Portland Restaurateur David Machado Will Close All of His Restaurants Permanently | Eater Portland

"Opened last September in the same Hotel Eastlund as Altabira, Pullman Wine Bar and Merchant drew Blazers fans and convention attendees but, like the other hotel-based concepts, is vulnerable to the tourism downturn and event cancellations; its layout and private rooms won't meet state guidelines, reopening would require increased labor while we expect revenue to fall 50–70%, and for those reasons I will be closing Pullman permanently." - Alex Frane

What an amazing night! The food was fabulous and the cocktails were nothing short of spectacular. We had a wonderful bartender Hannah, who was engaging and made the evening special with her food and drink pairings, suggestions and conversation. Looking forward to going back!

Google
Absolute gem, no, diamond, of a restaurant! Everything was fantastic from the moment we walked in. From the super friendly hosts to the beautifully designed spaces, my wife and I felt like they were there just waiting for us to show up and turn our evening into a whimsical journey. We sat in what we immediately declared the best seat in the house and began to indulge in the ambience, the menu, the decor; it basically turned into a love fest and we hadn't even ordered our drinks yet. Our server was amazing and perfect, as we're the drinks all the food, and the rest of our experience. The wagyu meatloaf and bone in short rib are rich and decadent and taste as every bit of phenomenal as they sound. To top it all off, the pastry chef even stopped by our table to highlight the desserts. This simultaneously made us feel like celebrities, while also feeling like we just met a celebrity, it was fantastic. The Pullman is without a doubt a new favorite, five stars baby!

The Pullman Restaurant was an amazing experience! The decor of the restaurant is top notch you can tell they did not cut any corners when remodeling. The bar area was my favorite part, I also loved the high ceilings. Bartender Mike was very knowledgeable and was able to whip up any cocktail we threw his way, using only fresh ingredients. We ate a bunch of apps at the bar which were creative, delicious, and perfect in portion size. We also tried the Crab-cake special that evening. No filler in the crab cakes, loaded with delicious crabmeat, classic rich flavors, I just can’t say enough good things about my experience at the Pullman Restaurant. Mike gave us some insight, that they will be launching a new menu soon, so we will be back to try some of the new offerings.

Google
The ambiance here is absolutely charming, definitely some of the best along the mainline! My coworkers and I love to gather for happy hour, and whether we sit indoors or outdoors, the aesthetics of this restaurant are simply amazing. While the food is decent, it's really the fantastic drinks and vibrant atmosphere that keep us coming back. The service could use a little improvement, but there's one lovely older lady, who I think might be the manager, who is super attentive. Overall, I really enjoy my time here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a fun outing! A bit of TLC in some areas would make it even better, but I'm looking forward to returning!

Google
Food and Drinks were delicious. Atmosphere was beautiful. They would have received a 5 star, but we were celebrating a birthday and despite the indication on the online reservation, the follow-up phone call conversation, and the in person when we arrived reminder. There was no candle for the birthday girl.

Stopped in randomly earlier in the week for just a quick drink and food while I waited for my train. I was greeted by the bartenders, both Mike and Andy, with a warm welcome. For my short time there, they treated me like I was royalty. Made sure my beer was full, made sure the food was good. The whole 9 yards. The meatloaf was amazing, cooked to perfection. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm waiting for a train ride back to Philly!

Google
The Pullman is the definition of a hidden gem. The food was absolutely phenomenal. Every dish felt like it was made with real care and attention to flavor. The service matched the quality of the food with attentive, friendly, and welcoming staff without ever being overbearing. On top of that, the atmosphere struck the perfect balance between cozy and elevated, making it just as good for a casual night out as it is for a special occasion. If you are in the area and want a place where everything from food to service to ambiance comes together seamlessly, The Pullman is an easy 5 out of 5.

Google
What can I say but WOW!! The restaurant is incredible. We visit many restaurants, this one is the top. The food was delicious, with quick service. The cocktails were spot on and balanced. If you are a cocktail drinker the difference is immediate. The Pullman has real bartenders that know their craft. The décor and attention to detail made the place feel so inviting. Now lets talk about the little things that are usually missed by most, the glassware is a pretty cut crystal not just plain, the cocktail napkins are whimsical. There was so many little details I wish I would have wrote them all down to share.

Yelp
We had a bizarrely mixed experience at the Pullman. The pretty decor implies fine dining, but when you look more closely you see scuff marks on the dirty floor, fingerprint smudges on the light fixtures, dust over the ledges, and dusty cheap candles from the dollar store. The food quality and prices were equally uneven. The very small portioned chicken dish (priced the same as the wagyu meatloaf) was dry and flavorless, and seemed as if it had been barely reheated in the microwave. The star of the meal was the meatloaf: perfectly seasoned with the most delicious, moist, and tender texture. But this dish was served with a very strange rubbery bacon covering some asparagus. The potato puree was very well executed, not gummy or over whipped, but silky and delicate. Strangely, the vegetables were also highlights: perfectly crisp grilled asparagus and Brussels sprouts. The most offensive dish of the evening was the dessert in the form of an apple crumb described as "flaky" and "buttery." I am not exaggerating when I say that this tasted like an Ikea cafeteria dessert that had been stuck in the display case for a month. Truly the most abominable, rubbery, dense, dry dessert I've ever had. I'm shocked they had the audacity to serve this. Service was mostly excellent, but we were confused as to why another table had the specials recited to them when we didn't. Perhaps this is decent place for happy hour, but I wouldn't recommend a full meal here.

Yelp
First and not our last visit! Excellent ambience, beautiful and elegant decor, very clean. The staff was courteous and efficient, they took extremely good care of our party. We started at the bar and enjoyed our delicious cocktails. Dinner and appetizers were very good.

Yelp
We came here at 5 on a Saturday and were pleasantly surprised to find it quite empty as we were attending with a baby. I had made a reservation to be safe but probably wasn't needed. Live music started at 6 and the singer was really good. Sounded just like America. I love the vibe here with the train car seating design right along side the paoli line which comes by every half hour or so which gives you the impression of dining in a fancy train car. We started off with cocktails of which they have a great variety of specialities. My wife and I both enjoyed the ahi tuna which was expertly covered in sesame seeds and very raw. My father enjoyed the sea bass which he said was buttery and wonderful. The morels in the dish were quite delicious. The Pullman has its own pastry chef so we went big on the dessert. The key lime was our favorite! The berry ricotta cake was delicious as well.

Yelp
The 5 star reviews are friends and family members of the owners. The train wreck at the Restaurant is many things, poor management, clueless of how to run a Restaurant, over priced food, dirty Restaurant and the fact of the short cuts they are using, marrying liquor and charging $$$ . Go see the train wreck at the train station Restaurant !

Yelp
The only thing good about this restaurant was how the food tasted. The menu is very limited. The service was not great and the restaurant was basically empty.

Yelp
Great food, memorable experience and the atmosphere was amazing. Our server Hannah was truly the best. We were here for parents weekend, and truly enjoyed the restaurant.

Yelp
I say maybe because my wife's food was good. And if it wasn't for my experience she'd go back. So make you decision based on my experience (and my issue is with what the chef said and he can't cook a steak evenly). It was less than desired. The mashed and spinach needed salt and there was none on the table. The steak can out overcooked and I sent it back. The chef told the server to let me know the half near the bone was medium rare (despite the other half was overcooked) as if the meat being half cooked right is acceptable on top of finding out the special was $68. I was floored that the chef implied half of it is good. DUDE half of it's bad and at $68 that's not acceptable and I'll NEVER go back. The 2 servers were AWESOME.

Yelp
Birthday dinner review for my mom! I had previously enjoyed dining in this location when it was Tango (https://www.yelp.com/biz/tango-bryn-mawr-2) and was sad to see it go despite curving upwards to 4 on a 3.5-star leaning. But the more I read about the live music, happy hour, brunch, and good dining vibe that The Pullman was offering, the more intrigued I was to give it a shot. While our dining experience was top-notch, I can only curve to 4 this time around because I have to take in that music, happy hour, and brunch before I can curve higher. The main dining room still has that great view of the incoming trains, and they really improved upon the bar & lounge interior which makes you visualize it as perfect happy hour and music-viewing spot. For drinks it was hard to pass up the refreshing Paper Train cocktail with Dad's Hat Rye whiskey, aperol, amaro, and lemon juice. I also appreciated the rotating mix of beers on draft and can which led to me finding a Keystone State of Mind collab brew between New Trail and Other Half. For food we first enjoyed the tuna nachos which was more of a tuna crudo served on a good-sized chip with all the fixings. For dinner, the pan-seared scallops with wild mushroom risotto were buttery perfection, and the lychee creme brulee added a bit of a fruity kick to a timeless classic. With it being a good bar spot to watch a game or take in a happy hour, a great dining destination, and a good spot for live tunes I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
My husband and I went to the Pullman the other night for drinks and food. Mike was our bartender, he was very friendly and so helpful with recommendations on cocktails and food. The service and food were amazing and we ended up having an awesome date night. We will definitely be back!

Austin S.

Yelp
Hosted an event there and had a wonderful time. Staff was attentive, the food was excellent, and the old school "train car vibes" were really fun. And the main bar was amazing!

Yelp
good food, pleasant service, comfortable atmosphere... Friendly place. we were in the area with friends for a weekend and Friday's dinner was so pleasant. We decided to repeat on Saturday night.

Yelp
Loved it again. Food, service and drinks all top of the line. Prices very reasonable for what you get. The train car is so charming. Fun seeing the trains actually pass right by the window. Manager Cheryl Boles could not be nicer, and server Julie Carbone is world class! We do miss Kristin Bailey, their magnificent former long-time pastry chef who is not there anymore. And the bar area is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. That area can get very noisy when the place is crowded and there is live music, but overall, Pullman is a superb restaurant. Highly recommended again!

Yelp
Waited 20 minutes for a drink after being told the drink we originally ordered (from the menu) was no longer available. Rude and dismissive. We'll never go back.

Yelp
We went to The Pullman with friends for our annual anniversary dinner last night at the recommendation from a Philadelphia Inquire review. Upon entering, it had a nice ambience with beautiful tiled floors, and we were seated in a comfortable booth. The waitress took her time getting to us, however she did apologize. Unfortunately, she continued to be very slow with service for the rest of the meal despite the fact, the restaurant was 75% empty. When we ordered a bottle of wine, we were told that it was not available and instead replacement would be provided to us. She pointed out the replacement on the menu, which was $10 cheaper, and we noted that that would be fine. We ordered some of the specialty appetizers, which were very tasty, including bread with spreads and deviled eggs. The grilled octopus appetizer was outstanding. Then came the main courses, which were very hit or miss. The strip steak was prepared as requested, perfectly rare. The scallop dish included only three medium size scallops served over a bland risotto. The Chilean Sea Bass was incredibly disappointing; it tasted fishy, was overcooked, and served over couscous with asparagus and mushrooms that failed to compliment the fish at all. The braised short rib was stringy and dry. Multiple times throughout the meal we were served food without any utensils, including dessert. The buttered pecan ice cream was fresh and creamy however low on nuts and flavor and a Key lime pie that was good but not great. When the bill came we saw we were charged $15 more for the wine, and we had ordered two bottles. When we questioned the price, the waitress told us that's how it rang up (although that is not the amount that was listed on the menu). The waitress said the menu was incorrect and we were actually served completely different bottle of wine then listed. We told her we should not be charged the higher price as we had not agreed to the price. She stood her ground and we urged her again to look into the cost as it was not what we agreed to. When she returned, she begrudgingly said they would remove the additional charges. Then her manager came out, confirming the additional charges had been removed, but neither one apologized and both made us feel that it was our fault not theirs for the miscommunication. For the prices, the Pullman is charging we would've expected a much better trained weight staff, excellent customer service, and better prepared food.

Yelp
The drinks were good here but we waited a while for the orders. You can tell from the photo how light the one picture was to how dark it got and we just did drinks and dessert. One thing that really threw us for a loop was when my husband got his drink there were actually lip marks on it as if it hadn't been washed thoroughly. We wiped it and tried to just not think about it since it's one of the few date nights we get since having a baby. We did order a key lime pie which might have been the best one we've had. The train passing was a cool feature. But the long wait even though it wasn't busy and the glass was enough to keep us from coming back.

Yelp
Don't bother with this place. It's heavily over priced, the food is a 6.5 out of 10. The staff is nice, however they are very slow. I have been here 5 times and I really wanted it to be good. Always hoping they would improve, but alas, it hasn't and in fact it's gotten worse. The #1 problem with this place is the chef. He doesn't care and it's obvious. I mean really..... who serves a pasta dish without a piece of bread? Who makes Wagu meatloaf and then over salts it like crazy? Who sends a piece of chilean sea bass out that is obviously bad? The chef, that's who. He is KILLING this business. This place could be epic if they did three things. #1 lose that chef, he was good at some point, but those days are over and he doesn't know the industry anymore. #2 lower the prices and we will all come in happily. #3 pay attention to the feedback you get from customers, we only want to help. If you ignore us, we will ignore you. Sadly I doubt this place will survive much longer. Which is a real shame because there is so much potential there, but the owners need to get their heads out of their asses and step it up. Here's some advice: Go to Ripplewood in Ardmore and see how they are running circles around you in every single way. Better food, better drinks, more affordable prices.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere because it's located in an old train station....though some items were off putting (the lamps and giant plants) The food was mediocre... we had tempura lobster...needed salt and additional sauce on the plate. I ordered scallops with sweet corn risotto with Calabrian chiles. The dish was under salted and lukewarm. The real conundrum was the ribeye special...48 dollars for a ribeye... just the steak...no sides at all. I was irritated that we were seated for 25 minutes before we got our drinks. That's literally a no-brainer. The upside was the hostess ...she comped a glass of wine because of the lukewarm dish. It was close to 200 for a mediocre meal.

Yelp
Came without a reservation with two friends for drinks. It was a Wednesday night and the place was essentially empty. No problem to be seated for drinks in the bar area. Inquired if we could also order food from there and the answer was yes. The bar area is lovely. Plush seating and really luxe decor. Seems like it could be a nice spot on a Saturday evening for a drink. We ordered drinks to start. They had two sparkling options by the glass. The waitress came back after I ordered to let me know they were out of my choice. I took their second option. There was a "bartender's choice". We asked what it was, our server didn't know. Friends ordered cocktails. No complaints. Waitstaff was friendly but junior (literally was not old enough to drink so couldn't really answer questions about the cocktails). She was decently attentive. I ordered mussels. They arrived in a rimmed bowl (~15). Of those, three were unopened and 2 tasted like absolute garbage. These things happen in a giant steamer pot, but if we're talking about 15 and 100% of them are visible on the serving plate, I think it's a problem. The sauce was delicious but it left me wondering if the seafood was fresh and if the kitchen knew what was going on. Friends had gnocchi, burrata and some salad/veg. No one seemed unhappy with their choices. I would probably go back for a drink, but I think I'll eat elsewhere.

Breanna G.

Yelp
The place was cute and the drinks were decent but unfortunately the experience was overshadowed by the host. She was extremely rude and made us feel uncomfortable from the moment we arrived. Her aggressive demeanor continued throughout our time there including watching us closely while we were at the bar. It created an unwelcoming atmosphere that took away from what could have been an enjoyable visit. With so many great spots in the area we would not return or recommend this one since no one wants to feel unwelcome just for showing up.
google avatar

Laura V.

Yelp
Really wanted to love this place but it's just missing the mark. They did a nice job with the decor and have live music on Saturday evenings which was nice. The drinks however- without a doubt the worst martini I've ever had. I asked for a dirty- not sure what was spritzed into the glass but it was not good. My husband ordered an ol fashioned. The bartender said they had a special maple bourbon one- it was small, not great and 20 dollars!!!! Come on now.... It wasn't even a fabulous bourbon and the bacon was fatty and gross. We didn't eat here but the menu has no flow... seems to be a mishmash of things. I really hope they can pick it up/change things around otherwise can't see this lasting very long.
google avatar

Jodi S.

Yelp
Service is terrible. There are very few vegetarian options on the menu. Food is just ok but not worth the wait and cost. Bartender told my husband they didn't have the beer he was asking for even though we could see it in the fridge. The only nice thing here is the ambiance. I miss the restaurant that was here before the Pullman.

Jude J.

Yelp
2 very small Manhattans with a fancy name and a very large ice cube in the middle, $36.00. A bowl of romaine lettuce with parmesan cheese sprinkles and croutons $12.00. $58.00 dollars for two meatloaf entrees, smeared with a sweet barbecue sauce (gravy?) and side of 5 barely cooked green beans wrapped in a pepper bacon, awful!! $10.00 for bread service?? Very expensive evening for our anniversary. Very pretentious menu, loud music, lousy food, smart ass chef!! I miss Tango, these guys have turned the whole place into a giant bar - nobody there! Maybe Tango will make a come back!!

Yelp
Tip top! Delicious food and a great vibe. Live music on Saturday pm is a great accompaniment to a fun dining experience.

Yelp
The best food and best service. I've never sat at a bar as friendly as The Pullman 10+ rating

Yelp
Just had a post movie dinner here! Beautifully designed restaurant with very friendly staff. Had the octopus & rage pasta & was very happy with both! Will definitely be back to try some of the other menu options!

Yelp
The place is beautifully decorated and the bar area was packed and it's very pretty as well. it seems to be a popular new spot for happy hour folks. The cons were that although there's a happy hour at the bar, the seating that was five feet away, no happy hour allowed. And the tables were all empty! I ordered the tuna which was to come with snow peas but I received a sautéed green something. Our waiter never apologized or gave me the heads up. Won't be returning until they get the kinks worked out.

Yelp
Extremely disappointing. Reservations are "strongly recommended" on website. We called several times 2 days in a row and no one ever picked up, or returned our 3 messages, so we ate somewhere else. The following week, we decided to walk in and try to sit at bar for drinks and apps. The bar was full, but they seated us at table in bar area. The waiter was condescending from the start and clearly looked unhappy to be waiting on us. We ordered martinis and asked for stuffed blue cheese olives. Our martinis came out with 3 in each glass. Our second round took unusually long and when served, the waiter said it took long because they had to stuff more olives. My drink now had one stuffed olive and my friend's had one regular olive, no blue cheese. We asked if he would bring more when they were ready. He just shrugged his shoulders. We ordered 3 dishes: oysters rockefeller, they were drowned in creamy spinach and the size of the tip of my pinky, ahi tuna entree that was completely dry and bland and a charcuterie board that was decent. We decided to order 2nd charcuterie board which never came. The waiter finally came by and dropped off a dessert menu. I told him we never received our 2nd board and he stared at me blankly. I told him we didn't need it. He said he did order, but didn't know what happened. I told him to forget the charcuterie board and to bring me a 3rd martini with the blue cheese olives and extra for my friend who never got any in her 2nd drink. The waiter returned with my drink which again had one stuffed olive and none for my friend and the charcuterie board which I had canceled. The 2nd board, unlike the 1st, did not have the toasted bread and the honey served with it now had Wasabi in it. The wasabi had to have been put in on accident because the 1st board did not have wasabi flavored honey and the table next to us orderd a charcuterie board as well and theirs did not have wasabi in the honey. We asked the waiter for the toasts that were supposed to come with our dish and my friend, now for the 3rd time, asked for a stuffed olive for her drink. The waiter, of course, just brought the bread. For some reason he did not want to give her this olive. I asked the waiter to just bring us our bill and while we were still drinking and eating our charcuterie board, he dropped off the bill and grabbed our dish which was still full of meat and cheese and walked off with it before we could stop him. We paid the bill and then asked to speak with the manager who was sent over. We explained that we were not looking to be comped, but wanted her to be aware of the inconsistency of the food and drinks, the apathy of the waiter and the fact that no one answered calls or messages at the reservation desk. We also mentioned that the surrounding tables had issues too. The man on one side of us was served a bloody and undercooked burger when he ordered medium well and the ladies on other side complained how the restaurant will only serve you bread and butter if you are in the dining room, but do not give you bread and butter in the bar area even though they, and us, ordered drinks, appetizers and entrees. The manager made multiple excuses and clearly did not care about our issues. We definitely will not step foot in there again, nor recommend the place to our clients. It's a shame because we are from a neighboring business and our co-workers and clients have been looking forward to this restaurant opening. We wanted a place for after work cocktails, dinner and even to host work parties. I gave this place one star for ambience and music. Everything else was very disappointing.

Yelp
We've been to happy hour (social hour) three times and every time has been very enjoyable. Lobster bites are great. I love the sliders. The drinks are good sized. All and all it's very good.

Rose F.

Yelp
Food was not as good as expected. Caesar salad had a vinegar / tart taste. Great service, and atmosphere.

Vince M.

Yelp
If the prices were more reasonable, I would give 4 stars. However, the food was just good when you factor in the high price. I expected a little more quality and quantity for the price. 3 stars. Service was good. Staff was friendly and professional. 4 stars. Ambience was the best part of the restaurant. 5 stars.

Yelp
I had heard very different reports about Pullman so I wasn't thrilled when my DIL suggested we try it along with my daughter, who was visiting from LA , and my granddaughter. not a good first impression when we were greeted at the door with live music that was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think, let along talk. But we were led to a quiet table in another room and settled in with menus and Mike as our server for the evening Since we were all drinking the same wine, Mike suggested we order a bottle as we'd save a few dollars. Our Caesar's salad was very good and not swimming in dressing and they weren't stingy with the anchovies for those of us that wanted them. Mike assured me the short rib of beef was fork tender ( it was) and served with pureed potatoes that could have used a little more seasoning. It came on a long bone and looked more like a veal chop. I asked for more gravy and it was delivered right away. My daughter, who travels the world for business, had the ahi tuna and was very impressed with the perfectly prepared fish as well as the presentation. My granddaughter had to send her filet special of the day back as it was cold and was concerned that it would be too well done when reheated. It wasn't and she said it was delicious. My DIL had the Chilean sea bass which she truly enjoyed. All good so far. We really weren't interested in dessert, but when told everything was made in house we had to look at the dessert offerings. I got two others to share the challah rain, white chocolate bread pudding and nearly swooned when I tasted it. I have never had a bread pudding that even came close to the one I had on Kangeroo Island off Australia, but this was as close to heaven as you can get. The other dessert was a lavender ice cream that everyone tasted and liked. (But nothing could compare to that bread pudding). We liked it so much we booked a private room for a December party.

Kim H.

Yelp
loved this place ! I would have rated it a 5 but couldn't see the Villanova game on the only TV . service was great and fabulous ambiance . servers were young . probably a bunch of Villanova students. the filet was outstanding ! I shall return on a warm day to experience the outdoor bar .

Yelp
Unlike other reviewers we sat at the bar and had a nice service experience. And I liked the ambiance...But, like other reviewers, I found the food very sub-par, especially for the price. I had to ask for salt and pepper (which I rarely do) just to make the risotto scallop dish not taste completely bland. The risotto was also watery, which is a unique issue given the fact that it's...risotto. The scallops were also watery. I'd say go elsewhere if you want to spend nearly $40 on an entree only to wish it had been seasoned.

Yelp
Kristin, the pastry chef, is definitely The Pullman's super power. Dinner was good but the CHEESECAKE was SUBLIME. One of our party got the key lime pie which they loved (I am not a particular fan of key lime). Kristin's cheesecake, however, was out of this world. The BEST I've ever had. If you love cheesecake you have to try hers. It was INCREDIBLE. Thanks Kristin for a memorable experience. We'll be back for more.

Yelp
The ambiance was lovely, though a bit too quiet on a Saturday night (perhaps busier in winter). The appetizer and main course was good, but the the dessert was disappointing (should end of on a high note, and I love dessert). But the main reason for my lower rating was that service was quite mediocre. For example, multiple times staff tried to clear plates while people were eating...and when two people got the filet and the appropriate thing would be to delineate on temp (e.g. medium vs medium rare) or some other difference (e.g. sides) they were served to the incorrect person at first (I caught it). It was $230 per couple. I'd recommend going elsewhere...

Yelp
Delicious food and drinks. The service is wonderful and attentive. Great place to watch the trains roll by and enjoy drinks on the patio! The desserts are made in house and make a great ending to the meal!

Yelp
We were excited to have The Pullman finally open. We've been fans of their happy hour for the great drinks and the happy hour menu. The poster bites and the burrata plate farewell done. But I ordered the short ribs and the plate was not up to standard; lacked flavor. I make slow cooked foods and can't imagine why the cook doesn't taste what is being served before sending it out. I hope that some consideration will be given to the reviews and that there will be a a significant improvement in the quality. If that happens they will have many repeat customers including us

Yelp
Absolutely terrible service! It's a shame because the atmosphere is gorgeous, the location is convenient and the food is (typically) above average. Very pricey, so we expect a pleasant experience. We would love to go there on a regular basis, but when we went last went for dinner, we realized that there was no wait-staff assigned to our table. We had to walk to the reception desk, multiple times and beg for water, bread, appetizers, condiments, etc.. Then for the finale we were informed, after we ordered, that our dessert was no longer available. We discovered that we had been charged for it on our bill! Really? My husband and I felt very stressed out, actually angry, and disliked (!) throughout our pricy dinner.

Yelp
As I sit here the morning after... I don't know where to start. We planned to meet friends and finally try this place out. Before we left, I'm reading about the cheeseburger food poisoning review and asking my wife... are you sure you want to go?? We arrive to a boisterous and musical atmosphere, the decor and bar look great. Then we find our booth and our friends. The booth was so comically small that we were all sitting with our arms on the table. I'm a normal sized person. Cheap airline seats are roomier than this. One look at the high menu prices and you think that this had better be excellent. My wife and I shared a caesar salad(plain) and burrata(bland), She had linguini with clams and not happy with it. I had fish and chips which was decent, but I've had much better F&C for half the price. The drinks are where it gets interesting. The girls ordered dirty martinis. One was dirty, the other crystal clear. I ordered, and will never forget it, a Mexican Firing Squad. Some tequila, some lime, sounds refreshing. The drink was bright red and had a slice of lime floating on it. We also each had a glass of wine. Total price: $400 (for four)not counting the tip. Ouch. After going back to our house and having one more drink... I'm sitting here wondering... oh man, I'm drunk, the room is spinning. But I only had three drinks in 5 hours! I stepped outside to get some fresh air and it hit me. I vomited my guts out in the yard. Not fish, not burrata, but BRIGHT RED tequila flavored vomit. Oh man did I feel better, and the room stopped spinning. Hey Pullman, kitchen prep 101, scrub your lemons and limes.

Yelp
Here's the negative journey that The Pullman put me through: My parents and I went in last Thursday, (December 29, 2022), excited to try Bryn Mawr's newest restaurant. Despite a few minor inconveniences that I'll spare details of (didn't receive one of our apps, only received 2 tuna nachos when it's supposed to come with 3, etc), the biggest problem was that my father ordered the cheeseburger with bacon for dinner. A few hours later he got extremely sick. Despite the flu going around, it was certainly not that - he was only sick until the food was out of his system, and then he was fine (an indicator that it is food poisoning). He is older and foodborne illness is detrimental to his health. I felt inclined to share this poor experience with the restaurant. I messaged their Instagram account, left a voicemail, and tried calling numerous times. Finally, I got ahold of someone on the phone tonight - asked to speak to the manager and explained our situation in a calm and professional manner. I was STUNNED at how the manager responded to my complaint: "Well, no one else complained about getting sick that night, the flu's going around". When I explained that it was NOT the flu, given the fact that my father was fine once the food left his system, the manager kept pushing that it had to be the flu, no one else had called about the food, etc." I couldn't believe this was how a manager of a new restaurant was handling the problem. "The only solution I can provide is to apologize and hope you come back." When I expressed how I felt as though he was gaslighting me, he just kept saying how it wasn't their food that made him sick. LOL are you kidding me. How cheap and stubborn can a restaurant be to just not own up to the problem and offer reimbursement, ANYTHING but give me a disingenuous, monotone apology. The Pullman has made no effort to do anything, so the only thing I can do now is to warn future customers.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor, DON'T try this restaurant. The food was horrible and expensive. The Oyster Rockefeller had some kind of Pesto liquid instead of spinach. A couple of the oyster shells had no oysters. The Filet was tough as leather and get this, they charge $5 for bread. The only good thing was the martini was very dry, needed for the bad and expensive bill. The service was on par with a Nifty Fifties. The Ambiance had possibilities if you're going for cozy but the menu, service, and ambiance did not connect. I really wanted to like this place because of the idea but I give this place a 2 out of 5.

Yelp
We have now tried this restaurant 3 times, each visit was different from the last. On our first visit we went for a drink and a few bar bites. The drinks were ok at best ~ different each time due to bartenders being inexperienced. The food was bland and boring. On the second visit we tried a few entrees- clams were not purged of their sand so it ended up in the pasta, and the steak was decent quality but lacked any flavor due to no seasoning ever meeting my steak, which would of been a good relationship. On our third visit we went for the music, unfortunately that was the best part. One of their main issues is their never ending replacement of bartenders their newest replacements being a batch of backups to the backups when someone calls out at the local dive bar (nothing against a good dive bar but not the experience they are looking for at the Pullman) On the visit our friends order a few simple items grilled octopus- definitely cooked and left in water to suck the flavor out of it or possible frozen, Caesar salad with wilted black lettuce nicely incorporated. Airline chicken that must of been related to a spirit airlines bargain connecting flight with six layovers that I wish I had burnt my mouth before eating the chicken so I would not have tasted it. The Pista to resistance was the chef coming out the yell at my waiter for ordering a steak 39 minutes before the kitchen was going to close. The chef started to belittle the waiter saying he has already cleaned the grill. Needless to say find another establishment to spend your evening.

Yelp
The food was awful, so bland and overly priced. The Cesar salad with chicken was just okay and the chicken was overly spiced. The chef quickly delivered it and slid it in the middle of our table and took off. The burger was so underwhelming and the cheese was not melted. The bread was hard. My friend got the yellowfin tuna. It was tasteless. The chocolate moose was awful. The bread pudding was actually very good. I am so sad that this Restaurant was just so bad. I really wanted to love it. The service was just okay...had to keep flagging him down. I will saw the restaurant itself was beautiful with a great ambiance. They need a better menu, and a better Chef.

Yelp
First off ... this is strictly on the bar scene. Haven't tried the food yet. We stopped in for a few drinks last night and were really impressed. The bar itself is beautiful, big and bright with a VERY cool train station retro vibe. Add to that a three piece jazz band and you have a great scene. The bar menu itself could use some tweaks and the bartenders still getting used to the new digs ... but ... this is definitely worth trying!
