15 Top Sports Bars in San Diego for Football Season - Eater San Diego

"This Normal Heights drinking den is also an excellent spot for sports-watching, thanks to its convivial atmosphere, inventive plates (think an amazing tortilla, wonton, and tater tot creation dubbed Abnormal Tot-Chos), and craft cocktails. There’s a weekday happy hour (5 to 7 p.m.) with $5 drafts, and $6 cocktails, plus Sunday brunch specials, including $5 Bloodys and $10 bottles of bubbles." - Keri Bridgwater

I’ve been to The Rabbit Hole a few times in the past and stopped by again during happy hour for beer and wine. The nachos were great and probably the highlight of the visit. The space is open with a fun and laid-back vibe, although it does get pretty loud. There are plenty of seating options, including both a front and back patio. Service was fine. It wasn’t exceptional, but there were no issues. Overall, it’s a solid spot for casual drinks and bar food.

Loved it! We got the chicharrones and garlic Parmesan wings to start, and the wings were some of our favorites that we’ve found in San Diego. The chicharrones were super fresh and delicious! Lots of drink options, the service was quick, and we were able to bring our dog on the front patio. For our meals, we got the chicken club and Caesar salad. Both were good, but will definitely just get more wings next time.

Google
Great food, once we got it! The bartender was super cool, good vibe at the place, but our short stint there was a little rushed, so when the kitchen took over 20 minutes to get an order out we had to take it to go. Otherwise, had a good time and enjoyed a slushy drink that was pretty good!! I'd go back. To the owner: a brisket taco (delish!!), a pretzel, and the elote dip (bangin'!!!). We ate in the car as I had to rush out - this was on 7/19, I believe.

The Rabbit Hole is a great sports bar to watch sporting events. We went there on a Sunday for lunch to watch some NFL games. The indoor & the outdoor areas are well designed and have comfortable seating. The outside patio has plenty of seating options to watch the games comfortably with your group. In addition, the Rabbit Hole has plenty of TVs showcasing all the different games to support your favorite team. They also have a nice fire pit in the middle of the back patio. The service was fast, several alcohol selections available and the food was very tasty, while affordable. Our favorites were the dry rub wings and the side salad. Overall this is a great place to go with friends to watch sports!

Google
Even tho the place was unusually busy, our server was very attentive and took time with us. The elote dip was incredible, the wings were very good (able to mix two sauces/rubs), and the gyro was ok (nothing to write home about in my opinion) Great selection of local beers and they have lots of space inside and a nice outdoor area. With the big open doors you can still enjoy the weather from the bar area. Will definitely be back!

Google
We stopped on a Sunday afternoon and easily found a good spot, straddling inside and out. First thing we noticed is that they had heaters ready over the outside seating, which is great this time of year. We mainly stopped for beers/drinks, but we also ordered elote dip with chips and that was delicious. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and the experience was fantastic. Stop by the Rabbit Hole if you’re in the area.

Google
We went here for our last day of school teacher get to get her. It was a nice atmosphere but when we arrived the bar tender was not very happy a bunch of people were showing up. He tried to make us all pay on one bill which was impossible as we had 30+ teacher come and go over a few hours. Other the the bar tender being rude, the place was great

Google
Chose it because of the cute name! It's a bar that has great food and probably would be an amazing place to have a few beers with friends. I was just there for a quick lunch with family, just as fun! We had the station wrap and the Mac and cheese, both yummy!

Yelp
On a Sunday at 12pm, it wasn't too busy. We were seated quickly. I came here with a group of 7 and a baby, and typically a bar isn't a place to bring a baby, but it wasn't too loud or rowdy. He was even able to sleep while we ate. They have a DJ who was awesome! I loved her selection of music. As for food, I ordered the chilaquiles, and it tasting bland is the reason I knocked down a star. My sister ordered one of the breakfast sandwiches and honestly wished I got one of those! I ordered a sweet georgia bee. It tasted like a (heavily) spiked lemonade. It was sour, sweet, but as someone who isn't fond of the taste of alcohol, the rum was very strong! That's on me though for not reading what's in it lol. Give this one a try if you're thinking about it! It comes with a pretty flower on top and makes a great photo! Service was okay. We ordered and got it within 15 minutes. The area surrounding it has many mom and pop shops to support too!

Yelp
Amazing food. Attentive service. Great vibe with the indoor/outdoor dining. Food was the best part!

Yelp
Last review in 2015?! Let's change that. The Rabbit Hole has been and still is my favorite bar in the neighborhood and is almost always my reason for heading to Normal Heights. Don't get me wrong, there are a more than a handful of great places within striking distance on Adams but this is the spot if you're looking for a bar with plenty of space to handle a crowd, good food, average prices that are not too high or too low, lots of TVs to watch sports, and a friendly team of servers that are attentive and quick to get orders out. Take a look at the themed days that they have as two of them have my attention. They do a weekly "pitch your friend" event for singles and also a live band karaoke on Fridays. Rabbit is lots of fun and a solid spot any way you slice it.

Yelp
We were hanging out in Normal Heights with a group of friends celebrating a birthday. The Rabbit Hole was our first gathering spot. Becky and I had heard good things about the place. It lived up to the hype. Upon walking in we were immediately impressed. The place is pretty damn huge. Booths lining the walls, four tops galore and a great front patio. The entire front of the building opens up with giant "garage door" roll-up doors. It was a beautiful San Diego Saturday, so we found a spot on the patio to accommodate all 10 of us. Service was bit slow at first, but there were just two women working the entire place and one was the bartender, so it was all up to Leya (not sure if I spelled her name correctly) to handle the rest. It was pretty busy too for 11:30 in the morning. After our initial wait and order, Leya was spot on. We were never left waiting. It was mostly just drinks for everyone, but Bex and I ordered wings for the group. We chose the Jalapeño Garlic Butter with sides of ranch and bleu cheese for dipping. WOW! Fantastic wings! Some of the best we've had anywhere. So flavorful with a great char on them and a nice heat from the Jalapeño. We loved that they were dry rubbed and not dripping with sauce. Jalapeño-y, garlicky goodness! We don't find ourselves in Normal Heights very often. I have a feeling that might change. See you at the Rabbit Hole! Dry-Rubbed Wings $14.00/6 wings$22.00/12 wings Our Semi-Famous Dry-Rubbed Wings. Choose from Jalapeño Garlic Butter, Lemon Pepper or Garlic Parmesan.

Yelp
First off, there is only street parking, so you may need to park down the street. Also, there are parking lots close by, but don't park there or you may get towed. The place has a good bar type vibe with high top seating throughout and some seating around a small fire pit outside. We were seated promptly and had our drink and food orders taken right away. We ordered various wings, the sweet corn elite and 5 cheese mac. The food came out pretty quickly and all of it tasted great. The lemon pepper dry rub wings are very lemony and peppery lol. The only issue we had, which wasn't really as issue, was we ordered the elote dip, which comes with tortilla chips, but what we got was a side of sweet corn elote, that doesn't come with chips. We asked about it and they were willing to give us chips and switch it out, but we elected to just stay with what we got. Make sure if you want one or the other, that you clarify because I can see how it gets confused. Other than the at, everything was great, the service, the food and the atmosphere. Even after we finished our group hung around to chat, and they were cool with that (the place wasn't full, so we weren't taking up tables). When I'm in the area again, I will definitely eat here. The servers were all so friendly and it's just an inviting place.

Yelp
I recently visited The Rabbit Hole for a friends birthday. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the food but it definitely looked delicious! They have a big selection of drinks, they're very pricey though! So keep that in mind. We went on a Friday so the had live music, and wow! The band was amazing!!! Make sure to bring earplugs if you're too sensitive to the loud noise because it gets pretty loud! The service was okay, as you may expect, they get pretty busy so they take a while sometimes. Overall a good place! I will definitely come back!

Yelp
Came for some food, drinks, and watch the basketball game with some friends. The Calamari and cheese curds seemed like small portions for their price. We joked at the table that they were European portions. The pretzel lived up to it's name. The food itself was ok, that's about it. As far as drinks everyone got beers and they were solid. Service was slow, but to be fair they were pretty slammed. Parking can be a bit of a pain for the area, but not impossible. I would only suggest this place for happy hour and that's about it.
google avatar

Jenna V.

Yelp
I came here for a Pitch-a-Friend event. I had the house margarita ($7 for taco Tuesday pricing) and a side of chips and salsa for 6 dollars. The margarita was pretty tasty. The chips seemed stale and there wasn't enough salsa provided. I would not order that again. Service was average. There is a lot of seating including indoor and outdoor. Overall, it was fine but I won't be back.

Yelp
Chuck Norris Themed Burger! I bought it, I loved it, I showed off my kicks in front of Chuck! Full bar, well decorated, clean, staff is quick enough, and I met a pretty woman who I asked out to an art exhibit and karaoke! I'll Be Back...

Yelp
Great happy hour deals! My cocktail was $7 and very tasty. I got the hummus tray which was super delicious and filling and my total with food and drink out to about $15 which is a great deal. Parking was a little hard to find since it's street parking. The ambiance was nice and it wasn't too busy. The service was a bit on the slower side but the servers were kind and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Googled "good food near me" and this place came up with several others, I was intrigued by the name so chose The Rabbit Hole. I got a GOAT salad and fried pickles. Both were huge portions and I couldn't finish either one. The fried pickles came with a few dipping sauces and the outside was nice and crispy even though I got it to go.... I may be guilty of snacking on them driving home though :) Salad was delicious! I love the combination of strawberries, cheese and nuts. Also saw some cocktails I'd like to try when I dine in.
google avatar

Cindie E.

Yelp
Didn't have food. Service was ok. The ambiance was not my vibe. It's overly loud. What's the point in hanging with friends if you can't hear each other talking.
google avatar

Yelp
Hot Chocolate 10/10. We went on a Tuesday and it I believe was their Christmas party? There was karaoke and it was alot of fun! People taking shots and partying/dancing on a Tuesday night was wild! I felt like I was in PB 20 years ago. This is not normally a place I would frequent but we had a good time! Also note the wall decor to the restroom had cool as sh** artwork on the walls.

Yelp
Trivia night is so fun! First time here and had a blast. Love how spacious it is and dog friendly. I can see why this place is frequented.

Yelp
My 50 year old friend didn't get in with an expired ID. She's literally 50. This is crazy. However, the server was great. Tim, not so much.

Taro K.

Yelp
Really good food and menu, but really loud and flat ambiance. Lots of TVs playing the same baseball game - and the TV commercials were super loud throughout the restaurant. They need to invest in a better music or entertainment system. Again, food was really good - we will go back but for take out only.
google avatar

Yelp
Mostly here for the drinks , live music and sports. Food can be hit or miss. Service is good.

Yelp
Decent spot with lots of seating and a front patio for dogs. Our server was nice and patient since our dog was hyper after seeing another dog at a table nearby. She gave us a pup cup in attempt to calm him down. The burger and fries were good. The tuna poke with wonton chips were also tasty and surprisingly huge (in the photos it looked tiny). The elote was just okay. Nice selection of beers.
google avatar

Yelp
Went about 7pm... it's was slow so was sat immimmediately. It was 4 of us. We ordered drinks and food. We got our drinks and food fast. The painkiller was great. I felt good leaving there. The burger was juicy.
google avatar

Yelp
Came across this place while looking for a lunch spot in the area. The jalapeño and garlic butter wings were delish and had great beer options to wash it down. Great place for brunch, catch a game or looking for a fun pub vibe.
google avatar

April B.

Yelp
Good ambience but that's about it. Food was terrible, service was terrible. server was nice but waited for ever for drinks, waited for ever to order, waited for ever to receive anything ordered, she even came back asking if we received items we ordered?? Um did you bring it to us? Lol prob won't be back. Oh and I wasn't even charged on my credit card what my bill reflected. Maybe they do that thing where gratuity is already sneakily added so that u tip even more? Not sure tho, couldn't even review my bill itemized to see if it was accurate. Hate leaving negative reviews but this was my experience (along with my friends opinions too)
google avatar

Wes V.

Yelp
The nachos here are from another world. So good! Chips, wonton chips, and tater tots covered in all the essentials. I added brisket to thicken my muffin top a bit and accomplished the mission. Great time with friends, all the football games were on, and it was a fun crowd.
google avatar

Haylee M.

Yelp
Husband got the Cubano Sandwich with a side salad instead of fries. He said the sandwich was nice but it could have been a little less salty. The pork was cooked well and the flavors went well together. Maybe some letters or more pickles would have made the sandwich better. The raspberry vinaigrette was very flavorful. He went with a friend who got the duck wings. He seemed to enjoy the wings.
google avatar

Yelp
Burnt 15 Dollar chicken wings should be a crime. I went in soo excited and left with wings I could barley eat. Got home and my 15 Dollar chicken wings looked like the pi s Below I will cook my own next time I do not recommend If you want is to pay 15 for 6 chicken wings. Please do not burn them and make them hard to eat. The carrot sticks tasted better. Sad customer..

Yelp
We stopped by for dinner and trivia on Wednesday. We got there early so no reservation required. They have acrally nice outdoor covered patio and back bar area where we were seated. The food was elevated bar food. I had the elite dip and the fried cheese curds. I especially enjoyed the basil ranch. My friends had the ahi tuna wrap with a side salad and a burger and fries. The side salad was huge. The fries were crispy in the outside and soft on the inside. But we did not like the sauce that came with the fries...it was sweet and a little too weird for our taste. We also enjoyed their beer selection. Only thing to truly improve in woukd be the service. Our waitress was super sweet, but also covering the whole back bar/patio area and only came by 3 times in a 3+hour period. We had to catch her to ask for silverware, more water, the bill. Overall it was a good experience and we will be back when we are in the area.
google avatar

Kendall O.

Yelp
I was greeted and told to sit in the back. I went back there and the place I was told to sit was reserved. We were forced to sit at the bar. We ordered cheese curds, sliders, two impossible burgers, and engine 18. It took an hour for them to get our food and they forgot a burger. Everything was brought out at the same time including appetizers. The cheese curds were an extremely small portion. The burger they forgot took an extra 30 minutes and we decided to take it to go. With this, the manager blamed our server when I clearly saw her put it in the system. Luckily, our burger was comped for their mistake. There's been other restaurants I've been too that are busier and have better service and quality. There is no excuse for this poor of service at the prices they charge. I don't blame the server, but this restaurant is poorly managed.

Yelp
Hop on down to The Rabbit Hole where you'll be lost in a furry frenzy of delightful signature cocktails and incredible twists on traditional bar food!
google avatar

Allyn P.

Yelp
Came here for some late night drinks and eats. I love that they do karaoke and have a great variety at their bar. The drinks were amazing and affordable and I loved that the had vegetarian options on their late night eats
google avatar

Marisa M.

Yelp
Cute spot for a drink and yummy apps. The cocktails are pricey but delicious, and the food was all perfect bar food. Tons of space and a cute outdoor patio in the back. Front and back patio both had heaters, just not super strong everywhere.
google avatar

Vivek S.

Yelp
Came here for a Warriors game with a friend and had the impossible tacos and wanted to try the tot-chos. Unfortunately, the tater tots were unavailable today and maybe if they were included this might've tasted better. The chips seemed a bit stale and. we didn't end up getting close to finishing them. The tacos were similarly underwhelming and the impossible meat had a rubbery texture. The two tacos were not filling at all. What was lacking in the food was made up by the people. Our server was very friendly and the game time atmosphere was super fun. The Rabbit Hole is a great place to stop by with some friends for a drink and a game.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Great vibe here. Love the outdoor seating that's dog friendly. I had the Cali creamin on Nitro. It hits so good. I ordered the slider trio. So delicious. Just the right amount of food for lunch. Server was super friendly even offered to turn on heater on for us . Definitely check this spot out if your in Normal Heights

Bianelle M.

Yelp
Bomb burgers bomb service! Staff friendly as well! You need to try it! Nice area, parking is okay & wasn't too packed during lunch!

Alyson G.

Yelp
ugh i really wanted to like this place it's so cute i love the theme but the service was really slow. we were asking the waitress for water, box, check, on all occasions it took her 10+ minutes to come back. it was a little busy so i understood that maybe it would've taken a little long. but then i came home, ate my fish and chips and i literally bit right into paper the chefs literally fried paper in my fish and chips like what
google avatar

Ghalia W.

Yelp
Came in here on a random friday night with some friends and it was PACKED! There was a wrestling match on tv so people were rowdy but the lighting and decorations of this restaurant is spectacular, I love all the random bunnies on the walls. As for the food, the nachos and elote dip were super unique menu items so we ordered that. The elote dip was a 4/5 for me as I wish it tasted more authentic to what elotes really taste like (mayonnaisey, buttery, cotija cheese-y, you know) but it was still really good. The nachos were your regular nachos with some chicken and tater-tots. These were a 3/5 for me because though I enjoyed all the elements to the nachos, there was a strong beer (?) taste to the cheese dor some reason which i HATED. Lastly, my choice entree was their fish and chips plate with brussels sprouts. The fries were 5/5 and the kethup they served had cumin (?) mixed in which was new and very tasty. the brussels sprouts were made wonderfully and i loved them. As for the fish itself, genuinely a 1/5. It was 80 percent breading and 20 percent fish, greasy, and doughy practically RAW inside. I did not enjoy the fish at all which I was so looking forward to:( Overall, I would definitely come back, their menu items are fun and quirky and they have a plethora of options on their beer, cocktail, and wine menu. also; Hopefully next time though we get a better server because ours was very inattentive and gave us attitude when we told her we were ready to order LOL

Mike S.

Yelp
Service is no good. Food is decidedly average. They have a stage but very few shows. I dunno. They could do this better.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
This is actually a really great bar! A lot of seating available, clean. Does get busy but I think the staff does a great job of handling the amount of customers they get. Even at the bar when it's been busy I always still get great service and bartenders do a great job. Greg is by far one of my favorite bartenders here. He knows how to make drinks. It's a good spot to hang out with friends or just grab a drink alone. Normally a good crowd. Good social spot. Food is really good as well.
google avatar

Yelp
We had to evacuate LA cause of the fires and needed a place to go to forget about what was happening so we went to watch the Steelers game and called ahead to make sure the were showing the game. We asked if they had time limit on table they said no but made us leave before half time cause they reserved a table they never actually had. We were ready to order more beers but they didn't even give us a chance instead they made us to move to an area with no chairs. You're a sports bar!! You know what that entails and if you let people stay they will order more. From evacuating LA to evacuating this "bar"

Yelp
Stop by here after the street fair this past Sunday with my friends. I've been to Rabbit Hole two times before this, but the first time I noticed the back patio. Very adorable layout. It has relaxing lay back chairs in the center, with booth tables surrounding the outskirts. There's plenty of TVs if you're looking for a spot to accommodate Sunday football! It is a seat yourself type of restaurant, which is my preference because it feels a lot faster than waiting to be sat. Although the bar was packed, we are able to snag a table within 5 minutes of searching. Overall, I really enjoyed the ambiance and the food & drinks. I ordered their specialty cocktail, Basil Bunny, and the Teriyaki Bowl. There's a DJ setup inside and a really cool glow in the dark black light setup in the hallway toward the restrooms. Although, the service was very subpar. Our waitress, Phoebe, forgot my drink about 10 minutes after everyone got there drinks, she mentioned that she had forgot which table it was supposed to go to, and when and grabbed it from the bar.. so she had my drink just sitting at the bar for 10 minutes, instead of making me a new one... just brought me that exact one. A different person delivered our food. Our waitress never came to check on us to see if we needed anything or if we got everything we ordered. I was pretty disappointed in the service. But I am hopeful that that's not a standard experience.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Been here over 30 times over the last 13 years. Busy but not busy. Doesn't matter, because service has declined every year since, especially since pandemic. Typical beers. Otherwise, a decent place to go off Adams. Same place in North Park with True North but yet you get served in under 20 minutes( not busy ). Used to order the food but It's typical bar food. Outside area is fun.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I come here multiple times a month. It's great to have a local watering hole, but they really need to improve their food. As someone who has ordered nearly everything on the menu over the past year, we have some thoughts. If you're coming here drunk, you probably won't notice how bad the food is. But if you're starting here sober, take note: The brisket nachos have barely any meat or pico de gallo and are completely flavorless. The fried pickles are consistently too oily and soggy, lacking the crispiness they should have. The pretzel is always excessively salty. The veggie sandwich and gyro are both way too dry. The list goes on. So, why do we keep coming? Convenience and great service! We live less than a mile away, and the front-of-house staff is always attentive and welcoming. Whenever we see the GM, he's interacting with customers and sparking conversation, which adds to the home-like vibe. We just wish the food was better. On the bright side, the service and beer selection are generally good. They have plenty of TVs and host sports events regularly, which is always a plus. Not to mention, they have live band karaoke which is always a lot of fun.
google avatar

Roman P.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a coworker and had their nachos and their fish and chips. I also ordered the chicken wings which were really good. The nachos were good and so were the toppings. The fish and chips were good and came with brussels sprouts that were pretty tasty. The staff is friendly here and the ambience is cute. Will definitely come back again to try more of their menu. Not to mention the prices were great too.
google avatar

Yelp
On date night found this place with live music and great tasting food. Offered a range of drinks alcoholic and non alcoholic! Server was kind, attentive and fast. Check them out!

Yelp
The rules are no dogs inside and they don't follow them. I told our waitress server and she did nothing. Visadora was our server. There were dogs in the back patio as well. .

Yelp
After the 8th Annual Adams Avenue Spirit & Stroll, my mom and I decided we needed food so we stopped by the Rabbit Hole. We ordered the abnormal totchos with chicken. They were huge. Loved that they were loaded with so many toppings. We had a hard time finishing them between the two of us. I would definitely recommend them. Great for sharing with a group.

Yelp
Great place to have a beer and hang out. Food was good service was outstanding!!! But the best thing was the jalapeño chicken wings OMG!!!!!!

Yelp
We had a fantastic lunch today. Very nice bartender. We were annoying because wanted to order everything! My soup was great! Drinks were great! We had a couple appetizers and entrees. Was pleased when we got the bill and didn't break the bank! We had the elote dip, the engine wrap, veggie sandwich, Brussels chicharoons, and fried pickles. It was all so good!

Yelp
Absolutely love the atmosphere here, great decor and lighting, cool artwork on the walls, friendly bartenders and staff, and nice people I was able to befriend. I was visiting San Diego for a few days and came here twice. Why? On Saturday, they do live music from 9pm-12midnight, and I got to enjoy the musical talents of Safety Orange, an awesome reggae rock band, playing their own renditions of songs like Summertime, Badfish, and Wagon Wheel, much of the crowd on their feet, loving the vibe. They even did a mashup of No Woman No Cry and Free Bird which sounded sooo good. I returned on Monday to try some of their appetizers and drinks at a discount price off their Happy Hour menu, and it was awesome. The Cottontail Bites were simple yet so cheesy and delicious, and I could really taste that pesto flavor in the ranch sauce, which I loved. The Cheesesteak Egg Rolls were good as well, the grilled onions and peppers shining in this dish, the filling altogether wrapped in a crispy chewy exterior. The Basil Bunny was the perfect drink for me, for so many reasons... vodka, strawberry, lemon, bunny?!? it's just my kinda drink, a mix of everything I like. Overall, I had a great experience at The Rabbit Hole, and would probably be a regular here if I were a local.

Yelp
Casual, hole in the wall vibes even though this place was freaking huge! The rabbit hole is def a staple in the community and everyone comes out during the weekends to enjoy the games! We came on a Sunday afternoon and there were lots of parties sitting around enjoying the game. Nothing too different from your local bars, but this one is known to show the games! The service was quick, the food was average and it hit the spot. I'll see you again soon for another game! Keep up the good work!
