Don’t forget to stop @ The Pop-Hop! What a groovy shop! They are the official group hosting the LA Zine Fest ! Last night we were able to attend a zine making workshop! The event was offered free to anyone looking to hang out & make art with old and new friends & strangers. Free Supplies, snacks, fresh donuts & drinks provided. They feature zines galore from local talent, new books, custom art. The space is available to host similar classes, lectures & events. They have a calendar of events & happenings coming up in the the space. Check this place out. Very sweet & generous people offering a super creative space for the community. Located in a fun spot in the heart of area with lots of other shops on York. It’s a great neighborhood. Easy access to get to & find parking.

I always have the best experience coming here. I used to live nearby and stumbled on this bookstore and found the collection of books to be very inspiring. I'm someone who always has questions and they always have answers! They have even helped inspire me to create my own work and help with all my curiosities of this creative world. A great place to stop by when you have time on a nice sunny day..or gloomy day- whichever :)

Visited this shop on my last trip to LA and loved it so much that I had to visit again! The shop has a variety of books, zines, and artwork—many of which are by local artists, which I love to see as someone not from LA and always wanting to thoughtfully learn more about a community I’m visiting. The owner is really kind. On my first visit, I found a book that was about one of my fav film professors from grad school which I thought was so serendipitous and he gave it to me half-off. This time around, I bought a really cool zine and book of poems. He gave me a free sticker with it too! Definitely a gem and will be a regular spot I visit when coming to LA :)

This independent bookstore is a a hidden gem in Highland Park. It has a great collection of niche books, zines, and trinkets. It also has various events on the weekends that support local creatives and artisans. It is community driven and a great place to feel inspired by locals. I highly recommend a visit.

100% must stop every time I’m in LA! Got some of my favorite artist made books here, great spot for a thoughtful giftie.

Yelp
I was just walking around the area and came across this charming store. They had two walls in the back showcasing different art pieces and this was my favorite. They also had a plethora of unique prints, books, and knick knacks. I even had a question about an item after I had left and reached out via instagram where they responded in a kind and timely manner. Definitely a fun place to go for a meaningful gift.

Yelp
Under new ownership since July 2020, the Pop-Hop is a worker-owned indie community bookshop & creative/educational space. The intriguing window display caught my attention and drew me in. Once inside I was captivated by the whimsical décor and lively atmosphere. The store carries new & used books with a focus on art, design, & pop-culture. You'll also find children's books, classics, and lifestyle publications. They also have a variety of hand-crafted items, which are great for gifts. I was surprised to see the vast array of Zines, which is really cool especially since I published my own music zine for many years. The owners host monthly events & workshops for the community so check out their website for more info: thepopshop.com *Metered street parking & residential parking.

Yelp
What an amazing place. I was immediately "charmed" by Magical Katrina's magic tricks in the store window. But I also ended up buying a wonderful illustrated ghost story. It was also home to Cortney Matz's brilliant Mystery Musical Adventure treasure hunt, where I got to explore the store and discover things I would have otherwise missed. It's located perfectly near York Park, countless small businesses and even Bob Baker's Marionette Theater. Can't wait to go back and discover more!

Yelp
My wife and I have been trying to come to this bookstore for a few months, but they are always closed, don't keep consistent hours, and fail to properly display their hours to the public. Today we walked into the store through their open door while they displayed signs of being open, and they immediately and rudely turned us away for being closed "in a few minutes" without apology or explanation. We are done making the effort to patronize this business. We were hoping for more of an approachable space. Maybe you will have better luck. Call ahead and make sure you go 3-60 mins before they close.

Yelp
I like this place like I like my It's good for books and other stuff like books Sometimes children time and stories Other times just there Maybe you need cute goftd card, go get it Maybe you need trinkets, go get it Put them backwards I'll be again!

Yelp
Such a cool place. Very nice owners. If you're into supporting small businesses, then this is the perfect place. Love the atmosphere!

Yelp
Perfect selection of books for kids and adults. Warm people behind the counter. Bright, pleasant environment. Go here and make your day better.

Yelp
What a great place to stop and browse eclectic books and zines in your leisurely spare time. There were some great books on poetry that I looked through. If I hadn't already bought tons of books at The Last Bookstore the day before, I would have wanted to buy a few from here. My browsing time was cut short as I had walked in about 30 minutes before closing. I can't wait to go back again to check out what they have in stock and how often they re-stock items.

Alyssa R.

Yelp
This place has an amazing collection of unique books. Including some great vintage pieces. I personally love their children's section! Some really lovely finds for a great price! I collect I Spy books because they are genius and beautiful and I happened upon one here! It was in great condition! I snatched it up right away. The owner even said he'd keep his eye out for more!! So awesome. They also had a Where's Waldo book that I grabbed as well. Along with books they have a lot of lovely locally made things. Journal covers, cards, pins, bags etc. A lot of the stuff the owner screen prints right in store. A fun place with something for everyone. I highly suggest checking it out if you're in the area!

Yelp
My daughters and I love bookstores. We spend a lot of time (and money) in them. I always like to find independent bookstores and show my support when visiting a new neighborhood. I was excited to happen upon this cute bookstore when visiting Highland Park. My daughters went straight towards the small but sweet children's selection (seemed well-curated). Sadly right as they were about to begin browsing for their purchase the store attendant shouted over his desk that my kids can't touch the books cause they have food in their hands. My youngest daughter did have a donut when we walked in but had popped the last piece in her mouth before touching a book. As book lovers, we respect our books! When I told him she does not have food in her hands he got up and walked over to check, as if he did not believe me. It made us all feel very uncomfortable and we left empty-handed. Too bad because I would have liked to give this place a chance.

Yelp
Pop-Hop Books and Print is a charming little rabbit hole. At first glance from the street one might think it's a hipster tchotchke shop, which it is, but it's more than that. They have many shelves of (mostly) artsy, classic, interesting books. Some of the books stray into art objet territory, which is cool. There is also a selection of hand made screen-printed shirts and bags. And lots of small hipster knickknacks. This shop is in a prime location, right next to the row of bike racks at the corner of York and Av 50. Worth popping in if you're getting a cup of coffee at de Leche next door or investigating the new comic shop across the street. So, selection of cool stuff: great. Prices: fine. Customer service... ok. The cashier did not interact with me at all except when I paid for my tchotchke. It's a tiny place. I was the only one in there, and it felt a little like I was disturbing her peace and quiet when I went to check out. Pop-Hop is a fairly new shop, I would have loved to learn a bit more about it while shopping!

Yelp
My wife and I love little local bookstores, and Pop-Hop didn't disappoint. Decent selection, and love the little children's nook area for the little ones to enjoy (I have a toddler). Doesn't hurt that it is on the cool stretch on york in Highland Park. Looks like they are building a children's park across the street as well on york and 50th.

Julie M.

Yelp
I'd give them a zero if I could. I went here today to buy the book for the book club. But, the man working the counter was extremely rude to me. I'll never shop here again.

Chemmy D.

Yelp
I was walking along York just a-minding my own business when this shelf of $1 books starts staring me down. Next thing I know, I'm surrounded by favorite zines, local art, and used books lovingly selected from alternate dimensions. I bought the latest Slingshot Organizer, too much sci-fi, and everyone's Christmas presents 11 months in advance.

Jeremy A.

Yelp
Hip bookstore right next door to Cafe De Leche. Being a soon to be dad I gravitated to their collection of kids books. Curious George goes to the dr, Peter Rabbit and corduroy . That scores major points in my book. Get it? Pun intended.

Richard L.

Yelp
Great place that is supporting the indie art movement in LA. If you got time check out the zine section.

Art S.

Yelp
Fine bookstore. Nice variety of books but it could get more organized in the back.

Meg L.

Yelp
I like this place. It is very pleasing. It is small, but charming. It has an interesting array of books (and zines, too!). However, it is random and you may not find anything that you like. But I still recommend stopping and looking around for a few minutes.

Merete R.

Yelp
Very cool and welcoming little bookstore and the owner was really helpful when I needed advice on finding a book on writing.

Jim F.

Yelp
place is no good. $8 for a used paperback that costs new $12. Cashier is rude and kicked me out 2 minutes after closing time. Aisles are too narrow and you always feel like you are in someone's way. Most used book stores are much better than this pretentious place.

Sarah H.

Yelp
I am a huge believer in this amazing little bookstore. The fact that I can walk to it is pretty dangerous--I don't think I've ever left with fewer than ten books. Granted, books are like crack for me--I'm an unabashed bibliophile--but I challenge you to spend some time perusing and not begin to accumulate an impressive stack of your own. The selection here is really, really great. The owner does an excellent job of curating a collection made up of pure awesome; we've gotten everything from James Beard Award-winning cookbooks to art books to poetry collections to vintage children's books and everything in between. Paperbacks are very reasonably priced at about $8 on average, so you can definitely go wild. Pop-Hop also does double-duty as a screenprinting shop, so you can buy a cute tote to lug all of your new treasures home. I almost hate to spread the word about this place, because I am greedy like that, but I want Pop-Hop to be a permanent fixture on York. Grab some lunch at the similarly-excellent Highland Cafe next door first, and you're looking at a seriously relaxing afternoon.

Cindy A.

Yelp
I love seeing book stores open up close to me! I came here over the summer with my son and we sat in the small reading nook for kids. There were great books, toys to play with and plenty of things for me too. We had a great time and I love coming here. Wonderful open space!

Atao L.

Yelp
Great shop! I'm so glad there is a bookstore in the neighborhood, especially with good prices and it's very well-curated. The selection of used books is new and interesting, with a table of new local books. The young lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful when I asked for a recommendation. Definitely my go-to spot for book shopping.

David R.

Yelp
I really want to support this place and we need more independent bookstores but there are a few reasons why I probably won't be doing much business here. The store is cute enough, squeezed as it is into the narrow storefront that used to be the Kristi Engle gallery. The space is bright and airy, with books out front and an interesting window display. However, on browsing, I was disappointed to see a very predictable and safe selection of books at less than tempting prices. I am actually more than happy to pay a few extra dollars for a book from an actual bricks and mortar store, but there was nothing here that one could not get at deep discount online. I would call myself a moderate bibliophile. I am not asking that they ditch the Dave Eggers and coffee table art books for samizdat tracts written by North Korean dissidents three hundred feet under the earth's crust, but I had hoped for something a little more curated that felt as much a labor of love as a pandering to the arriviste York Blvd coffeehouse demographic (see the excellent Mount Analog for a perfect case study of how this balance can be achieved). As with others here, I also find the customer service a little lacking. I am happy to browse uninterrupted but somehow do not feel welcome whenever I go in. All that said, this place could still be great and it does seem that they are interested in stocking sone local zines, etc. Hopefully, their selection will improve over time and independent bookstores can thrive.

Yelp
I'm a former bookdealer, avid book reader and collector, and I frequent a number of the local bookshops. I spend a fair amount of money on books and I'd like to think I'm a friendly, considerate and polite kind of guy to boot. So you'd think I'm the kind of customer a bookstore would welcome. So how come that both times I was in this store I was treated rudely and dismissively? The first time I was distinctly made to feel unwelcome for no reason I can fathom; I resolved to return and give them a second chance--perhaps there was something going on that had nothing to do with me that caused the unpleasant attitude. But the second time, more rude antagonistic behavior. I walked out with the distinct impression I was not the kind of customer they wanted, for whatever reason, perhaps because I don't fit the rising demographic of the newly hip neighborhood? How nice that they must be doing so well that they can drive away customers. I'm not going back.
