Eater Classics Week 2015 | Eater Philly

"A recent review of The Pub in Pennsauken warns that a dish touted as snapper soup may in fact be turkey rather than turtle, so snapper-soup enthusiasts should be alert when ordering." - Eater Staff

It was our first time eating at The Pub, and even before going in, I already knew it was popular because there were already a lot of cars outside even before they opened at 3:00 PM. Once we got inside, we were seated right away, but just a few minutes later, the place started to get crowded, and soon people were already waiting to be seated. From the outside, the place looks just so-so, but once you get inside, it’s beautiful with a Christmasy vibe...warm, festive, and very inviting. I ordered the salmon, which was just so-so, but the steak my friend ordered was really good, tender and delicious. My other friends who been there many times also enjoyed their food, which made the experience even better. The servers were great, very attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was awesome, lively and enjoyable. Overall, it was a good experience, and I’d definitely come back to try other dishes.

Enjoyed a great dinner at The Pub, Saturday evening. Janis, our waitress was wonderful ! My wife had the Caesar salad and said it “was as good as it always is”..I enjoyed several items on the abundant salad bar. We opted for a loaf of their warm loaf of bread.. and both of us enjoyed their Surf & Turf(medium rare) . I had ordered a baked potato, yet Janis brought mashed however immediately noticed it and brought the baked potato. Everything was delicious, just like we remembered it to be. The filet melted in your mouth, the lobster tail cooked perfectly and delicious. Forgot to mention, we enjoyed the cold/crisp shrimp cocktail. Definitely a great evening!

Spent Thanksgiving here with a party of 4. Got the Thanksgiving Special which was Roasted Turkey with gravy, stuffing, candied sweet potato and green beans. It came with cream of mushroom soup, the salad bar, and a slice of pumpkin pie all for $39.95. We didn't have to make a reservation (called earlier in the week and they said only accepting walk ins) and our wait at dinner time was 45-60 mins. We sat at the bar and barely got to finish our drink by the time we were seated. The whole bar smelled like chocolate cake, it was incredible! We found out why, they had a Yankee Candle going. 🍫 The place is huge and the food is delicious. The cream of mushroom soup was soo flavorful and had huge pieces of mushroom in it. The turkey wasn't dry and had tons of gravy. The stuffing was yummy and I think it had pecans in it, which I never had before, but loved. The candied sweet potato was perfect! Would definitely recommend The Pub and especially for your Thanksgiving dinner! 🦃

Our server Chrissy she was great! Very attentive and made great suggestions. The food was “Old School” amazing!!! As it always was since I was a Kid. The salad bar is the same…. Totally the best ceasar salad ever! And the big loaf of fresh hot bread they bring out 😁The snapper soup was another old school favorite of mine and they did it right! I tried seafood for the first time here. I always ordered porter house or prime rib but decided on the crab stuffed salmon and it was an enormous portion with fresh green beans and twice baked potato. My wife ordered South west chicken and that was a great flavor! Then Desert… chocolate fudge for her and the carrot cake to go of course. But we snuck a couple bites before departing. The old school background music paired nicely with the never changing decor which screams wonderful atmosphere. There is nothing place like The Pub!

We went as a party of 6 and 5 of us have never been! It EXCEEDED all of our expectations! Our incredible waitress Marci made the whole experience that much better! The food was amazing - delicious, large portions, and the prices, while high, reflected the portion sizes and quality of food. We tried snapper soup for the first time ever as Marci asked us to try it and we will for sure be getting a full serving of that on our next visit! The dessert was just chef’s kiss!! Death by chocolate cake, carrot cake, and crème brûlée cheesecake all were made to perfection!! And omg I can’t forget about the drinks!! I had a couple Caramel Apple martinis and mom had a chocolate martini! They came with a sidecar each and tasted incredible!! And finally, in true Philly sports fan fashion, we sang the Eagles Fight song in prep for today’s game! Go birds! 🦅 We can’t wait to go back to The Pub!!

I eat at the Pub once a week and I'm telling the Steak is every bit is good as those high dollar plates e.g. Ruth Chris, and Morton's. I'll take the pub any day.., it's a warm ambience, laid-back chilled and the service is awesome. Food is great.

Glenn K.

Google
The Pub advertised a $120 Tomahawk steak for TWO. It wasn't enough for one person! Maybe 12 ounces of steak, cut off the bone and pre sliced. Thats NOT how to serve a Tomahawk steak! My Ribeye arrived stone cold! Couldn't find my server to send my steak back to have it warmed up! 20 minutes later, our server arrived asking if we wanted dessert! My steak sat uneaten on my plate! We've been going to the Pub for 10 years for our Christmas dinner, this was the worst ever!

Have not been there in a long time went there for a special family event. The bar was great and just a beautiful place to sit down and have a drink, my Manhattan was the best, the martinis just out of sight great. The multiple lobster, shrimp and everything else was just great. It was for two people and it was more than enough and we took some home. My Prime Rib, the cattlemen, wel I hope to finish it sometime this week. It was that great and that big. Don't forget the twice baked potatoes. You will love them. Oh, the salad bar there are two. One on each side of the restaurant in the main area by the hearth where you see the coals burning . A quiet area in the bar also. You can still see the fire anywhere in the restaurant at the hearth. Everything you'd want in the salad bar. They even brought extra dressing for Caesar salad. The dressings are very good. The steaks are phenomenal. In fact I can't say enough. It's been awhile since I've been there for quite a few years and I should say that I'm sad that I didn't come more often. As a child in the fifties and 1960s. They had multiple restaurants, one Nice ball bearing Company, Two in center City and the original in Pennsauken NJ at airport circle. Back in the day there really was an airport. But that was before my time. It's has a style all it's own, just a great restaurant well-maintained clean easy to park and just an unbelievable dinner. And yes I did go to the salad bar twice and still didn't have everything. I can't say enough. Now my kids think it's great. I guess I've started another tradition. My grandparents took me there and my parents and now I'm doing the same.

Yelp
My husband & I & our 2 friends went to the Pub saturday night for the Prime Rib dinner. We Love the Pubs' Prime Rib. As usual it was delicious. We then ordered the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. It cost $17.00 but we decided to splurge. We were told its the Pub's best dessert. The chocolate cake came out it was very large, ice cold with about 3 inches of chocolate icing. The cake was So TERRIBLE. Cardboard would have tasted better. There were 4 of us sharing & none of us could eat the cake. I told the waitress that the cake was inedible but she didnt offer to bring us something else or take the charge off the bill. I was so disappointed. We normally love to go to the pub for a fun delicious evening. I do not think we will be going to the pub anytime soon. Sandy G

Yelp
What an OG blast from the past! The Pub was THE place to go in the 80's. Our family used to meet up for Mother Day, Father's Day, graduation celebrations and whenever we had company staying with us. I know they were closed down for a spell for a remodel. After about ten years since my last visit, I truly and thankfully didn't notice any(?) changes. Still the great humongous space with rustic decor, the great lounge, suits of armor statues, and their famous and extensive yummy salad bar! We came for a late lunch and were seated immediately! My daughter could not believe her eyes at the sheer size of the restaurant, that she referred to as a "bunker!" Our server, Renee, was so warm, personable and helpful. She added to our great overall experience! We started with the salad bar (duh!!!) . Amazing Caesar for me; I added a slice of self serve fresh Monterey Jack to it and Thousand Island, which is my favorite dressing. So darn good! My daughter went buck wild with a little bit of everything lol! I loved seeing her experience a slice of my fond memories! I had a crab cake sandwich, that was absolutely perfect and big. The best Ive had in ages! My girl got a half rack of ribs and a twice baked potato. She flipped for both! We were both in heaven! Dessert was a shared "slab" of pumpkin bread pudding with icecream (only $8). This thing was magnificent and sooo good! We took the majority of it home. Although The Pub is only 20 minutes away, the traffic getting there is a bit of a pain but we're definitely going back and back and back! Maybe even as early as Christmas Eve. To me, The Pub is a New Jersey staple and MUST!!!

Yelp
Our first time at the Pub in years and it surpassed expectations satisfying the whole family! Each year for Christmas I try to pick a different restaurant to buy gift cards to for everyone so we can all enjoy a night out together. Last year's Christmas featured gift cards to The Pub, and we finally got around to picking a date and making reservations. We made 6pm reservations for 7 people on a Saturday night. We were seated promptly upon arrival just before 6pm. The restaurant was very busy. Even with all the guests dining in, the salad bar line was never long and moved quickly. While there weren't nearly as many options at the salad bar as Library II, everything they offered was fresh and there was still plenty to choose from. The marinated mushrooms were a big hit at the table, and we also really enjoyed the corn bread and zucchini bread. Unfortunately they stopped replenishing the trays of bread at the salad bar about 1/2 way through our meal. The dining area is huge and wide open with really high ceilings. It almost has a retro-type feel inside (not in a bad way), and the bar looks like a place I would enjoy to relax and have a martini. I appreciate how the grills are open and visible from the tables. Our server, Anthony, was fantastic. Attentive, sincere, personable, confident just to name a few traits he exhibited throughout the night. All the girls at our table ordered classic Espresso Martinis (martinis were served with an extra rocks glass on the side!) and were made with shots of Nespresso. My wife said hers was very good. I ordered a Pilsner by Double Nickel Brewing made for The Pub. We also had a Margarita and an Orange Crush which were just so-so (we spend a week in Ocean City, Maryland every summer, home of the Orange Crush so maybe we're a little partial and particular with our Crushes). The dinner portions were mind-blowing. Five of us ordered prime rib, myself included. Even after all of the pictures I looked at prior to arriving for dinner, no picture does this prime rib justice. Hands down the biggest steak I've ever ordered and it was cooked to perfection. My mom, dad, and I all got 2nd dinners out of our prime ribs. My wife ordered a filet mignon (tender with a beautiful sear!) and my aunt got crab cakes (huge just like the prime rib!). From the sounds of it everyone really enjoyed their dinners. I have to admit I was a little nervous the day leading up to our reservations. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect and didn't want dinner / my gift to disappoint anyone. I'd say we all enjoyed ourselves and our meals. We do have a nice little hike to get back to Pennsauken from where we live so I'm not sure when we'll be back again, but I surely wouldn't hesitate to enjoy another great prime rib from The Pub.

Yelp
One of the best fresh salad bars and seafood platters around. I had so much food, I took home enough for 2 more meals. Excellent service and the atmosphere hasn't changed in over 50 years.

Yelp
I have lived in South Jersey all my life, but I have never been to The Pub. I have passed the Pub countless times during my commute to Rutgers Camden or frequent trips to Philadelphia. The Pub is definitely a throwback to times gone by. I really like their 50's style logo. The place is a bit Tutor castle themed and it is huge! It's almost like eating at Disney World. The salad bar was pretty cool and something you don't see that much of anymore. The Caesar salad was good and so was the cornbread. Our party of four ordered the following; Burgundy Street Sirloin (2) Filet Mignon Steakabob Fresh Grilled Salmon All three of these dishes were cooked over their famous charcoal hearth. The kebab was really good and wasn't overcooked. Our sirloin steaks were also very good and medium as we asked and had that nice charcoal taste. They were also huge! The salmon was moist and had a crunchy exterior. Our server was great all night, very attentive and very pleasant. The food came out quickly and was served warm in the unique fashion. We had four entress and the total price was around $148. Not cheap, but not expensive either for the quality of food and the size of the portions. We didn't order from the bar. We all left happy and very full. The Pub was indeed a fun time. I am glad I finally had a chance to try this iconic restaurant. I definitely would come back when I get the craving for a big slab of meat in an old school steakhouse that looks like a castle. 3.5-4 Yelp stars

Yelp
I wish half stars were a thing because the Pub deserves 3.5 stars. Before dining here you MUST understand you're going back in time. From the old arcade machines in the foyer, to the music and decor, you're entering a Time Machine. My dining partner and I started with cocktails. I got the Pub Pear and he got the orange crush. The pub pear was described as having absolute pear, st germain elderflower liqueur, and Prosecco. All I tasted was straight up vodka. It was the strongest drink I've had in a long time and I couldn't enjoy it. My bff said the same. That it was too strong to enjoy. The bread arrived hot with little foil packets of butter. If the pub would like to elevate the dining experience, whipped butter or butter with sea salt flakes on top in a little dish would take this experience up a notch. The salad bar is one of my most fave parts of the Pub. It's hard to find salad bars these days like the type that was so popular 20 years ago, but the Pub nails it. They even have banana bread and corn bread ( and possibly zucchini bread) available if you're not into the crusty bread served at the table. For my entree I opted for the carpet bagger, since I never ordered it before but heard so much. It's 9 oz of filet mignon topped with a crispy broiled crab cake, served with your choice of potato, green beans, bernaise sauce, and an onion ring. I really love how the steak is brought to the table on a hot grill-like apparatus. My bff did the ribeye and the au jus was poured right in front of us onto his steak. For dessert we HAD to do the chocolate cake. I remembered it being warm before but this cake was ice cold. The cake itself was a little dry since it was cold, but the fudge in between each layer made it all worth it. We ended up bringing more than half home. While we were dining the servers were vacuuming under the tables around us. I appreciate their attention to keeping the restaurant clean, but the Pub is definitely not getting any Michelin stars. As long as you know this going in, I think you'll enjoy your experience.

Michael J.

Yelp
Ordered the 9oz filet, it came beyond well done, to the point the waitress could see how bad it was. She then asked for it to be remade, only for it to come raw. For a $55 steak at a place known for steaks I am beyond disappointed. My waitress upset herself by how raw it was when they said it was done the second time came back and informed me they removed it from my bill only to bring the check to find instead I was charged for a salad bar which Caesar salad was horrible and all mush. My waitress was very attentive and handled everything to the best of her abilities. My rating is for the food and management responses to clear mistakes by the cooks. I recommend everyone chose a different place to eat.

Yelp
The Pub was a fun environment from start to finish. The exterior is decorated in a medieval style, and the inside has stained glass and wood detailing to match. Steak seemed to be the popular choice for our group (most of us ordered filets and ribeyes), and The Pub did not disappoint. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The majority of the party also opted for the twice-baked potato, and it was a savory and salty dream. We also loved the fresh cheeses on the salad bar. Our only complaint was that our appetizer (the fried mushrooms) were brought out at the same time as our entrées, but overall, we had a great time at The Pub.

Patti A.

Yelp
Excellent salad bar with many choices, cheese and bread. Did not appreciate being charged $3 for the fresh baked loaf of bread that used to come with your meal. The food isn't cheap so include at least one.loaf. No water refills were offered. Shiskabob was tough. Crabcakes were huge but not to my liking.

Yelp
When God blesses you with the opportunity to have an incredible meal with friends, you will be best served bringing them to the pub where you are guaranteed the most incredible meal that you could find anywhere in the Delaware valley. Most people are not aware that the pub is the only restaurant in the state of New Jersey exempt from a smoking ban due to their powerful ventilation systems. From all of the stakes being expertly prepared. There are no bad choices on the menu. Everything is top notch and will add to the most incredible dining experience you could ever ask for. I highly encourage you to grab family friends and come on down and enjoy!

Melanie R.

Yelp
Oh man!! Heard about this place and had to try! Heard it's been around forever. It's like walking into the medieval times. At first i was like, is this a castle lol. Anyways, came for the steak and drinks and this place surely did not disappoint! Started off with some martinis, and my they did not skimp on the alcohol or the amount! It basically came in the martini glass and another glass of what else was left from the bartender making it :-) There is a salad buffet that was included with all the dinners. Beware, you will probably fill up with just the salad bar alone! I got the filet Mignon and was cooked to perfection! Nice chat to it and good seasoning! Did not need to add anything to it! Portions were huge for everything. I will definitely come back! They've got many options for everyone!

E L.

Yelp
Now charging for bread at the table for $3.00. Could maybe understand fee for a 2nd loaf for the table.

Yelp
The Pub is another restaurant that I've literally been going to for my entire life. It's been a part of my family tradition that started with my pop-pop since 1950's. We've been here to celebrate birthdays, graduations, or hold special gatherings and The Pub has always taken great care of us. It's a great retro steakhouse that's known for firing up charcoal-grilled steaks and other meats from an open hearth in a castle-like atmosphere. Despite being temporarily closed this past summer for renovations and repairs, The Pub continues to be landmark for the greater Delaware Valley area. Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 5/5 Recommended dishes All You Can Eat Salad Bar, Soup, Pub Salad & Relish Bar Recommendation for vegetarians Would not recommend Vegetarian offerings Clearly labeled vegetarian dishes Vegetarian options I would not recommend this place for vegetarians. They have a very limited vegetarian selection as it is a steakhouse. Dishes that are vegetarian are clearly labeled. Dietary restrictions They will do their best to custom any meal to accommodate for any dietary restrictions Parking space Plenty of parking Parking options Free parking lot Parking Plenty of parking in free parking lot Kid-friendliness Wheelchair accessibility

Yelp
I was there with friends for dinner and was Very Surprised that you had a $3.00 fee for a loaf of bread I've been dinning here for 50 years having Birthday parties, Anniversary Dinner, Lunch this is my go too Restaurant I tell everyone when they ask me about a nice place to eat The Pub is my answer it's not the $3.00 our tap was $232 it's the Principal

Yelp
I called them to reserve a table for 21 people for my Mother's 91 birthday. They said the would. The day of which was Sunday my daughter looked at their Facebook where she saw they were closed because of inclement weather. We didn't get any phone call from them. I called and they said because it could snow. My reservation was for 2pm. The snow came at 7pm. They could have opened for lunch and closed at 6pm or at least have the courtesy of calling me: last minute I had to find another steakhouse that was open in the Cherry Hill area that took us. They won and the Pub lost: I will not go back there again.

Roxanne P.

Yelp
Way overpriced. Don't even bother with the stale, cold popovers. All you can eat salad bar is straight out of 1978, which is fine if you like three bean salad, coleslaw etc straight out of a can.
google avatar

Marc M.

Yelp
I love their steaks and the unlimited salad bar. The service is prompt and polite. The entire inside of the restaurant reminds me of an ancient pub from the Middle Ages.

Evette D.

Yelp
The Pub was almost full after an Eagles game but our service was good and speedy. My party chose different entrees so here goes: Salad bar didn't disappoint but the prime rib, ordered medium rare was extremely dry and so were the ribs. Pork chops and fish were good. The room was extremely loud and there were 3 episodes of dropped platters which startled us. For the price, while there was a lot of food, its taste was mediocre.

Yelp
I have not been here in at least 30 years. It has not changed at all in all that time. It has a bit trippy and definitely nostalgic interior. It is one of those places that really cannot change. Our family celebrated a birthday 3pm Sunday 6.11.23. We were a party of ten. Our server was great. Entrees ordered (some of us ordered the same thing) - Cattleman's Cut Prime Rib, Southwest Chicken, Half Rack Of Ribs, Baked Crab Baltimore, Burgundy Street Sirloin, Baked Jumbo Shrimp & Scallops, and Baked Flounder. The Prime Rib was massive. My Crab Baltimore was exactly as advertised- all huge lump high quality crab. It was a big portion especially considering the price. There was no complaints uttered about the food. I won't be returning anytime soon since I live 50 minutes away. It is a shame to read some of these reviews regarding management's handling of issues as they arise. They seem to have a pattern of cutting their nose to spite their face.

Laurie V.

Yelp
The good: The bar and drinks were on point! Pricey, but well poured! 4* Our server (Jennifer) delightful! 4* The salad bar was perfect for me! I Love a good salad bar! 4* Atmosphere was pleasant enough. The dining room is HUUUGE!! The Mediocre: Apps & Dinners- We ordered for our appetizer, the (seafood tower dinner for 5ppl) so that we could all enjoy some seafood. From the stuffed clams to the lobster tails, the taste was Bland, salty, microwaved. Nothing exciting or screaming "fresh" about the seafood. The dinners were more of same, bland & boring. steaks, filet, surf/turf. Every plate was drenched in Au jus, which is fine for a prime rib, but not for my NY Strip. Even the twice baked potatoes were thrice baked, dryyyy! The Ladies room could use a power washer! Old, outdated. I would not recommend to friends due to the price vs. quality. I would recommend to a family with kids to feed.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
The entrees are overpriced, not good, and extremely large portions. The salad bar is the only worthwhile food you'll eat at the pub, and The Pub is home to perhaps the worst cheeseburger I've ever eaten, inclusive of fast food. What makes this a 5 star establishment is the level of surreal you'll experience when dining here. The Pub bills itself as a medieval steakhouse, there are no larping performers dueling, or maidens dressed in Game of Thrones costumes, but somehow, I get it, the vibe they were trying to go for when this place opened many years ago. And it has not changed much. Perhaps the most major change was at some point, which they advertise on their signage, they had big screen TV's. Those are gone in the massive dining area with approximately 100 tables. But there's plenty more to watch that's way better than television anyway. The lighting consists of enormous overhead fixtures with flickering electric candles, offering an almost out of body experience as your senses adjust to this place. You'll see servers pushing carts of food to tables and a half open kitchen with bbq pits where the subpar steaks are cooked to mediocrity. I am not giving this place five stars in jest, earnestly, The Pub is an experience not to be missed. Perhaps book ahead for your birthday and bring a party of ten and enjoy a complimentary birthday cake.

Yelp
Absolutely NOT!!!!!! My fiance and I tried to eat here last summer. It was my idea. A colleague of mine loved this place and he usually had good judgment about the best cafes, bistros and restaurants. He talked about how good the food was all the time, so when I moved back to NJ, I decided to try it out. The first thing we noticed as soon as we walked into the restaurant was the strong, moldy smell. I am allergic to mold, so my lungs reacted immediately. Nevertheless, we sat down and looked over our menus from our friendly waitress. I really tried, but I simply couldn't ignore the stench. I couldn't smell any food...just that rotten mold. There was no way I'd be able to enjoy a meal there. So, we left. I heard they're remodeling soon. Maybe after the renovation we'll try again.

Damian R.

Yelp
This is a Timeless establishment that just does not fail. We went there for a belated birthday dinner and everything was outstanding. Our server was great. The salad bar was great the 12 ounce filet mignon cooked medium rare was perfect and the crème brûlée cheesecake was the perfect way to finish a phenomenal dinner. I hope that The Pub remains open forever.

Har F.

Yelp
A fun, huge place with great service and excellent food. Good selection both food and drink. Salad bar is also excellent. Don't let the size fool you make a reservation.
google avatar

Pretty G.

Yelp
Overall, the Pub was just okay. It is pretty dim inside, and the leather seating was cracked. Let me get this outta the way: the chocolate birthday cake I ordered was trash. It was dry as the desert, and the icing was hard and just yuck. The bread they serviced before the meal was crummy...crumbs all over the place. We asked for napkins to sweep up the crumbs and the waiter just plops the plate of food over the crumbs and says "this will cover it." I had filet mignon kabobs and the meat was tough! Didn't waste money on any drinks for myself. I may try the place again. It's a little expensive not to be satisfied.

Yelp
They are really a very poor operation. They don't care about quality or service and it shows. They've dramatically increased their prices so my guess is that they want to take as much money as possible from people with good memories of The Pub in the past, like me,.before it inevitably closes. Really bad food and laughingly horrible service, but also high prices, so a breathtakingly bad value overall.

Dennis S.

Yelp
Been going here 40 years. It apparently is under new owners I went on 6/29 and my opinion soup tasted like dishwater,my Texas ribeye was burnt beyond recognition.Bread, like corn , zucchini was so stale, cheesecake was worst ever.Thank you new owners for ruining a famous place

Yelp
We had Father's Day dinner there. It was busy but we had 6:30 reservations for a party of 8. They gave us a half hour wait time. We checked in at the 30 minute mark, we told them we had a reservation. They gave us some round about excuse and said we would be seated next. 30 minutes later, a full hour after we arrived, we were seated. (Why offer reservations?) We couldn't say much about the food other than the portions of meat were large, but bland. I got the fried shrimp, too much breading, only a small portion of coleslaw, and the steak fries were ok. Salad bar was not impressive and a bit awkward to get around. Place was crowded and noisy. One of the game machines were broken and the men's restroom was out of order. Decor is kitschy but dated. Waitress was good and responsive. She quickly took out orders and got us water and bread. She replaced the French onion soup for my nephew after we found it had sesame seeds in it from the bread, he's allergic. All in all, don't bother with a reservation- they don't know how to handle it on busy nights, expensive for mediocre food. Waitstaff were good.

George S.

Yelp
For the first time in 30 years, the food at The Pub did not meet the expectations that have been consistently upheld. Both my wife and I ordered steaks, but they lacked any flavor whatsoever. The juice poured on top didn't have a pleasant taste either. To add to our disappointment, the bread served was dry and not warm. It's surprising, given that the food at The Pub has always been reliably good for so long. Service was great.

Yelp
Third trip this year to the Pub, but this time was to take my 84 year old neighbor and friend out for her Birthday dinner. I decided on the Pub because I bid not want to miss the biggest rival Football game between Dallas and Eagles that came on at 4:30 Sunday. I live in Collingswood NJ, surrounded by some of the best and most written up restaurants in New Jersey , so why the Pub you ask. All these fancy restaurants do not open until between 4PM and 5 PM, but the good old reliable Pub opens with a full menu and salad bar at 1PM. Service is great, food is good and menu selection is great, along with reasonable prices. Plenty of parking and always friendly staff, along with a very interesting decor and ambiance, so yes to an enjoyable evening with my friend.

Yelp
It's been a long while since I've been here and my husband and I decided to go at 4 o'clock on a Thurs for happy hour. We ate at the bar and I have to say the prime rib sandwich was absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Our bartender Frank was AWESOME!!!!!! VERY ATTENTIVE!! AND FRIENDLY :) We will DEFINITELY be back for dinner. Thank you so much for a nice afternoon out See you all soon

Yelp
We were 9 people. 5 of us had meat that was undercooked. Cold and raw in the middle. Sending it back to be cooked further didn't do much. The flounder was not fresh. The service was ok. The waitress did not come back to check on our food so we had to find her. Hadn't been there for years and I'm sorry to say we won't be going back. It doesn't look like anyone responds to these reviews so I don't expect anything to improve.

Yelp
We had reservations for Thanksgiving Dinner for eight at 4:00PM. We arrived at 3:45 and was told there would be a 1 hour wait. They did not accept our name or check for our reservation. Went back to the desk, 30 minutes later, to ask how much longer, was told 1 hour again. went back to the desk 30 minutes later and was told there were 6 ahead of us. Short story, they don't care about customers who make reservations. Since they have no respect for those who make reservations we will, NEVER GO TO THEPUB AGAIN.

Yelp
How do you cook a steak and it comes out cold? They have no idea what good food is. Service was poor, we sent one of the meals back because it wasn't cooked, seriously it was cold! But in reality all of it should have been sent back. After that the waitress came back only to deliver the check. Never asked if the second order was ok. It wasn't. The huge dining area is noisy. The carpet is worn out to the concrete by the salad bar. The only thing keeping this place open is a nostalgia for the days when it was a good place for dinner. Nothing old about the prices. They could be considered expensive if the meal was good, but outrageous expensive for the quality and preparation they are serving.

Yelp
Okay let's be serious, I've heard people rant and rave about the Pub since F O R E V E R, and I frequent the thrift store right next door, but never have I ever been. Okay okay, not totally true. I've been once when I was like 3 years old for a rehearsal dinner, but I legitimately remember nothing about the experience. BUT LET ME TELL YOU. YALLLLLLLLLLL. HOW HAVE I BEEN SLEEPING ON THE PUB ALL OF MY ADULT LIFE?? This place is literally like Game of Thrones (sans red wedding) meets Medieval Times, and right across the bridge!! I kid you not, we walked in and my jaw dropped. The experience alone was cool as can be, I'm literally still in shock. Everyone needs to come here at least once. What a dang experience y'all. Okay so let's get to the food. The menu was crazy decorated in theme with awesome illustrations and gave me the vibe of the Cheesecake Factory with a plethora of options if you know what I mean. The entrees come with their famous salads bar (NGL I felt a weird rush and simultaneous fear to be using communal utensils at a salad bar again, but I guess things have to get back to normal sometimes). The entree were huge, and TBH all pretty dang pricey, but you could totally make two meals out of it. Food was okay. Salad bar was great, but that may or may not have been related to me feeling like I was breaking the rules post lockdown from COVID. Overall I really think you'd be coming here for the experience moreso than the food. Food was just okay, and pretty pricey to boot. I mean, I personally got the Deep Fried scallops that came with only 6 scallops and a baked potato. No fries. And everyone had the option of a baked potato. No veggie or anything for $31.00, kindaaaaaaa steeep if you ask me. Anywho, I'd totally go back, just make sure to bring a bunch of cash cash money with you to pay that big bill you're gonna get.

Yelp
Joanne was a great server for us. I've actually never experienced bad service here. Love their salad bar. Steaks are the way to go which includes the salad bar and a potato choice. You're probably best off with a baked potato. Mashed was bland and dry and the twice baked is toooo over done. I've had the filet, the prime rib, and seafood from here. All great and tasty with a good portion size. Atmosphere is kind of dark and like 17th century English Tudor. What makes it unique is the style of cooking and service. You will not find open brick ovens anywhere else. If you e never been - it's an experience you should try. $$$

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while and ended up here tonight on whim. It's still the same. This place was packed and going strong at 7:45. This was the first time I was disappointed. The food just tasted so bland. I don't even think they use salt & pepper. The prices are so high, yes they are comparable to other places and things are expensive these days. But when I'm paying $54 for a filet and you run out of onion rings, it's unacceptable. Yes they only put one onion ring on top of your steak, but I really missed it. Also, $16 for a cocktail is crazy. At that price, I want it perfect, which it was not. This place used to be great, but I think tonight was my last time.

Yelp
Service was great. Steaks were overcooked by a mile. Best part of meal was the pub pilsner and the dessert. 3 of us had steaks that were awful. I had to send mine back. Was much better before, no one in my party of 6 will be back.

Yelp
The Pub has been an establishment that has been around for many generations! I think it's time to put the 'ol girl' down and out of her misery! Seriously! This was a group trip for a dear friend whose mother has passed on..but she has fond memories of dining here with her..so there was no way outta this situation...right? I haven't been at The Pub for years..but I see not a darn thing has changed! Geez it's like I stepped into a time machine..but no cool things happened?! The food was bland..overcooked and overpriced! Understandably it was a Mother's Day crowd,.but some of the waitstaff appeared to be called out of retirement to help out...not a great decision! Most encounters with waitstaff was confusing and resulted in longer wait times if there was any adjustments or additional requests! From the crowds of folks in the restaurant and waiting to get in upon leaving..The Pub have their fans and I guess this is why they are still around! The Pub doesn't need to worry about me darkening their doorway again...In a nod to my southern mother (on this Mother's Day review) I'll use her quote when she is trying to be shady! 'Bless Their Hearts'....they trying!

Yelp
I like the atmosphere as the place was huge and super laid back. I got the 18oz boneless sirloin steak with double-baked oven potato and the 24oz prime porterhouse steak with mashed potatoes and string beans. The entrees also came with complimentary bread and an unlimited salad bar. My favorite was the sirloin streak. Both steaks were cooked to medium rare and medium, just how I liked it. The chocolate fudge dessert wasn't bad but it is pricey. Overall, the services and food were good.

Yelp
For the last few years, I have been dragging my group of friends over the bridge from Philadelphia to Pennsauken to celebrate my birthday at The Pub! I am a huge fan of the decor and retro feel of the restaurant, it makes you feel as though you've stepped back in time. The menu is large and really has an option for everyone depending on how big of an appetite you come with! We always come as a large party with 10-15 guests and the servers are on top of handling large parties! If you stop in around the holiday time the decor is so festive with snowflakes hanging from the ceiling and a large tree in the middle of the dining room. The salad bar is my favorite part of the experience with of ton of fun options such as a carrot salad! Do yourself a favor and stop on in for a good meal!

Yelp
We haven't been to the Pub in years- but yes it is still around. Still a blast from the past as it looks the same. Arrived a little after 5 on a Friday evening and had cocktails at the bar (we were a party of 6)There were not a lot of ppl there at that time Drinks were good ($14-15 for martinis) Seated for dinner a little after 530 (dining room not crowded). I had the prime rib which was very good and a good sized serving. My husband had filet with crab meat - also very good One person had the ribs but was a little disappointed as they were not falling off the bone and chewy. All in all everyone was pleased with their meal and the experience. Would definitely go back - but go early. By 6-630pm the dining room was almost filled and lines at the salad bar

Yelp
If I could've given it only a half a star I would have but one star is the lowest rating that you could possibly give this restaurant. It started off with walking in on a restaurant with a red rug as their floor coverings, which was dirty and disgusting from the jump. We then were seated and took a look at the menu finding out that it was a Valentine's Day special menu, which had pricing increases for the holiday. One of the guests that our table was there two weeks prior and pointed out to me that the same Steak last week that was $52 is now listed for $75. Not letting that ruin my evening I continued to order a ribeye steak, but upon receiving my dinner, it was not a ribeye. They gave me a cut of beef, which was a chuck steak trying to pass it off as a ribeye. When I complained to the waitress, she told me that was not the only complaint she received on the ribeye tonight. The steak was not even able to be eaten. It was so tough, and there was pieces of gristle in the steak that was uneditable. I told her to please remove it from the bill as you could see there was four pieces cut off the steak. She went to the manager/owner who then said they'll only take takeoff $20. I told her it was unacceptable so she had gone and approached the manager again and came back and said I'll remove the steak from the bill, but I have to charge you for the salad bar. Therefore, I still had to pay $16.95 for a meal that I could not even eat. I would not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy.

Yelp
Amazing steaks and prime rib. Huge portions. The salad bar and Ceaser salad are great. Comes with every dinner. Great service. Been going here since I was a little kid. Just celebrated my 45th here tonight with family and friends. Highly recommended for ribs, steaks and prime rib.

Yelp
Great food and good service. They have a fabulous salad bar. The loaf of bread is delicious. The atmosphere is so different and pleasant. It is always a pleasure to dine at the Pub.
