A Month on the Road With My Newborn

"One of our haunts became the Potting Shed, a low-slung warren of a pub with exposed beams and battered furniture. It’s five minutes on foot from The Rectory, under the same ownership, and it has a similar off-handed charisma—though the venison chop is good, it’s the card-playing, dog-patting locals who make the place memorable."

I had a wonderful Sunday roast pork belly. I wouldn’t normally choose pork but it was recommended to me. So glad I did! Delicious and so much of it! All the veg and Yorkshire pud were so yummy. I took home what I couldn’t manage. Staff were so helpful and kind. Thank you

During our 3 day stay, we ate here twice. The food is really good and the service is excellent. If you're staying at The Rectory Hotel, it's only a few minutes walk away so perfect for guests.

Outstanding pub meals, pork steak special was a highlight, the burgers were great and i loved my linguine with chilli and crab cacio e pepe, huge portions. Lovely cheerful service in a super location. The wine profit mark up for a glass only (£12!)was the only sour note in an otherwise great meal.

As I get to older and morph into a grumpy old man I like to leave grumpy reviews, sadly I cannot since The Potting Shed is fantastic !! I nearly said 'its awesome' and the outside beer garden was terrific to sit in the shade with a cider in the sunshine. it even refused to rain on us, we snuck back inside and enjoyed an incredible lunch. Order the black pudding scotch egg and thank me later 😄

My picture doesn’t do justice, this was the very best Sunday roast I’ve ever had. Everything was so perfect, especially the side cheesy cauliflower! Great food, great atmosphere, great service. 5/5 pub!

An increíble and cozy place. The food was amazing. We had the "Cecina de leon", The twice-baked Double Gloucester soufflé, some tendersteam broccoli with chili, but the star of the night was the Pan fried chicken, creamy mash, seasonal greens, madeira sauce... for dessert lemon, salted caramel, and straberry with mint ice cream and sorbet. With a double Laphroaig whisky. Top of this trip to UK so far. If you happen to be around this part of the world... you should make a stop for sure.

Fantastic experience here - both food and service! We arrived having not booked a table but were quickly squeezed in (would recommend booking). The food was delicious, we had the goats cheese salad to start, fish and chips (very fresh fish) and a special. We were celebrating as part of our honeymoon so ordered a glass of fizz each, the bar man noticed this and asked us if we were celebrating something. When we then ordered dessert (very tasty brownie) they had written a congratulatory message and popped candles in, which really made us feel special. Excellent and attentive service throughout. Great atmosphere at the pub, pretty busy for a Tuesday evening which is always reassuring! Many thanks for such a lovely evening!

Yelp
Having visited over a year ago, we had another wonderful meal here last month. Our server was amazing. She was very busy and still kept up with everything. The sourdough was really nice and honestly we loved everything we ordered. Our server recommended the scotch egg and it was our favourite thing! Definitely ordering that again next time. She also saved a piece of the special dessert knowing we had a birthday on the table, which was just another example of how great the customer service was. I wish I could remember her name (sorry!) Highly recommend and will be back.

Yelp
Nice village ambience. Had roasted garlic and fresh baked bread with olive oil balsamic and sea salt. Garlic roasted to perfection. Pie of the day was ham hock. Thin tasty pastry and delicious filling. Side of mash and steamed cabbage. 2 pies 1 garlic bread and 2 drinks £50 so not cheap and perhaps better value avail at other local pubs.

Yelp
Sat on the main road through Crudwell this English country pub delivers a far higher standard than expected. We three visited on the recommendation of a colleague who said it was good but we were still impressed. We had the belly pork starter, 28 day steak, saddle of lamb & the burger; with the cheese board shared between us. This with 8 pints of Butcombe beer and a coffee, all for £110 which we thought good value. This place gets a rare 4 stars from me-well worth the drive out. X = You've gotta be kidding me XX = trying but not reaching the standard expected or advertised XXX = achieving the standards expected/advertised however high that might be XXXX = they're doing something special here, above expected standards of service XXXXX = WOW! you gotta go here!

Yelp
This could not be a more charming country pub. I only had a drink here with my fiancée and dog but the staff was helpful and friendly, and the interior was absolutely delightful. It was full of old rustic tables and pictures; you could spend a lot of time just looking around. I will update this when we eat here but I am looking for to trying the food! Update: I finally ate here and in fact, I have eaten here three times in the last 3 days. Not only because it's great but also because it's across the street from the Rectory Hotel, where I was just married. Good times! Of course, my feelings for this place are coloured by that experience but I think it's fair to say The Potting Shed is straight awesome. The food is much more elevated than you would expect at a pub (the Tandoori monkfish in particular was interesting and fantastic). They also have one of the best tasting burgers I have ever had. You just can't believe how good the meat tastes. As a bonus, they have a charming shed out back, with stacks of hay for chairs, and a big ol' TV on the wall where we watched Wimbledon and the Euros final. Really cool place!

Yelp
I should caveat this with the fact I've only had a drink here - not food - but I plan to sample their lunch in the future. The pub is very cute with lots of country paintings and wheelbarrows everywhere. Our labrador was allowed in after a muddy walk which was great and they were very friendly to her, giving her biscuits and stroking her etc. I definitely look forward to returning and eating here.

Yelp
We came here for dinner with friends midweek and it was almost full. The menu is pretty special with game a specialty and some unusual dishes for good measure. Between us we polished off cheese brûlée and game pate and for mains we had the steak, hare & pheasant burger, guinea fowl and polenta mushroom stack. Check out the photo of the menu for details. The food was amazing and the place is really charming and has a vibrant atmosphere. Definitely worth making the trip out to hhis destination eaterie.

Yelp
We returned to our childhood village after 30 years and paid a visit to our old pub. It is only a personal opinion but I found the food overpresented and unneccesarily fussy with not enough attention given to substance. Good food is hard to find in the UK; tradtional English food even more so. If we give a damn about preserving our own culture, the pub has an important role to play in rediscovering, mastering and honoring classic English food. We had the underwhelming ham hock and our kids had vegetarian suasage and chips. For dessert we had brownies and a cheese board. If I am not mistaken, judging by the shape, texture and taste of the 'brie' it originated from a tin.

Yelp
Visited here on a recommendation from a work colleague. Arrived with no expectation but left having had one of the best meals I have had recently. Superb food atmosphere and great food / drink. Must visit
