Google
Went looking for a decent whiskey bar while in Glasgow city centre for a couple of nights and found an excellent one. I know a decent amount about whiskey and have a collection of around 40 bottles, so I asked the staff to recommend me something. I told them I had no preference as long as they're smooth on the way down. The lady brought me 4 whiskies to choose from and explained them all. I couldn't decide which to try so I bought all 4, and I wasn't disappointed. All 4 were new to me and I was delighted with the recommendations. Great decor and feel. Great atmosphere. Hundreds of bottles to try. Knowledgeable staff who know their drams.

Google
With over 1000 bottles of whisky, you’ll definitely find a whisky to your liking. Bartender are super friendly in giving recommendations; just let them know your taste pallet profile. Love the decor and ambience. Ever for a weekday, there was a good crowd with both locals and tourist. For some light bar snacks, the pies are delicious and good prices. A true hidden gem for those visiting Glasgow.

Google
Exceptional place for both traditional homemade pies at a fabulous price and an exquisite array of whiskeys. There is also a variety of ales and drafts on tap. Old school beautiful comfy feel to the place. The staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about their whiskey and their place of work. A must if you have a passion of the whiskey kind.

Nathalie

Google
Nice bar stocked to the ceiling with whiskies. They have a cute mezzanine like second floor with seating. Good selection of beers and ciders as well. We enjoyed hanging out here.

Google
Best memory from Glasgow! Service is impeccable! The place is packed even on weeknights but makes for a good atmosphere. Really good casks ales and whatever whiskey you're looking for, they have it. I went two nights in a row and would have been there a 3rd if I would have stayed in Glasgow longer.

Google
Amazing selection as you can see. Coupled with a team that really knows their bottles and took the time to break it down and listen to what I was wanting to drink. They also checked my price point which given the selection was important. Overall very recommended and their food looked & smelled good but I was only there for the good stuff.

Ellen Thomas

Google
Fantastic proper pub, with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. 4 Real Ales on, unfortunately not Handpulls, they were instead assisted taps, but all Scottish beers and the two we had were delicious and great condition considering. Very aesthetically pleasing with over 1000 whiskeys available and on display. The pub did homemade pies as well that looked good and were great value for money, we intend to head back and try them out!

Pavel Lebedev

Google
Amazing place with fantastic collection of whiskey, nice and friendly team. Kudos for small affordable pies. First time saw such option in a pub. Usually pies are much bigger and expensive.

Yelp
Famous Glasgow pub featuring 700 different Scotch whiskies, many from locally owned distilleries. Told the bartender what we don't like and followed her recommendations and are not disappointed. Ambiance is noisy whisky pub. Love it!
google avatar

Alyson W.

Yelp
I loved our experience here! They have so many whiskeys and the servers are constantly up and down the ladders fetching different ones. As a novice whiskey drinker, I asked for some options in the flavor palate I liked. Although they were super busy, they took the time to have me taste three before pouring me a dram. I really appreciated that. When I went it was extremely busy, but cozy and lots of standing room. I highly recommend!

Yelp
We got recommendation from our driver and initial thought was doesn't everyone serve scotch whiskey in Scotland but this was place was a great mix of local vibe meets 800 different whiskey options and a great flight tasting option. A great option!
google avatar

Renata F.

Yelp
When in Glasgow, you must come here. This was recommended to us from a tour we did earlier that day and it was fantastic. The vibes were it! It was chill but still fun - my husband and I did a whiskey flight. They have a menu to choose from and besides that, the staff was soooo nice and helpful! We cannot wait to go back there when we visit. We went during the afternoon but at night it does get packed.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Awesome pub!!! This is my favorite pub in a Scotland! They have over 300 whisky's!!! It is a chill pub. The bartenders are very knowledgeable on all the scotch throughout Scotland! I recommend trying the scotch flights where you try scotch from every region, once you decide what you like, the bartender recommends other scotch that you may like from the same region. Amazing experience.
google avatar

Yelp
This was one of the highlights of Glasgow for me. Stopped in and tried several different whiskies. Had some amazing tastings and the prices were amazing. The type of whiskies we were trying would have been 3x the cost in the US. Ambiance was a cool feel. The bar tenders were very very knowledgeable and friendly. A must stop if you are a fellow whiskey enthusiast!
google avatar

Marcie L.

Yelp
Place had great vibes & a fully stocked bar. Very crowded. I ordered a beer on tap, which was garbage, but loved the place else-wise.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Great bar with an AMAZING selection of whiskey. Bartender was very helpful in advising me which flight to select, and the flight came with an explanation of all the whiskey.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
I am not a whiskey drinker, but this is a place that both ametures and whiskey experts will appreciate. First of all, they have beer on tap and a full bar, so even non-whisky drinkers can find happiness here. The owner/ tender Frank stunned me with his customer service. I told him I knew nothing about whisky but liked smoky whisky's. He brought out 5-6 whisky's and I could smell each one to see what I liked the best. Get in here... as they say in Scotland..!

Yelp
My husband and I only had one day to spend in Glasgow and it was unfortunately an extremely rainy one. We had some lofty goals to do a bunch of outdoor sightseeing, but we found ourselves in a rainy pickle. The Pot Still came up with a quick Google search for whisky bars and it really came through for us! Hello total authentic Scottish pub vibes! We snagged a seat in the upstairs loft area and my husband found out that they have several different types of whisky flights based off of the different regions. We decided to do a flight with Lowland & Speyside whiskies since I'm not a huge fan of heavy or peaty whiskies. The flight came with a guide explaining each pour, including its name, what the bottle looks like, and what notes you'll taste. I'm a whisky novice so I really enjoyed this laidback, self-guided experience. Best of all...6 of those really generous pours came out to be around £23 which is so affordable! They also have pies here - we really enjoyed the one we ordered which came with a side of peas. It was a nice accompaniment to a lot of whisky in the middle of the day.
google avatar

Andie G.

Yelp
If you're into whiskey this is the place! Many flights to choose from if you want to try a few different whiskeys. This was recommended to us by locals we met on the train and it did not disappoint! A huge selection of hundreds of whiskeys, the staff is helpful and friendly, as is the locals. Highly recommended!!
google avatar

Zoe L.

Yelp
This is such a wonderful gem in Glasgow! The locals and the travellers all know it. And it's a wonderful place to make new friends from all over the world because you will have to sit or stand next to people you don't know! And oh yeah, the whisky is a-ma-zing!
google avatar

Chad J.

Yelp
Excellent selection of whiskies from around the world. We were looking for a good spot to taste a few whiskies. We got two recommendations for this place and decided to give it a shot. Glad we did. They do have a full bar, but whiskies are their thing.

Joe T.

Yelp
Was determined to drink some scotch while in Scotland and this place was close to our hotel. Tried a few different scotches from different parts of Scotland with the assistance of the staff who are all very knowledgeable. Two thumbs up!

JF R.

Yelp
Little pub lots and lots of whiskey.. I went to this bar because of the steak pie reviews. After 5 pm they only have pies. I had a dry tasteless pie that was shop bought . The pie needed gravy and a lot of gravy. Another at the table had a acotch pie and said it was good but it didn't look great and again no gravy. Would I go back? No I would not.

Yelp
~*~*~ Pre-covid experience ~*~*~ Great place to explore whiskys (or as Americans call it, scotch ), especially if that's the reason you came to Scotland. The distilleries are cool and all.. but if you are hanging out in Glasgow for the arts and would like to try something different, this is the place to go. They boast over 700 bottles of whiskys here, and their shelves are stacked so high, the bartender has a sliding ladder to get to some of the bottles. There almost always is a weekly special; I sometimes get that just to try, but I've mostly asked the bartender to recommend something new to me based on a couple of my favourites. It's always nice to discover a new brand or vintage that has a similar but slightly different flavour profile. While I was in town, I couldn't resist coming here to hang out every night after dinner. It's definitely one of the most memorable bars I've been to.
google avatar

Rits M.

Yelp
They really know their stuff here. Have a huge selection in the shelves and are willing to extend themselves to give you recommendations and tell you where to buy whiskey, even telling you what part of Scotland and which distilleries to go to. They have a good amount of seating space, but there are so many people who come here that it's pretty packed most the time. Definitely highly recommend it, all these reviews can't be wrong!

Yelp
I don't declare to know much history of this fine olde Glasgow Pub, but I would feel safe saying, The Pot Still is classic landmark that should not go unseen and experienced. This is a Must Do while in Glasgow. We had just 2 free hours to shop, stroll the cobble avenues, and wind up at door step of The Pot Still. Five PM (1500 Glasgow), a nice mix of local gents & lass's, and tourists (us) all enjoying a pint and/or a Scotch Whiskey. I've been very pleased to see smoking has been taken outdoors in Scotland. The air was fresh and clear in the pub. Our Tender, offered taster samples of the drafts and Cider. The Mrs had a Magners Irish Cider & I a Golden Ale, called Pixel Bandit from Lawman Brewing Co. in Cumbernauld, Scotland. It was a shear pleasure stopping here, every so briefly and doing what the Scot's do so well, Relax and Chat.

Yelp
Amazing selection of 800 whiskeys to pursue through in this friendly pub! The atmosphere is warm and cozy just like you want in Scotland with little intimate tables or you can belly up to the bar. Bar tenders are friendly and more then willing to find the perfect dram for you on a rainy afternoon. Definite must stop on your wanderings in the area!

Yelp
Amazing little whiskey pub in in Glasgow. Scotch heaven for purists but easy for newbies like us to sample and try. As we were overwhelmed with the selection and depth of choices, the bartender guided us thru some options and narrowed down some selections for us to try. It was a really fun experience and we were glad to have this opportunity in the heart of where the best is made! Go try this place out if you are ever in Glasgow!

Yelp
Have you had one of those days where nothing is particularly wrong but nothing particularly goes right? It is like the world is just a half beat behind or I was a half beat ahead. I am not sure. It was one of those days. My friend and I had a day to spend in Glasgow and we wandered the city to find things to do. Glasgow is a lovely city but it seemed like we arrived just too early for lunch and then kept missing opportunities. I just felt off. Our tour guide recommended The Pot Still if we liked whisky and yes, yes I do so after a few missteps we went there. When we arrived there wasn't many people. A couple tables were occupied with a person a piece but that was it. My spirits were instantly risen when we approached the bar and decided to make a mini flight of whisky. The guys who helped us were fantastic! They were fun, made laugh, and very helpful. My friend likes Islays and the guys found it amusing when I told them that the more it tasted like dirt or a bonfire the more my friend would like it. Yet they found him two that met his requirements and he was pleased as punch. I love my Speyside whisky and they gave me a couple that were smooth and warming. I was thrilled. I loved the selection. I loved the people. And I thought the whole thing was delightful. This really made my day.

Yelp
The first Pub I hit after arriving in Glasgow. It was not a disappointed. Very authentic. The beer and the pies were fantastic. Great atmosphere. Great selection of Whisky....

Yelp
On a solo trip to Glasgow, I Stumbled into this pub to have a taste of Scottish Whiskey. As a young female traveling alone, I was a bit nervous, but didn't want to let that stand in the way. The bartender was absolutely incredible. I walked in with no prior knowledge to whiskey, let alone Scottish whiskey and walked out knowing a great deal. The pub was extremely busy as it was a Saturday night, but the bartender talked to me for about 10 minutes about the many different types of whiskey, even allowing me to smell a few to choose my drink. With how busy it was, I absolutely did not expect this amount of customer service. If you're in Glasgow looking for a taste of incredible Scottish whiskey or just a pint, pot still is an absolute must. I will absolutely be returning here!

Yelp
Described as an "old man" bar, Pot Still has over 250 bottles of whisky. The gold award is if you talk to the man with the awesome beard Frank. You can't miss him! and if questions is what you have, Frank has answers. Even if you don't want whisky, there's cask ales, beer, cider and hot beverages to warm you up for the Scottish winters. A must visit in Glasgow!

Yelp
First off, it's important to note that I'm not a drinker so I'm rating only on the food. Stopped in for a quick bite so I could say I tried a meat pie while in Glasgow. Got the pie with haggis, blood sausage, and some other meat I can't remember. Was just what you'd expect. Wedges were likewise solid. Peas were great with a hint of mint. Venue and staff were very nice.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday with a couple of Drams of a 21 y/o Single Malt at the Pot Still. Incredible selection of Whisky and Gin enjoyed in the mecca of whisky bars.

Yelp
If whisky is your thing, this is the place to come. I'm ashamed that it has taken me so long to get to it. It's a proper old-fashioned pub, none of your fancy gastro-pub nonsense; you're here to drink, and drink you shall. I was pleasantly surprised to see Heverlee ale on tap, however I decided against a beer as the place was absolutely heaving to the point where at least 10 people had to do a shimmy to let you get through to the bar (it was a Friday night), and I didn't fancy the prospect of having a pint of beer knocked over me. Whisky it was, and after a short time perusing the hugely extensive 'wall of whisky', I settled for a Scapa, an Orcadian malt that I had somehow managed to avoid on my recent trips to Orkney. Jolly nice it was too. Although we did eventually manage to shoehorn ourselves into a bench seat, we never managed to penetrate the interior more than a few steps from the front door, and as conversation was limited due to the general hullabaloo, we didn't stay as long as I would have liked. I'll definitely have to return when it's a bit quieter.

Yelp
How very remiss of me not to have written a review of the very marvellous whisky emporium The Pot Still. Better late than never. There's a very good reason why scotch-lovers from all over the world beat a path to the door of this city centre bar. It's in all the guide books and has just won Whisky Bar of the Year. They don't mess around with fancy food here. Yes you can get a pie from the pie warmer on the bar or some other simple snack, but the main event is whisky and my goodness they have a lot of the stuff. While the staff know pretty much all there is to know about whisky and are keen to share their enthusiasm, beer drinkers aren't in any way neglected. Friendly spot that seems quite popular with tipplers of all ages including solo travellers. What's not to love? Free wifi Malt of the month.

Yelp
Literally one of the best whisky bars I have been to. A friend recommended from when he was living in London and he said he would just come up here to drink at The Pot Still. They have whiskys that have not been in production for 30+ years so if you are a whisky hunter look no further. They have a whisky bible. If you have not had hundreds of whisky in your life, do not bother. You can just look up and see something in the region you may like or that you have not had, and they will tell you about it. If it does not fancy you, move on to the next. If you say you like Glengoyne 18 and Glenfiddich 15 they will recommend something that fits between that flavor profile that you are guaranteed to enjoy. God, I drank a lot here and I remember how I moved down the bottles the barman recommended. I enjoyed several special whiskies you generally do not see in regular bars ranging from £4- £30. Compared to bars in New York, this place was a steal. You can get a Macallan 12 in New York for pretty much £18 now so having a 25 year old Caol Ila for £30 is a bargain. I did not bother looking at the bill at the end of the night, I knew they would not take advantage. It is very easy to make friends here if you are traveling solo.

Yelp
Great bar In Glasgow with a very good selection of whisky. Friendly staff and good atmosphere but it does get busy! It's also really warm inside!

Yelp
So, -that- happened... Me: Hello, are you all serving dinner? Bartender: We don't serve food here. Me: Oh. [awkward pause] I get it - you just serve whisky. No worries, I'll have a dram while I'm here anyhow. Have anything peaty? Bartender: Sure, we have- Stranger who just showed up: You could have a Laphroaig. Me: ... [I'm thinking to myself I'd rather try something new...] Bartender: How about a Bowmore? Me: Sounds great, I've not had that one before, and it's an Islay. Bartender: That's great then. [pours a dram] That'll be £3.70 then. Me: [forks over cash] Later on... Man of the couple: I'll take a Guinness please. Lady of the couple: I'll have a bloody mary please. Bartender: Er... what's in a bloody mary? Man: This isn't that kind of place... Lady: Oh. Haha. I'll take a red wine then. While I don't feel wholly redeemed, I sure feel a lot better. Ah, shaudenfreude! No, The Pot Still doesn't serve food, but they serve booze. And lots of it. In fact, there's a whole wall full of single malts - some of which I've never even seen or heard of before! That's in addition to the half-dozen taps for beer, mini-fridge of wine, and another mini-fridge or two of bottled brews. Way low key on a Sunday early evening. This is kind of the place I wished was in my neighborhood in London. I'd be here every single night. And at the affordable prices per dram... I would be, too!

Yelp
Nice, unpretentious place. Get yourself a cold beer, a shot of whiskey...and a delicious, delicious pie. Go here!

Yelp
My wife and I were in Glasgow for a business trip and had finished up dinner across the street from this establishment. I originally just wanted to look at the place to see if it was worth checking out in the future. Then I read the story on the outside about the history of the place and saw something about over 300 malts. 300 malts?! I immediately looked at my wife with the same face a 7-year-old gives to his mother when he's found a puppy and wants to keep it. We needed to stop in for a dram. Or 5. We walked in and were greeted with a pub created exactly the way I'd expect a Scotland pub to be created. Small. Short bar area just off to the side of the door. Benches and tables along the walls both downstairs and upstairs. Oh, and the selection behind the bar - whiskies as far as the eye could see. Yes, I may have shed a tear. After finding a spot to settle in on a 75% full Thursday night I walked up to the bar to order my first whisky. I simply asked for a Highland that I couldn't get in the US. The bartender smiled a knowing smile, said, "Sure, not a problem", and she was off. She came back with a couple of bottles for me to check out and, once I made my selection, poured out my dram, my beer back, and my wife's Bailey's/rocks. (She hasn't quite started drinking whisky yet. Yet.) I settled back in at the corner with my wife to enjoy. For that moment all in the universe was just perfect. Between that night and two more visits I was able to sample many a single malt. Every time I had a conversation about what was going to be next the bartenders were able to select a few items, talk about each one highlighting different notes about them, and each time I was pointed at exactly what I was looking for. Never before have I seen people with that amazing of a level of knowledge about whisky. I was able to benefit in both gained knowledge and, of course, the chance to enjoy amazing whisky. If you're a whisky fan you owe it to yourself to visit Pot Still. If you've arrived from elsewhere, have the cabbie take you to your hotel just long enough to drop off your bags and then have them bring you here - this is where you want to be. You will thank me later. And for the record, 12 down, 288+ left to go.

Yelp
Ken may no longer be with us - but this place continues on as a whisky powerhouse with a lovely soft approach to the joy of Uisge Beatha. There are some very nice drams on sale here - ask and the folks behind the bar are sure to help. When you enter here - please take some time and admire the architecture not adorned by bottles. It really is a lovely pub. Finally., the best thing about this place are the patrons. I have had numerous conversations with Glasgow folks while sipping a nice dram. Maybe it is the whisky. Maybe it is Glasgow. All I know is that it is something you need to experience.

Yelp
Another must-visit for all the city's whisky aficionados and dram-quaffing tourists. The Pot Still is well renowned for possessing one of the largest ranges (over 600 I believe!), and they're all lined up on an impressive gantry above the bar. It's been a pub for donkey's years and looks/feels like it too - the interior is all white walls that have been repainted over multiple times, leather benches, low stools, dark wood and glass panelling. It's full of charm and because of that, full of punters - you'll have to keep your eyes peeled for a table and move in quickly. They've also a decent selection of mainly Scottish cask ales and rotate their selection of bottled beers. Pies, soup and toasted sarnies are on offer to help soak up the booze. Definitely somewhere to head to if you're in the city centre and in need of some respite.

Yelp
Maybe your 2015 resolution was to "get healthy" and you're currently in the throes of a juice cleanse? Hope that's going well for you. My 2015 resolution was to learn to drink whisky - and, as it was with beer, I suspect it's going to take me a while. So some awesome friends and I visited the Pot Still so they could start my whisky education on Friday night. I'm so ashamed to admit this was my first visit. Yes, the Pot Still won best Yelp nightlife venue in 2014 but it took me until this week to finally get in there. As I burst through those doors I immediately realised the error of my ways - this is just the kind of city centre pub I've been searching for. A bit of an old man boozer but in a classy way, and with a wall of whisky to please most tastebuds. It's got a proper cosy feel as well as very welcoming, no matter how much of a whisky noob you are. My friends showed me this handy flavour chart of whisky so you can pick one to suit your tastes - light, delicate, smoky. I went for the Jura 10 year old as it was nicely tucked in between light and delicate (just how I'd describe myself). The bar staff were lovely and quickly served me up a dram (look at me, I know the lingo). I also grabbed a diet coke and a glass of water and all up the bill was around £5 - bargain! I believe their serves are larger than the standard (35ml) and I won't lie - my first whisky drinking effort really didn't go that well as I could only manage half of it. That being said, I did enjoy the atmosphere of the place while trying! I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later to continue my whisky-drinking efforts. Cheers to the Pot Still!

Yelp
Excellent selection of scotch whisky. I was served by Callum, who was very knowledgeable and helpful. I told him I wanted to try something new and named a few I liked. He chose four options, described each to me and let me smell them. The first choice isn't my favorite, but is pretty good. It was accurately described in terms of flavor. There is a small food menu- mostly pies, but also a sandwich and a soup. I didn't have a chance to sample any since I just ate, but all the food is four pounds or under. A good way to balance out the wall of whisky so you make it home in one piece at the end of the night.
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
This place was legendary. They pretty much had every single whisky ever created. The bartenders were very knowledgeable about the drinks. I won £1 from the gambling machine.

Tavisha G.

Yelp
The holy grail of whisky houses! Practically a religious experience! With over 500 choices, it's a great place to try a new single malt before splurging for a whole bottle. I tried a 15 year Cardhu and my better half had a 15 year Benromach. Both were excellent recommendations. The atmosphere is classic pub and the prices are excellent. They also serve a variety of homemade pies for between £2.50 and £3.50 which includes peas or beans. Toasties are £3 and paninis are £4.50. I would highly recommend this treasure of all the best whisky Scotland has to offer.
google avatar

Tracy W.

Yelp
If you're looking to experience Scottish whisky, this is the place to do it. With an incredible selection on offer, the friendly and knowledgeable bar staff will guide you to your perfect dram. They occasionally offer tasting events which are a great way to try a few things out with a guide to what you're drinking, and they'll even put together a custom tasting event for you if you let them know what you're after. As others have mentioned, the pub itself is pretty much your basic old-man pub, with fairly limited seating; the atmosphere adds to the charm and the authenticity of the experience!

Yelp
Hey, you want to go to the place where everyone recommends for scotch whisky (not whiskey)? Then yeah, get to the pot still. My girlfriend and i came in one night during a trip to Glasgow, and the place was packed but still eager to serve. The bartenders will definitely entertain requests for recommendations, but it also feels great to get a glass of whatever you want when there are HUNDREDS of choices. Good energy, helpful staff, great seating area upstairs, this should definitely be on every traveler's list to give custom whilst visiting or passing through glasgow.
google avatar

Yelp
The Pot Still is always a busy wee bar and is a must visit stop for tourists and locals alike. A great atmosphere and true Glaswegian hospitality at it's best. I've never seen so much whisky in one place! Literally a wall of whisky awaits you behind the bar and staff are very knowledgeable and will happily talk you through the awesome selection they have. My check in here summed it up so well: "Buying a Whisky here is a bit like choosing a wand at Olivanders - the knowledgeable staff will always help you find the one just right for you" Go check it our, you won't be disappointed!

Danette W.

Yelp
I don't know how we ended up here when we were in Glasgow but I sure as hell am glad we did! The only whiskey I used to drink was JD but I'm way more open to trying more now. This place has over 700 whiskies! Amazing! The first time we were there the owner was in and my husband and his friend enjoyed the conversation they had with him. They said he was obviously very passionate and knowledgable about whiskey. We were lucky enough to partake in two different monthly whiskies - we first went the last day of June and went again the next day. I tried the July one (called Smokehead) and loved it. Purposefully embarrassed my husband and his friend by insisting on a Jack and Coke - thank you to the establishment for not throwing us out after that, hahaha! To the owner: if we ever go to Scotland again I'm sure my husband would love to be able to have a chat with you!

Yelp
When in Scotland one must drink scotch! And as we are scotch lovers we were very happy to get to try some hard to get whiskey. I did a little research and learned that this is one of the best whiskey bars in town so after our dinner at the Butterfly and the Pig we walked over here. The bar is a classic pub and definitely more of a local hangout than it is a tourist destination. We made our way to the bar, befriended one of the bar maids and got ourselves a little scotch tasting. I'm not much a fan of peaty scotches but everything else we tried were tremendous. In particular we were absolutely in love with a limited edition bottle of Glendronach and ended up finishing what they had left. Yes, it was a great time and I'd definitely come back if I were ever in Glasgow again.

Yelp
Great time with great people! So glad we didn't miss this pub! Such a great place to meet people and make new friends! And I don't even drink whisky!

Yelp
Although The Pot Still is a great whiskey bar, its real charm is the atmosphere. Somehow balancing the atmosphere of a locals' bar with a friendly and relaxed environment, it is close to the hub of the city centre, without being painfully busy, loud or aggressive. With its two levels, it is great for both an intimate drink or something more social, and attracts a mature crowd. This probably accounts for the relative quiet, and respectful friendliness.

Yelp
A must for the whisky lover. Four real ales on & they could do with having the selection visible on a chalk board (of which there are quite a few) as there was no way you could see what those available last Saturday night were due to the crowd at the bar. Proudly displays its 2014 Yelpie award, a thing I'd never before seen.

Yelp
You'd have to be insane to come through Glasgow and not stop at the Pot Still. It's the holy grail of bars for oh so many reasons. And I say "so many" because truly - a good bar is not just about the spirits selection or the atmosphere - though here you'll find that both are awesome. What the Pot Still has that no other bar in the world has is Frank. Frank is perhaps the most knowledgeable person I have ever encountered when it comes to scotch. And I say this as someone who works in the spirits industry, someone who's married so a professional spirits taster, and someone who in general really loves and appreciates a good dram. I literally came to Scotland on my honeymooon - that's how much I like Scotch! So yeah, Frank fucking rules. The bar is always packed and that's part of the charm. You'll find tourists like myself, you'll find old regulars, and everyone in between. I saw men in suits, people in t-shirts, you name it, I saw it. This is the everyman's bar and it's great. If you manage to get a spot at the bar or to wiggle your way between some folks, the staff (not just Frank) are super prepared to help you find exactly what you're looking for. We did get lucky enough to chat with Frank for quite a bit and not only did he find us some bottles we'd not been able to try back in the states, he knew tons of info about various bottlings and was a treasure trove of knowledge. When we mentioned we were off to Edinburgh the following morning he left and came back with a note that had no fewer than 12 pubs/bars and whisky shops to check out. And they were incredible suggestions, too! We did hit up his recommendations and they were outstanding; not the tourist traps we'd wanted to avoid. Anyway, you're seriously missing out if you don't pop through to give this pub a shot. Frank and his team are amazing and we're so glad we took up the recommendation to find this bar during our one night in town.

Yelp
They have a ridiculous whisky collection and a thick binder of their selection. Prices were very reasonable, and more importantly, they have stuff you can't find in the US. They usually have a malt of the month for £2.50. This month was Highland Park 12, which is standard in the US, but it was just a ridiculously good price. Others we tried: - Bubbahabhain toiteach: £7.95/dram - Longrow 18: basically a peated Springbank at £8-9 a dram (a bottle runs you at least $180 in the US) - Talisker 18: £12.30 a dram Service is super friendly, and they're impressively knowledgeable. I can only hope to know 10% of what the girl who helped us knew. We came on a Monday night around 8pm, and it was full but not overly crowded, so we could spend more time perusing the impressive menu. It seems like their collection is always evolving. The crowd is pretty relaxed here. They have some food, and wifi is free! It's a family owned and run place, which is great, and everyone is clearly passionate about whisky. This is definitely the best combination of whisky selection, prices, and knowledge I've seen.
