Peek Inside Yojimbo, Fairfax’s Busy New Japanese Destination - Eater LA

"Fairfax’s busy new Yojimbo is ready to take the next step forward. Beginning September 7, the Japanese restaurant in the former Golden State space will open for on-site indoor dining. Far removed from the building’s former gastropub look (which lasted 12 good years), the new Yojimbo offers a pared-down, light wood and brick aesthetic with two long bar-height railings running across the length of the dining room. To go along with the formal opening — the restaurant has been doing limited takeout service from a window until now — chefs Keisuke Akabori (Spago) and Chris Ono (Eleven Madison Park, Providence) are expanding Yojimbo’s menu to include a full slate of Japanese bowls (think chicken teriyaki, braised beef, and more) as well as kaisen boxes, wings, salads, and more. Hours run 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday." - Farley Elliott

Our mom moved to the Providence in the winter (2025) after having toured multiple assisted living and memory care residences. We chose The Providence because the facility is lovely, the apartments are comfortable and bright, there are numerous activities offered daily, the pricing includes medication distribution (many places charge additional fees which can amount to an additional $1,000/month or more), and the dining room food is quite tasty. Since our mom has lived at the Providence for several months, we discovered The Providence’s absolute best feature: its STAFF!! The Providence administration does an amazing job hiring the most caring, patient, and friendly staff we have ever encountered. Everyone including the dining room servers, nursing assistants, nurses and medication techs, the folks coordinating and running the many activities, the front desk staff, and the building maintenance team, takes the time to get to know each resident’s personality, interests, families, and things about their lives from when they were younger. Our mom’s adjustment to assisted living was difficult at first, but the administrative team worked with our family to come up with several creative solutions that have helped our mom feel more comfortable.

My 98-year-old mother recently moved into The Providence in Fairfax, and we couldn't be happier. The staff made the move incredibly smooth and have been going out of their way to make her feel at home. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and in a perfect location next to the Metro. Parking in the underground garage is easy and convenient. The food is top notch, and both the nursing and maintenance teams are professional, kind, and attentive. There are also plenty of activities to keep residents engaged and social. We’re so grateful for the care and support she’s receiving.

Ray Dennison and Odanny are each problematic. The residents ask for me to perform by name- see photo. I went to perform in December 2024 and an employee knocked over my speaker. Yet, Ray refuses to pay for the damage that one of his employees caused to my speaker equipment when I was there performing! One of the staff set me up to perform in front of a sliding door that the employees were going in and out of for a Christmas party and one of the employees - a black male about 6ft- opened the sliding door and it knocked my speaker over which then hit the piano bench causing the dent you see in the photo. To add, the speaker now will not sit properly in the stand and has a lean to it. My mic had a cord and was jerked out of the system and now my microphone gives off a scratchy sound when moved. Musicians already have it very difficult…but I’ve even given them 50% off of my services and this is how you repay? To add, Odanny has come across as racist and since my speaker fell, has not booked me again despite resident requests. I am a professional musician and I carry myself as such. If they treat musicians this way- whom are there to make life better for residents- imagine how the residents are treated! Just know that the way staff/contractors are treated says a lot about a company! I hope that you find a better place to send your loved ones instead of here with these heartless people! The leadership is a reflection of how the staff behave!

Very nice facility with very friendly staff. The restaurant inside looks great and there is a rooftop area that can be used but is secure for safety. I would recommend staying here if you want a nice area with nice people and easy access to the metro. It is not within reasonable walking distance to any grocery store or convenience store though

It’s very rare that you find genuine folks who care about what they do and go above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy and well taken care of. The providence and all the staff there make you feel right at home. Thank you again for all that you do and if you are looking for the perfect fit this is the place. 😊

Having worked at The Providence of Fairfax for a year now as a Community Life Assistant, I can say it’s a great place for both potential employees and residents. If you’re seeking a rewarding job, you’ll find a supportive and fulfilling work environment here. If you’re looking for a place to live for yourself or a loved one, you’ll be offered a welcoming and comfortable community. I highly recommend scheduling a tour to see for yourself.

Both my parents moved in together this year to the Providence. The staff made the process of moving in very easy. They were very helpful. My family has been very happy with the care my parents are receiving. I recommend the Providence to folks whenever I have an opportunity.

It is an honor and a privilege to document what the Providence of Fairfax community has brought to my life. I arrived here after a debilitating illness made living by myself impossible. Thanks to the fantastic efforts of Lena Dingle, my daughters were able to arrange a direct move in from the health care system. I have been growing in mind, body, and spirit ever since. The staff, members, and facilities of Providence has given me a new lease on life.i

Yelp
Had the worst meal of my 72 year life, living in many states and on three continents, at the Providence Great Falls Restaurant in Fairfax, VA. I'd attended a sales and marketing presentation on April 19th and won a $50 voucher for a meal at their Great Falls Restaurant for residents. Today a senior friend and I went there for lunch. For $50 we got a 1/4 ounce spinach "salad" and a main course cup of salty, watery broth of a substance containing some mushed vegetables and an unrecognizable grey substance advertised as "creamy shrimp, seafood and vegetable stew." There were no shrimp or recognizable seafood and the entire cup of broth tasted like salt, lots and lots of salt. This was the most miserable and unhealthy meal either my friend or I have experienced in our long lives. Give a thumbs down for living here and eating this unhealthy meal plan food which left us both hungry and thirsty.
