I have been seeing Sam for a few years (?!) now and aside from a great hair stylist, she is the best person. I always feel better leaving than I do entering, and that has nothing to do with the great hair cut she gives me! We just giggle and it is always a good time. I have curls that I’ve never known how to style and when I first went to see her, she finally help me hone my hairstyle and now I always love keeping my hair curly. Sam is truly an artist. She is also a great listener and wants you to walk out happy. If you've had enough of coloring/styling methods that deplete your hair, then rest assured - you'll be in great hands with Sam. She will be gentle with your hair. The Rare Bird is a special salon that will offer you superior service, in a very relaxed environment. This was my first visit and it won't be my last. I instantly connected with Sam and know that after a year of searching, I finally found my place. I came in for a cut and wanted a little "spruce up." That's what I got. My hair has more movement, style and looks great. It's me... but better. You will love the attention to detail that Sam will provide. And, she is so personable and will make you feel welcomed and cared for from the start. The salon is right in the heart of Old Town, with plenty of street parking.

I had an amazing experience at The Rare Bird with Sam. I came in ready for a big change, 12 inches off to donate, and wasn’t quite sure what style to go for next. Sam is amazing! She asks questions, you figure out what's best, and she makes the magic happen. Eris is really friendly and kind as well. I can't recommend this place highly enough (6 stars? A million stars?!?)

Sam is hands down the best stylist I have ever seen. I've been going to her almost two years now and my hair has never been healthier. The cuts she gives grow out wonderfully until the next time I see her. I have low maintenance color that only requires seeing her 4x a year, in between visits the color blends well into my natural color, no line or distinction where roots grow in. Her prices are quite fair too for the area. I used to always be nervous going to get my hair cut/colored (I have had some terrible experiences in the past) but now I actually look forward to my next appointments! She is so fun to talk to and her new place is very cute too.

I had such a great experience with Eris! She gave me some super helpful tips on keeping my hair hydrated (which I definitely needed!) and finished with an amazing blowout that left my hair shiny and full of volume. Highly recommend booking with Eris if you're looking for a stylist who listens and delivers amazing results!

I had my first visit with Sam today and I am beyond happy! I’m not very good with knowing what looks best and because of that, I’m never satisfied when I get my hair done. I asked Sam what she thought would look best for my face and she DELIVERED! She walked me through every single thing, answered all of my annoying questions, and made me feel like a Princess. She has the most gentle hands too. I have an extremely tender scalp and I didn’t have pain a single time. That has also never happened- I didn’t even have to tell her! Amazing. I cannot recommend enough.

Love love love coming here! I love that Sam will always provide the short term and long term hair routines to maintain your new hair for as long as it can be and all her product recommendations are on point. She really cares about hair and will take the time to make sure you're happy at the end!
