The Prized Pig draws BBQ enthusiasts from across the region with its devotion to slow-smoked meats and scratch-made sides. Owner Matt Ziegler, a South Bend native, combines techniques honed on the competitive barbecue circuit with a welcoming, unpretentious vibe. Local publications like the South Bend Tribune and Midwest Living have praised the brisket’s deep smoke ring and the rich, peppery bark on their St. Louis–style ribs. The menu’s rotating specials—think smoked turkey or burnt ends—keep regulars coming back, while the family-run feel and community events make every meal memorable.

OMG if you are near this place you should do yourself a favor and stop in, you will not be disappointed. We ordered 2 platters one was $30 and the other was $35. We have plenty for lunch tomorrow. Polish sausage dynamite with the SC mustard sauce.

To be honest, I was never really a fan of barbecue food until I started going to The Prized Pig. My family loves going here and we enjoy experiencing their brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, fries, mac & cheese and the beverages they offer. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking to experience great authentic barbecue food with the family.

Google
Really good BBQ offering house made sauces & sides. I enjoyed the pulled pork & ribs tips, really tender with a little smokey flavor. All the sauces were really good, I’m glad they leave you with the bottles so you don’t have to keep asking for more. Had the pleasure of meeting Chelsea who waited on us, she answered all of our questions & made sure we were pleased with everything. I can’t wait to go back & try other items on the menu!

Google
Out of state travel takes you places. One of them was here. Every time I went to Indiana/Michigan, I would try and stop here. Wings were fantastic. Brisket delicious, everything else was incredible. Beer always a plus. Staff really cool and friendly.

Went went to lunch on 5/10/25 around 1:30PM. The place was crowded but we got seated at the last table. The 2 servers were obviously very busy but they remained friendly and came over within minutes. We ordered, got our drinks and food came out quickly. We expected a wait with a packed house but we were lucky to be wrong. Every thing was delicious. We had, chicken, pulled pork, and rib tips. The rib tips were big and meaty, the chicken was moist and tender, and the pulled pork was done to perfection. Keep up the great work. This was our first time there and it will NOT be our last!!! PS. The meals came out with 5 different choices of sauce in large squeeze bottles!!!!

Google
Best bbq in town. Small dinning room with outstanding atmosphere. Staff is friendly and attentive. Cornbread and bbq beans to die for!

Google
Great food! Great service! It's not a huge dine in area but still comfortable and has a homey feel to it, even has a little bar area with a full bar. I ordered brisket sliders, which were very good. We also had The Sqealer with brisket and the Rib Tips with fries, which were homemade and cornbread, which tasted like cornbread cake! EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS. The sweet tea is freshly brewed and the lemonade was also very good. The service was great and very friendly! I will be returning 🤗

Google
I really enjoy the food and though I order carry out, the service is always good as well. I ordered online and they called to let me know they were out of the rib tips and I’d be refunded. Cool, still received my loaded fries with pulled pork (which was to die for) so I was happy. A week later and no refund, I call and speak to a manager who is apparently able to refund me immediately. Which makes me wonder why it wasn’t done sooner and why I needed to call to initiate it. I also would have loved to use that money towards placing another order but wasn’t even given the option to speak before being dismissed. Overall, not a terrible experience but questioning why my money wasn’t refunded sooner.

Yelp
Easily the best BBQ in South Bend IMO. I love their pulled pork and sauce selection. The waiters are usually pretty attentive, and the atmosphere is relaxed. I have to say the sides are phenomenal, amazing mac and cheese, coleslaw, cornbread, and baked beans.

Yelp
Stopped in today to buy some Pulled Pork for an easy dinner. The inside is small but can seat quite a few people and they do have a small tap and liquor selection. For $17 the pound of pulled pork is good! They don't provide you with much sauce but for taking home to cook dinner we had plenty at home! Good food at a really good price!

Yelp
Love this place and the kind people. Been with them since the Niles days I usually get brisket. Don't pass up the bacon wrapped smoked stuffed jalapenos!

Yelp
Ready set bbq!!! Cool vibe. And a good bbq menu. Service was great. Helpful suggestions and attentive Food was great. I had brisket and ribs. Wife had the chicken. All was very good. And the sauces were great too. Bourbon and Alabama. Downtown Mishawaka makes for a great foodie stop.

Yelp
Walking in was nice, it was empty, but smelled great! Stoked to get food quickly! The decor is farm meets chic restaurant and bar. Our server, Macalyn, greeted us immediately and was very attentive in answering our questions. It appears to have a full bar. Lots of TV's each on a different channel, including BobRoss! Little John Mayer on the radio... I'm getting a 1/2 smoked chicken, and hunbbie gets 1/4lb brisket and a half rack of ribs. Everything was really nice. It didn't blow me away, but it was delicious.

Yelp
We have been to the Prized Pig quite a few times. They are popular and usually run out of ribs and brisket by 630. Its located in the old 114 space, they shrank the bar and expanded the dining room. Its very nice, the bbq is very tender, good smoked flavor. Menu is pretty succinct, brisket, ribs, tips, sausage and chicken. They have uniquitous bbq sides- beans, slaw, potato salad, macaroni and cheese. They serve yankee cornbread, its sweet and yellow. My wife loves it but to me it tastes like a corn flavored cupcake. Service is friendly and fast for the food, drinks come a little slower.

Shane W.

Yelp
Ordered what was called a "Family Platter" and also added an extra meat to make it "Mega". Spent $100 on the meal and amount of food was laughable. The 4 sides that come along each were not enough for a side for one person. They also forget to give me the 4 pieces of cornbread that was suppose to come with it. Lesson learned, never again.

Yelp
This place is a diamond in the rough. Awesome service , cool atmosphere , & amazing food. The beef brisket sandwich is killer & gets better every time I get it.. keep it up !!

Yelp
Always a great meal. Definitely one of the best bbq joints in the Michiana area. Already know the meats are great. Sides are great. Sauces are great. Decided to try the smoked chicken alfredo this time, with broccoli added and served with garlic toast. Did not disappoint. Big portion. Really tasty. I'm stuffed, happy, and have just enough leftover for a midnight snack.

Yelp
Food was awesome and service was fantastic! Small, cozy dining room. Can't wait to go again!

Yelp
This place is small, but mighty! We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed, but fortunately we were seated quickly. We opted to share a three meat platter and several sides. Everything was amazing, including the sides! We'll definitely be back, especially since they are now serving beer!

Michael M.

Yelp
Ordered the family platter on a Sunday. Pork belly was cold and not fresh, burnt ends were cold, was up charged for burnt ends $10 and came in a little cup super fatty and not warm, finally the ribs were cold and definitely tasted like they were from the day before and not fresh. The best thing was the corn bread and fries. Place has potential but needs to step there game up if they want to keep there doors open. There's better BBQ out there.

Magda M.

Yelp
BEST BBQ IN INDIANA! Everything was just perfect. The restaurant is cozy with a modern feel. We were the only ones in the restaurant, such a shame, and were greeted so kindly by Leslie. We ordered loaded nachos for our starter and she recommended brisket in it so we did and oh man! Best choice. Brisket was so tender and flavorful. The house made cheese sauce though... man that was killer! Just the dish as a whole was perfect. I ordered the fried pork belly bites plater, and Mt bf ordered a brisket sandwich, both perfect. I will say if the cornbread was warm it would have been better, but it was still really tasty and definitely not dry. Their potatoes salad was diffraction than anything I've had do that was a great change. They have housemate pickles that just paired well with how heavy the meat was. Their OG bbq sauce that they serve on the side was some of the best sauce I've ever had. Mac n cheese was a touch over cooked but we did show up close to them closing. The brisket sandwich had a THICK piece a meat which was greatly appreciated. Most places try to skimp on that but definitely not them. But just like tge nachos super juicy and flavorful. The pork belly bites were perfectly fried and still juicy. Just the whole experience here was amazing. Such a friendly crew. We also had to buy some pickles and their og sauce. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Had bbq pork sandwiches and the best french fries smoked chicken sandwich wasn't as good.

Yelp
A little update to my review. HAD to call Prized Pig TODAY for refund of my money. Order 8/19, never received. This is NOT a Door Dash issue. In my Google review that is what they state. My money was taken out for an order they did not fill. Now it will take 5-7 business days for refund. Very bad business.

Yelp
I just ordered dinner from the prized pig. I ordered rib tips, fries, and baked beans. Today I am pleasantly surprised, this place has gotten better since my first review! Everything is very tasty my only downside is there's not as many tips as I would like. I have included a picture of my food, business card ,And receipt There's not many places to get good tips in South Bend Mishawaka anymore I do like this place and will go back

Yelp
Grrreat! Great burnt ends, brisket, pulled pork! If you seek great q here be it! Going back real soon

Yelp
I remember coming to this restaurant when they were located in Niles and was sad when that place closed. I was back in town & saw they had opened in South Bend and had to visit. They have a great location and I was able to order ahead. I really enjoyed my whole meal- I got the pulled chicken sandwich with fries and cornbread. Everything was just as good as I remember. I think you get charged for the BBQ sauce and something I would clarify next time. The food quality was delicious, portions were huge, and everything came out fresh. I definitely think the meal was worth what I paid. I will be back here the next time I am back in town.

Yelp
When this restaurant first opened, my husband carried out and the food was seriously overpriced and not particularly tasty. A few years later my dad took me to eat because he loves the place and I want my dad to have what he wants. Anyway, I ordered the beef brisket platter and it was amazing! I don't know what was up with the first time I had their food, but they had just opened, so they deserve a break due to that fact. My dad also had the beef brisket and everything including the service was A+. I will say though that the prices are pretty steep. I've been to many BBQ places and this place is the most expensive. However, if we are going out to eat, we can afford it or we'd stay home and cook. Will definitely be back.

Hannah S.

Yelp
I always love to support local when I can but I paid $25 for the brisket platter and got nearly all fat. Very disappointing. Though my husband got the ribs and he was very satisfied even though they forgot both of our sauces.

Yelp
What a great find!!! Stopped on a whim at this little gem of a place. The service was prompt, the food was awesome, and I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Had the rib tips they were really good. I like the sauces. Coleslaw and baked beans are also good. I'll come back again in support of local business.

Yelp
I checked out The Prized Pig today. Hands down the best BBQ in the Mishawaka/South Bend Area. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and delicious. Their sauces are pretty amazing too. I found their Sweet & Spicy Bourbon Sauce matched the ribs well and their Sweet & Tangy Original with the chicken. ‍

Yelp
My husband and I found a new spot for lunch. We absolutely love their delicious corn bread! The rib tips were so juicy and that Mac and cheese was just perfect.

Michele S.

Yelp
Great food loved the meat and BBQ sauces. Friendly service. Had the Beef Brisket and it was excellent.

Yelp
Great food. Lots of sauces to chose from. Excellent serving sizes. Cute little place to eat.

Yelp
Pretty darn good bbq and a decent beer list! This place isn't big, so if it's a busy night in town or something, expect a bit of a wait. Ended up meeting a friend for lunch, bbq and a couple beers and was pleased with the food, beer and conversation! We had a bunch of different stuff, brisket, ribs, pork belly and sausage. All of it was super good, but if I had to pick a 'least favorite' it would have been the pork belly. The piece I got just didn't hit the stop for me, but it wasn't bad... maybe we just had too much to pick from?! :) The brisket was very good, great bark, smoke ring and flavor. Good mix of moist and a bit leaner cuts. They cut ours SUPER thick.. i would have liked to see it a cut a bit thinner, but thats no biggy. The beer list isn't huge, but they had a great mix of local beers, types of beers and variety overall. They have a bunch of different sauces on the table.. you should definitely be able to find something you like if needed. Overall, great spot. i would not hesitate to swing by when i'm in the area.

John M.

Yelp
Delicious brisket sandwiches. Real cut fries. This was a second option when researching on Yelp. Now it will be my first when in the area. Very nice staff. Cool old building.

Yelp
We were fans of the Prized Pig at its original location in Niles and were excited to stop by the new location at Mishawaka today, going out of our way on our Thanksgiving road trip back home. The space is cozy and cute - lots of tables and some kitschy barbecue decor on the wall. The front of the restaurant is all glass looking out onto one of downtown Mishawaka's quintessential main streets and letting in plenty of light. We were there around 3:30pm and they were already out of a few things, but it's also a holiday weekend (and a big shopping weekend) so that wasn't a complete surprise to us. Our server was helpful and attentive. I had the brisket sandwich which comes with a generous portion of sliced brisket on a toasted brioche bun. Everything about that sandwich was heavenly - the bark on the brisket was a combination of a good char and flavorful spice rub, it was perfectly smoked for maximum flavor, and the bun was fresh. I added the Alabama White sauce, which is a horseradish sauce, and could not have been happier with my life choices. My husband had The Squealer, which is a pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw and macaroni and cheese on a brioche bun. It was as messy as expected and, doused in their bourbon barbecue sauce, an excellent lunch. We were hopeful to get dessert but our server said they don't have it yet because they are getting equipment for the baker. It was only a disappointment because after how good everything else was, we were looking forward to ending the meal with tasty sheet cake or cobbler. I have two very small pieces of constructive feedback: the women's bathroom was freaking freezing and while it's not a place I intend to loiter, I would at least like to not find the only source of warmth to be the hot water. There also seemed to be a lot of confusion about what they were out of, what they would have coming out of the smoker soon, etc. This was noticeable because of the server shouting things like "86 the sausage" across the restaurant to another server who was taking an order and a server rushing across the restaurant after a customer said they wanted ribs to make sure they got "dibs" on it before someone else placed an order. Maybe work on a better system for communication of the status of the meats? Overall, loved the experience and glad to have the Prized Pig back in business. We'll go out of our way anytime more of that delicious brisket.

Dazie C.

Yelp
The service was amazing, as well as the pulled pork sandwich. I can say the potato salad was very bland, no flavor, as well as the Coleslaw. The potato's for the potato salad were not cooked completely as well.
google avatar

Kourtney S.

Yelp
Delicious bbq joint. Disappointed the last time I went as it was lunch and they didn't have their brisket. Sides are good as well. I will happily be back when I'm in the area and craving bbq

Yelp
Brisket sandwich: 8/10 Baked Beans: 6/10 (unique, bold flavor) Cornbread: 8/10 Pulled pork: 9/10 Service was excellent. Food was great.

Yelp
Rib tips and brisket. My favorite things to order here. They knock it out of the park. Their sauces rock too.

Bob ..

Yelp
Brisket and pulled pork sandwiches were very good. Would get them again. The cheeseburger was just OK, would not get it again.

Yelp
I visited a friend in South Bend MLK Jr. Weekend and decided to try The Prized Pig. I've been to SB more than a dozen times but never tried this place. I ordered rib tips, potato salad, fries, and macaroni. The only thing that turned me off just a tad was the way the tips were cut. Just seemed like there wasn't enough meat. But the flavor of everything including the classic bbq sauce was delicious!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Had pulled pork sandwiches with mac-n-cheese & baked beans as sides. Tried the original and bourbon sauces. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be back and recommend this bbq restaurant to all our people. The server was super friendly and helpful, and the kitchen staff definitely knows what they are doing back there.
google avatar

Christian L.

Yelp
Some the best BBQ I have around town, the service was great as well I recommend the Squealer sandwich it was great and the bourbon sauce is good. The mac and cheese was ok but not the best but overall I think this place is great and I'll definitely be returning.

Yelp
As of 6/6/20 @ 4pm they are open, but ran out of food. Everyone understands the challenges due to COVID-19, but they were running out of food long before the pandemic. A great problem to have... for the Prized Pig, customers... not so much unfortunately. Looking forward to regular hours with actual food available in the future. *photos attached were from my previous visit earlier this year.
google avatar

Krystal L.

Yelp
Amazing food! I stumbled in this place by accident and wow! What a wonderful surprise! GREAT service, reasonable prices for high-quality food! Well worth a visit!
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
Still the best BBQ in town. Like the 'real' BBQ spots down South, get here early if you want the pick of the litter. A good, popular BBQ spot is always going to run out of stuff by dinner time. Heck, a lot of the best ones aren't even open for dinner - they close at 4pm. I've had the burnt ends, brisket, pulled pork, "mcrib" sandwich, hot links... all have been great. Sides are delish too. And I hear they now have beer on tap so I'll have to go back and get the full experience. A+
google avatar

Bonnie B.

Yelp
Walked in and read the menu which seemed to be overpriced. Knew the space from the previous owner as trendy and cozy, but the renovations feels like a cheap alternative. White everything and generic feel which didn't match the high cost of the food. We left without being noticed. Hope they have more to offer than the exterior impression we felt.
google avatar

Margie K.

Yelp
We had been going to the Prized Pig since they were in Niles and was very upset when they closed. We decided to try the Mishawaka location recently. The location, while close to a lot of things, is not as desirable for us. Parking was a bit of a pain. Once inside, we found that they now seat you, but you are thisclose to other folks. Not the most comfortable. It's unavoidable to not hear each other's conversations and getting up out of your seat just to stick your butt in the face of the person sitting next to you isn't great. As far as the food, most everything was great! The Blackberry BBQ sauce was very good. We liked the idea of the rotating sauce options. The pickles and corn bread, however, was not nearly as good as the original location. We did like that we could now order a beer with our meal. Our understanding is that the cook from the original Prized Pig has had his own restaurant for quite some time. We will be trying them soon and hope that they have what we liked best about the original Prized Pig. We will definitely return to this location but hope they rethink the seating.

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Phenomenal taste. Excellent service. Wish I didn't take so long to try. Most definitely in my Michiana top 10.

Yelp
Went here today to check it out since we haven't been there before. So, everything was going okay, until we got our food. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the meat was both extremely dry and cold. Plus, I didn't care for the bun. It was overpowering the whole sandwich. So, I tell the waitress that the meat was cold and she went to tell the manager (never came out and apologized for the problem). When the waitress came back with our bill, they had taken a whole $2 off the total. Won't be back anytime soon. On the bright side, the fries were good and the pickles were also good.

Aaron A.

Yelp
It was okay. It wasnt terrible, it wasnt great. It was just okay. For the price id rather save a bit and have Martins Smokehouse, its just as good if not better.

Joshua H.

Yelp
For sure some of the best smoked meats you can find in the area.. Need 22 more characters to post a review so 2222222
google avatar

Kristin W.

Yelp
I want to love this place but...I just don't. I've went at all times of the day and they're always out of a majority of the meats. Close the restaurant if you have 1/2 pound of pulled pork left. Seems like a waste. Menu is small and nothing is spectacular. Hand it fries is all I can attest for that is good. And waitress with her child that is screaming around the restaurant, I could do without.

Denny M.

Yelp
Not impressed. The pulled pork was not even warm. No salt and pepper on the table. Wine menu was not very selective. No red dry wines. French fries were excellent
