Yelp
The Pork Shack, located in the Ferry Market food hall in New Hope, offers a variety of made-to-order pulled pork specialties including sandwiches and enchiladas, grilled cheese sandwiches, several mac & cheese options, and breakfast-all-day served in a very, very casual ambiance with all dishes served 'to go'. My dining companion and I both thought the food should have tasted better.
I'm a big fan of roast pork and broccoli rabe sandwiches, so I opted for the "Rabe" ($13.50), with slow-roasted pulled pork, sautéed broccoli rabe, and garlic aioli served on a flatbread. Unfortunately... my sandwich was practically inedible because the pork tasted VERY salty and the sautéed broccoli rabe had little flavor at all. I didn't finish the sandwich, even though I was pretty hungry. Thankfully, I had added a small order of plain tater tots ($4.75) which were actually pretty good. My dining companion opted to start with a cup of the gluten-free/dairy-free "Almost Famous Tomato Bisque" ($6.50 for a cup), but was put off by the strong taste of a spice that tasted like cumin (a big turnoff for her) and didn't finish the soup. She also ordered the Breakfast Grilled Cheese ($9.50), made with two fried eggs and melted American cheese on grilled toast, which she did enjoy.
I'll give the cooking staff the benefit of the doubt considering we stopped in for a late dinner about two and a half hours before closing and might've just gotten a disappointing batch of pulled pork and soup that had been made earlier and the flavors deteriorated as they sat all day, but.. probably won't try the Pork Shack again, given plenty of other options to try at the Ferry Market.
When the credit card receipt was emailed to me afterwards.. the 6% Pennsylvania sales tax on prepared foods was labelled only as "The Pork Shack", which initially made me think they had added additional service charge until I did my own research on Pennsylvania sales and use tax. It shouldn't require a CPA to figure that out.
Pro Tip #1: Download the ParkMobile app. You can pay via the ParkMobile app whether you park in the small private parking lot adjacent to the Ferry Market food hall, one of the nearby public lots (Union Square Lot @ 123 West Bridge Street), or metered on-street parking. Parking in one of the public lots or on the street in New Hope is $3.00/hour (up to a maximum of 3 hours) plus a $0.45 service charge for using the ParkMobile app.
