15 Best Boutique Hotels in London With Turndown Tea, Lush Gardens, and Rooftop Bars | Condé Nast Traveler

"The vibe: Japanese calm Location: Marylebone Top amenities: Turndown tea Best for:  A meditative take on London Akatoki is derived from the ancient Japanese word for “dawn” and this really was a new dawn for boutique hotels in London when it opened in 2020: an 82-room taste of Japanese hospitality and a bubble of tranquillity, just two blocks from heaving Oxford Street and Marble Arch. This is the first UK property for Japanese hospitality doyens Prince Hotels, and they’ve gone all out to showcase their decades of expertise. The calming rooms are dressed in lots of light wood and neutral tones, with barely-there images of tranquil landscapes split across panels behind the beds, and simple wooden furniture bringing the outside in. Downstairs, the whiskey-specialist Malt Bar & Lounge fuses Japanese ingredients with famous cocktails, while restaurant TOKii puts a Japanese spin on local ingredients, from lobster croquettes with mango and yuzu salsa to caramelized black cod with miso and sweet corn fried rice. Loose leaf tea by the bed at turndown is the final ingredient in this recipe for calm." - Julia Buckley

The Prince Akatoki London (London, UK) 37 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A few streets away from Marble Arch, near the the west end of Oxford Street and the entrance to Hyde Park, might not be the first place you’d look for a hotel that’s a celebration of Japanese culture. London has long been a cosmopolitan city, though, and this venture from the Tokyo-based Prince hotel brand distinguishes itself from many other local luxury hotels with the tranquil atmosphere, thoughtful design, and first-class service for which Japanese hotels are famous." - Tablet Hotels

My wife and I visited London for three nights on the way back to the US. Usually we stay in Chelsea, but this time we stayed around Mable Arch. The hotel was very professionally run. The reception did a great job and the concierge had great ideas. One afternoon we took a private sushi lesson with Kazuyo at their in-house restaurant Tokii. It was a great time. Kazuyo was very friendly and made the time learning how to make sushi very enjoyable. We did room service one night from Tokii and it was great. Also, get the breakfast included in your reservation. It is wonderful.

Thoroughly deserving of five stars, this hotel exemplifies quiet luxury and excellent service. We stayed for one night in a ground floor suite and, overall, found it to be a wonderfully calm and relaxing experience. We felt very spoilt - our room was upgraded and a plate of beautiful sweet treats was left for us after a discreet turndown service. During the afternoon, we attended a Sushi Masterclass in the hotel's Toki restaurant. Kazuyo was an expert tutor who talked us through the process of making sushi rice before gently guiding us to make various forms of nigiri, maki, temaki and uramaki. All four of us attending the class (two couples) produced a platter of assorted sushi that looked and tasted incredible. The ingredients were top quality (particularly the melt-in-the-mouth raw tuna). We enjoyed eating our sushi platters in the restaurant once the class had finished, accompanied by a glass of sparkling saki and a bowl of delicious miso soup. Kazuyo went out of her way to ensure we enjoyed the experience and we can happily recommend her masterclass to complete sushi beginners! The platters are very filling so we found we didn't need an evening meal. We took a lovely evening stroll around Hyde Park instead, before enjoying some drinks in the hotel's bar and retiring to our room to slip into our yutakas. After a very comfortable night's sleep, we had ate a cooked breakfast in the restaurant and ambled off to enjoy some shopping along Oxford Street before heading home. Thank you Kazuyo!

A good hotel is made great by its people and the hair dryers placed in its rooms. Given that criteria, I give the Prince Akatoki London my highest marks. Let's start with what matters most, the people! Everyone was just lovely but standing out above all others are Valentina (server at Tokii) and Dolores (front desk). Valentina and Dolores, in their respective roles, handle all things with grace and are attentive, communicative, and thoughtful. They are also wonderfully human, kind and funny. Valentina absolutely killed it during dinner service even as people grew needy. Dolores stays calm when 5 people want something all at once. If you're reading this, you likely have a job and know what that is like. ||Now, onto the hair dryers. No low grade Con-airs here. It's all Babyliss. NICE.||The rest of the hotel is stellar, lovely, well accommodated, with a nice gym. Beds are comfortable, soaps and shampoos are Malin-Goetz (so, yay!) The doormen are also gracious and sweet. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Great location. Many thoughtful touches - from the camomile tea buds left out one evening in my room so I could brew my own tea, so the friendly staff in the lobby. Gym was compact but had exactly what's needed for a robust workout. Bed was comfortable; the TV in the bathroom was an added luxury!

Loved my stay at the Prince Akatoki London. Upon arrival I was impressed by the friendly staff and my room was upgraded. The room was on the small side but had everything I needed and was immaculately clean. The neighborhood is lovely. The room quiet. The bed comfortable. And Ioved my breakfast. I've been telling all my friends to stay here the next time they're in London.

Great location for shopper as it closed to Oxford street. We stay at room 509. The setting of this room make it spacious for us. Eventhough there is a few steps between bed and bathroom which may not ideal for elderly. The flushing button is quite hard to push. But we like that the hotel switch on the heater in bathroom all the time so the temperature is just right for bathing. The choice for breakfast, although limited, is nice.

One of the most peaceful and restorative stays I’ve had in London. The entire hotel has such a calm, zen atmosphere — it felt like stepping into a spa from the moment I walked in. Everything smells incredible, the service is genuinely exceptional, and I honestly had the best rest I’ve had in ages. Every detail is thoughtful, elegant, and quietly luxurious. Can’t wait to return.
