23 Best Hotels in Florence

"Erstwhile JK Place and Italy’s original townhouse hotel, this stylish and cultivated urban bolthole—now The Place—lies a stone's throw away from the train station and shares piazza space with the glorious church of Santa Maria Novella. A stay here feels like being the guest of an extremely cultured collector friend. The hotel was redone under local architect Luigi Fragola in 2021, but long-standing fans will be pleased to hear that the clean, contemporary aesthetic hasn’t essentially changed too much although Fragola has added pops of color (forest green, regal purple) and flashes of brass and velvet to the neutral background palette. Minibars are stocked with complimentary soft drinks and room service will deliver tea and coffee at no extra charge." - Nicky Swallow, Erica Firpo

The Place Firenze

"What's the story with this hotel? Erstwhile JK Place and Italy’s original townhouse hotel, this stylish and cultivated urban bolthole—now The Place—lies a stone's throw away from the train station and shares piazza space with the glorious church of Santa Maria Novella. A stay here feels like being the guest of an extremely cultured collector friend. Nice. What’s the crowd like?  Fashion insiders, style hounds, sophisticated globe-trotters, clued-up families, regulars who wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else in Florence Got it. And how's check-in? Check-ins are carried out in a small library over an antique desk surrounded by arty books. We can get behind that. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The 20 rooms over four floors range from the compact-but cocooning Superiors (‘intimate and cozy’) to the panoramic Duomo Rooftop Loft, but our favorites are the spacious Master Suites overlooking the piazza to Alberti’s glorious swirling church façade. The hotel was redone under local architect Luigi Fragola in 2021, but long-standing JK fans will be pleased to hear that the clean, contemporary aesthetic hasn’t essentially changed too much although Fragola has added pops of color (forest green, regal purple) and flashes of brass and velvet to the neutral background palette. Rooms have wood floors, squishy sofas and armchairs (the larger ones at least) and luxurious cashmere throws. It’s all in the detail here; top-quality bed linens are embroidered with the pretty green hotel logo (inspired by Alberti’s façade) as is the stationery and little cloth bags holding slippers and hair dryers. Good to know. How about the little things, like mini-bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth noting? Minibars are stocked with complimentary soft drinks and room service will deliver tea and coffee at no extra charge. Travertine marble bathrooms are supplied with heavy towels and robes in white or pale green and delicious Votary and Floris products. We like it. Room service and food: Worth it? The ground floor communal space includes a relaxed lounge bar and restaurant area with an open fire and comfy arm chairs, although in warm weather you will want to be outside on the fabulous terrace overlooking the piazza for your Campari Spritz. The all-day menu includes sea bass ceviche, beef tartare, and black tortelli stuffed with shrimp. And if you don’t feel like being sociable, you can order dinner on the private roof terrace which can be booked for exclusive use. A fabulous breakfast with made-to-order savory and sweet dishes is served on exquisite bespoke Ginori china. We're sold. As for staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? Seasoned Florentine GM Claudio Meli is one of the best in the business, and his Little Black Book of insider contacts, built up over many years, is second to none. The Place sells itself as a home-from-home, ‘Your Place in Florence’, and Claudio will do his best to make it all happen. ‘No’ is not a word included in his vocabulary. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Basically, whatever you want, The Place will get it for you. Yearning for a custom-made brass lamp? A phone-call to a local artisan. Traveling by car? Valet parking will whisk your wheels off to a nearby garage. Craving cashmere? Claudio Meli knows where to go. Want to dine in the company of Michelangelo’s David? Not a problem. Bottom line: worth it, and why?  Sure, prices are among the highest in the city, but the service is second to none and you get a lot of bang for your buck. And don’t be put off by the near-the-station location; Piazza Santa Maria Novella lies minutes walk from Via Tornabuoni (one of Florence’s most exclusive streets) and within easy reach of most of what you will want to see." - Nicky Swallow

"JK Place Firenze is a far cry from Florence ’s obsession with all things Renaissance. Set amid the buzz of Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, this onetime private mansion is decked out in black, white, peach, gray, and chrome, with inflections of 1950s movie stars, 1970s pop art, and ornate 19th-century architecture. The reception feels like a library, and the breakfast room is a glassed-over former courtyard with a hefty antique wooden communal table. Free drinks, fresh fruit, and homemade treats (and bubbles at cocktail hour) can be found at all hours in the guests-only lounge area. Impress your well-heeled friends by inviting them to dine on the piazza terrace, presided over by the appropriately black-and-white Basilica di Santa Maria Novella, before moving downstairs to the clubby J.K. Pink Room. Slip upstairs to your individually designed room for a divine night’s sleep, then awake ready to take on one of the world’s most historic cities."

What an amazing boutique hotel. We were treated very well from the minute we arrived. The hotel is gorgeous, the nuanced details are lovely. Our room overlooking the Santa Maria Novella Church and the plaza was incredible. Opening the terrace doors and watching the world go by was part of the ambiance. The staff was extremely attentive and beautifully handled any request we made. From recommending and making dinner reservations for us, to getting us taxis, to anything we needed. We were treated with grace and kindness.

A really lovely three days in this luxurious hotel. Stylish decor, extremely friendly and helpful staff, delicious food and drinks. We enjoyed a wide variety of breakfast options and a delicious lunch as well as cocktails from the bar. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we were made to feel more than welcomed. Worth the price.

Best experience in Florence, thanks to Place Firenze. A hotel that looks modest from exterior, provides you with 5 star accommodation and amenities, with its large and cozily decorated rooms. However when it comes to services, professionalism, care to small details, extra mile to make things easier n smoother for you, this place is nothing less than 7 star.

It’s no wonder The Place has the honor of being one of the Leading Hotels in the world! Many hotels are beautiful - but very few infuse passion into every detail. From Claudio, the GM, to his entire team, The Place team is relentlessly dedicated to ensuring your stay feels like home. Linens, food, aromas - everything is luxurious. The people are what set The Place apart from any hotel we’ve ever experienced. We can’t imagine being in Florence without The Place! The staff embodies the essence of the city, its people, its culture and its pride. Perfezione!

Tried to change my reservation for June 2025 and no one gets back to you. I must have sent them 5 emails with no response. I have never experienced anything like this. I wasn't even looking to cancel. Just wanted to change the dates and add more days. My suggestion, pick another hotel.

Location, staff, food, room... were all the best!!!! Our first time in Florence and what an amazing city with amazing food. The hotel's location made it so easy to walk to lunch and dinner and all the great shops located so closely near by. Hopefully our travels will bring us back!

We loved this boutique hotel so much 2 years ago … we came back without hesitation when we were coming back into town. If you are looking for amazing service and a hotel with CHARACTER … look no further. The location is superb on the piazza (Santa Maria Novella) and again the team at The Place Firenze is ABSOLUTELY the best. ANYTHING you need … they are on it! I just can’t say enough about this place. It’s like a home away from home.

The staff is the friendliest and most helpful. They helped us make some reservations for a local trattoria to have florentine steak and it was amazing!! Also helped us get a room earlier than expected. Location is also amazing, walking distance from train station. Will definitely be coming back!
