I recently visited The Rec Room by the CN Tower and, honestly, I left feeling disappointed and frustrated despite the potential this place has.
Let’s start with the good: they have a fantastic variety of games and activities. From arcade classics to VR experiences and racing simulators, there’s truly something for everyone. The atmosphere is lively and fun, and if you’re going just to play games, you’ll probably have a great time. The venue is spacious, modern, and in an unbeatable location right next to the CN Tower — it’s perfect for groups, tourists, or anyone looking for a casual night out.
Unfortunately, everything else fell flat for me — especially the service. The staff lack proper training, and some of the managers seem to lack basic professionalism and customer service skills. I was there alone, waiting for my party of eight people to arrive. I asked to be seated at a table so I could wait comfortably, and despite explaining the situation clearly, they refused to seat me. Instead of being understanding or helpful, the staff were dismissive and borderline rude.
It’s one thing to enforce policies, but another to do it with zero courtesy or flexibility. It genuinely felt like they couldn’t care less about creating a welcoming experience. In hospitality, first impressions matter, and unfortunately, the way I was treated made it very clear that customer care is not a priority here.
Because of this experience, I decided I would never return, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a place where they’ll feel respected and valued as a guest.
Overall, while The Rec Room nails the entertainment side of things, they urgently need to train their staff and improve their approach to customer service. A fun environment is only as good as the people running it — and in this case, that’s where everything fell apart.
