"The menu here was refreshed when the current kitchen came on board in 2022. To appreciate their vision in all its glory, opt for the 6-course seafood-heavy ‘Experience Menu’, or the 5-course lacto-vegetarian ‘Garden Menu’. Meat entrees and novel creations abound in à la carte menu; try l'oeuf de poule confit – Hokkaido sea urchin with confit egg yolk and potato risotto. The short wine list sees some good selections by the glass." - Michelin Inspector

How I Travel: Jonathan Adler Dreams of Getting Trapped in London’s Victoria & Albert Museum

"[Another] hotel I absolutely love, and it's been on my mind because of what's happening in Shanghai right now, is the PuLi Hotel in Shanghai. It's a really great hotel."

"This urban luxury resort in Shanghai has a polished, cool contemporary feel, mixing Eastern and Western sensibilities. Interiors lean toward dark tones and clean lines, with clever landscaping providing a sense of escape. Organic materials include liberal use of wood, stone, and marble. Large windows bring in natural light, and decor mixes contemporary with touches of traditional Chinese. Environmentally sensitive practices take multiple guises: Solar panels gather energy for hotel operation. The heatproof facade limits the need for air-conditioning. And sunshades in each room open and close automatically to let in or keep out the sun’s light and heat. Rooms also have dragon-scaled screens and cast bronze basins. Club rooms come with the perks of 24-hour check-in/check-out and butlers."

The PuLi Hotel and Spa

"A glass tower with fabulous city views and friendly service, the PuLi provides sanctuary from the chaos of downtown Shanghai, despite its construction-heavy JingAn district location. The look—quite like modern Shanghai—is sleek and contemporary, with subtle Chinese details: The striking 105-foot lobby doubles as the Long Bar, with glossy floors, shades-of-gray naive portraits by native artist Li Jing Bin, vases, and floor-to-ceiling light panels, and has an outdoor terrace. The 229 stylish rooms and suites are large—starting at 484 square feet—and well laid-out. The open-plan studio room has a wood-lattice screen separating the entrance hall from the main bedroom/living room, furnished with a sofa; a glass panel with Chinese silk divides the bedroom from the bathroom, which has a tub backed by a limestone-tiled wall in addition to a walk-in shower. The free minibar (including wine and mineral water in Club Floor rooms) is a welcome perk. An international crowd of creative types gather for dinner at PHÉNIX eatery & bar under Chef Pierrick Maire. Don't miss a stunning indoor infinity pool looking out over JingAn Park and treatments at UR SPA." - dan goodin

I’ve stayed at Puli many times, and it never disappoints. The hotel’s serene atmosphere, elegant design, and consistently excellent service make every visit a pleasure. The rooms are always spotless and well-appointed, with a bed that guarantees a restful sleep. Jamie remains as attentive as ever, and Vicky’s warm hospitality adds to the seamless experience. No matter how many times I return, Puli continues to feel like a calm retreat in the heart of Shanghai. Looking forward to my next stay.

First-class experience, with great service. Excellent room, which was spacious, well designed and comfortable. Gym was small but well equipped. Similarly, breakfast buffet was small, though a good selection with options on the menu to order. A more personal experience than other more corporate hotels.

My experience at the Puli was disappointing. - although check in is 15:00, I could not check in until 16:00 - the pool was very cold. I read that it was heated, but it was too cold to swim and enjoy. - the sauna in the men's locker room wasn't working. It wasn't hot at all. - on the other hand, the steam room was incredibly hot, almost dangerously hot perhaps. - no toothbrush in room. The room is nice. The location is nice. But for the price (about 2,000 RMB a night) I don't think it's worth it at all.

This was my second stay at The Puli, and once again, it exceeded expectations. The atmosphere is serene and refined, a true escape from the city’s hustle. The room was immaculate, tastefully designed, and incredibly comfortable. Special thanks to Vicky and Cici for their warm and attentive service — they remembered my preferences and made everything feel seamless. It’s this consistency and quiet elegance that keeps bringing me back. Highly recommended for those who value calm, quality, and detail.

Every stay at Puli feels like a peaceful escape from the bustling city. The moment I stepped into the lobby, the soft lighting and elegant ambiance created a sense of tranquility, as if time had slowed down. Spring in Shanghai is truly delightful—the gentle breeze and warm sunlight filtering through the windows make everything feel effortlessly serene. The bed was perfectly comfortable, ensuring restful nights and rejuvenating mornings. Catherine’s thoughtful care and Jamie’s warm hospitality added a personal touch that made the experience even more special. No matter how fast the city evolves, Puli remains a timeless sanctuary. I’ll be back again.

Staying at The PuLi again was, as always, a fantastic experience – even after more than 40 visits. Everything is seamlessly arranged, and truly, nothing is ever too much to ask. Over the years I’ve stayed at several of Shanghai’s finest hotels – including The Mandarin Oriental, The Edition, The Ritz-Carlton, and The Middle House – yet The PuLi continues to feel like my true home in China.||It remains an oasis of calm in the heart of this vibrant city, blending understated luxury with a rare sense of serenity. I’m already looking forward to my next stay.||A special thank you to Camille, who looks after her guests with impeccable care and a touch of French flair – service at its very best.

It was a great stay. The hotel is well located nearby plenty of good eateries of walking distance, very clean and super professional. I would specifically like to commend William, who was the concierge on duty. He was fantastic at handling our numerous requests with the highest professionalism and efficiency. It was a great stay. The gym was also really well maintained - to use the swimming pool you’ll have to have a swimming cap. The gym and pool is on the third floor and the toilets there are a bit more advanced (automatic bidets) as compared to the ones in the room - this is a minor point and didn’t affect the wonderful stay but a potential point of improvement

From the moment I arrived, the warm welcome set the tone for an exceptional experience. Every detail of the boutique service was outstanding—attentive, personalized and above expectations. The staff anticipated my needs with genuine care, creating a comfortable and memorable atmosphere that made me feel valued throughout my visit
