Where to Find Prime Peruvian Cuisine Across the DMV

"While charbroiled chicken is its mainstay, this Edgewood restaurant features several other noteworthy menu items like palta rellena (avocado stuffed with chicken salad) and papa rellena, mashed potato croquettes stuffed with beef, onions, and pepper." - Julekha Dash

This place never disappoints! Whether you go for the chicken, steak and cheese, or the chorizo sandwich, it's always amazing. I'm so grateful it's close to home—we get to eat here often, and it’s always a treat. Highly recommend it! The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the place is clean with great value for the price.❤️❤️❤️

I drove 45 minutes to try The Pollo Company, and I have zero regrets! The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The owners and staff were incredibly kind, creating a warm and happy environment that made the meal even better. This is not only a great spot for an amazing meal but also a fantastic option for small and/or large catering orders. Plus, their selection of fresh fruit drinks was a perfect complement to the meal. I brought food home for my family, and they loved it just as much as I did! If you’re looking for high-quality food and great service, The Pollo Company is a must-try. I’ll definitely be back!

I got the fried fish with 2 sides (yucca and plantains) - incredible! The fish was crispy and delicious. Fast and friendly service.

Went here to grab a bite before catching a movie at the Alamo Cinema and Drafthouse across from Red Line Rhode Island metro . I saw Device was on menu but it's only offered on weekends ( I was there on weekday). The lovely young lady behind the countered delivered the news as though she was as disappointed as I was. I told her it was okay and ordered something else; then sat down to wait for my meal. When the young lady came to my table she had my beverage but no food; no worries -- I thought it was very considerate to bring my drink while I waited for my food. But she brought good news with my watermelon slushie-- the chef said that if I had 20 minutes to wait, he would make a special order. And get this-- he asked how spicy I wanted my food. And the device was beyond perfect. And the side dishes were right on par with the main dish. I cleaned my plate as though I was being paid by the "Clean Plate Club" to do so. Great food and some of the best customer service I've experienced in a while, even at much more expensive eateries. I will be back!!

If I could give 6 stars for service I would! This small shop was a split second decision after I had been walking aimlessly looking for a dine-in joint. The team runner the place is super hospitable, making sure you enjoy every bite. I ordered a chicken sub with fries and an orange jarrito. Definitely coming back some time!

I haven’t been here in at least a good three years since it was named Huacatay. I found out today that the same family owns it but different name. The chicken is still great as it was a few years back, juicy and tender. The sauces were great too. It was nice to dine here again.

What a lovely hidden gem! You get so much food for such a reasonable price. The chicken was so flavorful and moist, and you could pick either white or dark meat. The chicken was so tasty it didn't even need the sauces, but each sauce was also unique and scrumptious. The staff was so friendly and gave us recommendations when we were indecisive. They certainly steered us right! It feels like a mom and pop shop, so it has a community feel. Would certainly eat here again! ACCESSIBILITY AUDIT: The restaurant was accessible to wheelchair users with a (relatively steep) ramp to enter. There's no accessible door opener, but there's no threshold to enter. The chairs and tables are spaced wide enough to maneuver in a wheelchair. The restroom is also accessible (shown in the image) with grab bars, a roll under sink, and reachable soap/paper towels. The mirror is not low enough for a wheelchair user to use. The garbage can placement may make it difficult to transfer to and from the toilet potentially. The music was loud, so this may not be a good place for people with sensory sensitivity or who have difficulty hearing conversations with background noise. There do not appear to be large print or braille menus. The menu is either on TV screens or print. The print menu has small text that is hard to read.

Google
Let me start with the good first, we were greeted cordially and the restaurant itself was decently clean and well maintained. The food in the other hand was very terrible. I wish they could have spent an extra 25 cents/Lb to replace the broken rice used, chicken was soggy, the skin came off chicken on its own, poor chicken looked abandoned and poorly rescued.... I'm glad I don't rely on this place for my Peruvian chicken fix

Yelp
the pollo company took over the space after huacatay unexpectedly closed in Edgewood. The menus are similar - they serve pollo a la brasa or Peruvian charbroiled chicken. The chicken is great, very flavorful and cooked well. Favorite sides are the arroz chaufa (fried rice) and fried yucca. They have two sauces - green and pink, both are good but I use more of the pink sauce. Online ordering is easy, my order was ready in 10-15 minutes and pickup was easy. Prices are great for the amount of food

Yelp
This was the best Peruvian chicken I have had in such a long time! Living in Northern VA there are so many different Peruvian chicken spots to choose from but this place surpasses all of them! We were in DC visiting and came across this place. First, let me start off with how welcoming the staff was when we arrived. The place was clean and comfortably sat our party of 9. The food was absolutely delicious!! I don't think I've ever had chicken so juicy and flavorful. The sauces were so good! That's usually a hit or miss, but they definitely got the recipe right for the sauces! The yuca was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside with flavor .... Just perfectly cooked! We got the arroz chaufa, fries and plantains and loved it all. My kids went back for thirds of the arroz chaufa and took some to go. Overall, I loved all the food and service we received. We will definitely be coming back. The drive from VA to DC was worth it! This is a must try if you're in the area!

Yelp
The chicken here is very dry and lacks seasoning. Very disappointing. Despite the fact it's one of the only places in the neighborhood to eat, I won't go back again. It's mid overall. I'm actually Latina and I expect a lot more out of a place like this. If you don't mind overpaying for dry chicken and side dishes that have a soap-y aftertaste, you'll be just fine.

Yelp
Food is delicious and fresh! The sides are all pretty yummy but I can't leave without the chaufa rica and that green sauce for the chicken. The chicken is busssinggggg (very flavorful and tender). The service is great, the staff is very friendly and efficient. The place has an overall home-y feel to it that I love also!

Yelp
Superb all around! From the warm, friendly and outgoing personalities of their staff, to their spot on flavoring of their lomo saltado (my favorite); this place it's a hidden gem. The chicken it's not dry and the flavors blend well.

Yelp
I used to frequent this place all of the time, but the chicken is very dry and does not taste good at all. A lot of my military friends would recommend this place, but after my visit yesterday after being ignored patiently waiting in line and them rushing to take my order I will never go back. With all of the other locations that have better chicken that is not dry. Absolutely, do not recommend this place unless every other place is closed and no other food place exists. That is how bad the chicken is.

Catalina H.

Yelp
I tried the lomo salteado and it was delicious, the beef was perfect and the rice was tasty. The personal who works in there are nice and helpful. The place is comfortable and easy for parking.

Yelp
I've been a few times now and keep coming back because I've had great experiences each time. Staff has always been so welcoming. Plus, I'm a sucker for a great drink with my food. The kids loved their food. I took a flan to go thinking I'd just take a few bites and would finish the rest later but devoured it. Definitely recommend this spot.

Yelp
chicken was amazing, plantains even better! make sure you try the Tres Leches. so good!!!

Marek P.

Yelp
Great food, fast and friendly service. I love both the well-cooked, moist and flavorful chicken and the tender lomo saltado. Very good choice for ordering full family dinners at a great price.

Yelp
This place is great! We got the family platter. Whole chicken, large white rice, and large fries. I also got a small side of fried plantains. We got it to go and ate at home. It was quick and so easy. We placed our order, and it was ready in less than 5 minutes! Very nice staff! They greeted us, was patient as we ordered and asked if we wanted any utensils and napkins to go. Everything was still hot when we got home. There are tables to sit and eat there if you want. Chicken was so juicy. The white rice was good. Plantains were really good! The fries were fine. We like ours a litter crisper, but still good, that's just our preference. The sauces were good. We didn't ask but will next time if there is a spicier sauce. We got just the yellow and green sauce. Sorry for the pictures we plated before we took pictures. But we even had leftovers. Overall great addition to the neighborhood. We will be back. This was a quick, inexpensive meal!

Yelp
I was so glad to see another Peruvian spot after Hucatay closed. But this was not it. The chicken was dry and tasted like it was made in old grease. The fries has a kind of chemical taste to them. 2 stars is for the staff who were very friendly but I would not be going back.
