The Playground LA

It’s a fun place but they staff way too many people in that class, people be kicking each other around when dancing, and also you can’t even see the teacher because there are so many people. Not even space to put your stuff. Also difficult to find parking. The teacher is a really good dancer, and the choreo is great, but even in the “beginer class” they move at a lightning speed, and everybody in the class are like pros with 10 years of dance experience, absolutely not for beginners. I guess it’ll be great for advanced dancers. Very clean floors which is nice. They have people wiping down the floor even during the class. However, out stuff on the floor were moved around and all got wet, Idk what happened. My friend’s clothes got wet and she had to go home in shorts and tank tops in the cold winter night.

This is my favorite studio in LA! The community is so supportive, which is my favorite thing about it. I didn’t know anyone who went here and have been going by myself for about 2 years and ALWAYS end up having great conversations with people. I take at least one class a week here and am always mixing up what classes I take. Class leveling / specific classes: I’ve taken a few of my friends who aren’t dancers here with me and they have loved the beginner classes!! Some people in beginner classes here aren’t beginners - so just know that going in and definitely don’t be intimidated :) Dexter Carr’s classes are really fun for people trying to make dance friends - because he sprinkles in interactive chats and activities throughout the class. His beginner class is the best class in my opinion for true beginners. If you’ve danced before - I recommend taking his intermediate one at least! Marissa Heart’s heels classes is ALSO a super fun one for beginners and she has everyone set an intention before class - to help make it a self loving / supportive place. I primarily take intermediate and advanced classes and have been formally trained for about 20 years now and I find them always to be a GREAT workout and always learning something new. One more honorable mention to Shane Bruce’s intermediate hip hop class. I just absolutely love his dancing style, and he always has his partner as his co-teacher and the two of them are just so sweet and fun.

Tried their intro to Vogue class with a friend. It was soooo much fun! Our instructor Polina was a fantastic instructor. She went at a good pace and was so much fun to learn from. You get nice video footage from the class. We haven’t gotten ours yet but my friend got his last week and it was so professional and clean! If I lived in LA would 100000% come again for another class.

Everything about this studio truly makes me enjoy coming here a lot alone/with friends! The kindest staff, the location of the studio and the talented choreographers. The ambiance of this dance studio is truly one of kind and inclusive for anyone in their dance journey.

We were in town from North Carolina for the week. My daughter did a drop in hip hop class and she loved it! I thought the price was very reasonable and the instructor was definitely well qualified.

I went once in March 2024 and bought a one time pass online. A year later I've been charged twice (once early May and once this month) without my authorization and it says it's a recurring subscription but I never signed up for a recurring subscription. Also it's slightly more amount wise than the one time pass was. Seems like a scam. I don't know how to make it stop and I've reported fraud and have gotten a new card and the second charge still occurred.

Had a class here recently and everyone was super nice. However, the music was WAY too loud (louder than club-levels) during the class to the point where I felt my hearing was being permanently damaged. We asked them nicely to turn it down but nothing really changed. I left with a strong headache, my ears ringing/muffled, hearing loss, and feeling very anxious and sad. Would appreciate it if the studio/instructors could be more considerate of people’s hearing health or at least have ear plugs available for accessibility and safety reasons. Unfortunately not Autism or ADHD-friendly or accessible.

Dream come true! I always dream about I can dance in here finally I did it! When I was in my country, I always wanted the dance video form this dance studio, I am so happy I can be here dance with my dream.

Took a beginner heels class over the weekend. It's definitely a lively environment but gives a very LA superficial vibe. I've never seen so many influencer type people packed into one room. Unfortunately, there are no lockers to put your belongings in so you throw it on the floor like everyone else. There is also only one bathroom for prob 70 girls, so try to go beforehand. As for the class itself, I did struggle a bit because I have no choreography background. It looked like the majority of people had some sort of dancing experience (or they were just naturally good). Also, it was so packed that I couldn't see the instructors in the front. I would recommend trying to get a spot in the front row, but you better be the first in line for that. Otherwise, good times.

Playground is a reputable studio and you will definitely be taking classes from professional dancers with professional dancers in the class with you. I've taken a few beg/int hip hop classes and they're challenging and fun. Ultimately Playground is not my favorite studio and thats because classes get packed and so you don't get a lot of space to dance, and it's a lot about "see and be seen" so people are definitely more interested in how they look rather than how they dance. And a good chunk of the class is left at the end for influencers/pro dancers to film themselves for social media. If thats your vibe, no problem. And I enjoy watching all the dancers as they're definitely talented. But since I'm not a professional dancer (Ive danced my whole life and have no problem keeping up with the choreography in an intermediate class, Im just not professional) I prefer studios that are more welcoming to beginners and more easy going. I would never take a non-dancer friend to a class at Playground. And it's tiresome to try and keep up with appearances. So I'll go elsewhere so I can just dance and have a good time.

I stumbled upon this venue unexpectedly in the early evening and was captivated for an hour! It's a dance venue where people of all ages come to dance with a choreographer. Participants learn a new routine together and some are selected to perform and be filmed. I met a mother waiting for her 16-year-old daughter, who is homeschooled and already a professional dancer at this venue. I met her daughter after her session and she was radiant! She couldn't stop praising this amazing social dance venue. It's a perfect place to learn new routines, explore dance, and experiment without any judgment based on age, size, color, or ethnic background. Everyone is welcome and dances in their own unique way - moms, dads, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, and friends. People of all kinds are dressed in various styles, and it's incredibly exciting to watch. It's a fantastic place that promotes physical and mental well-being, happiness, and a sense of community through an inspiring and energizing activity that builds skills, stamina, and social acceptance. To dance there, you need to book yourself into a class, and there are five classes per day. I would love to dance there once I gather the courage. It's fast-paced, facing the mirror, and following a routine. The atmosphere is electric and exhilarating to observe. Who knows, one day you might see me there too... I would def recommend this place to anyone looking for real dancing classes with lots of fun!!

Did a few beginner hip hop dance classes here now. It's very fun especially with friends and family. Classes are very affordable but can get very full. They also have other dance classes for different levels and styles. And pretty much open to everyone. You can pay by downloading the playground app or if you've created an account before, you can pay when you walk in. Street parking is the only option which is usual in the area, but not difficult to find if you go in the residential parts.

Went there for my 1st time a few weeks ago. Took a Beg/Int Heels Class on a Friday night. The instructor was 20 minutes late. There was no warm up. We just went across the floor and learned some choreo to Beyonce. Not gonna lie, the choreo was actually kinda cute, but the vibe in the class was not very welcoming and as a result I did not have fun. It was an elitist environment and got some weird stares and dirty looks just for being me LOL. I am not an influencer nor am I trying to be. I may be a very different looking dancer body and age wise but I can still dance better than a lot of people. Sadly there was also a lack of dance etiquette among dancers in the space. Not sure this is the space for everyone.

I usually don't leave reviews but this is the worst dance class I ever had. Class is 6pm to 7:30pm total 1 hour and a half but I waited 20 mins teach came in at 7:25pm. No lockers which is fine every one just leave belongs all around floor get step on by other people. The worst is this class is over packed that the room to too crowded during the whole class I can't even see teacher doing any movement even once. Just other people's head in front me the entire time. And I got stepped on by other people at least five time. Worst organized class ever.

Okay playground LA is amazing! Owned by Robin from the pussycat dolls she is just amazing in every way. She's welcoming to her students and offers top-notch choreographers for all her classes. They also do collaborations for special fundraisers or bringing awareness to any special need. Every single class there my daughter absolutely enjoys to the max! I wish we lived closer and we'd be there every single day. This is our most favorite Recreational dance studio with the best teachers teaching from beginner levels all the way to advanced however even the beginner levels are very challenging. As they should be! If you've been thinking about going don't think anymore just go you're going to love everything about it. And pick up some awesome new moves for sure!

For years I have been watching dance videos filmed at this dance studio. I have dreamed about dancing (and being prerecord) here! I attended my first Hip-Hop dance class in November 2021 by Samantha Caudle. The venue was not that hard to locate. You can find parking in the neighborhood. Just carefully read the parking signs. During each visit I parked in a two hour parking space pretty easily. When I arrived I did expect the studio to be larger than what I saw. Based on the videos I assumed the space was bigger. Samantha's class must be popular because dancers were packed in. FYI, you must register for class beforehand! Also, her class does sell out. Before starting with warm-up/stretches Samantha had us form a circle and she asked what was our focus during class. Being outspoken I raised my hand and stated I want to remember the choreography. After a few people answered and Samantha provided words of encouragement we warmed up with across the floor exercises. Following I believe we did some stretches and started to learn to choreography. Samantha has a gift of teaching choreography. Honestly, sometimes I struggle learning chore (especially with new instructors) yet I was able to easily pick up the moves. After learning the choreo Samantha split the class in groups to dance. Towards the end of the class Samantha selected several dancers to be filmed. Yes, I was one of the selected ones!!! Samantha also performed for the class with outstanding energy. When I returned to Los Angeles in December I attended her class again and the structure was the same of course with new, fun choreography. My first experience at PlaygroundLA was fantastic and I look forward to attending frequently in the near future!

I've taken a handful of classes at Playground since about 2016 or so. After the class I took yesterday, I decided I'm done going over there... I'm a professional dancer but NOT in the commercial/heels dance industry, so I would head to PG to take heels class for my own technique sake. Here's what the issues were with class: 1) in the beginner classes: these dancers do not understand class etiquette on spacing / staggering / understanding that when someone is in their spot in front of the mirror, don't go stand half a foot in front of them. Or keep trying to push in front of them. There were literally 75 or 80 beginners crowded into that studio. A large studio doesn't equal herding in dancers; it just means more $$$$ for the studio. 2) I wish these dancers (especially in the 5pm beginning heels class on Saturdays) understood that when you go across the floor in lines, you split at center stage, veer off to whichever side you are, and head back to your line/space where you were standing. 3) sorry, I'm going to say it. Marissa is a well known teacher / danced / choreographer in LA, but she started class well over 15 minutes late, and ended class late. I don't care what your reputation is out here. I'm a dance instructor is well and it's equally disrespectful to roll in that late to your own classes. And with no "sorry I'm late everyone!" 4) going back to class etiquette here; so many of these dancers are just obsessed with being on camera or filming themselves. When the videographer was in at the end of class to film dancers of 3-6 going in groups, there was a handful of students on the side filming themselves in the back of the studio while other dancers were in the center with the videographer. I'm surprised this wasn't policed in class cause these girls were also screaming and laughing and yelling at themselves. Which, again, is SO DISRESPECTFUL to fellow dancers/students who have their turn to be in the center of the room. I was ready to walk out the middle of class yesterday and leave. Honestly, I should have. I will say there are are some other decent heels classes and instructors out here in LA you can find where the vibe is not so....influence-y and "wannabe." Again, being a professional dancer from a strict dance background, these classes at PGLA have gotten so out of hand, it wasn't enjoyable at alllll to be in class yesterday... I'm also close to being an "elder millennial" so maybe I just didn't want ti be around all these younger "kids" dancing. Lol

Dancing has always been a long time hobby of mine. This studio down in melrose is one of my favorites. Everyone is super professional, if you haven't already seen their Instagram page, they have amazing footage from their past classes. A lot of renowned choreographers come to teach at this venue. All types of levels of difficulty are taught, from the basics to advanced technique classes. The only thing I would change about this facility is maybe having AC in the unit, because it could get quite hot in there.

Decent class! You get what you pay for, no A/C, competing to see yourself in the mirror and cool choreography. I've only been once and wasn't too impressed with everything but I do want to try other classes and make more friends No Parking!

Parking in this area is horrible but don't let that stop you from taking class here. Great vibe, awesome teachers, and a good dance crowd. You'll leave feeling challenged and full with fun happy dance energy. One of my favorite LA dance studios.

I went to a heels class for the first time here. It was the saturday beginner class at 5. First off, a lot of people jammed into the space. Must have been at least 60 people. Due to the space and heat outside, there had to be loud fans running the entire time. It was nearly impossible to hear the teacher speak at all unless you were right next to her. The people who took the class had no dance class etiquette. When we went in smaller groups, people were pushing to the center and front. Those that were not in the group going didn't even move to the side to give more space for those going. Not to mention those people were also going full out not giving space to anyone. To make it worse the teacher did nothing to manage her class. No mention of move to the side to make space for the group, no rotating of the lines throughout learning the combo so everyone had a chance at the front. The only reason I gave two stars instead of 1 was that the teacher opened with a no judgment talk.

I've always had a decent experience here, but the last class I took the teacher ran more than 15 minutes late. At $20 a class that's an absurd amount of time to be running late. There was a lot of floor work required and my hands were so dirty from the floor not being cleaned prior. I don't understand how studios (especially this one with only one room, ESPECIALLY during the sanitized-crazed Covid times) don't sweep in between classes or at least a few times throughout the day. I don't think I'll be coming back with so many other studios LA has to offer.

I love Marisa's classes and already feel like I'm improving. The instructors are awesome and are the reason why I keep coming back. However, this studio feels impersonal and like they're only in it for the money. They pack way too many people in. You barely have room to move and the worst part is the cliquey girls who stand in your space even when you've come early to claim a spot. The owner, Robin, deliberately ran into me to shove me out of the way so she could film a video with the instructor and the other "popular" students. A lot of the women have a very high school mean girl vibe and knock you out of the way. It often seems like they only come for the cute/sexy Instagram post. There's also not enough time spent on actual technique. Marisa does a great job of this but because the classes are so full it's difficult to see her demonstrate. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to come here. But you will definitely feel excluded if you're not one of the "popular" students.

I had the best experience EVER. I got a chance to be apart of Dani Leigh's class! She was absolutely the sweetest person ever and it was well worth the experience. THIS is why I came to LA! To DANCE

Been wanting to get back into dancing for a while now and had a lot of fun here. Took a monday night class with Sam Allen and it was perfect for what I was looking for. Nothing too crazy but just the right amount of challenge for someone trying to get back into moving their body. Sam was super energetic and positive too, which I found to be super encouraging. I will warn newcomers to try and change beforehand. There's only one bathroom and there's definitely a rush between classes to grab it. Can't wait to come back! Parking: I found some metered street parking in the area.

I am an ex-cheerleader and wanted to try a beginner dance class so I started with Playground LA. This place makes you feel welcome, and learning is usually easygoing and not stressful. I highly recommend this spot.

I had a lot of fun in the Beginner's Heels class. I have no dance experience and didn't put on my heels for fear I'd twist an ankle. After a year and a half barely putting on heels because of the pandemic, I didn't think the class was the first place I should prance around on them! But even in my sneakers, I got my sexy on and learned the routine. The instructor, Alexis Beauregard, was fun and charismatic and patiently broke each segment of the dance down so that we all could "break it down" by the end of class. It was a lot of fun and I recommend you grab a friend or two and go!

Really love the instructor cause she's so fun and bubbly. I did the beginners heels class with marissa and the energy is great!

Too many posers, money making scheme for people who want to be cool. No one on one attention. Overcrowded and too hot. They don't care about you. Really upset as I was looking forward to trying out a class.

ICY- thank you to Alexis for making me feel like a QUEEN. Seriously. I took my gal pal from Atlanta to PLAY in LA and @beaulexx showed us the ropes to @saweetie 's new hit "My Type" this past weekend. The class itself was ~ $20 and checking in was a breeze. We were running stylishly late and parking was kind of a bust so arrive early enough to snag neighborhood parking. This is a perfect vajayjay power outing for anyone adventuring solo or with galpals. Lexx took us through about four eight counts worth of sexy and do-able choreography allowing group by group practice. Best believe when that song comes on in the club, I'll be poppin and bouncin wit that bad girl attitude Lexx instructed. As a dance instructor, she is easy to understand and breaks down the sauciest of moves for anyone to follow. Bring your phone for proof you a sexy mofo cause there's plenty of opportunity to practice~ (Also, don't be intimidated by all the other women present, ask for have your video taken and return the favor!) #girlpower

I have been wanting to come here for awhile now as I have a sudden interest in Fitness based dance classes. I've noticed that it really helps improve my mood and the classes are really fun even though my hand eye coordination isn't anything to brag about but who's judging right? My teacher was super sweet and full of positive energy. The studio is super cute. I just wish they had a water refill station as it gots hot and I was thirsty. Will come back for sure.

I was shocked how crowded heels classes are. You can not even see the instructor. Also the beginner/beginner is very complicated for someone who does not have much experience in dancing. There were too many moves. Better to teach people do them correctly rather than go through all of them fast. Please make dance sequences shorter. It is too difficult to memorize so many in one class! They do not have many beginner heels classes and instead of adding them to the schedule they increased the studio capacity to the max.. I'm very sad because the teachers themselves are very skilled. The set up for class levels like why beginners learn such complicated moves does not make sense. 5 of my friends who signed up we all stopped going because of it, we couldn't keep up.

I look forward to Beginning/Intermediate Heels Class with Caoife every Monday afternoon. She breaks down the motion of the steps well (how they should look, whether they should be more fluid or more of a "hit") and is really encouraging. I wish there was more time devoted to the last third of the choreography because that's usually where I get lost but I know practice will help! I wish there was more space in the studio to move when we're doing floor work but I get the classes are so popular and there's only so many Beg/Int Heels classes. Excited to start back up again after the quarantine whether I'm living in LA or just visiting! Thanks guys.

The worst dance class I have ever taken. Total waste of my time. I've done 20 years of ballet, 4 years of jazz and modern, 1 year of salsa, and 1/2 year of hip hop. I've spent years as a spectator around the house & popping communities. I've taken massive/packed dance classes with celeb choreographers. So, I'd like to think I know at least a little bit about dance. The Beg/Int Hip Hop taught by Kenny Wormald was horrible. The class gets packed because Kenny's a celebrity. Which is fine. I'd give maybe another 1/2 star because Kenny himself is quite skilled as a dancer. However, it was the worst-organized class I've ever attended. You go through a basic Zumba-like 5-10 min. warm-up. Then you move on to the choreo - so maybe 30 min. of practice? About 15 min. is quickly cycling through smaller groups performing. The last 5 minutes is devoted to Kenny filming his star/rising star students. The dance steps are reasonably set at the beginner/int level. What makes this difficult: You can't actually see any of the steps! The class is so packed, you can't see anything. I really could have learned more watching a YouTube video. There's zero attention to artistry or detail. Like I said, I've attended massive dance classes with celeb choreographers and still came away with so much more appreciation for the intricacies of dance and music and rhythm than when I started. That did not happen here. The Beg/Int Hip Hop class is mostly Kenny going over the dance steps like it's a dance rehearsal and you've seen the choreography several times. I was told that this was the most packed class because of Kenny. If you're going to accept every student who wants to take the class because of Kenny's star factor, make the class 1.5-2 hours long, and increase the admission price. I'm going to guess that people will still flock to take the class with him, and you'll make even more money. Which is the ultimate goal for this kind of studio, right?. Even if only half as many show up, you'll break even. By increasing the class duration, you'll have more time to actually INSTRUCT the masses, thus delivering a higher quality service. Then again, I don't think delivering quality dance instruction is a goal for the studio. The business strategy seems to be more around drawing in big names that get sort of professional level dancers pay for a chance to be in the same room. Overall, the student atmosphere at Playground at the class was very LA and cliquey. I don't even want to bother trying out the rest of the classes here.

Today was my first time visiting the studio. I took a hip hop (beg/int) class and I loved it! The teacher is sooooo good. I love the music, the choreography, and the pace was good for me. So the 5-star is for the quality of the class. Now I'm going to talk a little bit of others. As I see other reviews complain about parking or attitude, or packed room. 1. Parking: It is not easy. I took a Saturday noon class. I was not able to find any free street parking in the back, sooo packed indeed. But I was able to get a meter spot 3 blocks away. 2-hr parking. Not bad if you have low expectation in this crazily crowded neighborhood. 2. The room is packed. Yes, I felt that there were like 50 people dancing in the room. Yes, hardly see myself in the mirror by the time I came in. But I managed to see a little bit through people's shoulder. the instructor rotated line one time, not enough I agree. But--you don't hear complain, because--everyone is so good! I think that's how you deal with the crowd. These people have dancing background! They somewhat know the move, know the feel, know the steps. For them, a little peak will be enough. The rest is just -DANCE! So I guess I don't recommend people who have no dancing background to join the beg/int level class. They will feel frustrated, I agree. I think the studio offers beg/beg level, maybe that's better. 3. Front desk: They are not super warm, they don't talk to you so much. but I think they are just tired of seeing so many people. Every 1.5 hr they will deal with 50 people, they don't necessarily want to talk to anybody after half day! And the studio is already packed, they don't need to attract more people by being nicer. Of course I don't mean it wouldn't be nicer to be welcoming, but I don't think they have any attitude. And I didn't experience anything bad at all. So overall, this is studio is good for dancers who want to learn cool moves, or people who have some experience in dancing and want to learn something new, or beginners just want to enjoy the music and vibe. The quality of the class is great.

This place was super great. It used to be capped at like 50 people per class which is still a lot but you could manage. Now they ripped down a wall in 2019 to get more dancers in every class. Since then if you're in like the back four rows of people you won't be able to see a thing and will just have to learn the moves based on the person in front of you. The dances are still great. But it's disappointing to see such a great company add more space just to so they can make more money instead of doing what's best for their dancers. That being said, still great choreography and super nice instructors.

This space is relatively new but what a great spot for industry and community dancers to dance. It was a Sunday that I had come to take classes (since I was in town for PaleyFest LA). I decided to take Cedric Botelho's Reggae Dancehall class which was pretty int advanced but I had the experience to catch up. He is super fun and energetic which I took an immediate liking - I hope to take class from him when I'm in town. There was a gap between his class and the next. So I decided to grab lunch at the Poke spot nearby. What is cool about this spot is that it's on Melrose and nearby many cool eateries and not too far from The Grove and Beverly Center. The next class I took was a grooves class with Lindsay and Craig - a dynamic duo that taught no combination just grooving to a lot of 90's pop and hip-hop. This was a way for them to bring dance to the community which I loved and respected them for. Kenny Wormald and Robin Antin are the co-owners of the studio and already seems to be flourishing by hiring big choreographers and teachers to take part in their journey! I hope to come back soon and take more classes. Stepping out of your comfort zone is how you grow!

Great vibe, only thing that sucks is that the classes can get really really packed and its hard to see the teacher and for some, learning the moves seems to come second to getting a cute video for the Instagram story though lmao.

Have been wanting to come and try a class here! But these people DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE. Ever. Or emails. Classes/instructors are probably great, but customer service, not so much.

There are some good classes here...but this studio has become like all the others, millennium, Debbie Reynolds, edge, ml, etc. the vibe is impersonal and they run most of their classes at capacity, packing everyone in like sardines. Sometimes the studio is hot like an inferno. Will not be returning to any of the packed classes. There is not enough space to dance. Sad that my favorite new studio has fallen so steeply in quality, and that the huge influx of people has not been properly managed by just adding more classes.

my favorite place to dance. I like to do it . I get a big buzz and if you want to develop yourself this is the place. The only negative is sometimes a lot of people and it is impossible to dance. I love u

I've been to three classes here (one hip hop class and two groove classes). The choreography, vibe, and music is great! For one of the groove classes, there were live drums playing. However, the classes get extremely packed, to the point where you are almost shoulder to shoulder with the other students. The air conditioning can't handle the number warm bodies in the space all at once. In all three classes that I took, the instructors didn't have students switch lines or spots. So, come early if you want to see yourself in the mirror.

Such a great dance studio! Felt super comfortable as a beginner and loved how supportive everyone was. Costs $20 drop in but I don't mind too much :)

Ok so I am going to have to get back at it once I'm in the area more but I started off with 3 of the beg/int hip hop dance classes here. For one, this is the spot, bottom line; but seriously if you're looking to have some fun, get in a serious workout, and learn some swaggy moves, this place is a dream. The instructors are incredibly kind and very patient but also will push you/the class to go your hardest and really get the routines down efficiently. I am a terrible dancer in comparison to any professionals may I add, but there is absolutely no judgement in the environment here and it's just freeing to be able to let loose and try your best at learning what kind of sauce the instructors wanna run through that day. I also appreciate the variety of music and that you won't just go in there and know exactly what to expect. They might catch you off guard but it's always a blast and it's worth the insanely low rates they charge. (Keep in mind you can book in person but you're gonna want to book online in advance otherwise your slot in the class may not be guaranteed.) If you are a more serious dancer than I, there are plenty of different options for courses at different levels and even private classes. All in all it went above and beyond my expectations and I'll never forget the experience

Excellent. Wish we had one in NoCal. Daughter attended classes here in our holiday and absolutely loved it. Great instructor and just enough grit.

My best friend convinced me to try the grooves class with Kennis on Monday nights. My first time at the playground was a little intimidating since I didn't know what I was doing, but everyone in class was super friendly and encouraging. Kennis has such great energy and I'm addicted to his classes! Be ready to sweat!!! There is only street parking, be sure to get here early to find a spot.

I loveeee playground. I take beginner/beginner heels & beginner/intermediate heels. It's really fun & definitely the highlights of my week. It's helped my confidence tremendously & I've met some really amazing people! I do want to be honest about a couple things because I know for me it would be things I would want to know before coming in & wish were fixed: There is absolutely little to no dance etiquette or manners in the beginners & beg/int classes. Like it's shocking. Everyone I've been with has independently commented on this & how mad it makes them. Girls come up in there & really will walk in late to class or wait til the middle of class & then walk right up to the front rows (where you & dozens of other girls have gotten your spot because you got there early to make sure you could get a spot you wanted) & will just stand directly in front of you or directly beside you right in your space so you can't dance. Girls constantly are cutting & getting in your personal space & have the audacity to not only cut & prevent you from being able to dance but then act like YOU are the problem for not moving out of their way. It happens in every. single. class. Some are worse than others but it's bad. The worst though is girls will set their phones up by the mirror to record themselves & then cut everyone in the front or force people actually practicing to move so they can take videos of themselves to put on instagram. I don't even think a lot of girls view this as a dance class or a place to learn & grow - they literally use it as a way to look cute & take a sexy video for their story. Now there's NOTHING wrong with that - I take vids for my insta - but there's multiple ways to do it where you have basic respect for those around you. Literally don't cut. Don't get in someone's personal space. Don't get an attitude when you proceed to do those things & then girls don't move for you. Like come on? If you can't see chances are dozens of other girls can't see. Ask the front rows to squat so you can see the teacher - that is very common & standard! Don't make the whole class about getting a video of yourself. You shouldn't be coming to dance class if the whole point is talk & laugh the whole time, invade other girls personal spaces, make others feel uncomfortable, cut people, have an attitude, & then post vids of yourself on social media. It really is that bad. & the teachers & those working at the desk don't do anything about it. Obviously these girls either have never taken a dance class before or just have forgetten basic decency lol but there should be education on this from the teachers because it seems like so so many girls just truly don't know better. So do be prepared for that. The last thing to note is the classes can be really really packed & if you stand too close to the speakers it feels like you're gonna go deaf lol. Otherwise tho playground is amazing & the pros definitely outweigh the cons even though I sometimes leave wanting to flip some tables lolol & ultimately I'm so so glad I started coming here! It is now a forever studio!

I've been here twice already and I definitely plan on coming here more often. I found out about Playground through Yelp and I'm so glad I did. I've been dancing on and off since I was about 11. I hadn't really danced since college and I was kinda nervous to get back into it, but Benjamin Ayers, Jr is a pro at breaking it downnnn! I took the GROOV3 class and loved it. I got my life! I was sweating like crazy and I honestly felt a lot better afterwards. You're dancing, learning, having fun, and you just feel so accomplished when it's over. Did I mention there is a live DJ?!! Let's be real, clubs are fun but slightly overrated. lol At Playground I get what I need and I don't feel as embarrassed about being a sweaty mess haha they play the best music here and once you get the moves down, you're gonna wanna get it for the gram! Haha! I highly recommend coming here and bringing a friend for a good time. You'll love it, trust me!

I went to the heels classes with my friend and it was a joke. So many people in the class that we were not able to see the instructor. I danced for years and the beginner program is too quick! Some teachers use twerking moves in their dances+50 more moves. How do you expect a beginner to learn all that in 60 minutes?! Keep those dances for intermediate and advance groups. There is absolutely no difference in their Beginner, Intermediate, and Advance program. I was so excited for this studio because the teachers are amazing, but the program is not designed well. I highly recommend all beginners to go somewhere else.

Calling all dancers! The Playground LA is a great dance studio. I signed up on Classpass for the beginner beginner hip hop class with Nick Gilligan. I arrived exactly when the class was supposed to start but there was a huge line outside the door. The class before seemed to be running over so we waited about 10 mins or so before we were let inside. Once inside the dancing began! Nick led us through a quick warm up before going through the steps of the routine. The routine was fun although some parts I think a little advanced for an absolute beginner with not much dance background. The class was packed and finding a good spot where you could see the instructor was hard at times. However Nick did give opportunités for people in the back to switch with people in the front so they could have a chance to see him and themselves in the mirror. At the end of the class he gave some dancers the opportunity to do the routine in small groups with him videotaping. It's was cool to see how some of the dancers picked up the routines effortlessly. I do believe there were a lot of intermediate/advanced dancers in this beginner class. We did end up going over in time so at least the class wasn't cut short Seinfeld we started a bit late. All in all I had a good experience at Playground LA and I'll definitely be back!

Staff there has cold face. Not only one time happened to me. I feel I was not welcome to join them. It's so hard to find parking there too.

I love this dance studio. It's small, intimate and facilitates a warm group environment. The instructors are amazing, talented and helpful. They will stop to answer any questions you have and greet you and create a special community where you feel like you fit in, even when there is a crowded class. Recently I took a groove class that ended my trial package. The instructor was awesome! After talking with one of the other clients and feeling very positive, I walked to the front desk to ask about other options to take more classes. There were 2 women at the front desk, one was sitting and the other was standing. Neither were of color. The woman sitting behind the front desk answered my question about taking more classes by motioning to the wall behind her where the prices were listed and didn't really engage with me. She kept her interaction short, brief and terse. I then asked if I could sit in on the heels dance class that I normally take. I've seen other people sit in during the hip hop dance classes so I felt this was okay. Her reply was that I couldn't. She narrowed her eyes and said this is a space where the ladies come to express themselves so it wasn't allowed. This felt strange because I had seen other women sitting in on hip hop and groove classes. I apologized and she told me not to say sorry. During this entire interaction I felt an uncomfortable hostility towards me. Whether this was a policy or not, I noticed that I was receiving a narrowed gaze, short, terse replies that did not elaborate on class offerings and an overall cold vibe. I wasn't sure what it was about me that caused the hostility and I started to feel upset. I walked out of the studio feeling ashamed as if I had done something wrong by asking a question, uncomfortable & that I was the problem. I also felt the sentiment that as long as I was paying to be in classes the money I spent was be only reason I was allowed into the dance studio. I didn't feel like I was a part of the community there because of the narrowed gaze, short words, and lack of interest in my requests, the denial to watch class for what I felt might be the last time (I have traditionally participated in work study as dance classes have been very expensive for me and I wasn't sure when the next time I would be able to attend class at the playground would be) and the cold vibe. This is the first dance studio in Los Angeles that I considered making my home dance studio, however, the front desk staff that night interacted with me in a way where I felt that I had been silently, quickly and non verbally told I was not welcome. Out of the dance studios I have had the opportunity to attend throughout the US, this was the first time that I felt unwelcome at a dance studio. As the front desk is the first point of reference for many businesses and is also the place where most clients interact and experience the face of the studio and decide whether or not they would like to come back, I feel that the studio should be aware of the interactions and hospitality that their employees, volunteers and staff provide. Having a more inclusive front desk staff that is also inclusive and welcoming of the different types of clients makes a big difference in the reach and overall success of the business. Making a conscious effort to welcome women & men of color like myself to the studio by hiring them on staff and encouraging existing employees/staff to welcome them is a way to show that the studio is not just about marketing multicultural Talent to bring in more clients while neglecting to provide opportunities for them. As women and men of color, there are very few spaces where we can come and feel safe to let go and also be given the opportunity to be a part of a community that is central to self expression, which is essential to creating a healthy community. I want to request that The playground LA be more inclusive of both men and women of color on their staff at the front desk and also speak to their front desk about upholding standards of tolerance and acceptance for other members of their community. I admire the influence and success the Playground has had over the past year since it has opened. I hope that it holds a standard to be a place of tolerance, inclusion and acceptance as one of the newest and rapidly expanding dance studios in Los Angeles.

Took a class while visiting, I had so much fun, it was a cool experience. Level difficulty was perfect in my opinion. Loved it here, teacher was great, had fans inside, just a bit cramped

The teachers are great, but they let the classes get so packed! There really needs to be a cut-off for how many people fit in a class. In an hour dance class I didn't get to watch myself in the mirror even one time. Not to mention there's no room to move, and you're guaranteed to collide with someone next to you at least 10 times. Such a waste of time and money.

This place feels like home. I may not know everyone that attends but I know it's where I belong. So many great dancers have hit this stage and it was awesome seeing it in person. Don't forget a picture with the "Play" sign! It's iconic :)

This is one of best dance studio in Los Angeles . The owner is a professional dancer and has been dancing since he is child . He himself has danced with many famous singers . And he hires only professional, kind , fun , super talented, patient people. My niece enjoys dancing at this studio and does not want to miss any sessions . Her body has gotten a better shape and feels good dancing exercising while she is having fun and making new nice friends thru the activity . We love you and your lovely staff Kenneth .
