The Plant Butchers

I've been wanting to try the Plant Butchers and I went on a Monday afternoon for lunch. I had the Reuben sandwich, a drink and a blueberry muffin to go. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. I had it toasted which was so great because it brought out the flavor of the caraway seeds in the marbled rye bread (so yummy!). I also added avocado. This place shares an outdoor/retail space with Sugar Taco so I sat in the shared patio area which is dog-friendly according to their website. Plant Butchers also sells eco-friendly items and vegan products in-store. They also sell their vegan deli meat and vegan cheese made in-house. Overall, I would definitely visit this place and I definitely recommend it. **Note: This is a cashless place. Breakfast items served all day. **Parking: Parking entrance is on Magnolia Ave. The Plant Butchers and Sugar Taco share allotted parking spaces in the Magnolia Luxury Apartments parking structure (to the left and one spot to the right). So very very convenient as when you walk out the restaurant entrance is immediately to the left when you exit the structure.

Originally I was planing to preorder and just pick up my food there but since Apple Pay didn’t work with my non-US credit cards on their web checkout I want there and ordered in person. The woman at the register was very kind and helpful and the store itself looked very clean, inviting and well kept. Ordering was swift and effective and since they prepared my Reuben sandwich fresh it took 5-10min for it to arrive. I took the Sandwich and their vegan chicken piece back to my hotel and had it 20min later. Nevertheless it still tasted incredibly good. Very hearty and meaty. All the ingredients of the Sandwich just fit together perfectly and the crunch from toasting the sandwich was still there as well as some residual heat. Just perfect. I will sure be back there in the future and probably also try the vegan Mexican place next door.

First timer! Got dinner next door at Sugar Taco and made my way in for some desserts. I've been waiting for Plant Butchers to open and was excited to see the adorable decor, sandwiches, and desserts. I ended up getting some chocolate chip cookies for my sisters and myself and oh my god they were unbelievable! I haven't had nestle toll house cookies since I became vegan, and these cookies tasted exactly like them. The girl In the front was also very kind and helpful and had lots of recommendations! Will be back soon for a mug

The plant butchers is a delish new vegan spot in long beach! They have amazing sandwiches like the tuna melt and blt, the cookies are amazing! I couldn't even tell it was vegan the staff plays great music and made me feel super welcomed! I highly recommend coming here and trying some sandwiches out!

When you left saying I can't believe it's vegan that's how you know a vegan place is doing something right and that's exactly what is going on here. I stopped by bumping around downtown Long Beach. The chicken Parmesan sandwich caught my eye and I'm really glad they told me to try it because it was really delicious. I'Great sauces, great flavor and a great sandwich. I can't believe it's not vegan! Everyone here is really cool. They have a chill vibe, just take sometime to sit outside on the patio and soak It in. I could almost swear it felt 15° cooler in their shady patio. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

A plant based butcher shop is a dream! We had PB’s cater our daughter’s birthday party and the food was a hit, both with vegan AND non-vegans. They made our special day even better! I don’t know how their chef did it but they’ve done it again after opening the wonderful Sugar Taco’s. They are a wonderful family owned business, a beautiful family is behind this shop and it’s so important to support our community, now more than ever! So if you get the chance, please try Plant Butchers and Sugar Taco, we’re lucky to have them!

We ordered the “BLT, Tuna melt and Rueben” for lunch. The size of the sandwich fillings was meager, the bread was stale and dry. The sandwiches weren’t even properly cut in half so they all fell apart when you had to rip the dry bread. They weren’t accompanied by even a pickle spear yet are all over $13. We also ordered “goat” cheese and didn’t receive it in the bag. It was lunchtime busy and only one employee to help make sandwiches and service the lunch rush. Several customers left as they couldn’t wait any longer. We really hoped this place was going to be incredible like our favorite plant based butcher up in Highland Park. I get that they’re new and may be adjusting, hence the point of this review. Get it right, and we’ll gladly flip this around for a five star glowing review. Two stars for even opening as a vegan option.

Tried this spot for the first time. First, you would not know this food is plant based! I tried the fried chicken, Mac and cheese, Caesar salad and a lemon tart. They were all exceptional. The staff were very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. They also have a very cute market with great gift items, packaged food and a huge assortment of canned drinks, teas and coffees. It really is a great spot to eat and shop!

went to long beach and wanted to find something to eat and found this place on apple maps. me and my friend looked for parking for around 15 minutes which caused us to go in at 6:50 (the shop closes at 7) so we felt super bad about being those kinds of people. but when i stepped inside the cashier was so sweet and didn't make me feel like i intruded. the store is big and filled with cute items to buy like kitchen supplies, mugs, snacks, and other items. the cashier said that there's usually a lot that's open for parking but since it was already the evening it might've just closed. i ordered a BLT and a caprese sandwich. both were around $30 in total. i waited outside for my food, it took about under ten minutes. waiting outside was very nice because they share a patio with the mexican restaurant next door and the decor and seating is very decorated. after ten minutes i was brought my food and it was great! my friend said her sandwich was delicious and mine was as well. we're asked if we wanted the sandwiches toasted and with avocado and it definitely was the best part. they aren't greedy with the avocado at all! i found a new gem in long beach and i will be coming back next time! 10/10 service, food, and decor.

LOCATION - Directly connected to Sugar Taco in Long Beach, The Plant Butchers is in the beginning section of a busy downtown area. Street parking is a little difficult but not too bad. The inside of the deli market is cute, spacious, and clean. Easy for take out or dine in (part of Sugar Taco). FOOD - I ordered the Chicken Parm, a side of Mac & Cheese, and a slice of Carrot Cake for dessert. Every single item is completely plant-based by the way! The Chicken Parm was delicious and flavorful! The breading was crispy but the sandwich itself does come with a lot of tomato sauce and mozzarella so it did become soft quickly. The Mac & Cheese was okay for me but I was told they're revamping the recipe, which is nice to know. For me, the Carrot Cake was the best thing especially to end the meal. It was soft, not overly sweet, had the right amount of walnuts and frosting - it was fantastic! SERVICE - Everyone was so nice and helpful. This is the kind of service you'd want to have everywhere!

This butcher's shop turns meat into veggies?!?! Yup! It's true and you will be so amazed that ! Mind blown! This spot may sway you to become a vegan because at @theplantbutchers , they are butchering vegetables to the point that will fool any crazy carnivore like myself. My Chikin Parmesan Sandwich was fking delicious that charmed me to go for back to back bites. I had no idea veggies transformed could taste this fabulous. My Caesar salad was topped with capers that gave me the zing I needed but wasn't a fan of the dressing. But the carrot cake was so good that my mom took one bite and told me to stop eating it and said it was hers. She is so silly but she didn't let me take anymore bites. Just gotta buy more next time. Parking is easy because you can park at the garage for FREE! Inside the Plant Butchers, they also offer cute retail and snacks item. It's worth checking out!

I want to like this new vegan deli but I just want to be honest that it is just ok. It is like they are not ready to open yet. They ran out of stuff in the beginning of the day on a weekend. We wanted to try their fried chicken and BLT, not available. We ended up with Reuben, Potato Salad, and choc chip cookie. I rate 3 for the Reuben. I thought usually Reuben and a hot sandwich but this is cold inside. The cheese didn't melt and the sliced seitans are cold. I rate 2 for the potato salad. The potatoes are not cooked thoroughly. I don't know what to do with potato salad that is not cooked enough. The flavors are lacking. It has no creaminess feeling. It is probably because the potatoes are uncooked. I rate the chocolate chip cookie as a 3. Even Sprouts vegan chocolate chips are better. I hope these issues are fixed or improved as I would not want them to fail. We like the Sugar Taco next door but for now I will wait until the deli is ready.

Didn't get to try anything on our 1st visit, tried to support this new business on opening day. Get there early, The staff will not let you order anything 15 minutes before closing. 2nd visit was ok staff has some kinks to work out but food was ok staff for got the chicken wings then remembered brought them out late was about to leave when they remembered.

I like how spacious it is! The prices are very affordable! I love their delectable sweets! Their cheezes are yummy and the lowest is $5! Another vegan staple in LB. I'm curious as to how their inventory will grow greater and greater!

Update: Tried new things: Reuben Sandwich: Very tasty but with all the other sandwiches needed more meat. What's displayed in the case is not what you get. Flavor and texture superb. Bread for all the sandwiches I've tried very good. Caprese Sandwich: I didn't think I would like this one because it's just mozzarella and tomatoes. Well I was mistaken. This sandwich was very good. Vegan Ribz: Surprisingly these were excellent! I make my own and rarely do I find places that do it better! Well I found the place! Keep this one on the menu. Went back tonight to order more and they were out! Bummer! Vegan Salmon: please take these off the menu. That's it, that's all. I ordered these because they were out of the ribz. Bad choice. Fried Chicken: Ummmmm no, just no! These tasted like fried unseasoned dressing. Please for the love of god, remove these from the menu. If you are gonna offer this, use oyster mushrooms or jackfruit. Mush is not an ingredient for human consumption, not for those of us with a more sophisticated pallet. Potato Salad: second attempt same outcome. This is a no! See prior review, it's still too firm. Potato salad should be somewhat mushy. Make this dish mushy not the fried chicken! So far I can say that the deli side of things is excellent!!! The attempts at dishes is so far a big fail! I will be back for the meats and sandwiches for sure And the ribz!!!! Other choices are either mediocre or bad! I will continue to try things on the menu as they add them and update my review at such time. No pics because it was not worth my time on this trip!

For my vegans and my non-vegans who just need a break from meat, this is a cool spot for sandwiches and goodies. I ordered the Reuben Sandwich with a Caesar Salad. I also ordered the Lemon Scone to-go. I really think the avocado really complemented the vegan meat in the sandwich. The bread was also a great pairing. The salad tasted very similar to non-vegan Caesar Salad. So that was tasty, as well. Service was great from India. She was super sweet. There's seating outside in the shared front patio of Sugar Taco. There isn't seating inside. However, there are lots of vegan and healthy snacks for purchase inside. There's free shared parking available in the apartment parking right next to the front. You drive in and park on your left side under the Sugar Taco/The Plant Butchers reserved parking signs.

I love this place! The employees have always friendly and their selection of plant-based snacks and goodies is amazing. I usually get their food to-go, but I love that they share the patio with Sugar Taco so there is always somewhere to sit if you are dining in. Sadly I saw this sign on the door today on 5/12/2024, which announced their temporary closure. I am really hoping they reopen soon!

Must visit spot if you are in the downtown Long Beach area. Food is vegan and tastes great. Their desserts are a must try, especially the carrot cake! Fast service and right next door to their other restaurant Sugar Taco with great ambiance and perfect for photos.

Came here spontaneously with my girlfriend. They share a patio with Sugar Taco so it's outdoor eating. It was super windy and raining at the time we were there and the employees of Sugar Taco were so nice to let us sit inside. I'm not sure if this was the norm, but there's no restrooms, you have to go to sugar taco for restrooms. We ordered the BBQ ribs+Mac&Cheese+Potato Salad Combo ($17.45), Quiche (tofu egg, red bell pepper, chives - $6.95), and Bacon & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich (tofu egg, seitan bacon, cheddar cheese, Chipotle aioli - $10.95). They were out of the fried chicken today. The portion was really small and food is expensive. I was surprised how small the BBQ ribs were and the seitan bacon was really hard to salty. The quiche is good, but it's not something I would go out of my way for. The rest of the food were okay. They have frozen food, house made protein, and snacks for sale. The person working there was nice, gave suggestions, and let us know what was popular. This place is not something I would go out of my way for.

Wowza! Got the breakfast sandwich, tuna and the crazy Ruben. Gal up front very helpful with a smile and brought everything to me on the patio. Tasty, a bit to much salt on Break sandwich i am sensitive to salt so probably just me.

A vegan dream! Their sandwiches are meaty and filled with veggies and protein. I loved trying the Reuben sandwich and the BLT with avocado. The carrot cake for dessert was the carrot on top! It's also located in a cute area in downtown Long Beach.

The atmosphere in this vegan deli is one of my favorite things I've discovered since moving to Long Beach. The girls on staff are always so friendly, and personable! Mums recommended me her favorite items the Chicken Parm sandwhich, which apparently has become a fan favorite after being a temporary special and is now here to stay, as well as the carrot cake, and some incredible Cotija cheese. This deli is quickly becoming a staple in my home!

This place is amazing! Everything is so fresh, tastes great, and I love that everything is vegan. Non-vegans and vegans alike would be satisfied here. I got the chicken parm sandwich and since going vegan, it's my first time having anything like this. SO good. I also love that they share a patio with sugar taco. Yum. The Plant Butchers is a wonderful vegan spot with a beautiful downtown Long Beach location. It's set up as a traditional deli with cheese, meat, and sandwich selections on display in a case up front. They also sell an array of gorgeous kitchen and decor items. My boyfriend and I tried the chicken parm and toasted Reuben with avocado. Both were great but the Reuben was out of this world! Bread was toasted to perfection, sprouts and onions balanced it so well. Highly recommend adding avocado. They sell to-go items as well, like tuna and potato salad. We got both and made tuna melts with their Swiss cheese at home! Both their potato and tuna salads are delicious. Oh, their chocolate chip cookies are amazing, too. We also placed a to-go order from Sugar Taco next door while we were enjoying our food. It was very easy to do, as I was able to scan a QR code at the table and next thing I knew, a sweet employee was bringing us tacos that we could have for dinner. (Highly recommend Sugar Taco, and getting a to-go margarita is a must)! Overall, I highly recommend the Plant Butchers whether you're vegan or not. If you're in Long Beach it's a no brainer, and if you're not, it's worth the trip!

Beautiful restaurant, a lot of different options to choose from. My fav was chicken Parm, I couldn't even tell this was plant based. Service was great, they were very nice when suggesting options from the menu and they brought all the food super fast. 5/5

I had the pastrami, bacon and roast beef. All seitan and I love that texture, so zero complaints on the vegan meats. I only ordered the Bri cheese, and a little gooey for my liking but they did a good job on the texture but it was a little chalky feeling for the aftertaste. I wish they had wine. I'm sure they will soon? Its attached to Sugar Taco and they share this cute floral, trendy patio. All around cool spot and will definitely be back

A sample of the breakfast muffin drew me in. The young female server was delighted to see me come back after a taste. Service was quick and friendly.

I had the BLT with cheese and avocado, and it was so delicious. I am still thinking about it today. We also got the tuna salad made out of jackfruit and the potato salad and the macaroni and cheese, and it was so delicious and so well-balanced and it didn't taste like overly heavy. I think it's because they don't use nuts so it was really good and I can't wait to try it again and I also can't wait to try their desserts and breakfast.

CALLING ALL VEGANS!!! this place has the BEST cheeses for you to take home to incorporate into your own home cooking. ranging from soft cheeses to hard cheeses, they're all so spot on and tasty i can't wait to try each one. workers are always nice and helpful! such a cute spot i'm definitely coming back!!

The team behind sugar taco does it again! So excited to see them branch out and continue to spread cruelty-free food across Los Angeles. We had an amazing experience at plant butchers, they catered our daughter's birthday which made the day that much more special! Our non vegan friends, couldn't tell the difference as they continued to go up for seconds and thirds of their delicious plant based meats and cheeses. With so many plant based restaurants shutting down, please support them, especially since it's a wonderful family that runs the shop! You can do so online or in person. If you can't make it to Long Beach you can order from their website!

As a vegan, so excited this place finally opened! Great vegan sandwiches, quiches, and an adorable grocery aspect too! Also those black and white cookies are literally the best ones I've ever had, my husband is a meat eating Jewish guy from NYC and swears those cookies are better than anything he's had in NY delis!

New and small but very cute and there's great seating area. My favorite thing here is the fried chicken. It taste like a warm cheesy biscuit. Everything is meat themed. Really cute!

Service was warm, helpful, and wonderful and the food was beyond incredible too! I got the chicken parm which I was told isn't a permanent menu item (yet), I REALLY hope it becomes one. The texture is just absolutely spectacular. Nice, dense patty that feels just like I remember! Got a couple items to try when I take home which I'm sure will be just as good. Right next to its sister-restaurant, Sugar Taco, this'll be my one stop shop for taking people new to the world of vegan cuisine.

Finally a great sandwich I love near me! I had the roast beef and provolone. The bread (roll) was soft and crispy and the meat and cheese were delicious! I really enjoyed this and will be back for another! Lots of things I want to try. I wasn't a huge fan of the tater salad but mostly bc I prefer a sweet version with softer taters and thicker consistency. I loved the area, the service, the atmosphere were all very pleasing.

I've been back a few times. The sandwiches there always hit the spot. My youngest misses the meatball sub. She hopes it will be back for meatball season. I love the Reuben. My wife loves the BLT.

Tried the homemade vegan cheese, and I have to say the vegan Brie was a winner. Lovely space too.

I just stumbled upon this place and got in right before they closed! I was looking for a quick snack but ended up taking home fried chicken (my favorite!!), bacon, goat cheese, and two sandwiches lol. It is all plant based, I am not vegan but I love some good vegan options. The staff member working (I can't remember your name sorry but I think it started with K) was so sweet and helpful. I will be back for sure!

I have family in LBC and am so happy to have this little spot as an option in town now. The mac and cheese was great, also had the fried chicken which was insane! My brother had the BLT which he enjoyed. I didn't get a chance to shop in their grocery area yet but I will for sure next time (we were walking on our way somewhere).

Food is good. Love their bacon and the black and white cookie cake. The people are nice.

Tuna melt was the best vegan tuna melt I've ever had! Added tomato slices too. The chicken plate could use a gravy for dipping the chicken drumsticks in and also to top the mashed potatoes, as I had to add a lil salt to them, but was still pretty good, the chicken was flavored within the breading, but again, could use a gravy, if they even make it.

Food has an acquired taste to say the least but I'm not a vegan person but i recommend this spot to all my vegan people because of the ambiance of this place thank you guys for everything

i just ordered this places BLT and my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. the fake bacon used in the sandwich was as tough as leather and over salted for its incompetence of being fake meat. the only reason i am giving it one star is because the girl that works there, april, is so kind and sweet, literally the only redeeming quality of this entire god forsaken restaurant. please for the love of god, MAKE BETTER FOOD PEOPLE!!!!!!

Wow I am so happy I stopped in here- being vegan for the last 10 years I have tried so many plant based cheeses. In recent years they've definitely become more edible but overall most brands are just okay...I tried the mozzarella and the swiss cheeses from plant butchers and they were fantastic!! I also ended up ordering some seitan ribs (SO GOOD), then a brownie for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious and I can't wait to come back for more!

yummy vegan food but the workers always seem so depressed it's kinda a downer :( i've been in there twice now and the girl at the counter in the plant butchers & the girl in sugar taco were both so sad both times i visited. kinda weird but maybe i caught them on a bad day lol

Killing it guys! This is what I have been needing in my life and I am so excited to try everything. Their cheeses are *muah* chefs kiss. The meats and sandos are SO good. I can see how closely they are paying attention to quality and the staff is awesome. I will be living here for lunch and breakfast and cleaning out the dessert! YUM
