza was bomb! Definitely will be coming back
google avatar

Sonny S.

Yelp
Excellent service. Large slice of pizza. They made it fresh for me right on the spot.

Wendy R.

Yelp
They use delicious ingredients for thin crust fresh pizza dough. It's your gourmet pizza choice.
google avatar

Jean G.

Yelp
Just discovered this pizzeria that recently reopened! We got the Peperoni Hot Sopressata and it was such a nice experience! We could tell the ingredients were high quality and everything tasted perfect! I've never been to Italy but I imagine I could find a pizza like this there.

Jessica C.

Yelp
Great pizza! I love the cheese & dough they use as well as the seasonings. Unique & delicious pizza.
google avatar

Morsal S.

Yelp
The pepperoni pizza was so delicious, straight out of a pizzeria in Italy. The owner is also one of the sweetest humans I've met in Oakland, he puts his heart into his pies and it definitely shows. No other spot in the Oakland area compares. If I could give this place 6 out of 5 stars I would!

JD W.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick slice before a meeting. Best pizza I have ever had. Went back in after my meeting to buy two more pies. Outstanding.

Yelp
This is a solid pizza spot in Jack London Square. The ingredients are few but the quality is excellent. My wife and I walked here from our condo a couple blocks away for dinner. We ordered both the Saturday Specials, meat and vegetarian. We enjoyed both but surprisingly I think my wife and preferred the vegetarian. The quality of the cheese, Gouda, mozzarella, etc really stood out in the vegetarian. Even though we ordered online to go we decided to have a couple beers and eat some of the pizza inside the eatery. The owner was very hospitable and good company. Definitely our go to spot for pizza in Jack London now.
google avatar

Gabrielle T.

Yelp
Two stars for custie dedication, which was non-existent until I turned to leave and the staff suddenly realized they're here to make the bucks, not the friends. One star for the subpar, flat slice that ended up in the trash just as hastily as the purchase was made; regrettable given the level of food waste in our society! This brings us to an average of one and a half stars (I know, it's hard to believe I didn't pursue that career as a mathematician with this kind of aptitude), which I'm gonna round down on account of being hung up on when I called to ask about their vegetarian special of the day. I'm sure that there's something, somewhere, somehow at this place that is digestible but I haven't found it and I'm pretty much cool off the idea of searching and scheming to get there. Do better, folks.
google avatar

Ziyan C.

Yelp
Owner/chef is super chill and nice. No wait on a Saturday around 5pm. We were able to get an entire fresh baked pie within 5-10 minutes. * Zucchini pizza - 4.5 stars The unique thing about their pies is the crust - it's actually quite dense, moist, and buttery. I would eat it on its own as a breadstick! And even though I don't normally love pies with white sauce, this had a nice zest from the sharp cherry tomatoes, and the zucchini and herbs added great flavor.
google avatar

charles j.

Yelp
No no no no no!! Where did you guys go?!! You're the best pizza I've ever tasted!! Omg please be okay and God bless.
google avatar

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Simple, no nonsense pizza...had the Spanish pizza with green olives, manchego, ham, and spanish red sauce....what i liked about this slice of pizza was the unique toppings, great flavor, crust is more bready (not sure if i liked),,,they dab each slice with garlic butter (ala Arizmendi)...smaller slice for $3 which was enough for me but Im sure my male coworkers probably left hungry and could've had 2 more slices each. Dine in and served on paper plates...not the fastest service considering already prepared but i'm looking forward to trying other flavors and will definitely come back...already prepared greek salad and basic greens available along with packed (made in house) lasagne. Accepts credit cards.

Yelp
Officially my favorite spot to get pizza! The establishment is located in a quiet (non-busy) area of DT Oakland/Jack London. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and noticed there weren't a lot of people in the neighborhood. After walking in, I was warmly greeted by the owner and decided to learn more about his business. This establishment sells 1 type of meat pie and vegetarian pie per day (think of it as the meat-sibling of Cheese Board). This business model helps maintain the freshness in ingredients used on the pizza - and it genuinely shows in their food. Currently, their website accurately reflects which pies are sold each day (but it never hurts to call and confirm). Slices are $3, half pies are $12, and whole pies are $24. 2 slices will fill you up, but you'll probably reach for the 3rd or 4th. What I had: Meat Pizza (Hot Sopressata, roasted garlic with Chèvre Sauve): The owner uses salami instead of pepperoni, the dough to toppings ratio is perfect, the crust spirals and isn't too thin or doughy, each bite was amazing, harmonious, and enjoyable. Excellent pizza. This is the perfect artisan, thin crust pizza. Quality, affordable, filling, delicious, i'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Melynda L.

Yelp
Love the fresh pizza and salad! Really friendly good people here! I heard the lasagna was amazing but I always get sidetracked by the pizza! A friend of mine orders it to go for dinner! Also, cold beer and wine are available!
google avatar

Claudine V.

Yelp
Hunnie and I came here one Friday to try and grab a slice of pizza. We walked to this place and tried both meat and vegetarian option. I had the vegetarian option which was with Cauliflower . It was super delicious. The owner makes the crust himself and they bake the pizza as you order which was super fresh! The meat option was chicken with pesto. It was very good as well but I preferred the Vegan one. The cost is $3 a piece which is the normal price for pizza slices. They also had salads, lasagna for sale . We had salad which was very fresh and tasty. It was a good portion too. They serve all kinds of drinks except for alcohol but I heard they are getting liquor license and will soon be able to sell beer and wine. Woohoo. This place was quite busy for a Friday afternoon and I don't see why not.

Yelp
Two pizzas, served all day, one meat, one veggie. $3 a slice $24/pie... and way too close to my new place. These guys are proud of their homemade dough, their ingredients, and their sauces, and with good reason. I've yet to have anything, even combos I was on the fence about, that weren't still pretty spectacular tasting. I dunno about calling this "east coast pizza," I've lived on the east coast, multiple places, and there's nothing like this over there. But it's good, it's one of those original sort of pizzas. It's "The Pantry Pizza" style. I've never had this rolled crust dough before, but once you get to the crust, it's like you've now got a garlic knot. They also have salads and mac and cheeses and lasagna for grab and go, if anyone is opposed to the 'za. They look really good, but these two options are so enticing. It's a unique spot, and it's going to make me eat way more pizza than I'd like to incorporate into my diet. The only downside, and it's pretty big, is that it's not a place you can go and eat. It's very grab and go. It's kinda like you're in their kitchen and you want to gtfo asap. While I don't understand what's up with all the pizza EVERYWHERE here, I'm happy to have a place like this nearby.

Yelp
The Pantry Pizza doesn't exactly fill a void in the JLS area. almost every block has a pizzeria of sorts. (frozen counts, as do delivieries). everyday has a different meat & vegeterian slice (3) all posted on webpage.. . eats-soperstta. roasted zuchinni/garlic. gouda/mozzarrella cheese, spanish red sauce. -toppings just slid off the crust into my mouth, teflon crust. chewy, a first. shouldn't eat pizza at extreme angle under u like a big gulp. -understandingly, it wasn't bad. nothing was burned or blistered in the process. crumbs: -may upgrade if i even eat it slowly to enjoy it.... -not a lot seating -pizza maker looks standard.....

Yelp
Great, tasty pizza. We called and ordered the meat coppa with red bell peppers pizza ($24) to go. Pizza is 14". One size only. Waited a few minutes for pickup. It was empty around 7:45pm. It's a sit down pizza cafe with a few tables. 90's mix music in the background. Flat screen tv on the wall. Open kitchen. Large, fancy pizza oven. Restrooms are available inside. They have a small variety of bottle sodas, voss, pellegrinos, sparkling water and flavored ones. We picked up a pomegranate pellegrino ($2+) and lavender dry sparkling water ($3+). There's pre-made salad in to go containers behind the glass counter and they sell pizza by the slice as well. We got our pizza and ate at home. We love how it's just literally two blocks away from where we live. I was telling my husband how awkward and convenient to be walking to pick up pizza. Usually, we order pizza delivery or would have to drive to pick up pizzas. There were a couple changes to our pizza how it was made and wasn't told of it. It was different from the menu. There were no red sauce and no parsley on our pizza. They put some green sauce on it. It would have been nice to have to have red sauce...but we gotta say, it's still an awesome pizza. First bite was like, wow, not bad. Second bite into it, we fell in love and munched away. The taste wins even if they messed up on the toppings or ran out. The crust was perfect. It wasn't burnt. Not too thick. Not too thin. The green sauce was good. I can taste the olive oil. It was delicious. The lavender sparking water is a must get! Yum. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great place to grab lunch if you work nearby! Please note that they are closed on Mondays though. They sell their pizza by the slice, and they have both meat and vegetarian options. You can also get their daily lasagna special / mac n cheese special. They also have sub/ sandwich that you can order in advance to pick it up just in time for lunch! If your lunch time is short, and you want to grab something quick that is not a salad, this is definitely a place to try.
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
It's the first weekend (possibly first day?), so it doesn't seem like their service is fully ironed out yet, but that's understandable. Just six tables inside and three tables outside. They had a small menu that may have been limited for the opening weekend; pizzas by the slice, whole pizzas, or salads. I had three slices of pizza and liked it so much I came back a few hours later to get a whole pizza. The crust was especially noteworthy. I don't know if it falls into a particular category. It wasn't thin crust, not thick either. It didn't seem to be a NYC style of any kind. Then again, I don't know every style of pizza. I would say the toppings are more of a European style than a typical American style pizza. Great meats and cheeses.
google avatar

Parag B.

Yelp
This is the best pizza I have had in the Bay area. I'm from the East coast so I love me some ny style pizza, but pantry is delicious. The pizza tastes like there was time and love into every slice. They also have high end beer.
google avatar

Stefan T.

Yelp
Upscale pizza brought to Oakland. I had pesto and Fetta. $3 for a slice. I asked about the pizza and they said it was made with special flour from France. Ingredients are top notch. Memorable: the flavors of the toppings and the light crunch of the crust. As you should in any pizza place, order a whole pizza so that you get the freshest possible. Greek salad looks tempting for next time. Outdoor seating was pleasant and Blue Bottle in nearby in case you want to wash it down with some great coffee.
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
It didn't take long for us to find our "go-to" pizza place in JLS. Limited menu, not fast, but really good. Mostly a takeout place.
google avatar

Avion L.

Yelp
I was visiting from Houston. This was the first restaurant we visited. My son must have pizza or he will starve so the pantry was it. I had the cauliflower and my brother had some chicken. The cauliflower was bland and the chicken was nothing to write home about. The crust was over done. I do not need to go back. We left still hungry. The artisans sodas were great though.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Friendly people, pizza was yummy. Beer and wine too. Parking was easy. Nice after work gem!
google avatar

Yelp
Real, real good! The pizza is super duper delicious. I really like that the crust is chewy, the cheese is of high quality, and the topping are fresh. To top it off, Arman is extremely nice and clearly takes pride in his business.
google avatar

Yelp
We were wandering Jack London Square/Embarcadero with two hungry toddlers in the back seat, basically flustered parents looking for a quick and easy dinner SO glad we picked this spot!! We went with the meat of the day pizza, and it was DELICIOUS! Also got a Greek salad with feta cheese, and had to fight my kids for the last bite, SO good. The gentleman who helped us out was so genuine and completely helpful. He even recommended a slice for the kids. After ordering, we continued small talking. He then threw in an extra slice of the veggie pizza, on the house. (Which was also DELICIOUS!) So glad to have found this small business with fresh, delicious, kid friendly food!!

Yelp
This place is great!!! Come from SF to Oakland for a dropoff, i was starving. Come here to eat and craving Pizza (favorite food). The people that work here are super friendly and nice and better yet OAKLAND RAIDERS fans. The pizza hit the spot. I would definitely come back and eat here when I am down here. Big bonus MEXICAN COCA COLA. NUFF SAID

Yelp
The first time I ate here, I really loved the pizza. I had the meat and veggie slices and they were terrific. They aren't like the flavors of Arizmendi/Cheese Board, but use similar high-quality ingredients. I really want this place to work out since it's near where I live, but I can't overlook some SANITARY transgressions. (Also, see sanitary issues brought up by Albertino M. in his post.) I am writing this after my second visit at which I was in the lunch line and had to wait...thus allowing me time to observe the open kitchen. 1. I saw a man answer the phone, ring up a purchase on the Square tablet and then resume making pizza. No hand washing was done. 2. I saw another man dig into his pocket to give some keys to another employee and then resume making pizza. No hand washing again. 3. The man pulling pizza from the oven was sweating heavily from his brow. He then had his back turned to cut the pizza, but enough said. No one wears gloves either, but that's not an issue for me as long as there is adherence to handwashing when handling food. At this point, I got out of line. Once these sanitary issues are addressed, I will consider returning.

Yelp
We visited the Jack of All Trades market on a Saturday and ventured out to look for some affordable eats. The Pantry had 4.5 stars on Yelp so my husband and I were excited to try this place. There are seats available outside and 3-4 tables inside - somewhat of a hole in the wall joint. The owner was very friendly and accommodated to our infant and our older child. He came by often but not TOO often to ask how our food was and if we needed anything. It seems like they serve one meat and one veggie pizza each day but can make a pepperoni pie or whatever variety if requested. I had the veggie pizza of the day which was a delicious artichoke, tomato, cheese and my husband had the sausage meaty slice. I really enjoyed my slice and appreciated the owner's attentiveness and friendliness so I give it at least 4 stars but my husband did not like his burnt pizza and the fact that both our pizzas had no sauce. I don't know if the sauce was forgotten or if that's just how it was to be made(?) I do appreciate what the owner is giving to its' neighborhood. This is not a Pizza Hut, Dominos, or Mod Pizza. This is definitely an artisan pizza where ingredients are thoughtfully chosen on a daily basis and the dough is individually kneaded and baked. Do not hop in here thinking you'll get a full pie in a minutes time - he makes everything to order so if anything, call ahead! This establishment is definitely a rare treat and I am happy I was able to dine here.
google avatar

Sherrie J.

Yelp
The pizza crust here is amazing! Veggie toppings are seasonal and deliciously perfect. Each day the Pantry has a vegetarian & meat pizza & always cheese. Their salads are good. Pizzas and salad pre-orders are easy and flexible. And I am sure their catering is too because The Pantry has great customer service. They made some half-bake pizzas & I finished cooking them so hot for my guests flying into OAK. They focus on making a few dishes really, really well.

Yelp
I loved the pizza. My buddy and I went there last month to check it out. I am concerned with a few of the other reviews that talk about the cleanliness. Next time I go I will pay more attention to what the employees behind the counter are doing while handling food. Back to the pizza. I love good pizza and am very picky. I had a cheese slice and a meat slice. I loved the pizza slice with its great flavors. I was very surprised that the meat slice was just as good. I had two slices and I went back for two more. I kept one slice and took it home so I could put a fried egg on top, OMG, awesome. I've only been here once but I will go again. I hope I experience the same great pizza and don't see any bad hygiene because if I do, I won't come back either. I'll keep you posted.

Yelp
Stopped in on a recommendation. Glad I did - one of the best pizzas I've eaten in quite awhile. Had their Saturday meat special - crust is outstanding and the coppa with kale pesto sauce is unbelievable. Usually I'm not one to go beyond the traditional sauces but this was worth the diversion. Will definitely return on other days to sample the other pizzas.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
Not your standard fare. There are two pizzas each day for slices, both a veggie and a meat. I'll usually get a slice of each, and have yet to be disappointed. The flavors change on the daily and the variety is surprising. Definitely worth stopping by for a slice. When I ordered several pizzas to share with friends, the entire group was very impressed.
google avatar

Jim E.

Yelp
First time here we live 1 block from here The owner was very nice and the pizza was delicious big time!!! We will be back for sure Take the time and come eat at this place you will love it. Pizza was $25 but worth it! if that's to much for you to spend then go to Taco Bell and eat crap!! Otherwise come here!!!

Yelp
Nice to have a pizza place near home that isn't Forge and isn't named Dominos. Not that Forge is bad, because I like that place, but I don't always want to go OUT just to grab a couple of slices. The Pantry is awesome! The things others are saying about the crust is spot on, super light and tasty. I had both the meat pizza and the veggie, and they were delicious. It's also nice because you can order by the slice, and not feel obligated to eat half or an entire pizza like a fatass (because that's always what I do when I order a full pizza). They might have a couple of service issues to work out, and the place itself still needs work aesthetically, but who cares? The owners and staff are as friendly as they come, and I love that the place doesn't take itself too seriously. Bottom line, great food, great people, great addition to the neighborhood and I hope they make it!

Yelp
First time here. This place opened about 6 weeks ago. They offer 2 pizzas (one meat and one veggie) that changes daily. They also have salads and lasagna. There was no wait when I came (Monday around 4:30pm). I ordered the meat slice and the owner was nice and gave me the veggie slice as well. Both pizzas were delicious! The crust is thin, crispy, and well seasoned. The cheese was very fresh, stretchy, and tasty. No grated parmesan needed. Good food, good service. Will definitely be back!
