Google
Awesome experience if you enjoy outdoor seating. The food was of high quality. The patrons of the restaurant were familiar, you can tell it wasn't their first visit. They came prepared. It's BYOB, you can bring beer, wine, if anything stronger, drink responsibly. The special clams are amazing, along with the lobster and corn. Oh, and let's not forget the tree stump seating, Such a plus to my experience.....

Google
Bring cash. Bring your own drinks. They have the Lobster 🦞 and chicken 🍗 and steak 🥩 and corn 🌽. It’s awesome. Wild atmosphere with huge fire pits in the middle of what seem to be tents from a midddlivil times festival. You sit on tree stump stools and they serve the table. When I was there, 7pm in the middle of June, there are people and families and groups of friends young and old having as much fun as me everywhere I look. I enjoyed every minute of it. Parking is tough, be ready to circle.

Google
This place is laidback and awesome! BYOB & Sides. Pull up a stump and enjoy the ambiance. Great dining experience but not fancy! Only thing I could pick on was our food order cam out at various times not all together but I got over it and I’d highly recommend The Place!

Google
The real attraction at this place is the place itself. Outdoor seating, wood fire, friendly staff all over the place. Loved this as a Friday night dinner , the food is decent though nothing to write home about. The corn was a standout as were the clams. It can get busy here so come early or be prepared. They also encourage bringing outside food and beverages.

Manisha G

Google
This place on of a kind. If you are looking for a unique and tasty experience this is the spot! Special shout out to Shannon who was a gem & gave great recommendations. The seafood here is fresh. It is byob & they allow to bring almost anything else as well, highly recommend.

Google
This place is truly great. The food is fresh and cooked literally right in front of you on the BEST set up I’ve seen. It’s all outside - with massive fires. The seating is fun. You sit on a tree stump around a table. They do NOT have any side dishes- so you know in advance that you can bring your own. People were there with coolers full of food and alcoholic drinks to accompany their meal. Definitely worth a visit.

Google
The Place Restaurant absolutely lives up to its name — this is the place to go for an incredible dining experience. The food was outstanding, full of flavor and beautifully presented. From appetizers to dessert, every dish was made with care and quality ingredients. The service was equally impressive — fast, friendly, and very attentive. The staff made sure we were comfortable and checked on us often without being intrusive. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions. Clean interior, relaxing music, and just the right lighting — it felt like a home away from home. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to friends! What’s your must-try dish at The Place Restaurant? I’d love to hear your favorites!

Google
I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Place Restaurant, and it was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere is incredible with outdoor dining, where you sit on tree stumps, adding a rustic charm to the experience. Everything is cooked outdoors in an impressive 18-foot fire pit. The setup is simple but executed flawlessly. The food was cooked to perfection. One of the unique aspects is that you're allowed to BYOB and even bring your own side dishes if you prefer. This flexibility adds a personal touch to the meal. The surprise star of the menu was the Veggiebab, which came with a balsamic glaze that was simply divine. The chicken was perfectly cooked and moist, and the salmon was outstanding. The grilled corn, already slathered with butter, was perfect. Overall, the food was fantastic, and the entire experience was a lot of fun. I definitely plan to visit again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique dining experience.

Yelp
Ok plain and simple it's what's best described this gem of restaurant plain and simple is FRESH. From seating out on the fresh air to the fresh food that they serve

Mike Z.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise on our road trip! A friend had been to this restaurant before and said they had a great clam dish. We stopped by on a drive and tried a bunch of items off of the menu. My friend was right, as the clam special was quite delicious! The grilled steak was quite good too. However, other items were just OK, and our key like tart dessert was a bit odd as it was a very sweet tart with somd lime syrup. Overall still a decent place to eat given the outdoor seating and nice ambiance!

Yelp
My husband grew up in Guilford and I have always wanted to come here to visit! I'm not a big seafood girl, but recently have gotten brave and decided this summer would be the time to visit! It's completely outdoor seating where everything is cooked over a wood fire! It's absolutely iconic and a shoreline staple! I have to say I wasn't blown away by the food in any means, but the vibes are fun and perfect for a summer night with friends! We tried a bunch and split everything from the ribeye, clams, lobster and of course the corn. The corn cobs were my favorite and we asked for mine extra charred :) Our server was a complete gem and answered all our stupid questions. I was really excited to try the clams but unfortunately, they were a little too fishy for me. I'm just not a seafood girl! The ribeye was good but at $36 I think I could have made the same thing at home - there wasn't anything special about it. You definitely need to like seafood to eat here!! We really liked that they're BYOB and you can even bring your own snacks and sides. We saw families even have a tablecloth they brought! Get comfy and come for the shoreline summer vibes!

Michael W.

Yelp
What a fun and cool concept! Bring your own snacks & drinks, pick an outdoor table, order some seafood. Some tables have plastic chairs others are literally just tree stumps - so this may not be for everyone! But our group was comfortable and stayed for 2-3 hours. The roasted corn was so fresh and the char on it really made it even more enjoyable. I also had the steamers which was a large portion. I tried the mussels and I would recommend those over the steamers. Both were great tho. I also tried bites of the chicken and veggiebob which were also great. I felt like the size of the chicken for the price wasn't really worth it. Finished things off with an ice cream Sunday which hit the spot. Service is great all around, everyone working there was friendly. Really a great atmosphere for large groups of friends and family. Would definitely come back again. Maybe a little more prepared with side dishes next time.

Daniella M.

Yelp
Fresh, High Quality, Delicious seafood. You can taste the smoky wood flavor in the steak especially. Bring your own sides and alcohol is a great concept. The corn on the cob is drenched in butter so good. Save room for dessert the mud cake is a 10/10. Definitely a unique experience. You sit on wood stumps but I did see some people bring their own camping chairs!

Laura L.

Yelp
Cute little outdoor place with tree stumps and plastic chairs for seating. The menu is small but has everything you could need. W got a roasted lobster and corn and V & I shared the roasted shrimp, vegebob, and a steak. The food was all excellent and cooked well, served on paper plates that worked fine for the most part. If you're getting a steak, maybe pack a plastic plate? Dessert was hot fudge sundaes (yum!) and key lime mousse (also yum). Service was great and seems like a fun place for a larger group. It's BYOB and cash only so hit your own ATM to avoid the fees.

Dawn L.

Yelp
I live in this town and cannot get enough of the Place. Once you put your rump on a stump you will never look at outside dining the same . It is truly a unique experience. The staff the owners they work as a team like no other. The food is phenomenal limited but enough to cover all. There is nothing that I would not eat there. FYI the clams veg kabobs, shrimp and the roasted corn are must haves!!! BYOB but that's fine you can roll a cooler right on it and the rest speaks for itself. Never disappointed never!

Jim W.

Yelp
This has been on my bucket list for some time. It's been on several food shows and looked like fun. Great time. If you're in the area, you need to check this out. It is rustic and bare minimum. It's BYOB. I brought a cooler with an assortment of beverages. Order the Clams Special, delish. Roasted Corn, asked mine to be burnt - came at the perfect char. Three 1 1/4 lobsters. It was a beautiful day and a great meal. Staff was friendly and attentive. Wife already said we'll be back but will stay in the area overnight to come more than once!

Pat C.

Yelp
Tough to explain! Bring a plastic table cloth. Bring your own beverages and mugs if you wish! Ring your own sides. And simply enjoy open pit cooking and a fun friendly environment.

Norman C.

Yelp
A unique memorable and VVG summer seafood place. The grilled shellfish is just out of this world.

Matthew H.

Yelp
It isn't fancy, but the food and service are great, and the setting is nice. The corn on the cob is to die for, and the roasted clam special is very satisfying. I particularly like the combination of the clams and the cocktail sauce.

Philip T.

Yelp
A timeless summer classic. I stumbled upon this "Place" looking for a late lunch and was blown away at the setting, flames cooking the food, and the seafood heavy menu. An incredible rustic setting to sit outside and relax. They're open seasonally, and it's byob. I had steamers, grilled corn, hot peel and eat shrimp and a grilled lobster. Can't wait to go back with friends or family! People there were very friendly too.

Alexandra C.

Yelp
Left here still hungry due to the lack of sides (but you can bring your own!), but the meal was fun and delicious. The log seats are actually comfortable! Sure it gets smoky when very crowded (probably want to avoid until this Canadian wildfire situation is done!) but this place..pun intended... is one of my TOP picks in CT. A must visit. The corn is very good-- much more flavorful on the cob than ordering it in a bowl. The bluefish was the most tender, flavorful ever. Salmon was delicious -- no sauce needed. Little one loved his BBQ chicken. (very good sauce) Fish portions are good and price is fair. Next time I'll try that sundae :)

J D.

Yelp
Amazing! Loved the roast clam special - the best bbq clams I've ever had!! Can't wait to go back. WishI didn't live so far away. Quick and nice service. Very casual atmosphere, you do sit outside on a stump :) corn was good too but wow the clams!

Kristina C.

Yelp
Great place!! A bit far ,but will be back in the late spring for a girls weekend and night out

Suzanne A.

Yelp
Put your rump on a stump. Good casual outdoor place that allows BYOB and BYO side dishes. Roasted clams, corn and veggie kebabs are some of my favorites. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty as it's likely to happen here between the outdoor setting and the small paper plates and napkins. Friendly and fast services. While located on rte 1 isn't the best location, take a seat towards the back to avoid the road view. Little bit pricy for what it is but still a good time. Cash or check only payment and an ATM is on premis.

Jason P.

Yelp
All couples have these conversations. You read something, and say, "This place looks really cool. We should go sometime." I don't remember the specifics of when, and who said what, but I remember years ago that my wife and I both thought "The Place" in Guilford looked awesome. So it's fitting that, as we decided to plan date nights this Summer without our son (but with Pasta the Dog), that our first 45 minute trip was to The Place. I wonder if a plainer name -- The Place -- has ever been attached to such a unique experience. Seat yourself outside on a tree stump. The plating leans toward the paper, rather than the fancy, side. The Place is so dog friendly that an owner stopped by to give Pasta the Dog two biscuits. Service was great in that way. Pro tip -- cash or check only. When the server arrives, order your choice of fire-roasted seafood, steak, corn and/other veggies from the giant menu display. It's the only menu you'll get. This isn't your backyard grill fire. This is an F-I-R-E fire. The grill is wide, and the flames flash high. I tried the clam special (clams grilled with a cocktail sorta sauce), the shrimp, the Veggie Bobs, Key Lime Mousse and maybe the star of the show - the husk on, corn on the cob. All fire-roasted. Everything was well executed. The liquid in the clam shells sizzled as they arrived atop a metal grate. The clams tasted fresh. They were essentially braised in the cocktail sauce, and they combined to form something greater than the sum of the parts. The hot peel your own shrimp with cocktail sauce were also very good. You taste the wood fire in the seafood and corn. Of course the key lime mousse, with that graham cracker crust, was tasty. The Place is CT-one of a kind. I highly recommend it. Lobster and/or steak might be the best play by the way. However, those orders seemed difficult to manage while we took turns leashing an enthusiastic 85 pound Dog-Child who loves human food. Next time. Five Stars This is my 500th Yelp Review. On my "pastathedogctjp" Instagram Food Blog, I posted a reel commemorating our experience at The Place. Cheers.

Tracy B.

Yelp
It's always a great time at The Place. Father's Day was busy, but we only waited a few minutes for a table under the tent. (It was hot & sunny). Our waitress was prompt & friendly. We ordered corn, excellent! Roasted Clam specials, delicious!! & Steamers, good. You can BYOB and even food (like salads, etc to go along with your meal. Some people bring tablecloths, etc. they offer different size Stumps for seating, but they do have plastic chairs available as well. The owner visited our table & was super friendly. The staff posed for some cooking photos. Casual. Fun & delicious! Put your Rump on a Stump!

Shagail S.

Yelp
Very unique experience. Must hurry to save seats. BYOB yes!!! lol very good corn!! Very good shrimp. BBQ Chicken without the bones. Steak was good!! Bland but good!! Will definitely go back!!!

Amaré S.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! My friend recommended it and it did not disappoint. A group of 10 of us were on a road trip back to NY and stopped for lunch here and were all raving about how much we miss BBQ and a down to earth place to eat. The shrimp, veggie bobs, clams and corn were delicious and we didn't get the steak but we joked that we'd take the train up another day just to try it. We have some foodies in the group and all of us were so satisfied with our orders. The atmosphere feels very simple, friendly and humble which you don't experience much in NY food establishments. It felt very homey to a group who all live far from home. In the chaos of a 7 hr road trip, I forgot my wallet and the owner was kind enough to mail it to me the next day. Super appreciative and will definitely be back when in the area!

Nancy A.

Yelp
Cool spot, FYI BYOB, they do not have a liquor license, Food is excellent, except the ribeye can use some seasoning, Loved the Clams, Lobster & Corn on the Cob, a bit pricey but food is so good, bring your own chairs if you don't want to sit on the tree stumps, outdoor eating so wear comfy clothes & footwear & go on a nice day, gets packed so get there early, fun spot, great to go in a group.

Dan O.

Yelp
The Place is a unique outdoor restaurant where everyone sits on a tree stump and everything is grilled on an open fire. There really isn't any other restaurant like this in the area! My personal favorites on the menu are the house special roast clams and the BBQ chicken breast. The servers are also very friendly, and you can also bring in outside food and beverages.

mike t.

Yelp
Four stars because I need to taste more offering. What my partner and I did have. Was quite good. 1.Started with the grilled corn; so sweet, charred just right and the butter.... Well butter is always good. 2. We shared the Roasted clams it comes with their "special sauce" that was tasty, but if you are a clam aficionado stick with plain roasted. 3. The steamers. Excellent, succulent, with a wonderful brine and grilled taste that really hit the spot. Not small, not to big just the right size and shucked quite nicely. So no worries about your fillings being in jeopardy. Even though they belonged to her, she was kind enough to share.... 4. I had some steamed shrimp, nicely seasoned, in the shell legs included- just beheaded. I sucked down the entire prawn! 5. I tried the catfish, basically wrapped in foil and steamed with seasoning. It was good but if you're not on a diet my pref for catfish is fried!! That was about first foray into The Place, and after a few years of me wanting to try it out, it happened on Father's Day! The service was attentive, looking mostly like young Lacrosse player boys on the grill, and female soccer athletes tending to the main importance... cash and service. Loved the ambiance, casual and cool. Only outdoor seating picnic tables or bistro with wood block seats. Met a couple as we were finishing up. They came PREPARED!! They had a table cloth, their own side dishes ie. salads, more veggies, chips. Etc etc. they also brought wine. THIS IS A BYOB AFFAIR. SO BRING YO SHYT!!! All in all. I will be sure to return... great date spot and family place to see. The only downside.... No water views, or ocean breeze. But it's not far away. Seasonal

Lucy N.

Yelp
Came here with a group of coworkers for a company outing without a reservation in the middle of the day and we had an awesome experience! It's BYOB, so we brought some drinks and sides to share. I was really looking forward to the clam special which I had seen many photos of online, and it lived up to the hype. I couldn't stop chowing down on those. I also ordered a veggie bob, which tasted delicious. The flavors were really brought out from the grill and the balsamic glaze was divine. The service was also excellent. They sat us in the shade, which made the experience very comfortable. I can't wait to bring more people here once the weather warms up again.

Kevin L.

Yelp
Food was good. Atmosphere was very, very loud. You could not carry on a conversation with the people sitting across from you in your party.

Diane J.

Yelp
Very cute and kitschy place in Guilford! We drove all the way here on one of the last warm nights in Connecticut and sat on fat wooden logs while the grills teemed with fresh seafood. We shared their house special clams, corn, and mussels. The buttered corn on the cob is a must-try.

Madison M.

Yelp
My mom and I were trying to find a fun outdoor place to eat on our mother-daughter day and were thrilled to have chosen this gem! It's completely outdoors under a huge red and white striped tent (explains the awkward red lighting) where you seat yourself and dine on delicious clam bake fare while atop literal stumps as seats! For those who have back concerns, there are normal, backed seats as well. The menu is on a huge outdoor sign, and you get to watch everything as it's being made - so cool! The food was delivered in tinfoil wraps or, in the case of the clams, right on the hot grate. It was delicious. We shared a clams special (a dozen small clams cooked with cocktail sauce), muscles in wine and garlic (not really able to eat the broth like a soup as you would elsewhere due to the tinfoil), catfish (we asked and it's farmed - made light with lemon and pepper), and a veggiebob (kabob consisting of mushrooms, green peppers, zucchini, squash, and onions cooked in a red wine vinaigrette). Everything was light, cooked well, and exactly how I'd imagine a clam bake to taste! Everyone working was young and adept, our server attentive. It's BYOB, you eat off paperware, and are allowed to bring in outside food and items. We sat next to a family birthday party group who had a table cloth, bottles of wine, and all sorts of appetizer pickings; very fun and informal! And while they take cash or check only, they do have an ATM. Overall, it was a perfect summer lunch location. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in the area!

Nicole R.

Yelp
Unique, outdoor, casual dining! Get the special clams! You'll want to order more because they are incredible. Grilled to perfection and flavorful. You sit on tree stumps (some plastic chairs around). It is BYOB and pet friendly! Score! You can bring a table cloth and your own sides as well. It is a limited but delicious menu. The lobster was small unfortunately but loved it. The veggie kabobs are really good and the steamers... wow! The grilled corn is SO good. We usually get two rounds - one as an app and another with the meal. I love this place for the cool summery vibe, good food, decent service and its just different than anywhere we typically go. It is cash or check only. They have an atm. Check me out on Instagram @date_night_craves

Cassie C.

Yelp
A fun spot to come with some family or friends! All outdoor seating (lots of tables under a large tent or in the open) with fun stumps or chairs to sit on. It is BYOB, and you may also bring any sides or other food that you'd like to accompany your meal here! My stepmom and I split the rib eye steak (it's a large one!) and half a dozen shrimp. I also got the corn in the cob which was so sweet and yummy even without any butter or anything added! The shrimp were quite tasty; you get a little wooden fork to peel back the shell on there and dip it in a tasty cocktail sauce. We got the ribeye cooked medium and it was very tender and juicy. All of our food came out very quickly and tasted great. They are only open for dinner during the warmer months, so come on by and try it out!

Alex P. T.

Yelp
Went today for lunch and loved it so much- I am writing this before the night ends. Check out my pics. Delicious barbecued food in a very laid-back, awesome, outdoor setting. It's like you're on a farm almost! We ordered Bbq'd clams, lobster, salmon, corn, veggie kebabs, bbq chicken and the amazing, juicy Rib Eye Steak. We packed our own beverages and found the perfect table. All wooden tree stumps for your rumps. Love it. The servers were all great and so helpful with recommendations. Pro tip- most definitely try their signature Roast Clam Special! Buttered and sauced and put back on the grill- omg! So good! These littleneck clams are roasted directly over the fire until they open up and the Roast Clam Special is dressed with a cocktail sauce and a buttery mixture and then put back on the fire to roast in the flavor. The Veggiebob has mushrooms, onions, yellow squash/zucchini and bell peppers steamed on a skewer in balsamic vinaigrette. The lobsters are boiled at first but you can choose to have a Roasted Lobster, which is then cooked over the fire to give is a smokier flavor. It is served whole, cut and cracked, with melted dipping butter. Amazing. The BBQ chicken is a 10 oz boneless chicken breast cooked with their favorite BBQ sauce--this was the best piece of chicken I have ever had in my life! Yes. Indeed. We ended with the Mississippi Mud Cake--and it was so worth it! This is seriously a fun, outside, old school fun place to eat. Parking was plentiful for us. You can bring a table cloth if you like and also different sides--but really their Roasted Corn is so good--you don't even need a potato. I'll also say--without the starches/carbs on their menu-- you can really enjoy all of their selections without going it a food coma. That's nice for a change! I will 100% be back again this summer! Wow. Super impressed and happy.

Marney R.

Yelp
This rustic dining experience is a must when visiting the area. We had another perfect meal yesterday while dining on tree stump seating. The oyster special is always a must when we come. It's roasted oysters topped with butter and cocktail sauce. They are a favorite. We tried the mussels this time also. For our main meal we ordered the salmon and chicken with roasted corn. Whenever I cook chicken on my grill it so hard to cook it fully without burning and they seem to get it right each time. The corn is also roasted on the open flame and the flavor is so delicious when cooked this way. We didn't get the lobster this time but it's definitely a must but messy without the usual tools. It is a BOYB place which is nice for us to have what we want. We also like to bring our own sides like salad etc.

Christina B.

Yelp
Very overrated - went here over the summer and had a sampling of the seafood. The best part of the meal were the sides that we brought ourselves. People are drawn to the ambience which is fine but not somewhere I feel I need to go back to

Heather G.

Yelp
Spur of the moment idea to go to their opening night this year as our first time ever going! Service was great despite forgetting one of the things we ordered which is the one thing I could've been fine without. We decided to go big since we drove over an hour and half to get there on a night we had worked all day. We order the corn, ribeye, lobster, mussels, clam special(unless you really like clams and hot cocktail sauce I'd pass), and half dozen shrimp. So the shrimp are cooked to order and served with cocktail sauce so i let my shrimp cook down as to me cocktail sauce is for cold shrimp. The mussels were very good and served with drawn butter and broth. Lobster can't be boiled or boiled then roasted we chose to roast ours (doesn't really change the flavor). It was delicious as i only eat the claws and my other half eats the tail. The ribeye is not a butchers nice cut it's a rough cowboy on the plains cut but i love globulous fat and the cook on it medium rare was great (definitely salted liberally myself at the table). This place is literally no frills just food. I can hang with that some times. Corn was good could have used more butter. Am i the only one who thinks drawn butter is practically tasteless??? The clam special i was excited for until i ate one and it's basically basted with cocktail sauce and fired which equals hot ketchup on clams and is just not my flavor. Overall I'd say the environment was fun due to sitting on stumps and just being outside. They have a tent pull for when it rains which would probably be an interesting experience to have. It's not fancy and it's fun.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Nostalgic with campfire smells and a friendly staff. Every time we are back in CT the place is on our list.

Emily H.

Yelp
The food at the Place is simple but DELICIOUS (especially the roast clam special)! The service is quick and super friendly, and there's no better place on the Shoreline for casual outdoor dining.

James G.

Yelp
It's been around to long!! the clams on their grill was the worst I've ever had over price ! would never go back again. Everything we ordered was over cooked or cold it's only a place you want to try yourself to know

Josh B.

Yelp
The one-of-a-kind setting feels like it could be a friendly refuge in a dystopian movie like "The Revenant" or "The Postman" where the protagonist takes a break before the final battle. It was fun to observe a group that didn't know what they were getting into at first - "no fries?" - but seemed to warm up to the concept when the massive pile of roasted corn reached their table. The roasted clam special is compulsory, narrowly preferred over the roasted lobster. First-timers should try to get the direct hits of fire with one of these items, and corn absolutely, but if you're fortunate enough to make a return visit, the bluefish (prepared in foil) is also worthwhile.

Camille S.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place it is so much fun you can bring your own plates baked potatoes, wine soda, beer set your place settings and they do the cooking the best steak corn on the cob clams on the half shell. It's such a party bring people it's amazing.

Joyce L.

Yelp
Place: This place a new experience for me! haha I love how this place is called the place (gets a little confusing but also funny). They have great outdoor seatings where you sit on log stumps and in the middle there are a huge grill. Service: The service was good! They come by frequently to see if we needed to get waters filled or if we wanted to order anything more. Food/price: The food was amazing! The quality was A +. we got the clams, corn, and salmon. Other people in our table also ordered different types of foods. The food is pricer but so worth. Audience: Great for big groups! Super fun date idea as well. I went for my friend's birthday. Recommend/tips? I highly recommend and would love to come back. I am not sure if the outdoor seating will be open in the winter time.

Dorrie B.

Yelp
Oh, boy, was this ever fun and delicious! Fun because it's all outdoors, and you're seated on tree stumps (there are plastic chairs with backs if needed). The grill are flaming away in the middle of the area, and the menu is a giant sign nailed to a tree. We started with a dozen grilled clams with sauce. I'm not a fan of grilled clams, but these were juicy and very tasty. Then came our grilled corn on the cob and our pound of steamers with broth. Hard to decide what to eat first! Either way, we were licking our lips. And then...the lobsters! I had mine just steamed, but my companions had theirs popped onto the grill. Sweet, succulent, and gone too soon. So...we ordered another pound of steamers and shared another lobster. What a great experience. Friendly service, delicious dinner, wonderful atmosphere. We'll be back!

Marta A.

Yelp
This a must do place! The experience was great, the atmosphere enjoyable and the food amazing! I do have some advise to make it even better! Bring a tablecloth, silverware, towel for the stump, drinks in a cooler ( beer, wine, water, etc) don't forget the wine opener, and glasses. I would also bring a salad or cheese and crackers to eat while you wait for your appetizers. You have to have the roast clams....they are a must! I had the roasted lobster, amazing and my husband had the ribeye and loved it! The cheesecake was really good also! The people are so nice! The waiters, mostly college students are great! We had Grant and he was very attentive. We met one one the owners, Gary, very nice! They have a good thing going here! If your concern about Covid, no problem, great distancing here and outdoors! Don't leave your pup at home, they are more than welcomed! Enjoy!

Carol D.

Yelp
Fun experience Very limited menu. All food is cooked over wood fire. Staff are very friendly

Paul R.

Yelp
Fantastic as always. Had the rib-eye this time. It did not disappoint. My other guests throughly enjoyed in their lobsters.

Yelp
Expensive. You are paying for the experience. A big challenge if you come with kids. Lots of hot stuff and bugs everywhere. The best thing I ate here was the grilled corn ($4 each). The rib eye, which I was looking forward to the most, was a huge disappointment. No char on the meat or tenderness. It was messy and hard to cut snd eat a bloody steak on a paper plate. The clams were blah, lobster was also blah. I wonder if the usual grill master was out sick or on vacation. I did not have the same experience as the others. Also, it took a while for someone to come take our order. Long enough to feel like they were not serving Asians.

Yelp
I've lived in Guilford nearly all my life, but somehow I had only been to the Place once before this visit. This past weekend my boyfriend and I were jonesin' for outdoor vibes and great food and BAM, we found it. The food rundown: -barbecue chicken - 8/10, white meat - tangy bbq -corn - 10/10, I don't even know.. it's not in season -vegibob - 7/10, standard side, needs a protein -clams special - 8/10, tasty and fresh off the grill -key lime mousse - 8/10, graham crust is noms -mud pie - 11/10, I'd bathe in this, seriously Some key notes if you're a newb: cash only (but there is an atm across the street at Walmart should you forget), BYOB (score!) and you can actually bring your own sides/table decor. It was a popular decision among the middle aged. Tbh I prob would bring some potato salad or Mac and cheese with me, that would be epic. But I cannot stress enough you should NOT be bringing dessert, because the ones here are unbelievable. TL;DR bring cash, bring your libation of choice, bring whatever you love to eat with delicious proteins (salad? Idk). Seat yourself and order every dessert on the menu. Oh, and corn - must eat corn. K, Bye!

Yelp
Outdoor barbecue place in Guilford with a nice vibe about it. All outdoor seating with a few plastic chairs scattered about and a lot of tree stumps for seats. Cash only and BYOB. Water served. Corn was barbecued and very good. Clams from the grill were very tasty. Three of us ordered the lobster and three ordered the steak and shared our own surf and turf. Both were prepared excellently. We brought our own salad and antipasto. All in all a different experience. Suggest you bring your own utensils and perhaps a plastic dish for each. Paper plates and plastic forks and knives don't really make it. Glad we thought it out ahead of time.

Yelp
Fun place, great food, and the beer and wine are perfect because you bring your own. We recommend clams, lobster and corn. You should also bring silverware. They only have small plastic forks.

Yelp
The Place has been on my radar for a while for the unique outdoor dining and real wood fire cooked food. I was surprised that my local vegetarian family members recommended coming here for dinner but they know my passion for well prepared seafood. While the Place is popular for clams, lobster, and other good grilled meats like chicken and steak, there are vegetable kabobs and the grilled corn which was truly the highlight of dinner. We visited on a busy Saturday evening and brought a bottle of wine and soft drinks of our own. Love being able to bring my favorite beverage and not even being asked to pay a corkage fee. Of course I brought my own wine bottle opener, and with so many patrols bringing in their own bottles surely someone would help you out if you forget this tool. The younger ones in my group selected a table near the fire pits to watch the food being cooked. We pulled up stumps and while this was entertaining, the smoke also drove of few of my guests away from the table before all of us had finished. I started with the clam special, which are nicely grilled clams topped with butter and a spicy sauce. I also ordered the shrimp and they were huge and delicious dipped in the hot cocktail sauce. We all ordered the corn on the cob which comes out wonderfully smokey from the wood fire, dripping with a butter and so good some of us actually ordered seconds. The vegetable kabobs were huge with zucchini and onions dripping in a sauce similar to an Italian dressing and they were okay. The lobster was obviously the main attraction here and we saw so many coming out, I would likely just get this next time. Unfortunately I filled up too much on other selections to order one and being the sole meat eater at a table full of vegetarians, I just didn't feel right tearing into a full lobster alone. Service was okay with everything coming out as it was ready. Ordering seconds took a bit long, so I would suggest ordering everything you think you might want on your first round. Very reasonable prices and cash only, but an on site ATM is available for those who did not come prepared. Even though you are dining outdoors, there are restroom facilities available but only one for each gender so the line was long on a busy night. Overall, I love The Place and cannot wait to return. What a fun experience, good food and unique meal out.
