Went to see "A Christmas Carol" at the Playhouse, 18 Dec 2023. I've been to several performances at this venue. Great old theater in the classic DuPont Hotel in Wilmington. While advertised as Dickens', it was some unfortunate musical adaptation that, frankly, was awful. Nowhere in the Playhouse's advertisement was this described as a musical adaptation created by the cast themselves. Ugh. At about $70 a ticket, I counted seven people around me that got up and left during the performance. Add to that, a guy near my wife and me was clearly drunk. He sat there singing out loud, repeating lines of the performance, and loudly commenting on the characters. The ushers came after he started a verbal confrontation with a couple in front of him in the middle of the first act. He simply stated, "I'm not leaving" to the ushers and they left. At the end of the show, people came up to him and told him how rude he was, as did we. He then got into another verbal confrontation with the couple who sat in front of him. The ushers (who are all elderly) did nothing. They should have bounced this idiot. Doubt we will ever go back, sad to say. Rudeness even at Christmas.
