You don't need to be vegetarian/vegan to have an incredible meal here! Everything they serve here is fresh, filling, and delicious--and that's coming from a pretty big meat lover.
I ordered the compost plate--a vegan version of Rochester's classic garbage plate--and it was incredible. The sauce was savory, the mac salad was creamy, and both paired well with the sweet potato mash. I chose the lentil burger for my protein, and everything came together perfectly. There are a lot of misconceptions about vegetarian/vegan food being only salads, or other really light fare, but Red Fern has a great selection of sandwiches and plates to prove that you're not missing much by going vegan! Also definitely try their desserts (they have them on display as you walk in so it's hard to resist). We ordered the chocolate mint oreo cake, and it was divine. It was super rich and chocolately--I wouldn't have been able to tell it was vegan. It only had a hint of mint, and even if you weren't a fan of mint chocolate, you'd enjoy this cake.
The restaurant is very cozy and warmly decorated. They have tables inside and outside, for when the weather is nice, it makes for a great lunch or dinner setting by Park Ave. Prices are very reasonable for what you get, and we both ended up taking leftovers back with us.
You can't go wrong with Red Fern! Especially if you're not vegan, it's a great place to open your eyes to how great vegan fare can be. It's absolutely worth a visit.
