"The Populist Brewery Turkey isn’t known for its beer, with most menus dominated by the serviceable yet flavorless Efes. The craft beer movement has been gratefully welcomed (especially by expats), and a few breweries have popped up in Istanbul in recent years. The Populist brewery is part ofBomontiada,a massive complex of art and performance spaces, shops, restaurants, and nightlife on the site of the former Bomonti Beer Factory, which closed in the 1950s and was abandoned for several decades. Populist’s food menu is standard pub fare, with a few surprises like a lamb burger with Carolina mustard sauce and a flatbread pizza with kokoreç (better-than-it-sounds grilled lamb intestines). The rotating selection of 12 beers on tap might include aBelgian Turkish wheat with anise and a hoppy IPA. To reach Bomontiada, take the metro to Osmanbey, and from there it’s a 10- to 15-minute walk through a historically diverse and rapidly changing neighborhood."

The Populist is british/american style establishment offering various options from the Torch Brewery brand in the historical Bomonti Beer Factory. The cuisine is modern style with burger and fries as the main focus on the menu. The location and overall ambience of the re-imagined beer factory is simply fantastic with the inner courtyard housing 3 restaurants and a concert stage. The beer is quite good, however by European standards the large option of 33cl seems somewhat inadequate. The classic hamburger was tasty but quite little for the price. Pricewise it is on par with alternative options in the area, with certain premium typical for Bomonti.

I went to lunch at this place. They have alcohol, but we didn’t order any. We had burgers, and they were good. The service was average. One thing to note is that there are a lot of cats in the restaurant, and they can be a bit distracting during your meal. Overall, the place is good, but the cats can be a bit of a nuisance.

I visited this place to try something different, and it was generally good, not bad. The food was also quite pleasant. The atmosphere wasn’t particularly great, but it was tolerable. Additionally, there were quite a few cats roaming around the tables, which was annoying bit it’s okay ✨

We started with the beer sampler set consisting of 6 different 1/3 of a pint each. I liked the wheat and the red ale ones the most. Then we ordered Guacamole which comes with its traditional sides salsa sauce and tortilla chips. Guac was rich in flavor, and was obviously prepared with its original spices. It could be a bit more chunky, instead of mushy. The beef brisket sandwich with cheddar cheese was superb! Extremely savory and the tenderness of the meat was very good. The place is good for outdoor dining. Especially in the spring and summer. Service is quite good, tables are well kept, clean and neat. Personnel is nice and food comes as quick as possible. Overall score 4.3/5 for an Outdoor Bar

I’m visiting Istanbul from America and was craving a little bit of my home food. This place was perfect and super busy! Even though they were busy I still received great service. Would definitely recommend this place!

Couldn't beleive that I can get a such superb ambiance and christmas vibes drink and gathering with my lovely friends here! So, not an easy job to get a place if you dont have booking in advance but staff were lind enough to give us a place! I could see there are various scenarios to enjoy the location including balcony but it was cold that time! We enjoyed there smoking and wlooking at the cool view of the yard from there! Back to the table, perfect freshly prepared beer with nice accompanied cozy and friendly food choices makes you lose the pass of time and enjoy the moments! Fried items are perfectly prepared with fresh oil and you can easily recognize it that this place is not drink only place but a serious eating experience with more of a dance and drink vibe! As a car guy, just loved the decoration and VW bus inside as a mobile bar area! Thank you for everything!

I liked the vibe and music, the staff were ready to help, I liked the Sangria, it was full of fresh strawberry and orange But they added 10% extra to bill for service although I’m not sure that I saw in the menu

It is really nice place. You have multiple options for tables. Second floor balcony, two story in side and first floor outside. Their waiters are nice, they know English a little and understand what you need and describe what they serve. So you do not have issues. The taste on meat in Turkey 🇹🇷 it is really deferent. So if you don’t like strong smell of meat, do not order it. It is not a issue of restaurant, it is the smell of meat in most of the restaurant in Turkey 🇹🇷. The prices comparing with US, it not expensive. We order a family size BBQ for something around 230TL around $40. Beers 🍻 are around 40TL ($7). (The currency exchange will depend to your card or cash exchange)

Yelp
I am always happy when I get to try local beers, even better if at a local brewery. In Istanbul we had some free time so we took a taxi up to The Populist. The Populist is a brewery and restaurant that's part of the Bomontiada complex, a large area with shops, restaurants, art, and nightlife. The Populist is known for its craft ales, homemade beer, and tasty burgers. It also serves halal food, wine, cocktails, coffee, and late-night food. It has a cool, funky design (see the picture of me). We got a flight of six of their beers, which were all solid! Our favorites were the Tokyo Zen Lager and the India Pale Ale. In the Flight: -India Pale Ale -Scottish Ale -Tokyo Zen Lager -Honey Pepper Ale -Winter Bock -Vienna Lager _______

Yelp
I loved having a couple beers and lunch at The Populist. Evidently, they're set in the building that used to be the old Bomonti brewing plant. They share the complex with a couple of other restaurants. There's plenty of seating inside and outside on the patio facing the courtyard. The menu can be scanned on your phone and is in both Turkish and English. I had the brisket plate for lunch and it was quite good. Let's face it though, the main reason to visit is for the Torch beer. I enjoyed both the IPA and nitro stout. Torch has to be one of the top breweries in Istanbul as far as the quality of their beer.

Yelp
I ordered the salmon and my husband ordered the fish and chips. The salmon looked beautiful but it had no taste, no salt no pepper nothing. It was bland. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips

Yelp
Let's be honest, there are few places in Istanbul like the new Babylon Bomonti. An open courtyard with four restaurants, fresh brewed beer, and a concert hall? Am I in Istanbul or am I in heaven?! Needless to say everything about this place appeals to me. ;The american style bar food, the freshness, the outdoor seating, the terrace. While the prices aren't cheap, they aren't outreagous by any means. Needlesstosay I have found my next hangout spot. A hop, skip and a jump from Osemenbay Metro, and located directly next to the new Hilton Hotel in bomonti, Populist is easily a fan favorite, and a Greg Pinto favorite. Bravo. Bravo. Ps. Try the lamb sandwich and the curly fries with brisket on top, delicious!

Yelp
This place is soooo good! Excellent music with a variety. Service is exceptional! It's clean, and nicely decorated. If I ever came back to Turkey I'd always stop here.

Yelp
Nice people, nice vibes, American cuisine, the food is quite ok but I'll come more for the drinks. Great choice of beers and cocktails.

Yelp
Pretty crappy service and the beer was okay, definitely not worth the trip on the bus...the fries were okay though.

Yelp
Good beer at a little expensive of a price for Istanbul.. however.. their service is absolutely terrible. We waited 20 mins just to get a menu and service was VERY slow and intermittent.. don't come here if you're in a rush.
