Where can I even start? The Plant Outpost is literally one of the shiniest gems of Wilmington, NC. The owners and staff are always so friendly and inviting. Their plants are always pest free and pure perfection. Whenever I’m feeling down, I go to The Plant Outpost for a little pick-me-up. They have common plants, and rare ones too. Their prices are so incredibly reasonable. The owners sometimes have cuttings of their own, rare plants which is an amazing way to boost your own collection for cheaper. Don’t sleep on this one, folks.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while, so here goes! I’ve been visiting The Plant Outpost every week or two for over six months now, and it has truly become my happy place. For anyone who loves plants—whether you’re just starting out or already knowledgeable—this shop is so welcoming. The owners are fountains of information and always incredibly personable. The location can’t be beat, with ample parking and just steps away from tons of other great small businesses in the Cargo District. One of the best things is how often they restock plants and pots—you’ll always find something new and interesting with every visit. As a plant lover, that’s what first drew me in. But as someone who also appreciates unique fashion and design, I’ve been blown away by their merch. The hats and shirts are not only high quality but also stylish and comfortable, perfectly fitting the vibe of the store. And I promise you, you will wear this merch constantly, with how versatile and high-quality it is. Every experience I’ve had here has been wonderful. The staff are kind, the plants are always healthy (not a single one I’ve bought has struggled), and caring for them has been easy thanks to how well they’re maintained before purchase. If you’re considering stopping by—do it! You won’t regret visiting this gem.

The Plant Outpost is a valuable part of our community. Plants have a way to calm me and make me feel comforted and walking into this business gives me that feeling. Their plants are always so healthy and priced in a way that’s competitive while still able to support a small family owned business. Not to mention their merch is 🔥. I find the comments about “rude” customer service frustrating because Sarah and Dakotah are just introverts yall (as a fellow introvert it’s pretty clear!). They’re quiet and kind and knowledgeable and approachable. Not every store owner needs to boisterously greet customers and schmooze. Anytime I’ve shopped in this store (which over the years is countless, shoutout to the original shipping container!) I’ve been treated with kindness and never rushed or bothered when taking my sweet time admiring their inventory. THATS what I want in good customer service. Wilmington loves the Plant Outpost and so do I ❤️

As a plant enthusiast, I love finding little gems like this when I travel, and this plant outpost did not disappoint! They had a wonderful mix of exotic breeds and everyday favorites, which was such a treat to browse through. The only downside for me was that I didn’t feel especially welcomed. The owners weren’t overly friendly or conversational, and when I asked for some plant info, they used the fancy botanical names, which left me feeling a bit intimidated about my own plant knowledge. For me, plants are a hobby, and part of the joy of visiting shops like this is having those fun, down-to-earth conversations and learning more along the way. That said, I still adopted a lovely new plant and I’d still recommend this place and would definitely come back after I’ve read up on my plant names more.

This is my favorite plant store in Wilmington! Sarah and Dakotah are so kind and helpful, and I’ve never left regretting my plant purchases (they help me figure out which ones I won’t kill easily XD). The shop is SO stinkin cute, and their hours make it easy to swing by outside of work. 10/10 would recommend!

I could not agree more when I read the review saying that the prices were ridiculously high. They are! The customer service was pretty lousy as well. It wasn't horrible but I certainly wasn't helped. The prices though just blew my mind, I have plants 10 times the size of some of their plants same kind of plant, they would probably charge $1,000 for them. It's just ridiculous! I also think their reply to one of the comments saying thank you for leaving it whether it be good or bad... Is also ridiculous, if someone's being honest about the way they feel and their experience it doesn't make it a "bad" review, it makes it an honest review.

My favorite Gem💎 in Wilmington🪴 The Owner is often in the store and a literal dictionary of information! I have gotten some of my favorite plants here and they have THRIVED since day one. (taking over my living room at this point they are so healthy!) This trip I came in for some stake's to put into my Monsteras that was getting a little crazy- I found exactly what I needed and more! Highly recommend going by to see this beautiful store if you’re in the area! Before and after Pictures for reference- can’t wait to watch these babies grow even bigger !☺️

Google
The Plant Outpost is my favorite spot in Wilmington! From their eclectic retail, to their amazing selection of colorful pots, to their beautiful, healthy plants-- there's truly something for everyone here. I always leave feeling better than when I came in. Thank you Plant Outpost <3

Yelp
I loved this shop! I visited my friend in Wilmington recently & told her she had to take me to a plant shop & she brought me here. Honestly I wasn't expecting much because the shop seems small, however upon walking in I was immediately proven wrong in my expectations. I am pretty sure the owner was there when I went in. He was extremely knowledgeable about the plants & was very kind. I had to go back a second time (even though I was only in town a few days) to get another look at the plants & buy a shirt to remember this gem! I felt as though the prices were very reasonable (and honestly less expensive than some of my favorite online nurseries!). It was very obvious to me that they source healthy and well established plants. If this shop was local to me, the owner/employees would be sick of me from coming so much! I ended up leaving with two plants, but if I could have I would've gotten so many more! My only complaint is that their online shop isn't as stocked as their in person shop, however that is hardly a complaint as going into the shop you can tell how well cared for their plants are!

Yelp
Lovely little plant store in Wilmington! So many options to choose from. In addition to plants, they also have other items for sale. I saw a group of friends in here and they were just swooning over every plant they saw. I'm not the best to judge on value of plant prices, I thought it was slightly on the higher end, but I think it's on par with most people pay. Personally, I liked the customer service. I was greeted when I walked in the door and otherwise left alone to shop at my leisure. I'll be back next time I'm in the area of Wilmington.

Yelp
I loved finding this little shop at the cargo district in Wilmington. It was extremely hot outside and this was the perfect stop-in for some good air conditioning, but also I got to enjoy browsing through all of their plants! Seems small on the outside, but still has plentiful options of plants to choose from...I had my eyes set on at least three that I wanted to take home with me but opted not to while on vacation. But I did buy a very cool plant shirt from them! There were two employees in there and were very helpful and laid back, which allowed for an enjoyable browse. The prices are up there in some plants, but plenty of options that you'll find something you'd like for a reasonable price.

Yelp
Dakota and Sara are very knowledgeable about the plants they have and have a lot of fun things to choose from. A beautiful working space where they can assist you on planting or answer questions you have . I really love this spot.

Yelp
Adorable plant shop in cargo district. Various plants and some plant targeted clothing and essentials. Got a new plant baby and shears. Will go back and check out again when in town no such thing as too many plants

Yelp
Checked out this new plant place. It's small but has a variety of plants and unique plants. Most of the plants are good indoors. There were a few small pots available. The owner was very knowledgeable and helpful in choosing plants. She outsources the plants from South Florida. Got a mature fiddle leaf fig tree for $100 and a few small plants. She had paper bags to fit the small plants in and was nice enough to help carry the fiddle leaf tree to my car. The owner is still working out the hours and figuring out how to get the plans delivered. Follow her on Facebook to get updated hours.

Yelp
A beautiful store with a great selection of unusual tropical plants and cute pots to choose from. The prices seemed high, but it's not your typical place either. Their clay pots were $16 which is excessive, but they also had mini pots for $10 which was fair. It's definitely worth visiting if you love plants.

Yelp
This spot is ah-mazing! This place specializes in tropical houseplants. The owners are so friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about their plants. All of the plants looked healthy and pest free. I didn't see any of the dreadful fungus gnats that are usually hanging out in the plant section of a big box store. The prices here are decent for the quality of plants you get. They will even re-pot a plant for you if you buy the pot.

Yelp
My husband and I came to this store twice while on holiday in Wilmington. We really enjoyed the selection, the service, and the plants are priced fairly. Beautiful ambiance and it smells marvelous!

Yelp
We had a blast learning about and planting some house plants in a glass and a cactus in a pot great people and a fun space this is the place to go if you are looking for a unique plant and the professional knowledge to make it thrive in your space

Yelp
Dakota is amazingly gracious & helpful in my quandary to try to root cuttings from my uber prized 40 year old Camilla bush via my prior home. He had several suggestions I'm going to try to implement. I'll be ever more thankful if it 'takes', as now I've hope!

Yelp
I love The Pant Outpost! I have been a regular there for a while! I have seen them move 3 locations as they grow. The owner and staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable about plants. The plants are a good price for the quality. Pet friendly of course! I'll continue to show and recommend!

Yelp
Super cute pal t store that's part of Cargo District (on the fringes back behind Mess Hall if you're looking for it). Friendly and helpful staff.

Yelp

Yelp
I decided I wanted a plant to take home with me while on vacation and stopped by to take a look. I've been wanting a Monstera but wanted to shop small. This little spot did not disappoint. They have a nice selection that is very well taken care of. The aesthetic is beautiful. Customer service is great. I will be back

Yelp
This place is just incredible. The owner is knowledgeable, sweet, and all around a pure human with the best intentions. This is by far my favorite plant shop! Her stickers are the cutest!

Yelp
Omg I've been dying to get to Wilmington to visit this plant shop my brother was ranting about a few months back. Well, today I had time and made a day trip to Wilmington. I was greeted by the sweetest and most southern women I've ever met. The store was so cute and inviting. As I looked around I saw what turns out to be the owner unpacking a new shipment of plants. As busy as she was, she took time out to introduce herself to me and my daughter. Then she even took the time to answers all of the questions I had about plant care. It's really great to see businesses that focus on atmosphere and customer service. 10 out of 10, I'll be back!
