"The Pottinger, a 68-room boutique hotel tucked into the Central neighborhood, aims to infuse a bit of modernity into a storied part of town. Guest rooms are on the smaller side (you are in a densely packed metropolis, after all) but the tasteful, Chinoiserie touches makes you feel like you’re in a private residence. Don’t miss the gallery walls of black-and-white photographs by filmmaker Fan Ho, whose imagery tells a deeply personal story of the history of Hong Kong and Central. "

The Pottinger

"How did it strike you on arrival? We had trouble finding the entrance to The Pottinger at first (it’s actually located on Stanley Street), but were pleasantly surprised when we walked into the beautifully designed lobby. Soaring ceilings, tiled floors, high-backed chairs, and dramatic silk screens all channel the hotel’s historic setting—on the granite-slab Pottinger Street (a Grade I historic site) in Central. Nice. What’s the crowd like? The Pottinger's 68 rooms welcome well-groomed professionals and couples, as well as local residents who come for staycations and the excellent on-site restaurants and bars. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Reinforcing the heritage concept, the rooms have Chinoiserie-chic touches like pale pink silkscreen headboards, poppy-colored red accents, and creamy leather furniture. While we loved the design, our 250-square-foot classic room looked right into another building. We’d recommend asking for a higher floor level, or upgrading to a premier room category. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?A comfy king-size bed came with crisp 300-count linens and fluffy goose-down pillows. We’d look forward to sleeping here again. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? The Pottinger pours on the perks, including a Nespresso machine in every room, powerful hair dryers, and complimentary local snacks (almond cookies and crispy chips among them). Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The classic and deluxe rooms don’t include bathtubs, but the spacious marble shower and Elemis amenities were fair consolation. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? The Wi-Fi’s free, and you’ll also get to borrow a Handy phone (loaded up with data) while you explore the city. Room service: Worth it?There are two room service menus available: a late-night snack menu (mostly Chinese and western comfort foods), as well as an all-day Italian menu from Gradini Ristorante E Bar Italiano. If you’re torn about what to order, we’d suggest signatures such as the Tuscan sausage rigatoni, roasted lamb rack, and tiramisu. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. There is no spa, gym, or convenient parking but boy do we love the restaurants and bars here. Serving classic Italian in a romantic environment, Gradini Ristorante E Bar Italiano is perfect for a date night (plus fantastic breakfast), while two-Michelin-starred Ta Vie takes diners on a French-Japanese gastronomic journey. For drinking, we’d recommend booking a high-tea menu with cocktail pairings on the terrace of The Envoy, where you’ll be surrounded by tropical plants and trendy Hongkongers. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the notable photography by revered Hongkonger Fan Ho. In the hallways and on the walls of some rooms, the black-and-white images (most of which are originals) tell the story of Hong Kong through the 1950s and 60s. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?We loved the airy and feminine design of The Pottinger, but we were let down by the views from the lower-level rooms. And again, there's no gym or spa. Bottom line: worth it, and why? It’s tough to find a better location than The Pottinger, which honors its namesake heritage street with tasteful contemporary Chinese decor, museum-worthy photography, and destination restaurants and bars." - Kate Springer

The Pottinger Hong Kong (Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Seated along the street with which it shares a name, Hong Kong’s Pottinger stands as an amalgam of both Central’s rich history and its dazzling present as hub of international commerce and travel. A sense of the past permeates the block, with modern towers huddled aside centuries-old centers of colonial administration and marketplaces, whose 20th-century scenes are captured in stunning photographs hanging on the Pottinger’s walls — the work of Shaw Brothers director and self-styled flȃneur Fan Ho. 21st-century luxury, though, is the main exhibit at the Pottinger, where elegant rooms with full-length views immerse guests in the dynamic Central skyline. The Pottinger’s own Gradini is renowned for Italian cuisine imagined from an Eastern point of view, and Ta Vie focuses on high-end East Asian fare." - Tablet Hotels

Even we paid the full payment directly in hotel in advanced, but when our client check-in the hotel, their service team mentioned that they cannot find corresponding booking and payment record, it's quite disappointed on such arrangement. Of coz finally they could find back the payment result and able to check-in successfully. But the impression is quite back and we need to keep waiting for a long for their checking ....

The Pottinger Hotel is a little slice of heaven! Located in a bustling part of Hong Kong, entering the lobby through heavy doors, it is a welcome oasis of elegance and understated beauty. The rooms are well appointed with the lush furnishings and carefully considered decorations. The bathrooms with both the bath and rain shower are a slice of heaven. Well worth a visit and stay!

From the moment I arrived, the reception team made me feel so welcome—especially Nicole and Jessie. They were incredibly friendly and attentive, almost as if they already knew what I needed before I asked. Their genuine care made my stay truly special. Highly recommend this hotel if you value thoughtful service and a restful stay. We will definitely come back.

The location of the hotel is so convenient. Located just 1 block away from the subway made transiting HK easy, the area is also filled with lots of shopping and restaurants. Rooms were clean, tastefully decorated, furnished well and included turn down service. I absolutely loved this hotel and will be using it when I transit thu HK from now on.

Really excellent smallish hotel. Hasn't got the amenities of a gym etc but it does have really good sized good quality rooms at a decent price in an excellent location and with excellent staff.

Rooms are clean and big ( for HK). Staff is friendly with good English. The place is quiet even though it is well located for nightlife and going out around midlevels. close to Central Metro station (5min walk) it should be noted that the hills around this place of Hong Kong are quite steep.

The hotel had a ludicrous policy that if your Privacy sign is on the door after midday they will phone you to wake you up to ask if you want housekeeping. So don’t expect to have a good sleep after midday if you’re jet lagged. ||I reported this on the first day and was told it was hotel policy to check that you’re OK. I assured them that I was jet lagged, not dead, and could they not phone me at midday if I was sleeping. They said that they would put a note on their computer but exactly the same thing happened the next day. ||I can understand hotels being concerned if you’re missing for days on end but I have never before stayed in a hotel that assumes you might be dead if you sleep after midday.||It is beyond parody that they will phone you to take you up because they can’t knock the door because the privacy sign is on.

I love this hotel. I've stayed here many times and have always been very satisfied with the stay. The location is excellent - 10 out of 10. The price is very reasonable relative to the location, room quality and service level. It doesn't have a gym or many options for entertainment at the venue, but there are a ton of dining and entertainment options near the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to any visitor from out of town looking for a great deal on a clean, well designed centrally located hotel.

Yelp
Stay here last week for 5 nights and i must admit, this is the most memorable stays of all hotels I've stayed at in Hong Kong, and I've stayed at several dozen in my lifetime. Check in was a breeze and the front desk reception was super kind and helpful. I appreciate that the staff is not judgy, as can be with most establishments in HK, and were quite respectful and kind. The room was immaculate and a considerable size for HK standards, location was prime, in close proximity to the MTR and all the best rated restaurants and nightlife. Will surely be my new go to place when traveling to HK.

Yelp
Really great place. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are not small and well equipt. In the hotel there are a few restaraunts. Look for separate reviews on the ones we tried. The Hotel is located in the mid/central area. Walking distance to hundreds of dinning, shopping and drinking options. As well as the escalators, ferry terminals and the MTR. Upon arrival at 11 PM we were greeted and ushered to our room right away. No long waits after a loong flight. Our 3 year old son was given a couple really nice little gifts right off by the gentleman at the front desk. They provided us with free breakfast which included eggs, meats, breads, fruits, yogurts and more. Over all an excellent experience here.

Yelp
A small luxury hotel located in the heart of Central Hong Kong The Pottinger is the nicest hotel I've seen. It has a French inspired design. The entrance of the hotel is Stanley Street. It is one block away from Lan Kwai Fong, the party place of HK. Lots of high end brands nearby. Room is clean and pretty spacious for Hong Kong standards. Staff are courteous and very helpful with all your needs. A highly recommended hotel.

Yelp
For the price and location, it may be impossible to best The Pottinger. I ended up here after checking in and then out of The Butterfly a block away and for the extra $100/nite, I was very happy with the huge jump in quality. Style is French, very clean and has two great bars.

Yelp
Super-convenient location in the heart of Central. I love the place, and the restaurant inside the hotel is neat too. It has a nice vibe. Decor is reminiscent of the colonial past of Hong Kong. A lot of things in Central and Sheung Wan are within walking distance, and public transport (MTR) is nearby in Landmark. I'll definitely visit again next time I'm in town.
