The Plough at Bolnhurst

This is a really excellent place to come for a fabulous meal. It’s not cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for. We’ve visited twice now, and it’s just exceptional. The only thing to make people aware of is they aren’t somewhere that is open before their opening time, like a lot of pubs, so wait in your car until the proper time. It’s definitely worth the wait if you’re a little early.

We came as a group of three for Sunday lunch. Two of us had the Sunday beef roast, and I had the hake — honestly the best I’ve ever had, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The roasts were also excellent, and everything on the plate was clearly prepared with care. The service was brilliant throughout: attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. For dessert, we tried the Cream Catalogue. I asked if it was similar to a crème brûlée and was told yes, but it turned out to be quite different in taste and texture and was served cold, so I wouldn’t order it again. The sticky toffee pudding, however, was very nice and definitely worth having. Overall, a great place for a relaxed Sunday lunch with excellent food and service. It is a bit on the pricey side, but the quality largely justifies it.

My husband and I went for our anniversary last night and it was such a fabulous experience. The staff are warm and welcoming. The food is out of this world and overall, it’s fantastic value for money. What a memorable evening! Special thanks to Caitlin who served us. She was so sweet, attentive and made us both feel very comfortable.

We came to The Plough the other day to celebrate our anniversary, and it reminded us once again why this is such a special place for us. The Plough, for us, is simply magic. It’s absolutely stunning at any time of year – whether you’re tucked inside in winter by a crackling fire with a beautiful glass of wine, or outside in the summer sunshine with a cocktail in hand, soaking up the views over the river. It has that rare quality of feeling both luxurious and completely relaxed at the same time. The food is, as always, sublime. Every dish feels carefully thought through and beautifully executed. And the Sunday lunches? Truly amazing. Easily some of the best around. What really sets The Plough apart, though, is the service. I have to say, it’s exceptional – unlike many other places I’ve visited around the world in terms of attentiveness. The team strike that perfect balance of being warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming without ever being intrusive. Despite the stunning setting, the outstanding service, and the consistently beautiful food, it remains remarkably good value for money. We’ll keep coming back time and time again – especially for those special occasions. We’re already looking forward to returning in the summer to enjoy the lawns, the river, and the flowers once the weather improves slightly. A truly special place.

We came for dinner and the space is really lovely and welcoming. The food was good and portion sizes were decent. I opted for two courses and had the scallops (nice flavour) and the whole lemon sole served with potatoes and spinach (well cooked and delicious). Even though I skipped dessert, they surprised me with a plate of chocolate and a birthday message which was such a thoughtful touch. The staff were attentive and friendly at all times.

Its incredible place, top level of food and service, very dog friendly stuff, very cozy inside and outside:) we really was impressed of our dinner🤩 fully recommended fish menu 😋😋😋

Absolutely beautiful inside and out. The food was so delicious and the service was friendly and professional. Such a gorgeous place.

Visited for lunch on a Sunday, food was delicious, lots of depth of flavour, I had a pork belly dish that was comforting while remaining not too heavy, the service is very attentive and the interior is cosy and well spaced, thoroughly recommend
