"How did it strike you on arrival?A string of 19th century Victorian row houses, lined by porches with slightly ominous identical rocking chairs. This place is dwarfed by Mass MoCA just across the street, but you notice the hotel owner’s attention to detail as soon as you park. Is that a hot tub where you can sit under the stars late at night with your bourbon? Was that a cat in the lobby? A real fireplace? Dang. What’s the crowd like?Art handlers who travel the world might be here, fresh off an installation. There’s the couple on the leaf-peeping trip up from Pennsylvania or over from Boston. And of course there are the art obsessives, who won’t sleep a wink till they make it into Mass MoCA itself. The good stuff: Tell us about the rooms.Vintage plates line the wall of one room, where the bureau is pale green distressed wood. Your room key is sturdy and promising, like an adventure awaits, even though this is a quiet part of the world. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?There’s a Goldilocks charm to the bed every time we’ve stayed here. It always seems like it’s not too small, nor too large, but is just right. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention? The tubs are so gorgeous you’ll want to pull yours from the floorboards and take it home. Also, if you miss out on the hot tub, at night, under the stars and foliage, with a neat spirit in your hand (they’re fine with that at the front desk), you are not doing it right. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The fat robes, so plush they’re almost unwieldy, are a damn dream. __Anything stand out about other services and features? __Take note of the heated pool, knockout hot tub, an good whisky selection. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?So long as you're not a diva needing to count threads in the sheets, Porches' style and attention to detail may just ruin you for other boutique hotels." - Alex Van Buren

Google
The staff is super friendly and offered some discount tickets to MoCA while making the hotel reservation. The pool/hot tub/sauna combo felt very adult friendly and calming. The rooms with the porch and claw foot tub are large with excellent decor. The breakfast was a surprise-the best ever in America. I highly recommend this hotel for a MoCa visit or a Berkshire get-away.

We stayed for three nights in early August 2024 at The Porches Inn. We liked our room (#26, next to the hotel reception) for its quaint, cleanliness, and quietness. I had heard that the rooms would be noisy because of road traffic outside. But if you closed the windows (it's air-conditioned), it was quiet. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good and plentiful (a lot of lox and boiled eggs and stuff.) Mass MoCa was across the street and many restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Google
Our room was well appointed and very clean. The bed was very comfortable with quality linens. There was a very nice large sink and vanity counter top in the spacious bathroom and the plumbing worked well. ||The breakfast was good with plenty of options. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly.

Google
Nice place, if a bit run down and shabby. The towels on checkin were dirty with red stains. The bed in our 1 br suite was poor- lumpy and slanted to one side. The pool has seen better days for sure… the report of my eyes says it needs a deep deep clean and isn’t maintained well. The pool house is the same. No soundproofing between rooms meant I was woken by an upstairs wild rumpus both nights. Staff is friendly. Breakfast offering so so… runny thin yogurt, those fake scrambled eggs…

Google
Good location, right across from|Mass MoCA. Right near some great restaurants (some you can walk to). Decent (not great) breakfast included. Nice gunnite pool. Ask for a room at the back of the buildings, as it’s on a very busy, noisy street.

Google
Killer hotel. Huge rooms and bathrooms. Great ambiance. Really nice pool. Good breakfast offering. And if you're going to Mass MoCA (and boy should you) it's RIGHT across the street, a 2 minute walk.

The proximity to Mass MOCA was amazing. Enjoyed the pool, hot tub and sauna. Very friendly staff. A nice stay to rest and relax.

Google
Had a great stay. Our room was very clean, Staff was wonderful, the breakfast was good and constantly being refilled, the rooms were fun, there is a heated pool, sauna, hot tub, and even the concrete around the pool area was heated for year round swimming. The bathrooms were better than I even have at home. Right across from massMoca. I absolutely recommend you to stay here and we will be back.

Yelp
What a beautiful place! Our room was very comfortable, the grounds of the inn are spectacular and very conveniently located near MOCA . Definitely go back and stay for a longer time!

Yelp
I have wanted to visit this inn since it opened. I remember reading all about it. It was fine. I feel it was expensive for what it offered. The breakfast that was included in it, though repetitive was fabulous and thoughtful. Bagels, cream cheese, lox, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, fresh juices, coffees and teas. We had 2 breakfasts and took the same things. Bagels, lox and cream cheese, OJ, coffee, eggs. There are a couple. of baked goods that were very disappointing. They should upgrade those definitely. The rooms were fine. We were automatically upgraded to a suite because we paid in advance and went mid-week. The bathroom was lovely, nothing to change. The hallways and rooms were a bit dated. Fresh paint, cool colors, but old. The room AC units were loud too. Was ok but wouldn't return. In the hallways there is great unusual art. Like what you would put into your own home which is cool and unusual. The colors they chose to decorate with were wonderful. But, for example, we had a painted old wooden floor with throw rugs. A bit uneven. Not something I'd ever put into our home. The grounds were very nice. It was nice weather when we were there, and we brought bathing suits but the pool was covered with leaves. They are expanding which is cool. Mass Moca is right there which is nice, and this was very centrally located which is also nice.

Yelp
Charming, antique decor in a conveniently located hotel. The bedding and pillows were the most comfortable we had on this trip. Has a small bar for happy hour available for pay. The breakfast was included and was very good with nice variety. Food appeared to be freshly cooked on site.

Yelp
Had a wonderful mid week get away. Pool/ hot tub/ sauna and large common areas are all great! Excellent full breakfast including interesting breads/ cheeses/ lox, etc. They will even make you espresso if you request it... The staff is extremely helpful on everything. We ordered a take out pizza and they let us use all the common areas to have a nice sit down. (Restaurants close early there...) Rooms are large and wonderful -- bathrooms are all upgraded and lovely. Close to great museums -- the Clark Institute was our favorite ---and across the street from Mass Moca... Strange policy of not bringing your own wine/beer into the rooms ... ?? Other than that - terrific !

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Oh so relaxing...I am glad I stayed here. My bed was super comfy. I woke up late both days I was there as I felt so cozy in the bed. I took a bath each night in the claw foot bath tub and it was heavenly. I did not check out the pool, hot tub or sauna but would next time. The staff was very kind and helpful. My room was very clean and the decor lovely. The inn is close to so many attractions in the area. I would absolutely stay here again.

Yelp
As someone who has been going to MassMoCA since it opened I've long since wanted to stay at the Porches. You can't beat the location, that's for sure. The rooms are pricey, which is to be expected, but it didn't feel like it was worth paying so much for what turned out to be a rather small and basic room, and one that's definitely showing its age. The bathroom took up more than a third of the space too, which was really odd. The minibar prices are astronomical and you'd be better off just driving to a nearby store and buying wine there, which is what we wound up doing. I will say that the room was clean, and the staff members we spoke to were friendly and nice. The grounds are beautiful, and we arguably spent more time at the fire pit than we did inside the cramped room. The breakfast was passable but nothing spectacular. Overall it was an OK place to stay, and I'm glad I had the experience to say that I had the experience of staying at the Porches, but that seems to be most of what you're paying for here.

Misty C.

Yelp
Never again. I have never experienced a hotel this loud, it's at the Punk'd/this has to be a joke level of bad. Just sitting inside your room, you can clearly hear people talking at full volume both inside and outside the building, people at the pool screaming incessantly, just nonstop noise. This is not a place to relax - if you like the boarding house vibe where it's just constant chaos, this is the place for you. The walls are seemingly made of cardboard and the doors cannot close without slamming. The room itself is fine, nothing spectacular but it's a place to sleep, but holy crap who can sleep in this place!?! I'm so glad we paid over $300 a night to hear every single person on the property's conversations all night long - and in the morning, we had the pleasure of listening to forks and knives clang on plates, chairs scraping back and forth incessantly, and even louder levels of screaming, slamming, and stomping that started bright and early at 6 am.

Yelp
The Porches were an excellent place-location wise, right across from Mass MOCCA. Enjoyed staying there and we spent time at the pool and the hot tub when we weren't, out & about. Excellent continental breakfast but the setup to serve yourself could be more streamlined. It would help the workers and the customers. I would have appreciated a closet in my bedroom not just a coat rack to hang clothes on and a long mirror. There was one long mirror but it was upstairs in another bedroom which you needed to access by a spiral staircase. I am 4' 11" and it was impossible to use any of the hooks in the bathrooms due to my height. Please consider fixing that? We will come back again. Great staff, good service and very comfortable place to spend some time and oh yes extremely comfortable beds, mattresses and bed linens. Thank you.

John A.

Yelp
Stayed here for 2 nights and loved the place. So much more fun that the usual chain hotel. The rooms at the Porches Inn are artsy, unique and very welcoming! Location is perfect as MASS MoCA (museum) is across the street and "downtown" is also right there. I did have a room in the back of one of the buildings so there were no issues with traffic noise on the main road out front. Wish I could have stayed longer as I did not have a chance to try the pool and hot tub!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. Located in a college town, across from a wonderful contemporary art space, it seemed retro-quirky cool, and I'd hoped the vibe would've been too. Alas, that was not the case. We arrived at the reception desk a couple hours earlier than check-in to find, we were all but completely ignored while the clerk fiddled with a paper without looking up for minutes. When she saw us, we were not greeted, but instead, informed that she would text or phone when a room became available. That was OK with us. Our main mission was to visit MASS MoCA across the street anyway. But still, the experience was kinda sour. Well, we never did get notified, and in fact, when we returned a couple hours after check-in time, that gal was long gone. We were given keys by another, and with little explanation other than breakfast hours, we were sent on our way. We never learned about amenities or anything. had to ask about the alcohol bottles off to the side, and only then were we told that a drink might be made by same desk clerk. We went elsewhere to imbibe with a meal later. Parking was located at the other end of our 2nd floor row house space. Dragging luggage down the street and up the stairs was not easy for these two elders, so be advised to request a lower level if needed. The whole place seemed to be full of older guests than younger ones so it's weird that the accommodations did not cater to elders. The room was small but clean. The little porch was cute. Our bathroom was spacious and the robes were a nice touch. The appliances worked well and the water pressure was good in the shower. We saw a pool and someone in a hot tub. Noted a sauna as well, but it was too cool out to use any of the amenities, much less comment on their quality. Do know that a $10 daily charge is added to the overall bill for these amenities whether used or not. Breakfast in the morning was served with much the same attitude as was received at the reception, unfortunately. No one was greeted. Guests were largely ignored. The dining area was clean though, and that was nice. Sugary or fiberless cereals were dispensed , but the granola in the glass bowl was really good, and i recommend it. Coffee was hot, but watered-down weak for those whose palates are accustomed to great brews. All in all, the inn seems way overpriced and staffed by people who did not appear to be invested in hotel service excellence. That's too bad, because the price point is high and has much potential, but at least on this visit, it just did not deliver.

Petra K.

Yelp
Honestly, I was kinda disappointed. We booked a room in the sage building because we have a dog. Our headboard was fabric covered and had a sheet pinned onto it.....I guess it was dirty or stained under there. But there was a layer of dust and fur on the top of the headboard and it's pinned on sheet. There was a layer of dust and fur under the bed. These 2 things totally grossed me out. For $250 a night, I expect a clean room. It was gross. Also one of the grounds keepers felt it necessary to run the weed whacker @ 8:15am just outside our room......not a great way to wake up on vacation.

Kai C.

Yelp
Nice place to stay in North Adams. So convenient to Mass moca (it's literally right across the street!). We stayed in a suite with microwave, toaster oven, sink, mini bar, small fridge AND a washer dryer! Makes traveling during COVID so easy! The gas fireplace was amazing to have during cold days and nights. The decor is quirky with retro touches. Not for everyone, and I'm sure some people won't get it. I like that its NOT like every other cookie cutter hotel chain. Staff is courteous and friendly. There is a small hiking trail up the mountain behind the hotel. Parking was convenient, right next to our room. WiFi was pretty fast. Would stay here again if in the area.

Martholemew Z.

Yelp
Kind of a mixed bag. Definitely overpriced. Some parts clean, many parts dirty. See photos of our air duct. Staff was slow, somewhat nosy and rude. You really can't beat that location, though. It's riiiiiight behind Mass MOCA....and it's also riiiiight in a busy street! And our window as close to the road. Not much traffic on Sunday, though. Hey...people of yelp! Check out the pictures hanging on our walls. Looks like the hotel went for an "Eastern" motif. About as subtle as Kowloon in Saugus! Definitely made my wife feel a bit weird, that's for sure! Is it racist? I won't be the judge. Let The Porches know what you think. Let me know, too!

Candace D.

Yelp
It's March 13, 2020 and though we have talked with the management of this inn about the issues of a 69 year old with heart issues and 70 year old with compromised immune system and asthma, the management absolutely refuse to refund. Grasping our $$ they deigned to roll the reservation to May...maybe later, but the reason we wanted to be there was NOW and not just some random drive an hour from home. It's a sin that this is allowed. But given their greedy policy, I don't recommend them. When Broadway, NBA and NCAA etc are shutting down and nearby MASS Moca canceling events...this is obscene. March 14th. After forwarding a Hilton mailing about refunding EVERYTHING during this extraordinary time, Husband received call from hotel manager stating they would refund us. Will report.

Perri V.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Definitely stay here if you are visiting MASS MoCA- it's right across the street. It's adorable. Several old houses connected by porches with a 24/7 pool, hot tub, and sauna. In general, it is the cutest little place. In the reception area, they have a pop up bar with local beer, wine, and spirits, a fireplace, and tons of board games to play. Also, coffee, tea, and cookies are out all the time. In the morning you can have breakfast delivered to your room, or eat in the dining room. They have delicious muffins and pastries, as well as cereals, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, etc. My favorite thing about the whole place is that there is a cat that lives in the reception area and greets everyone. You can't get much better than that. My only complaint is that the wifi was terrible. I'm not sure if it's a problem in all of the rooms, but it was definitely an issue in mine. So maybe don't plan on doing any major internet work while you're there.

Lindsay S.

Yelp
Porches is the coolest! We came here as a group of nine for my mom's 70th birthday. We all split up into 3 rooms - a 2 bedroom, lofted suite, a 1 bedroom suite, and the deluxe king suite. All the rooms were fabulous! Each suite had a pull out couch for additional space (if you needed it). The bathrooms are beautiful, clean white marble. We had a separate shower and tub in our bathroom and the shower head was one of those rain-like shower heads. It was so lovely! The heated pool and hot tub are open 24/7 and are situated next to a nice "pool house" with a large gathering space and a couple of sauna rooms. The employees at Porches were super friendly and helpful. We had the complimentary breakfast, which wasn't your typical continental breakfast. They had homemade granola, fresh squeezed juices, chocolate croissants to die for, among plenty of other food and beverage options. Porches is a quick walk to Mass MoCA and some of the downtown North Adams restaurants. If I was ever in the area again, I would definitely go out of my way to stay here.

Jenny M.

Yelp
We had such a great first experience here. My husband and I stayed a night here and truly enjoyed our stay. The staff is very friendly, the king room with the porch + updated bathroom was perfect. I even got to enjoy the beautiful bathtub while we sipped on champagne the room provided us with (extra charge) The sauna and pool are 24 hours, which we did enjoy. I really have no complaints! We do plan on coming again with our pup (yes! Dog + cat friendly!) and with my stepson, he'd absolutely enjoy the 24 hour heated pool.

Michelle D.

Yelp
They are very nice, however I was extremely disappointed. I regret the 2.5 hour drive and money spent. Very expensive for what you get. Pool was advertised under false conditions and was NOT cozy at all. The building I stayed in smelled of mildew.

Lauren K.

Yelp
The owners took a risk a decade ago that delivers more than many could have hoped for. In the reflection of MassMOCA, it is a delightful homage to a time when the Catskills and Berkshires were a playground for middle America in the summer.

Addy G.

Yelp
This is my second time staying at the Porches Inn. 10 years ago, when I graduated college at MCLA, less than half a mile away, my college roommate and I got a two-story suite at Porches to celebrate us graduating. Just a few days ago we attended our 10 year reunion in which we were able to secure the same two-story suite as before. Talk about a full circle. From what I remember from our prior stay, is that it was delightful, Comfortable, and so much fun. It is very relaxing. It is less than a mile away from Mass MoCA, the campus, and downtown North Adams. It is on the pricier side, but by far the best place to stay in all of North Adams. They are old houses that are all painted different colors, turned into hotel rooms. Think if a bed and breakfast met a hotel. Because there are so few places to stay in North Adams, I would highly recommend making a reservation far before the time you want to stay. There is a lot of vacancy, but also a lot of interest. Upon arrival, you can usually check in around 3 PM as long as your suite is cleaned and ready to go. They always have coffee, tea, and cookies waiting there for you. They also have a bar & game room adjacent to the front desk. There is a small gift store that you can purchase Porches themed paraphernalia. They have an incredible hot tub and heated outdoor pool as well as a sauna that is open pretty late. They also have a fitness center. They have two parking lots on each end of the property. You have to order coffee in the morning because they serve it in the toolbox. It's very cool. I've never stayed in one of the regular rooms, but I highly suggest if you have two couples, or two people to stay in the suite. Each floor has its own room and a full bathroom. This is a relaxing, convenient, and ultimately enjoyable stay. I highly recommend Porches.

Miriam W.

Yelp
I'm writing this review 3-4 years later, but my fondness for this place is that strong that I remember most details fairly vividly. That's how good it was. LOCATION Now, it's not a party town, and it's not a hip and happening area. This is an area for retreating, relaxing, and exploring. It's a lot of nature, the sort of thing you imagine when you hear the word "Catskills." Let's also note, that I am a black female and the word "Catskills" both weirds me out and fills me with fascination. It is a place my people don't normally hang, and Massachusetts is a state we also don't normally hang in. I stick out like a sore thumb. That aside - I experienced very little weirdness other than occasional staring by townsfolk as I was out and about, and as to the hotel ... SERVICE As some have mentioned, I didn't get *exceptional* hotel service. But remember where you are. This is not a travel hub, a business hub, or a luxury hub. This is just a nice retreat for the quaint country stay. It's not a small and intimate B&B, it's not a resort. So I wasn't offended by my polite but not necessarily "warm" service. If I was in another type of place I may have been irritated but I was only a little surprised. But I think of it as a cultural difference - I'm from the West Coast. East Coast is just different. Californians are considered too warm and fuzzy and open. I figured the locals were just doing as normal and I should not be so sensitive. My room was serviced every day, and I had breafkast included in my room and delivered to me every day. I think you're able to pick what you want in your box or call it down, they're a basic "content" to the breakfast and you can tweak (like say you want no milk and only orange juice or coffee, etc.) ROOM I too got the deluxe, a huge bed, a desk area, a seating area in front of the tv armoire, and a huge bathroom. That bathroom blew my mind, it was gorgeous, the whole room felt very period-era, modernized but also country chic. But the bathroom - sophisticated, elegant, gleaming white and black tile, it was like something right out of Restoration Hardware and it made me tear up with joy at it's glory when I laid eyes on it. To be frank, I've never seen a bathroom like it since. There was just something different about it - in other glamorous bathrooms I've been in, they're usually using a pink or black marble, it's very "trite," vaguely nineties, dated looking, and has very little character. Even if the remodel is brand new, it looks like they're trying too hard to make class happen, but they're just boring or cheesy. But THIS bathroom? Glamorous. The toiletries they provide - I had never heard of, and fell in love with. Some crisp luxury brand in yummy bottles. I'd use these over the stuff in the Four Seasons any day. I will say that I recall there being an issue with an almost hospital-white fleurescent glare to the lighting, and extreme cold (March I think), and not being totally pleased with my shower head (weak water pressure or something, can't remember), but generally, the bathroom was a win. The bed was just a bed, nothing special, the linens were a bit on the cottagey/grandma side to me but given the huge amount of space in the room and other amenities, I didn't mind. Nice wood floors. The chair at the desk was not the most comfortable, but I believe there was internet. Can't remember if it was free, but I got my work/email on. ADDITIONAL HOTEL STUFF This not being a full service hotel, I think I had to wait around a while for someone to help me with my bags up the stairs; plus there's no room service. ========= All in all, it served as a great spot for me for about 4-5 days - I was on a mix of a writer's retreat on my own plus attending a friend's wedding. We did some naturey hikey stuff in the vicinity but I didn't get too much time beyond that. If I'm ever in this region again (unlikely, har har) I'd definitely stay here again.

Ashwin P.

Yelp
They did a great job with these rooms. The porch theme is great and yhe touches are very thoughtful. The rooms a nice and well done including flatscreen tvs, netflix, etc. There's also a year round 24/7 heated pool and hot tub. Even though it was cool when we arrived, both were great and quite popular. As we left in the morning, the pool was again in-use by two people, so it wasn't just us. My complaints have to do with the new style phine in the room, which has an lcd panel which was vey bright. At first I thought I could turn off the screen easily with the light bulb icon, and it did turn off, but then it kept turning on after a minute or so. Really? We ended up throwing a pillow over it, but it seems ridiculous to have such a bright screen without clear info on how to turn it off. Speaking of which, I'm glad we brought our own pillows as the provided ones were quite flat. At least it made for a nice phone cover. Lastly, the biggest issue was that we apparently had new neighbors arrive above us late last night. They kept moving around for hours - what are people doing in their rooms for 4 hours? Maybe they were rearranging furniture because it was crazy loud until midnight. We could hear their rolling luggage across the floor every time, the shower they took, and every step back and forth. Clearly the floor are poorly insulated. We were going to complain, but we kept thinking "how long will they really be up"... Apparently until about 1am. Of course they were also awake at 6am as well, so that sucked. We complained as we were checking out in the morning. Unfortunately while the staff was apologetic, they didn't really offer anything other than a note that they'll make sure to put us in a second floor unit if we come back. If things are that bad, don't put people below another unit at all, or fix the problem, or even just throw down a carpet upstairs to reduce the noise (the porch theme means there are wood floors everywhere, otherwise). They told us that we could havr called and they would have told them to be more quiet, but we didn't think they were doing anything intentionally noisy, it's more about the poor design of the floor. Besides, we were expecting they would stop sooner than later. Anyway, I rated it two stars lower because of the poor design and the lack of any meaningful offer. We didn't sleep well (the primary function of a hotel!) and the lack of any discount or something for our current stay was disappointing. I do agree that a second floor stay next time would be much better, but if your lower floors are so bad, then don't put anyone on them or under another person! Or, as I said, fix the problem. Tldr: Be sure to get a second floor unit! Other than the noise issues and lack of compensation, this place is really quite nice!

Yelp
This place is amazing, I seriously did not want to leave. It's all the little details around this place that make it so great: The way the rooms are decorated. The homemade chocolate mints left bedside. The free delivered breakfast that comes in the most adorable lunch box, with the juices in old school milk bottles. The fire pit outside, with the lit path to get to it. I could seriously go on and on. Everything about this was perfect, not a single complaint! Even if you're not looking to go to Mass MOCA, you should come here for a relaxing getaway weekend. One note, not all the rooms have porches, and it's definitely worth the extra money to get one.

Yelp
We visited North Adams for the sole purpose of visiting MASSMoCA, as many do, and we had a lovely time. The bathroom in the room was insanely beautiful, the bed decadent, the front desk staff was really kind and informative, and the hot tub was open 24 hours. Delicious. Though it felt a little overpriced, for sure. While I like the idea of breakfast being served to you in "retro lunch boxes" it kinda sucks when your breakfast is a stale croissant and some jam. It just is!!! I'm sorry. The breakfast sucked. Also this is super creepy and weird but none of the photos we took in the parlour/game room on either phone uploaded to either of our computers. Everything else did. Odd? Also the parlour/game room desperately needs a single deck of cards. There was an Archie Bunker board game but no cards! Plus the room is haunted. Lord this place is cool.

Yelp
A wonderful place to stay when you are visiting the amazing cultural resources of North Adams in Western MA. Hotel rooms are carved out of Victorian houses, retaining much of the charm but with upscale amenities. We were lucky to have a suite with kitchenette and even the coffee was local and excellent. Adorable and artsy and convenient, with a 24h pool and hot tub. Great continental breakfast and pop up bar in the charming central lounge with fireplace, where if you like you can mingle with other guests and smile at the kitty, Sabine. Best service, reasonable prices, super quality place to say. We will be back!

Yelp
The Porches Inn is located in North Adams, MA across the road from the Mass MOCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art ). The Inn resides in a series of 6 renovated interconnected Victorian row houses. The inn oozes casual chic and the rooms have a retro Pottery Barn feel. The bathroom alone is enough to make me go back with its large, walk-in, glass enclosed shower and seperate oversized clawfoot tub. Porches is the perfect place to stay for a getaway in The Berkshires.

Yelp
The pros: A fantastic location. Very friendly staff. Huge rooms, with enormous bathrooms. A pool. A separate TV room. The cons: The walls are thin. I heard every door slam all night. The breakfast was disappointing. Nobody can make a decent homemade muffin?

Yelp
Always great!! It is a home away from home. They took all COVID precautions and made you feel safe. Love the pool and the breakfast to go.

Yelp
Came here at the last minute because our first hotel was a dump, and we needed a dog-friendly place to stay. I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. The staff is the nicest I've ever met, and the hotel is kept immaculate. There is a Chargepoint in the parking lot, so we can charge our car overnight. (Make sure you install Chargepoint on your phone to activate the charger!) The hotel will provide a kennel in the room on request, which is great for walking downtown for dinner. I was able to pull my car up right up to the door to take everything in. My family is bad at packing, so this really helped. I've really enjoyed the breakfast. Fresh pastries, fruit, a giant block of gouda cheese, coffee, hard-boiled eggs... The orange juice really tastes like it's fresh-squeezed. So far I haven't taken full advantage of the breakfast because we planned for our first hotel which had a kitchenette, so we've carried some food into the breakfast with us. (Let's face it, if you're here in the fall you should carry some apple cider donuts in with you.) They also have a bar. I have young children, so I haven't left the room at night to use the bar, but in my younger years I'd really enjoy it! The hot tub looks great. I didn't bring my bathing suit, though, because the first hotel didn't have a hot tub. I'll need to remember it next time I come. (Oh, and did I mention how awesome the staff is? I did? I still can't say enough how much I love the staff here. They really saved my vacation.) The one last thing that I love about this place is the real wood fire pit. The staff kept telling me that someone would build the fire for me, but I love building wood fires so much that I just took the matches, paper, and cardboard that they provided. One tiny thing to consider: This hotel is in a historic building. Even though it's maintained as best as is humanly possible, there's still a few lumps in the floor and kinks in the doors. If this kind of thing bothers you, though, you probably aren't capable of enjoying a vacation and should stay home and mope. Another thing to consider: The decor is period to the age of the buildings. Someone worked very hard to find things like antique decorative plates and needlepoint. Personally, I'd prefer a few modern pieces thrown in, but I appreciate the idea. Again, if a room with some 200 year old antique plates bothers you, you probably need to re-evaluate your attitude towards a vacation.

Yelp
The Porches Inn is as beautifully appointed, welcoming, and convenient a hotel as could possibly be imagined. We took advantage of one of the numerous specials listed on their website (which offered a discounted rate and a bottle of wine kicked in for good measure), and the indulgence that was well worth the price. The rooms are spacious, immaculately clean, and decorated in a unique and appealing style so cozy that it makes you want to renovate your house to match (they are aware of this, and many of the furnishings and other pieces can be bought in the lobby gift shop). Although you can choose to pay a premium for a private porch or a fireplace in your suite, communal versions thereof are numerous (and very cozy). Also, the sauna, fire pit, pool, and hot tub round out the offerings beautifully. And lets not forget the goodies - fresh warm cookies and hot cider are available in the lobby and sitting area, and the turn down service comes with a tasty homemade peppermint patty. Breakfast can be obtained either in the dining room or as complimentary room service (wander to the dinning room though - the selection is better and you can feast on baked goods and high quality tea to your heart's content). If you don't feel like being cooped up, trays are also available so you can take your meal out to the porches for a more serene breakfast. All around a big winner.

Yelp
Stayed here 2 nights in the building with the reception area / dining room located downstairs. The noise was the biggest drawback. The door and walls were so thin you could here everything going on downstairs which included breakfast prep in the morning, loading and unloading all day via the side door, plus all the cars driving buy the busy street directly in front. Pros: friendly staff, very nice bathroom, can't beat location to MassMoca Cons: really noisy in this particular building, bulky key + access card combo to access room/ pool

Yelp
Wonderful place full of atmosphere and artistic decor as well as high end touches such as plush towels and sheets as well as nice robes. I loved going to breakfast and then rocking on the porch and then going to the pool and outdoor jacuzzi. All in all a GREAT find near willamstown and mass moca(great view of it across the street!) Will return and recommend!

Yelp
This place is an ideal hotel if you are visiting this area. There is a continental breakfast that includes things such as coffee, croissants, and muffins. There is a pool and a hot tub, as well as a sauna. Each room has a TV with an AppleTV hooked up to it. A mini-fridge can be provided among request. Warning to people who are allergic to cats, there is a cat in the main building (or wherever the check in desk is).

Nikki C.

Yelp
We had a mostly good experience at the Porches. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location and amenities were also very nice. However the building is very loud and resonant so our moderately loud neighbors woke us up very early. We also never had our complimentary breakfast brought up to our room as was offered. The room and experience were satisfactory overall but unsure if I would stay there again.

Julie S.

Yelp
I would definitely stay at the Porches again. Friendly, helpful staff (including Leo the beautiful golden retriever!). It is so convenient to Mass MoCA - walking distance to in-town restaurants and having outdoor pool and spa in the winter is especially nice. The room was clean and well-appointed.

Imo M.

Yelp
Well, what a difference a year makes... The Porches disappointed us immensely during our visit. From unprepared reception, to poorly managed services: No coffee at breakfast; no towels at the pool; and discontented guests commenting about their less than positive experiences. Makes you wonder why you're staying there! Despite its unbeatable proximity to MassMOCA, we will have to find refuge in Williamstown next time we visit these parts. Thumbs down all around Porches.

Martha C.

Yelp
My brother treated me to a stay at The Porches. We had a wonderful time. Our rooms were very comfortable and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The bed was perfection!

Michael C.

Yelp
We stayed at Porches after four days on the Appalachian Trail. We simply couldn't have asked for a better place to rest our weary bones! The room was clean and beautiful. 24/7 access to a hot tub, pool, and sauna. Thank you for making us feel welcome!

Yelp
amazing!! been coming here for years.. can't believe I havent reviewed! they have excellent rooms, staff, and facilities. the hot tub is always a fan favorite and with mass moca across the street, it is an amazing location! it has great breakfast at a modern facility and cookies, coffee and hot chocolate is the best! kim, the manager, is the best! he is so accomandating. best stay ever! (also close to lots of skiing!)

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and for the most part we found it a nice place to relax and unwind. The room was great - clean, spacious, and cozy (superior room on second floor). Bathroom was huge, and we liked that there was a a seating area in front of the TV. We were at the back of the building so it was very quiet. Bed was comfy too. The inn is a very short walk to Mass MOCA and several very good restaurants (The Hub, Taylor's Fine Dining, Gramercy Bistro), as well as to shopping and banks. Also, the free wifi in the room worked great. Where the inn falls short is the hospitality, or lack thereof. When we arrived the person at the front desk was polite but made no effort to ask how our trip was, where we were from, tell us a little about the inn. Not a big deal but was surprised that he wasn't friendlier. The next morning at breakfast this same person was running the breakfast room. I first got a dirty look when I walked in; breakfast is until 10 and I walked in at 9:40. I guess he was annoyed since he was already cleaning up. Then when I asked a question about the coffee and which mugs to use I barely got an answer. He made me feel very uncomfortable and I actually did not go down to breakfast the next morning because of that. They also never cleaned our room. We did go out late morning, but did not come back for a few hours, so we were surprised to find the room the same as we left it. We were only there for 2 nights so we didn't mind too much but it was disappointing to walk into a room that hadn't been tidied up. Checkout was similar to checkin (although different person); polite but no questions about how our stay was, etc. Again, not a huge deal, but I would just expect the staff to be express some interest in their guests, even if they have to fake it. I would stay here again if I was in the area because it is nice and comfortable and convenient.

Yelp
Cozy, clean, artistic. Wonderful stay. The pool is fantastic, so calming with gray stone and melts into the land. Nice staff. Comfy bedding. Three sticking points: Sauna was broken and not hot. Charge $5 for fitness - unnecessary. Should be free when charging their room prices. First words upon arrival are "can I see your card (charge card) please?"

Yelp
I had seen the Porches Inn in a documentary about Mass MOCA. That said, it was my first choice of lodging for our stay in North Adams. After reading some of these reviews I was prepared to deal with an unfriendly staff. Nothing could have been further from the truth. I think a vortex took the aforementioned 'FDAH' back to Brooklyn and replaced him with smiley, more chipper staff who were nothing but helpful - even when I informed them that I was a clutz and broke a lamp. I returned to the room to find the glass swept up, the bed turned down (with mints), and the shades drawn. The room was great - I covet the room. More specifically the cozy bed all in white, the pocket doors, and the bathroom. Needless to say, I was all over the jacuzzi tub and the fuzzy robe. While it was too cold to brave the pool/hot tub, I did think about hitting the sauna. I think that the Porches Inn has paid a lot of attention to the little things that make hotel stays special. Like fresh baked cookies and warm cider to greet you, a cork screw and wine glasses in your room, and organics for breakfast. I also enjoyed all reading nooks, the warm fireplace, the rocking chairs and the board games. Before I start making too long of a list, I will say that the Proches Inn is on my short list for weekend get aways - especially if you never want to leave your room.

Yelp
Look out, Porches....you've buttered me up and now I'm lookin' to be your live-in friend. Our weekend stay was blissfully rejuvenating; our room felt like home (well, if Martha Stewart had payed a visit) and the staff felt like family. Natural "historical" hues and warm tones used throughout the property; decorative plates and other estate collectibles are perfectly arranged on the walls and in the wee nooks and crannies expected in Victorian homes. We arrived at 10:30pm to check in (NO problem! Personable and marvelously helpful staff is available 24-7!) Our room (Red23) was a delightful "Standard" room with king-size bed. Two little homemade mint chocolates were on our bureau along with information about eating local, skiing in the Berkshires, and visiting the Mass MoCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) which happens to be conveniently located just across the street! Gargantuan bathroom: slate tile floor, marble sink, claw-foot tub, huge shower head. This is the bathroom I want in MY home. Not that it's likely, but in case you do feel the need to snuggle up in front of the television, each room is equipped with a SmartTV (have a Netflix account? access it from the Porches!). DVDs can be singed out at the front desk. Sauna, pool, and hot tub are accessible 24-7 (midnight hot tub time with your special someone is even more awesome in the winter months). Just REMEMBER to keep your room key with you if you leave your shoes/robe in the sauna house (otherwise you won't be able to get back INto the sauna house for your cover-ups!). Breakfast: your typical continental, but with a little home-baked flair. Harvey & Sons teas, Berkshire Blend coffee, granola made on-site, freshly baked croissant and pain de chocolat, yogurts, cereal, bread and MASSIVE cheese block (the property probably goes through a block a day!). More of an eat-in type? -put the card on the outside of your room with the time and continental selection and they'll bring it to your room in a nifty "lunch box"! Or take your tea in one of the sitting rooms (you can keep their VERY well-mannered and personable kitty, Sabbine, company by the fireplace). Yes: the price tag is sizable ($180/night on weekend in the down season), but you'll be investing in the preservation of your sanity. Got me primed for our Mass MoCA visit (which was, of course, incroyable!) and renewed my faith in friendly people.

Yelp
Saw this written up on the blog Remodelista and had been yearning to see MASS MoCA, so planned an October weekend in the Berkshires. This place is the perfect complement to the museum, which is directly across the street: the modern-meets-rustic decor is perfect, and the vibe is youthful and welcoming. The room and bath were well-appointed and comfortable. Fresh-smelling and silky white sheets and duvets, lots of hooks in bathroom for hanging towels, etc. All-natural toiletries in the bath and mints on the pillow were nice. Water pressure in shower was great! Only downside was that our room on the front of the building made for a lot of street noise-- upside is that the town shuts down early and there is almost no traffic after 10pm. Continental breakfast was generous and tasty: beautiful breads, croissants, pain au chocolat, muffins, a large block of white cheddar with a cheese plane for self-service, organic yogurts, granola, boiled eggs, grapefruit halves, whole fruit, juices, coffee and tea. Dining room is small, but it is possible to get your breakfast on a tray and take it to the porch or your room if no table is available. Lounge rooms in reception area are stocked with daily papers-- Boston Globe, New York Times and locals. WiFi is available for free and works great all over the property.

Yelp
A couple of years ago, my girlfriend and I wanted to visit museums in the northern Berkshires and were unimpressed by the options we were finding for hotels. Until we found our first listing for the Porches. Our first trip out there involved three museums in a weekend and staying at this hotel. We just got back last night from our third annual trip to North Adams and the Porches, and this time we didn't even care about seeing any museums. The hotel itself is worth the drive. The service is very attentive, but only when you ask them for something. Otherwise, they are happy to stay in the background and let you do your own thing. The whole place is beautifully designed, and beautifully conceived. You can spend an entire trip marvelling at the creative mind that came up with the idea for this place. Best part? The Pool. Cut into the side of a hill, clean, beautiful views of nature and interesting architecture. I could just sit in that hot tub for an hour watching the sunlight slowly fade over the mountains. Other great features are big, tiled bathrooms in each room, and two great sitting rooms filled with books and games. Not to mention the front porch itself, with rocking chairs and a view of the museum. Problems: Sometimes the "antique" theme gets a bit much, like a chair in our room that's seen better days and didn't look all that comfortable. Also, for the first time this year I saw a cat lounging in one of the sitting rooms. I don't want to judge the atmosphere that a cat provides, but the combination of it and my allergies made me feel like I didn't want to go anywhere near that room. Which is a shame considering the otherwise laid-back "do whatever you want" attitude of the place. This might normally be a 4 1/2 star review, but it gets rounded up for atmosphere and the loyalty it intills in those who visit.

Yelp
The Porches is cool, in all senses of the word. Cool as in stylish - hip graphic design and room furnishings that take into account both Contemporary Art sensibilities & the rural setting. Cool, as in freezing cold, which is how the hallways and rooms are when you arrive in the evening in the winter. Cool, as in the reception you get when out of town guests pay a lot of money and the staff doesn't get paid enough. I would avoid the Porches and instead go to Jae's Inn -- way less hip, but a little cheaper and a lot friendlier. Update: free breakfast? delivered?! I guess the Porches doesn't take care of its business travelers.... :(

Bridget B.

Yelp
It was below freezing this weekend so I didn't avail myself to the 24 hour heated pool or jacuzzi, but you know, it's still cool they had them. The staff was very accommodating, as I have a lot of allergies and they set up a fridge in the room for me to keep my food in which was appreciated. When we decided to switch rooms, they moved the fridge for us. The place is pretty cool, as someone mentioned, in all senses of the word. Well not all, it was a little bit more country kitsch than I was expecting...being adjacent to something as cool and modern as the Mass MOCA just made me assume that the rooms would be ultra modern and hip. Instead they were a weird amalgamation of country and modern. The room was cold when we got there and took a while to heat up (it took a long time, and it didn't seem like the windows were super insulated). It's a neat place. I wouldn't plan a trip around staying here, but I would go back

Caesar R.

Yelp
Quaint, cozy and clean. Great location if you are visiting Mass MOCA. Perfect place to just relax. They have a pool, hot tub and sauna. Comfy rooms and really comfy beds to top it off. Definitely stay here if you are every in the Berkshires.

ThinkAnd D.

Yelp
Porches describes their rooms as 'industrial grandma,' and it's pretty apt: painted beadboard from floor-to-ceiling matches the exterior color of whichever house you're staying in. It's starkly disorienting at first, then dazzling yet cozy, kind of like a digital world conjured up by Mother Ann Lee. Some might consider this creepily uber-hip and only for polyglot visitors to Mass MOCA, but give it a couple of years and it'll be charmingly quaint. Breakfast can be left at your door, but it's much more fun to sit in the dining area and watch who's self-consciously eating the healthy crap or the buttery-good chocolate croissants. Yeah, heated outdoor pool, and I guiltily agree with Derick F on this point, but when we were walking to our room on a very cold moonlit night, a couple of little kids were yelling and having a great time in the water and we both wished we were them.
