Went on a Friday evening for dinner. Indoor seating was full but plenty of seating outdoors in a beautiful evening. Service was excellent and food was all fresh and tasty. Loved the appetizers and variety. Dessert was a bonus. Donuts had small slices of apple. Huge serving so definitely meant to be shared. We rolled out happy and full. 😋

Great meal. Doughnuts went so fast I didn’t get to try it. Steak taco, Caesar salad with shrimp, cod sandwich and kids pizza. All delicious and reasonably priced

From start to finish, the level of service was excellent. We were greeted kindly and pomptly, attended to right away. The entire staff was polite and professional. The appetizer and entree's were delicious. In addition, we had a great conversation with the manager after the meal! Highly recommend!

My husband and I are from Concord New Hampshire, drove over an hour to go to the point as we had not been there in a few years and remembered how good it was. The food was absolutely horrible. As a chef by trade I couldn’t possibly believe the calamari they sent to our table. The calamari Was so small that all it looked like was a bunch of tiny little circles, breaded, and almost burnt on our plate. You could’ve been eating anything, you didn’t even know it was calamari that’s how small it was then my husband ordered a burger., was not cooked med well. It was well done! Now let’s talk about the french fries. I can’t imagine how french fries could look worse. Now we have all seen 8 million kinds of french fries served in restaurants. These were the ones with the skin on obviously they were cold and so burnt I couldn’t believe it. However, the two drinks we got were very good and the service was good. Such a shame I would never go back there and was going to call there this morning and Speak to someone, but decided to leave a review instead. I don’t know what happened to this restaurant over the last few years but,,,,, I won’t be driving back

Excellent service, Excellent food and drinks! We were not disappointed! It was a short walk from our hotel, and there was no wait.

Google
Lovely place for a date night! We enjoyed the patio seating, generous wine pours and oh so delicious food. My favorite was the dumplings appetizer, and the scallop with risotto entree was pretty great too. My husband enjoyed his lobster pasta. The service was prompt but didn't check in on us too much, which was much appreciated. The chocolate torte for dessert was the bomb!

First time visiting this restaurant and will definitely return. Went on a summer Sunday morning at 11:30, no line, ordered bloody Mary’s at the bar while we waited for friends. The bloodies came with a large pimento olive, a lemon wedge and celery stick. Sat outside on the porch in the shade. Ordered their cider donut starter which is a donut lovers dream. 6 donuts the size of meatballs served with whipped cream and a glaze. Omg. Service was efficient. All 3 meals were excellent.

Google
We visited the Poynt on a very cold Saturday night in February. Street parking out front and a couple parking lots on either side. Large comfortable bar set up with televisons and a nice selection of beer on tap and mixed drinks. Restaurant has a couple of main dining areas, bar booths against the windows street and a room that can seat larger groups of 14 or so looking for some privacy. Great food selection, with sushi and pizza, which we had for apps. Waitress was very nice, and overall, we had a great evening in Newburyport at the Poynt!

Yelp
I visited on a Saturday around 1pm with a party of 4. We were seated quickly without reservation. Overall the food was decent. The clam chowder was just okay. The poke stack was good -- it was a bit flavorless when eaten by itself but when you actually ate it with the salted chips it was much better. My friend ordered the steak frites and that was really good!!

Yelp
The Good: the scallops were cooked perfectly and the kung po rolls were a fun surprise! The Not So Good: the "sushi" rolls were cut a little thick so made it harder to eat and chew as a single bite The Ugly: The scallop entree over risotto needed more color. Was a very visually monocolored dish.

Yelp
Such kind staff and a great selection of food. Lots of seating and parking nearby. Amazing desserts.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dining experience here. Great ambiance. Fashionable people. First class service. The menu has a lot to offer for everyone. We had sushi and pizza. They have large entrees as well. The sushi was great. Also had dumplings. Caesar salad was huge and tasty. Pizzas were great. Thin and crispy. A solid restaurant.

Yelp
First off, the aesthetic of the restaurant is clean, modern, and perfect for brunch. It's nestled in the cutest beach town, and they have so many great options along with drinks at reasonable prices. When they served us the food, I was shocked at how big the portions are. The flavors were delightful and balanced. I will be back

Yelp
Wonderful dinner here last week! The hostesses were so friendly! We loved the calamari with a really interesting slaw and peanut dressing. We also shared the steak tips and scallops. The scallops were perfectly seared, the tips were juicy and we loved the marinade. The atmosphere was lovely and friendly. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
First time at the Poynt, it was a fallback since we couldn't get into our first dinner choice and our friend said The Poynt was "decent." I would concur with that. There were four of us - we started with martinis that were poorly made, including cosmos where we asked for little triple sec and juice, and all we really tasted was triple sec, so way too sweet and light on vodka. We didn't send them back mostly cause we felt we'd given too many instructions to our waitress and didn't want to bother, so we left them unfinished and switched to wine. Apps were good, we shared a shaved beef bruschetta of sorts that was very good. Three of us had chicken piccata that wasn't bad, but was really a pasta dish with chicken versus a chicken dish with pasta - waaay too little chicken but the pasta was great. Ended with espresso martinis that were better than the cosmos. Our waitress was very efficient (Kim?) if not overly friendly - a couple of us noted that we didn't think she liked us stemming from the outset when we ordered cosmos with specific instructions.(!) Again, service was fine but and attentive but where the hostess was super friendly, the waitress not so much... I'd go back maybe, but wouldn't be a first choice, there are better options in Newburyport.

Yelp
The food and drinks were so tasty. The ambiance is upscale and in such a cute location. The service was great. The calamari was good, checked the boxes for calamari, but the cauliflower slaw was an unexpected pleasant surprise. The butternut squash pizza was thin crusted and loaded with goodies. Definitely a good autumn treat with the sweet roasted squash and brussels sprouts drizzled with balsamic glaze. The cocktail was a 'strawberry vodka prosecco float' and was light and pink. My nut allergy was accommodated so well I have to shout out our server who brought me a complementary cake slice because the table had got desserts that were not guaranteed nut free. So so delicious too!

Carol K.

Yelp
I cannot recommend The Poynt based on the food that our group of nine were served on August 10. One of us ordered the chicken piccata, which he said was like a partialy thawed sliced chicken loaf with a can of condensed soup slopped over it, and four (4) capers. I did a double take when the "Caesar Salad" was served, it looked like a plate of mac and cheese. Yellow lettuce chopped small, drowning in a thick yellow sauce. The sword fish special was on the small side, but fresh. The kale salad that came with it was supposed to have blood oranges, but they appeared and tasted like grapefruit. Fine--say grapefruit on the menu. The La Jolla Tacos that a very hungry member of our group ordered were so flavorless and overwhelmed by creamy sauce, that she couldn't eat after the first taste. One of our group ordered a pizza, which he said was terrible, and didn't finish. Very disappointing.

Yelp
The Poynt was probably my favorite spot I visited in Newburyport! Our party of 3 stopped by on a Wednesday evening and we were able to get seated right away at an indoor table. First off, the decor here is elegant and modern. I loved the grey wood, the beautiful wine displays, and creative lighting fixtures. Our server was very young but attentive and sweet. The cocktail menu was so exciting, we had the hardest time figuring out what to order. I ended up going with the Tahitian Mojito, which was fantastic - light and refreshing, but still flavorful. My friend chose the Waitin' On A Friend, which our server mentioned is a popular choice. It was a little bit heavier, but tasty and well balanced. We also decided to get a few small plates to share - the Chicken & Cheese Taquitos and the Avocado & Tuna Roll. Both were delicious and perfect for splitting over drinks. The ambiance was pleasant and we had a great time - would return!

Yelp
Some friends and I came to the Poynt for an early birthday dinner and it was incredible. The restaurant was recommended by a family friend and the experienced delivered! Firstly, we all felt I had to include a shout out to our waitress Alana- you go girl. She made our experience so comfortable and enjoyable. We didn't mention it was my birthday until we were paying and she felt so bad she didn't know earlier. Alana ended up packing up a chocolate cake slice to go. Even though it was to go she made it special throwing in a side of chocolate sauce, whip cream, utensils for all, a candle, AND wrote happy birthday on the bag. She was just too sweet. If you can ask for Alana, ask for her! I didn't get pictures of all the food but we got lots of small dishes and a pizza to share. We got the fried shrimp roll off the specials, kung pao roll, lobster tower roll, fried calamari, crispy teriyaki beef dumplings, and the fig & bacon pizza. Everything was INCREDIBLE. We didn't have any negative comments about anything. My overall favs were the fried shrimp roll & pizza. So yum. Our drinks were also fantastic! So flavorful and visually appealing. We got the tequila mockingbird, shape shifter, honey b' wildin', and tricky Ricky. We sat outside which was a nice private kind of area and it was a great day for it. Next time I'd love to sit indoors and experience the vibes there. My friends and I all think this was a great place. Awesome food, good price, great experience. Heard they have a fanatic brunch- that's the next visit!

Yelp
We go to the Poynt every Summer we visit the area, and this last time a week ago exceeded our expectations. The main reason is the service, in this case, our amazing server Kim. She went above and beyond with giving us a great table, taking our picture, ensuring we were all happy with our food, and taking stellar care of us...all while training another server (who was also great)! It was the best dinner of our trip and a special once-in-every-5-years experience for our family. The food was incredible too, as usual, and surprisingly reasonable (well, at least compared to the high prices we're used to in California). Thank you Kim and thank you Poynt - see you next year!

Yelp
(Albeit we have only been 2x and have only had Sunday brunch) So this place *should* get 5 stars. The ambiance is great, nice big bar area, love that you can see into the kitchen. The waitresses have all been nice and friendly. And the food, itself, is tasty and has lots of interesting options (breakfast pizza? chicken fried steak? Yes please). We had very tasty mimosas and the fact that they give you a whole canister of coffee for your table is amazing. But the food itself...is cold. Both times we went, we noticed that the food is left out on the counter for a long time, getting cold before it gets to your table. They overly rely on the heat lamps, which unfortunately do nothing to help warm the cooling food. My boyfriend's chimichanga had freezing cold beef in it (which I almost never notice, but it was NOTICEABLY cold) and my food wasn't very warm either. But our potatoes were piping hot! So I think they had our food sit out while waiting for potatoes, hoping the heat lamps would warm the food, but failed miserably. (I also watched a side salad sit under the heat lamp and thought to myself, mmm warm salad). I think they just need to stop relying so heavily on the heat lamps (that don't help) and figure out their timing?? Because that's the only thing that's really frustrating about their food here. They get an extra star because fortunately they comped our meal when we mentioned how cold the food was, which was appreciated and now we may come back. At least for the drinks and coffee. Please figure out your timing!!

Yelp
Loved this place! Brunch was amazing. Make a ressie well in advance.... The food on point ( I couldn't resist), service was great and the place was vibrant and clean but not overwhelming making it a trifecta of fabulousness! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
The Poynt was on point! Great service, ambience, vibe was great but the food was absolutely delicious for brunch. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Another great meal at the Poynt! You cannot beat this place for ambiance and food. We come here every year while visiting family in Newburyport and we have never been disappointed. This time we had one of the sushi rolls and a delicious pizza that had fontina and shredded short rib as toppings. Both we outstanding! Super fresh fish in the sushi roll and the pizza was spot on. The Poynt is conveniently located in downtown Newburyport and it's very easy to park nearby. I would definitely recommend The Poynt. In my opinion, it's definitely one of the best restaurants in town.

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Good food and ambiance. I wish they had more cocktail selections though. Staff was nice and helpful.

Yelp
Had a nice dinner tonight. Great location, right downtown next to a big city lot. Bar, hightops, traditional seating & outdoor deck. Our server was Kim S. Quick efficient friendly. Everything you want in a server. Food was good prepared right seasoned well, good portions & a fair price. We will be back. Thanks guys.
google avatar

Yelp
Brunch was fantastic!! Our server was so friendly and the cocktails were fun and creative. I loved the GF options for food.

Kristen J.

Yelp
The more restaurants we try in Newburyport, the more we realize The Poynt is a favorite for this area. The food is amazing and portion sizes are more than adequate. The cocktail menu is creative. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The bar can run a little slow but it is a large restaurant and always full so it's understandable. It's fun on the patio in the summer and cozy by the hearth in the winter. We will return for sure!

Yelp
Very good value for the money. The food and drinks were excellent. The handhelds seem to be the most popular but I got the smoked cod which was cooked perfectly. The smoked apple butter old fashion was amazing. Deserts were mixed. The cider donuts were meh but the cheesecake was pretty good. Service was good and the atmosphere was fun for a date night.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing restaurant with superior ambiance and great staff. Food is always good. Wine list is great. Right downtown. Hard to beat.

Elayne L.

Yelp
First thing first, if you want to eat here on a Saturday night, plan ahead. We like to eat around 6:30. Use Resy, it ended up being to easier method. I could either eat at 5:40 or 8:00. I requested a quiet spot to chat. We've never been here before so I wasn't sure. They put us in a perfect spot, away from most of the noise. We split the harvest salad and my husband ordered pizza with prosciutto and I had the halibut. The salad was perfect for sharing. My only problem was the tiny sharing plates but, not a big deal! Our meals were delicious, the pizza had crispy edges, yummy! My fish was well seasoned and hot, as it should be of course. A tiny bit pricey but that's almost the norm nowadays. We will be back and make a reservation a day or three ahead.

Yelp
Service is still great although there has been a lot of turnover. The food runners are exceptional in their assistance and knowledge of what they are serving. In the past, I've really enjoyed their food but the past 4 visits have warranted an update. The food has gone downhill. I've tried a variety of different dishes so I know it wasn't a one off. The Brussel sprout salad (one of my go-tos) tasted like it was made earlier and re-warmed. Pork belly wrap was so overdone it tasted like beef jerky. It was also over-sauced which might have been an attempt to hide the pork belly. Finally, the crust on the flatbread was flavorless. I'll give it another try but will probably give it a couple of months. Food gets 2 stars Service/ambiance gets 4 stars.

Emma V.

Yelp
Great food and service is friendly. The ambiance is nice but a little dark and music is loud. I'd recommend the pizza!
google avatar

Daniela B.

Yelp
It was... fine. Went for a special occasion. The menu felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be. Italian, asian, New England seafood? Maybe good for groups with different tastes, but we like to share and certain pairings felt weird (like pizza and sushi). The food was good but nothing I'm dying to go back for. The location was just further down the street than the main cluster of restaurants if you're looking to be further from that, but no view or anything much more to it. Glad we tried it after all these years but we'll stick to our usual favorites in the area.

Yelp
We hosted a private brunch at The Poynt and it was lovely! The private room is pretty with a beautiful table. Jenessa, the manager, was so patient with all my questions going back and forth over email. She was incredibly responsive and went above and beyond to answer any questions and make sure the day went smoothly. Our server that day was Maddie and she was also great. She was very sweet and even helped us decorate the room early. The food and drinks were great too, apple cider donuts were delicious. Parking was convenient, behind the restaurant in the shared lot with Oldie's. I would definitely recommend The Poynt for anyone looking to host a small private function.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Pricy but consistent. I wish the portions were ever so slightly larger. Very accommodating staff and nice atmosphere.

Yelp
While on vacation at Hampton Beach, we were looking for a nice restaurant near the water. The Poynt did not disappoint! The beer list was extensive. The cocktails original and tasty. For appetizers we had calamari. It was lightly breaded and tasty. My dinner was Cioppino. It had plenty of lobster, large shrimp, mussels, and fish in a tomato broth. My table mates has the salmon, pan seared cod, fish tacos, and statler chicken. Everyone loved their meals and each was the perfect portion size. Dessert consisted of flourless chocolate cake, and vanilla bean cheesecake. Both were flavorful and again the perfect size. Our waitress was attentive and not bothered by our quirkiness!

Ronna R.

Yelp
The service was very friendly and the food delicious! We got the meatballs which had great flavor ,and the Tuna poke also delicious and so fresh! Drinks were mixed to perfection.

Yelp
Keep it simple. I eaten here third time. It was ok but not worth the $330 with tips for four ppl. It has the Boston menu prices with not the Boston level tastes. I asked the extra pan seared scallops(comes with 5 and asked for 5 more pieces) but the waitress simply charged the double of the plate. That's okay if the dish was great but it had the fouled taste - it was sour! We asked if something went bad but instead they put everything separately in the small dishes and not given reasonable answers to why the dish tasted foul! Clam chowder was just blend and fried calamari was overly salted....etc. sorry but we won't be coming back.

Yelp
After avoiding this place for years, since they opened (sorry), I finally gave it a try last night... Dang, I should have given in to the hip new spot long ago. Seriously impressed with the cooks in this kitchen and their knowledge of gluten!!!! GLUTEN FREE BREAD in the mussels, made me a seriously happy customer. Thank you for that, it's truly hard to find especially in a small town like Newburyport. I'd say it's a really good bet for anyone, the menu has tons of options as does the bar. Nice date spot and they have a big back patio which is nice to know, you can't tell from the street. Would return and definitely recommend.

Yelp
Food and Drinks: all tasted great! We went for Sunday brunch and got the breakfast pizza. Highly suggest it. It's more of a flatbread and has more of a cracker crust but still tasted good. Service: service was great. No complaints. We sat at the bar and everything was fast! Environment: definitely a fun environment. Nice setting and they have TVs to show all the games. Parking is right on the street but you can easily walk from downtown.

Jim R.

Yelp
We had brunch at The Poynt last weekend. Nice interior and the location is terrific but the food was just average. We all left feeling that each dish needed more flavor (or salt?). Three orders of The Spense, two were ordered with fried eggs and the eggs were unrecognizable when served- resembled potatoes au gratin. Neither of those orders came with the scone that was supposed to be part of the dish. Two orders of Eggs Benedict that were just meh. Likely the best order was the Breakfast Nachos which were flavorful and crispy. Service was good, people were friendly and courteous, just left feeling that the food was not up to par. Might be a better spot to grab a drink and an app. Generous bar space and looked lively.

Yelp
Solid experience, atmosphere and service. Food was excellent. Make reservations as the place fills up fast. A NBPT must!

Deborah C.

Yelp
I have been there twice- the first time they gave away a reservation for a party of 25- because they thought the other party would be "done in time". I decided to try them again- we were left waiting at the hostess area- the bar tender looked at us then when we hesitated- she walked away from us mumbling. she couldnt have been ruder. we were seated at a table, waitresses kept hitting the legs of my chair as they walked by- I was pulled in to the table- and the calamari was inedible and I sent it back. first time I have ever done that in my life. I will never ever return. it's Newburyport- there are loads of places to go where the staff if happy to see you. I'm done- what's the Poynt I'd they are rude?

Tara X.

Yelp
Last weekend I brought a friend out for a celebratory () dinner and drinks and I cannot express how amazing the experience was. Paige was our bartender and she spoiled us! Funny, sweet, attentive and a wizard behind the bar! We weren't sure exactly what we wanted and everything on the drinks menu sounded great. She asked what we liked and she concocted absolutely delicious drinks. All around- best energy around! Thank you so much
google avatar

Wendy R.

Yelp
The drinks here are terrific & the later nite food options are great! I do wish there were more vegetarian options on the normal menu. That's why I only gave a 4.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Chowder was cold for two of us, then the brisket was also cold and overdone, and the service was slow. Not a great place in my opinion.

Elisa J.

Yelp
Had dinner here the other night. Menu is limited but found something and was pleased with the short rib tacos. Ordered a 2nd glass of wine and while not quite finished with my 1st glass, the bartender refilled my existing glass with my 2nd glass of wine! Who does that? For $14 I only received 1/2 of a glass of wine. The guy next to me got pizza and it looked undercooked and disgusting. Not sure I'd go back. For $120 it was underwhelming.
google avatar

Laurie P.

Yelp
Not impressed. Food was served Luke warm at best. Since we were sitting at the kitchen side of the bar I was able to witness how long our food sat under the lights being ignored. The bar situation seemed odd too. We never really felt like any one person was waiting on us. Felt like 3 or 4 people were which should translate into better service but in reality we felt neglected and confused as to who we should ask for things. With all of the dining options available in Newburyport we will not be heading back anytime soon.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Amazing food, exceptional service and great ambiance. They were accommodating as we wanted a booth. We got the mushroom flat bread pizza, the brussel sprout salad, and beet salad. The food was just amazing! Thank you again! I would highly recommend it here!
google avatar

Chris N.

Yelp
Made reservations for a Wednesday night... glad I did as the place was packed. Nice variety on the menu for any sort of tastebuds. Had the chowder to start - it was ok - on the bland side. Shared a Tuna Poke Stack which was very good and for the main had the Braised Short Rib which was a gigantic portion that made for a 2nd meal the next day as well. The short rib was super tender and flavorful and the fried asparagus was delicious. The service was friendly but average. Getting water refills and beverage refills was a challenge as they didn't really check on you once you got your order but there's enough help working that you can flag someone else down and they take care of you rather than waiting for your waitress to do it. I will most definitely return here.

Yelp
Every visit is hit or miss, but this latest will probably be my last for a while. Was in the mood for mussels and the chili oil in the Mussels Fra Diavolo was tempting. Unfortunately, only a few of the mussels were actually edible and the "sauce" looked like canned crushed tomato that lacked flavor (and spice). On top of that, the bread was stale and chewy, so even that couldn't save the dish. Didn't order entrees or more drinks because of how disappointing they were. Hostess and waitress clearly wanted to be anywhere but at work. However, if you find yourself there and the buffalo cauliflower potstickers are on the menu, those were delicious!

Krista J.

Yelp
Great spot for amazing food & drinks! We got the sushi for an app and it was very fresh. Dinner was great, the scallops were cooked perfectly and the chicken sandwich is very flavorful. There are also a variety of cocktails to chose from. Highly recommend!

Deborah W.

Yelp
Just booked their private dining room, Wolfe's Den for a birthday party for 9. Had such a fabulous celebration. The room is intimate and beautiful! The service was excellent as was the food. We weren't remotely rushed and our server, Kim was very attentive, funny and did a great job of reading the room and keeping the wine flowing! The food was great, from brussel sprout salads to roasted cod and braised short rib over creamy polenta. The scallops were perfectly seared and delicious! Overall a great vibe, and we were made to feel very comfortable yet special! Highly recommend.

Victoria H.

Yelp
We loved the apple cider donuts and had the eggs Benedict. The restaurant was managed well and clean. Our server was pleasant and had the help of her colleagues - a team approach!! We loved the Benedict - the tomato slice made the dish! It was fresh and professionally prepared. We'll be back!!!

Yelp
I almost gave this very a generous four stars because I appreciate the impulse to create a small plates restaurant with inventive dishes in an area not known for these types of restaurants, but after writing the review I realized the taste and value of everything fell disappointingly short of that rating. Service: A Outdoor ambiance: B Food presentation: A Food taste: C+ Value: D Drink presentation: A Drink taste: C I was barely able to finish the drink special even through it was beautiful to photograph because it was too sweet (although I'm not generally a huge fan of blueberry), but fortunately my boyfriend preferred mine to his and we switched-- his was The Islander with tequila and coconut milk. The drinks were medium to weak strength but city prices so I felt like I could have gotten more of my money's worth for those. The outdoor seating was great because it allowed us the comfort to be able to relax and talk unlike the indoor space which was slightly too loud for comfortable conversation on a Friday night. The only caveat is that flying beetles began to attack once the sun went down-- the restaurant needs to invest in some citronella candles or mosquito netting. If you go, I would recommend getting the crab rangoon roll-- nothing spectacular but yummy nonetheless. You can forgo the buffalo cauliflower potstickers-- good intentions but just no. I was disappointed by the bucatini with duck confit-- I think it was maybe one noodle? A small plate in the strictest sense of the word even though I'm pretty sure it was an entree.
