We had an exceptional meal — no question about it. The food was outstanding in both quality and quantity: rich, tasty, indulgent, exactly the kind of premium cooking you hope for when you’re spending serious money. Every dish landed.
The service, however, didn’t match the kitchen. We mentioned it was our daughter’s birthday, and the waiter said he’d “stick a candle on the dessert.” What arrived was exactly that: a literal candle stuck into the plate. No acknowledgement, no moment, no effort to make it feel like any kind of celebration. It felt basic and borderline dismissive.
To make it worse, we had leftovers and politely asked if they could give us anything — a paper bag,— so we didn’t waste good food. The response: “We don’t do take-away.” Zero empathy, zero problem-solving, just a flat refusal. After spending £400, you’d expect at least an attempt to accommodate a simple, reasonable request.
Brilliant kitchen, disappointing front-of-house. If the service matched the food, this place would be exceptional. As it stands, it falls short where it should matter just as much.
