"The menu here was refreshed when the current kitchen came on board in 2022. To appreciate their vision in all its glory, opt for the 6-course seafood-heavy ‘Experience Menu’, or the 5-course lacto-vegetarian ‘Garden Menu’. Meat entrees and novel creations abound in à la carte menu; try l'oeuf de poule confit – Hokkaido sea urchin with confit egg yolk and potato risotto. The short wine list sees some good selections by the glass." - Michelin Inspector

How I Travel: Jonathan Adler Dreams of Getting Trapped in London’s Victoria & Albert Museum

"[Another] hotel I absolutely love, and it's been on my mind because of what's happening in Shanghai right now, is the PuLi Hotel in Shanghai. It's a really great hotel."

"This urban luxury resort in Shanghai has a polished, cool contemporary feel, mixing Eastern and Western sensibilities. Interiors lean toward dark tones and clean lines, with clever landscaping providing a sense of escape. Organic materials include liberal use of wood, stone, and marble. Large windows bring in natural light, and decor mixes contemporary with touches of traditional Chinese. Environmentally sensitive practices take multiple guises: Solar panels gather energy for hotel operation. The heatproof facade limits the need for air-conditioning. And sunshades in each room open and close automatically to let in or keep out the sun’s light and heat. Rooms also have dragon-scaled screens and cast bronze basins. Club rooms come with the perks of 24-hour check-in/check-out and butlers."

The PuLi Hotel and Spa

"A glass tower with fabulous city views and friendly service, the PuLi provides sanctuary from the chaos of downtown Shanghai, despite its construction-heavy JingAn district location. The look—quite like modern Shanghai—is sleek and contemporary, with subtle Chinese details: The striking 105-foot lobby doubles as the Long Bar, with glossy floors, shades-of-gray naive portraits by native artist Li Jing Bin, vases, and floor-to-ceiling light panels, and has an outdoor terrace. The 229 stylish rooms and suites are large—starting at 484 square feet—and well laid-out. The open-plan studio room has a wood-lattice screen separating the entrance hall from the main bedroom/living room, furnished with a sofa; a glass panel with Chinese silk divides the bedroom from the bathroom, which has a tub backed by a limestone-tiled wall in addition to a walk-in shower. The free minibar (including wine and mineral water in Club Floor rooms) is a welcome perk. An international crowd of creative types gather for dinner at PHÉNIX eatery & bar under Chef Pierrick Maire. Don't miss a stunning indoor infinity pool looking out over JingAn Park and treatments at UR SPA." - dan goodin

The PuLi (Shanghai, China) 41 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s the city of the future, Shanghai — lucky, then, that its hotels, as a class, have quickly joined the ranks of the best in the world. For a little evidence supporting that proposition one need look no further than the PuLi Hotel and Spa. Where one might expect another outpost of the established big-luxury chains, we find the flagship of a new group, the prosaically named Urban Resort Concepts — they’re saving the poetry, it seems, for the product itself." - Tablet Hotels

We had the most spectacular time at the PuLi Shanghai. The staff went above and beyond with their hospitality, helping us with every aspect of our trip. A special shout out to William the concierge and Camille the hotel guest relations manager who were so friendly and went out of their way to help us. The pool and gym are excellent which we enjoyed as a family. We specifically loved the fulsome equipment in the gym and the long, elegant pool to cool down from the August heat. Breakfast is delicious with Chinese and Western options and the rooms are spacious, comfortable, and make you feel at home. Ps. Excellent cookies in the lobby

Last month we stayed for seven nights at The PuLi. This was a private trip and we enjoyed it very much there. The hotel has a modern, minimalistic but very stylish design and you don’t feel like being in a pulsating city as Shanghai is; it’s kind of an urban oasis. The location opposite Jing’an Temple is very convenient with the subway just around the corner if you need it and many excellent restaurants in the various shopping malls nearby. The room we stayed in had a decent size, was clean, functional, quiet and provided all amenities one would expect from such class of hotel, but it showed signs of ageing. The bed was extremely comfortable and foam pillows were given upon request. Breakfast was served at their French restaurant Phénix; the buffet was rather small, but you can order from their menu with an extensive choice (btw the eggs bendict were fantatstic!). As everywhere in China, communication in English is somewhat difficult, but some of their staff at breakfast spoke some English; this was also the case at the reception and concierge. The service level was very high and attentive and kept us happy. The lobby with its long bar is really beautiful and unfortunately attracts a lot of female Chinese instagrammers for photo and video sessions, resulting in some grotesque and ridiculous scenes, no inhibitions at all. We observed such behaviour every night when we enjoyed our drinks after dinner; one of the managers at the bar was well aware of it and tried to keep it under control. For us it was kind of a nuisance but apparently people don’t care too much about it. Would I stay there again? Yes, I would, because the positive aspects outweigh by far the negative ones, and I would particularly recommend The PuLi to travelers who are not seeking traditional and conventional luxury.

Puli is like our home away from home. It always feels like returning home, when we are on vacation here, which makes it the best of both worlds. So happy with the service, accommodations, and friendly staff. We have been coming for over 10 years now and simply love it. The design of the hotel, landscaping, interior, and rooms is a big draw for our family who love its minimalist sophistication. The location also can't be beat.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I stayed at The PuLi Hotel and Spa for 10 days, and it was a truly world-class experience. 🌟 From the moment I arrived, everything radiated calm sophistication the scent, the design, the service. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Jing’an, with easy access to all the best spots in Shanghai. My room was elegant, quiet, and impeccably clean, with breathtaking views of the city skyline. Housekeeping was discreet and flawless. The spa? Sublime. The pool? A hidden oasis. 🌆💆‍♂️ Yes, there were a few very minor imperfections but what stood out most was how the staff went above and beyond every single time to ensure my stay remained perfect. Truly warm, attentive, and professional service. 👏 A genuine sanctuary in one of Asia’s most vibrant cities. Highly recommended for travelers who value luxury, serenity, and exceptional hospitality. I will definitely return. 🇨🇳✨

Puli is a beautiful and peaceful piece of art beyond my expectations. The hotel recipient Cici is very professional, warm, nice and helpful, one of the best I’ve ever met. Leo the concierge is also kind and patiently introduce me to the room. First time stay here but became my favorite Shanghai hotel. Will definitely come back!

Incredible hotel!! I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his birthday during our trip to Shanghai. Everything about the space, both communal and in the rooms themselves, is immaculately designed. I was blown away. Location is amazing as well, in the midst of amazing shopping & the jingan gardens, and just a few minutes walk from the French Concession.||Will definitely stay here again in my future trips to Shanghai
