I stayed here with my two granddaughters. The hotel gave us an upgrade to a two room suite. What a nice surprise. The hotel is awesome. Like a walk back in time. Clean rooms, interesting bathroom claw tub with shower, food was good, nice bar upstairs, and another bar in the basement with music. I enjoyed sitting on the front porch with a glass of wine. I recommend a visit.

So it’s a lovely old grand inn. There’s a little sniffer in the beginning they showed me one room when I was expecting completely different room. We got that squared away happily to my advantage, thankfully. I would simply make some recommendations 1. Because it is a historical place perhaps you could get a docking station and put it on the desk in each room so that people can put their phones etc. wherever they’d like because like for me I literally had to pull The bed out from the wall, which was quite precarious and not Something I wanted to do. So a docking station that had the ability to plug in different things at least two phones, etc. would be great because people who are elderly like me have hearing aids that have to be juiced up my smart watch which everybody wears 2. Maybe replace the very tired very low chairs that were in the room that I was in at least. My sister and I looked at them. She’s 60 I’m 65 and we decided our rumba days were over…. And the coverings on the chair very very, very tired. 3. Perhaps put a sign on the closet door that says more pillows. We came in late from James Taylor concert, Dove into bed and within five minutes, the pillars that we had our heads on with pancakes… And we had never looked in the closet because we were just up and had pants and shirts to wear so we didn’t have to hang up anything. Very frustrated the next morning when I woke up and just decided to look in the closet and right in front of us for four more blowouts and we’re like oh my God wish we had know. Simple fix 4. A bathroom Fan would also be appreciated ! 😅👃 5. Last but not least… A fan in each room or fan over each bed would be great. Absolutely love the way you guys have the stack of towels and face cloths. That’s perfect and very much appreciated The food was delicious. The service was wonderful.. I mean, who doesn’t love your place?!!!

What we liked was a beautiful, expansive porch to enjoy a sunny afternoon, lovely flowers everywhere and extremely kind, courteous staff. We had a lovely dinner in the pub and a generous breakfast in the dining room, both were excellent. Live music was played at breakfast and it was so charming. Bed was clean and comfortable, towels were clean and soft, toiletries smelled lovely. The inn is old so we didn’t expect large, sterile rooms such as you’d find in brand new hotels. We feel you are trading space for charm at the Red Lion. There is an elevator for folks who can’t get up and down stairs easily but this is really not the place to stay if you have mobility constraints. It could be cleaner (eg, doors to the restrooms in the public spaces looked a bit grimy) but not sure if this is an issue with finding help as the location is not that close to an urban area. Also would recommend requesting a room on the pool side of the inn as the street side gets a lot of traffic and, in keeping with the look of an old inn, the windows appear original and don’t do much for keeping traffic noise down. Bring your ear plugs.

We spent two nights on the ground floor of McLaughlin House (≈ $1,600). While the property’s setting is nice—we enjoyed an excellent smash burger at the main inn and visits to the Norman Rockwell Museum and High Lawn Farm—the accommodations are far below reasonable expectations at this price point. • Climate & ventilation: The room was advertised with air-conditioning but had none. Maintenance could only offer two fans, one of which was broken. Almost all windows were cracked and/or would not stay open, so ventilation was poor. • Cleanliness & repairs: Mosquitoes, flies, and moths were constant; all of us left covered in bites, and one shirt now has a moth hole. Various other household items were in disrepair and fell apart when we moved furniture to accommodate the fans. Wildlife was coming and going through permanently propped-open basement windows. • Service response: Issues were reported, yet no meaningful remedy or compensation was offered. The McLaughlin House feels neglected and is inconsistent with the hotel’s 4-star/4.3-Google-rating reputation. I would have rather saved the money and gone camping - at least then we would have been better prepared for the bugs. Guests may fare better in the main inn, but I would advise avoiding McLaughlin House—especially in warm or rainy weather.

Went for our first stay this past Thursday. Just for one night. I felt very much at home. It’s historic and huge and very comfortable. I felt like I was in my great, great, great great grandmother’s guest room. Bed was comfortable. Room felt very lived in but clean. I really enjoyed our stay here. I used the hot tub. They have nice shampoo and soap. I would love to stay here again and explore the area more. Or I could sit on the porch and watch the world go by.

The Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, MA, is a breathtaking gem that radiates classic charm and majestic elegance. From its historic architecture to the beautifully maintained interiors, this inn is the epitome of a welcoming and sophisticated getaway. Guests are enveloped by a serene atmosphere that feels exclusive, ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable escape from the everyday hustle. With its rich history and inviting décor, the Red Lion Inn perfectly blends comfort with timeless beauty. We just placed an order that promises to ignite our taste buds! **Roast Prime Rib of Beef** Get ready to indulge in an enormous, mouthwatering cut of prime rib, roasted to perfection! Seasoned with an incredible blend of aromatic herbs and spices, this tender and juicy beef is slow-cooked for an unforgettable explosion of flavor in every single bite. It comes with luscious au jus and zesty horseradish sauce, creating a classic dish you’ll dream about long after the last bite! **Signature Vegetarian Patty** For the adventurous vegetarians in our group, we went for the fabulous Chickpea and Quinoa Patty, drizzled with a refreshing Tzatziki sauce that adds the perfect twist! A colorful medley of savory vegetables and warm, grilled naan bread accompany the dish in perfect harmony. I couldn’t resist taking a bite, and let me tell you—it was an exhilarating burst of flavors dancing across my palate! Every element was beautifully seasoned, creating a truly enchanting experience! Thank you to the entire crew and the chef for crafting such a perfect culinary adventure!

We spent quite a bit of money for a 2 night stay at the famous Red Lion Inn for our Anniversary. My parents used to come here and loved it. We will never go back. The queen room we had looked nothing like the picture in the ad. The bed was extremely high and hard to get into. Room was extremely small with 2 chairs that looked like antiques so we were afraid to sit in them. Very uncomfortable room ever. Parking is a pain which makes it hard to even check in. We finally parked in a no parking spot so I could get the keys. Thank God someone met us in the very back parking lot to help with luggage and show us how to get to rooms. The front porch is a delight and the best thing if the Inn. It is located in a central location to the Berkshires' towns and attractions. Breakfast was good and staff friendly. We did eat in the Tavern one night. Food was ok and the waitress was awful. She was neurotic, talked to herself and made you feel neurotic. She wasn't personable at all. She shouldn't be a waitress. We were really looking forward to staying there for our Anniversary but never again! A lot would have to change to make it worth our time and money.

I have only come for dinner. What is nice is you can get a drink at the bar and sit out in the parlor before being seated. The meal and service were also very good. Great stop when in the Southern Berkshires.

Yelp
I was researching options for a dinner party for 12 people. I had known about Red Lion Inn and never been, but after inquiring decided to book our dinner. I coordinated with Tim who was lovely. He was extremely responsive, great at communication, and very helpful to get everything coordinated. We were able to book the "living room" which was a private room adjacent to the lobby, right in front of a live piano. It was sooo charming. We paid a fee for the private room, but beyond that there was no minimums to meet. Red Lion created custom menus for us, left a curated selection of options, and created a beautiful setting for our meal. I loved the chinoiserie dinnerware. The entire setting was gorgeous, cozy, and a perfect spot for a group dinner. I really couldn't have been happier. We started with a glass of bubbly, the nest egg, the hand cut egg pasta, and ordered all the desserts. All of the food was delicious. If you're looking for a space for a private dinner, or even just to enjoy an evening out with delicious food in a cozy setting, do not hesitate to book at Red Lion. I'm already planning my next trip back to actually stay at the inn for fall foliage in October!

Yelp
Old New England charm and I do mean old. Very quaint town where this fits right in. A little thread bare in places but still charming.

Yelp
This place has a lot of history...and it should be history. If you don't mind feeling like a burden, come here and be disappointed in yourself for not taking this review seriously.

Yelp
Mom and Dad used to frequent the Inn back in the day to celebrate their many anniversaries. Today, hubs and I decided to drop in for lunch to celebrate ours. Yes, the floors still creak and are seriously lopsided in places. There's the old eccentric feel to the historical venue. Well, the inn is 250 years old! Welcome to the 18th century. Of course, we enjoyed their clam chowder and chicken pot pie. Great place to people watch and our waitress has served many in her 20 years tenure. Red Lion is worth a stop if you are ever passing through the quaint town of Stockbridge. **Reservations are necessary ** Have a Happy New Year 2024!

Yelp
I am sorry to say that we were very disappointed with our visit to the Red Lion's restaurant. While the service was very good the food was mediocre, except for the Butternut Acorn soup, which very tasty. The lobby of the hotel is nice and very reminiscent of a time gone by. The deocr of the pub area of the restaurant is in need of a make-over, the ambiance of the pub was "Ye old sans tavern ambiance", just this man's opinion.

Yelp
Update 2024 - still very well selected, chef crafted, delicious dinners. We shared and felt we both ordered well. The Alaskan pan-seared trout reminded my wife of salmon, except it didn't have that salmon smell, was more delicate, and their risotto was perfect (not heavy, but full of flavor). My veggie dish, roasted Miatake mushrooms in a nice sauce (I forgot what was in it because it was last night's dinner before we saw James Taylor at Tanglewood). Also enjoyed the artisanal bread basket with butter. Only complaints were the inflationary costs and the smaller portions than in prior visits here. Service was great and very prompt (so here's a shout out to our waitress Darlene, who got us out in time for the concert).

Yelp
First, let me start with the positives: The food was fine because I didn't have to cook The bed and linens were fine as well. Our room was small, but we didn't spend a lot of time there so it was no big deal. The staff members we dealt with were very pleasant. Now, the negatives: There is a difference between historic and shabby. This place is shabby... and in dire need of updates. The hallway on the third floor actually tilts! The lobby furniture was lumpy and dusty. The rugs are dirty, stained and threadbare (including the one in our room). There's also an all-around musty smell throuhout the inn. The furniture in our room was rickety and ready to topple over. The bathroom really needed help!! It contained the toilet, and a shower inside a tub (which was peeling around the drain). The sink was actually in the same room as the bed! There was no place inside the shower/tub to put soap or shampoo, so we had to use the closed toilet as a shelf. Taking a shower, brushing our teeth, etc. was a very awkward process. Normally, I wouldn't bother leaving a review because I just wouldn't go back. However, the price for the one night, breakfast included, was $456!!! My husband and I have have traveled extensively, so we've stayed in many hotels. This was really dissapointing. I see from previous reviews that the management is pretty good about responding. That's commendable. But I just want to say that I'm not looking for anyone to say they're sorry or that they don't agree with me. You may think it's charming (and that's ok) but we found it run down. And it wasn't worth the high price. Future guests should know this.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch at The Red Lion Inn on his birthday. The meal needed to awesome. It did not disappoint. I hadn't visited this famous landmark in years. I was so delighted to be there. The sunlight poured through the large windows adding to the dining room's old New England charm. I also liked the chandeliers, the pretty floral arrangements and the lovely table settings. Our host and server was a young man named Godfrey. He was helpful, attentive and efficient. Excellent at his job. As for the food. We loved our meals. My husband ordered the clam chowder and a lobster roll. I had the soup du jour which was vegetable. I also ordered a Red Lion Inn Turkey Sandwich. It came complete with cranberry sauce and stuffing. It was delish. The portions were generous. I took half of the sandwich home and enjoyed it the next day. Located about an hour from the Capital Region, the Red Lion was a highlight to a really fun road trip. It's certainly worth a visit if you're in the Berkshires.

Yelp
I drove my elderly mom there (a one hour drive), and we didn't realize we should make a reservation for a Tuesday. (DUH! It's fall foliage time!) We had a 40-minute wait, so I got a drink from the bar, and the bartender, Matt S., went out of his way to go back to the kitchen to get my mom a hot coffee. (I don't know if he is attached, but any young ladies should go check him out if he's not! He is a handsome, kind man who went above and beyond for me and my elderly mom.) Kari (hostess who I also saw bussing tables, laying out fresh tablecloths, and setting up silverware/napkins--she is amazing) got us a lovely table by a big window. Liam, our server, was excellent as well. We even observed him taking photos for people who asked (and he is skilled at it)! Our food was good and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The lobby and other rooms are exquisitely beautiful and reminiscent of olden times. If you'd like an old-fashioned, elegant place to eat, I highly recommend The Red Lion Inn!

Yelp
First time dining at the Red Lion Inn. The ambiance is so charming, with lots of history. It was a beautiful day, so we decided to eat outside. The pub food was delicious. Our server was super sweet and helpful. The restaurant was packed inside and out, but the food service was quick. Would love to go back to the Lions Den for a quick bite & live entertainment.

Susan R.

Yelp
The place is historically beautiful! Our waiter, Noah, was quite amiable and knows his menu. I have decided to order the Steak Frites for lunch. Other orders for our group include the clam chowder, the "smash" burger, and the turkey sandwich. Looking around, I can see that the food is not being skimped on and it is well-presented! Drinks have been served. It seems the diet sodas aren't very good. The mulled cider with rum is delicious!! Conversation continues as we wait for our food. So far, the only sound I hear are satisfying! Everyone appreciates the quality of their meal. Now, it is time to taste the steak! It is not cooked to my order of medium rare. Noah, being the professional, took my plate right away to bring it back the way it was requested! While I wait, I'm provided with a small dinner salad. The turkey sandwich is described as a complete Thanksgiving dinner as a sandwich! Both the chowder and burger have been given excellent reviews! My meal is absolutely delectable! I am savoring every bite!! Now, for the summary... Overall, the food, service, and ambiance were superb! I believe it would be difficult to find a product that was not delicious! Reservations are suggested, if not required. Will I eat here again?? YES!!! A very relaxing meal with family and attentive staff!! It will be remembered!

Yelp
We continue to enjoy our visits to the venerable Red Lion. It's most definitely an historic inn -- 250 years old in 2023 -- and has endured over a plethora of difficult times. It's a large facility with a main house and several outposts around its "campus." We prefer staying in the main inn, preferably on the first floor where there are several large, comfty king bed rooms. The rooms are not bargain-priced, but for this area for given the inn's status, it seems fair to us. There is a main dining room, a tavern, a basement pub that offers live music, and outdoor dining under tents. Lots of choices. The main dining room we've found to be acceptable with occasional delightfully prepared dishes (they actually do an old-fashioned turkey dinner very nicely). Service is good, the tables candlelit at dinner, the experience usually a pretty good one. There's a skilled bartender who whips up some nifty drinks. But the supreme pleasure is getting one of the rocking chairs on the big front porch and watching the world go by while you sip a cool beverage. It's where we happily spent several hours on our recent stay. A few annoying moments: no coffee in the room and a gross overcharge for a copy of the daily newspaper ($4 for a $1.50 edition???). Small stuff maybe, but they stick in the memory. Really, this old hotel has a lot of charm and character and puffers visitors a lot to relish whole there here. We'll be back.

Yelp
Christmas Day dinner was excellent! Such a lovely inn, fun and interesting decor you could spend an hour walking around just side. Unfortunately the store was closed! But the holiday dinner was delicious, pre fixe, great choices. Prime rib was perfect, pork shank was falling off the bone, parsnip soup was unique and really really good. Roasted carrot app was awesome! Nice cocktails and mocktails, I love the holiday twist, cider marg was good!!! My only complaint/suggestion is it was a little difficult to manage with food allergies, not a lot of choices for that. Service was great, server was super accommodating and managed our large group with ease. Thanks for an excellent time!

Sarah R.

Yelp
We chose to stay at the Red Lion Inn on our Berkshires getaway and it was the perfect choice for a cozy, romantic weekend. Our room had a king sized bed and plenty of space and decorated in a vintage vibe. We hung out frequently in the lobby where there was always a roaring fire in the fireplace. We ordered drinks at the bar in the tavern area that were great! Try the mulled cider with whatever alcohol you choose! They also have resident cats which makes it even more of a special spot to visit. Heated pool and hot tub are opened year round and also a fun spot to check out. Highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
I suspect that as the Red Lion Inn continues to employ marketing teams to 'hipsterize' their social media and lobby Conde Nast to include them in their 'top' categories, the overall level of the reviews will go way down! Despite a higher initial demand to stay here from first timers who likely came across the property on an influencer's social media accounts ... I fear that the long time regulars will be dissuaded from staying here. The crowd is MUCH younger than I ever experienced in 20 years of staying here ... louder on the porch, wilder in the pool and drunker in the Den. The charm of this place is that it is older, shop worn and dated. It feels like an old leather trunk ... just barely functional but comfortable and worn to an impossibly perfect patina for those who appreciate vintage. Sadly, as you market this hotel as a 'luxury' property with tons of glitz and glam sprinkled throughout stories and tok videos, the inevitable 1 and 2 star 'horrified' reviews will come in from 20 and 30 year olds who are expecting 'the gram' photos to match up to the real deal. If you come in knowing what you are getting, you'll likely be a lot more comfortable. The beds are creaky and old ... mattresses are like plywood ... sheets are scratchy af ... bedspreads are too heavy. The temperature in the rooms will never be right due to the drafty windows, some with single panes of glass and wide gaps. It's always either too hot or too cold in the rooms. The furniture throughout looks like it was taken out of a budget antique store. Nothing matches ... and some of the wallpaper, wall art and carpeting looks as though it came straight from Little Red Riding Hood's Victorian grandmother's house. The property has a restaurant, a bar (you can eat here), another 'speakeasy' type of bar downstairs, a wonderful front porch with not enough seating, a pool and jacuzzi which is either a total dream when not crowded ... or a total nightmare when it is. The property has seen better days ... but unlike most places ... it has seen hundreds of thousands of better days as it feels like the 1800's inside. Some (like me) find this charming ... others will find this hideous. The bathtubs and showers have thankfully been re-done but in the Victorian days, people were smaller and thinner ... so expect to bump elbows with the walls a bit. The street outside the inn is surprisingly noisy all through the night. Chalk that up to single pane glass windows and a road that passes by the hotel on 2 sides, which large trucks use to bypass the highway at all hours of the evening. For a hotel in the middle of nowhere, you will need earplugs to get a good night's sleep. And that's IF the couple next door is not banging the creaky brass headboard and moaning through the paper thin walls all night. This is one of the quirkiest places I've ever stayed. Part of the charm as to why I come back 5 times per year x the last 20 years is because it is SO unusual and time-warp-ish. I know what I am getting ... which is exactly what I got 20 years ago. However, as the influencers invade, the price is 3 or 4 times what I paid back then. Honestly, seeing the October prices, I don't blame folks for the hate they shower upon this place ... especially given all the luxury hotels popping up in the Berkshires lately! Overall, I think those who know what they are getting into, this is a unique paradise. For those expecting to jump into a story they saw or a highly filtered picture ... buyer beware. I think the management really needs to understand what they are doing to themselves for the long haul by attracting a hipper crowd who are expecting real life to match up with insta-life. It rarely does.

Matthew D.

Yelp
We popped into the lions den, which was awesome, drinks were amazing, food good, service was on point. The in. Itself is kind of iconic, the room was just what we needed, the service at the check in inn was great the housekeeping was ok, I asked for extra pillows 2x which never came, but it is what it is, I went to Walmart and bought one cause I was annoyed. Cool town with lots of local spots, we will be back and brining my extra pillows with me

Yelp
Mid-September, 2024. Room 517 in Maple Glen building, the air conditioning did not work. The hallway was cooler than our room. Opened the windows but we were on the first floor - a bit risky? Four nights - all ok. Temps low 80s, at night 60-50 so at night the room eventually cooled down. Check the closet for better pillows. $22.00 each for breakfast, ambiance - great. Downtown location, historic - excellent.

Marie B.

Yelp
I had the BEST smash burger last week in the Tavern. Extremely delicious menu. Incredible hot cider. I had a great time with my Aunt and Uncle. Incredible ambiance and excellent customer service. The staff were so friendly, knowledgeable and warm! All the customers were friendly as well due to the infectious nature of the staff. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Tuyen N.

Yelp
Historical stay at the Red Lion Inn now on display; relics from the past in every way. True Americana, I have to say, everywhere we turned on our short little stay. Paintings and posters, and china tea cups and dishes, and furnishings in a very old British way, bringing us back to the colonies before Washington's stay. The food at the main dinning, where do I begin? was scrumptious beyond what I can say. We ate it up like citizen patriots ready to fight for independence the very next day. Revolution was in the air so we chose to keep with the times and used the stairs. Yet unlike then the pool was refreshing and a welcomed cooling on a hot spring's day. We'll leave the fight for independence of the past for those who come on a future foray. Charming was the overall impression of this old Inn in such an impressive way we think we'll make it an annual hurray! A bit more attentive to the basics of chamber-cleaning would go a long way to another star, on another day.

Yelp
Sat at the bar on a cold March night & loved the cozy vibe: old pewter vessels on display around the bar, the smell of warm cider wafting through the air & snippets of conversations revealing an educated and well travelled clientele (and staff). Started with the Citrus & Chicories Salad (recommended by the bartender). What a surprising array of ingredients. Loved it!! I should've continued with his recommendations by getting the Maitake but instead opted for the Tagliolini because it sounded interesting. It smelled pretty good but the taste and texture were kinda meh. The people next to me ordered a wedge salad, which was one of the cutest and well plated wedge salads I've seen. They also got a smash burger, which smelled and looked amazing. I could also tell from the diner's reaction that she loved it. I splurged for dessert & got the chocolate mousse at the bartender's suggestion. Pretty & delicious, it was a lovely end to my evening. Will definitely come again & maybe head to the adjacent Lion's Den to take in live music. Yes, you should add this place to your bucket list.

Yelp
Was visiting family for the weekend and my partner had been taking about Red Lion since we met. He grew up in the area and wanted to share the experience with me and his family. We were able to get a table with reservations and as soon as you walk in you can feel the history of the Inn. Love the look and the olde day feel. It was a nice evening and the food hit the spot for our group. It was a bit long but we did have a great evening. Sorry for the delay in my review.

Nora B.

Yelp
This place is so adorable! We had lunch here and everything is beautifully decorated. (Antique aesthetic) The service was wonderful and they even have the cutest gift shop too! I wouldn't recommend the turkey sandwich, but all of the other food was good! Great place to take grandparents - I would definitely come back if I'm in the area :)

David M.

Yelp
Always fantastic! We've been going a few times a year now for about 10 years. The staff is amazing & a great place to eat in the main dining or Tavern. Always wonderful guests to talk to as well.

Carol M.

Yelp
I was staying at Oak and Spruce Resort for a VIP event. Part of this event included dinner at the red lion. This is an amazing historic building. It has a lot of charm and character. I loved all of the pictures and antiques. The atmosphere was wonderful. And the building is so much bigger than it appears from the outside. We were in a banquet room on the second floor and the building just seemed to keep going and going. The service was excellent. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. The bartender went above and beyond to go downstairs to the main bar to get me something that wasn't stocked upstairs. The food was amazing. Appetizers included bruschetta, crab cakes and spring rolls. Dinner was buffet style and included a lot of options. Even the salad wasn't boring. There was romaine lettuce with anchovies on the side and Caesar dressing. But there was also mixed greens with a lot of toppings for the salad. Hot foods included roasted carrots, roasted potatoes, pork and chicken entrees. Asparagus with both. Dessert was baked mixed berries with whipped cream.

Alis T.

Yelp
The Lions Den- was a blast after Tanglewood, our Granddaughters birthday ! Ryan was an amazing bartender. Drinks were perfect and he was wonderful to watch with a crowd.

Mike B.

Yelp
Amazing waitstaff, old school grace and service, antique, historic surroundings, excellent special pea soup, salad so fresh, highly recommend.

Tamalie C.

Yelp
Service was good. Wouldn't recommend the mushroom entrée. Over priced and not that great.

Yelp
The main dining room is a tourist trap that has seen better days. Eating there on Friday night for a special occasion was one of the worst "fine" dining experiences I've ever had. There are very few choices on the menu, and all are extremely overpriced. The service was slow and unprofessional. It took over half an hour to get our entrees. Both $65 fillet mignons were over cooked. The waiter admitted it and replaced them, but it took a long time. Because of this, I ended up eating my entree alone. My $37 salmon trout with risotto was flavorless, tepid, a small portion and had very little sauce. When I asked for extra sauce, the waitress looked clueless and wanted to take my plate away. The old furniture desperately needs to be replaced; it lost its charm long ago. The cane seat on the first chair I was offered was deeply bent out shape from years of use. The best they could do was to tell me to move to a chair that was in slightly better condition. The springs on a sofa I sat on were broken. The noise level was so loud, we could not have a conversation, even though the room was only 2/3 full. The air conditioning was on even though the temperature outside was in the low 60s, so I was cold. The lighting was dim. I was uncomfortable the whole time.

Yelp
If you like historic hotels this is one of the best. Stay in the main building. Not a ton to do around there so make sure you have plans to do other things. Sitting on the porch with an old fashion is amazing

Yelp
Few places have good German and Eastern European food beyond a giant pretzel and sausage with their beer selection. They have eisbein (roasted pork knuckle) and sponsor the local Lithuanian Faire. Refreshing!

Yelp
Clam chowder and smash burger are out of this world. Service is very good. Parking can be a problem.

Yelp
The Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, Massachusetts is the closest you'll get to visiting the past. Beautiful decorations adorn the walls, floors, and everywhere you look. We visited the weekend after the new year, and one of the first things I noticed was the smell of their fireplace, a welcome sight, seeing that so many places have gone to using gas. The sitting area outside of the dining room was spacious, comfortable, and full of guests and visitors, the latter included us. The dining room was well thought out providing plenty of room between tables to ensure privacy, and the seats were comfortable. The menu is large enough to please the most finicky eaters, but small enough so as not to overwhelm and make it difficult to decide. The food was top notch, and even in a very busy room, it was brought out in a timely fashion. I strongly recommend The Red Lion Inn if you're in Stockbridge or any of the surrounding towns!

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful inn! Friendly service, the best food, heated pool and hot tub. Pricey for just one night, but worth it. We look forward to our next visit

Yelp
Quick lunch stop on our way through Stockbridge. The 250-year history easily made it our first choice of eateries in town, but the friendly service and great food were 5-star worthy. We ate in the tavern which probably hasn't changed much over time...think low ceilings, dark wood, and rough, wide plank floors. Bartender was friendly & efficient, and seemed to be fairly knowledgeable about wine. We ordered a french dip & a lobster roll. The french dip was tender, the au jus was flavorful, and the baguette on which it was served was perfect. The lobster roll was incredibly tasty providing a cool twist on the traditional mayo version by including dijon and garlic. A+.

Yelp
I recently enjoyed lunch with my family in this charming historic hotel in downtown Stockbridge . We ate at the go back in time bar and we were graciously served by..."A big shout out" Matt !! Thx u I had the fish (haddock) & chips and that was truly "off the hook". Great fry with an awesome crunch. The piece was over half the plate. I highly recommend for f & c foodies. The French dip was fantastic! Sorry terrible pix but the plate was wiped clean. I will return in the future and hopefully even stay in the hotel. It's with Lots of history, charm and warmth. A big 5 stars and a bigger great job.

Yelp
Our recent stay at the Red Lion Inn was exceptional, from the warm welcoming staff at check-in to our delightful room. We enjoyed dining with excellent food and service at Bingham's Tavern, followed by a relaxing time in the hot tub and pool on a winter night. With our two kids, aged 6 and 8, who thoroughly enjoyed their stay, the hotel's rich history added a magical touch, creating lasting memories for them. It has become a place we plan to revisit annually, as it truly embodies the essence of creating cherished memories. We loved it so much that we're heading back again this weekend!

Yelp
I absolutely love this hotel. It's definitely a part of the local history and has so much to offer. The outdoor pool and hot tub is terrific, and I camped out there with my own food from Nejaimes, feeling as if I was on a spa retreat. Keep in that mind that this is a very old New England historical hotel and site. So, you may see some bugs and cobwebs here and there. It's not modern, sleek, or sturdy. But, if you want to feel transported back in time and experience staying in what can feel like a movie set, be sure to stay here. They also have 2 restaurants- a pub and a formal dining room, along with a basement grotto space which is currently closed due to COVID. The food offerings are very main stream Americana. I saw a guy eating what looked like a 20 ounces steak at the bar w/ a few green beans and a pop-over (which is a New England biscuit with a lot of yeast). So, I would recommend getting take-out from the local wine shop, Nejaimes, which is about a block away and specializes in picnics. So they have a lot of items like hummus, tabouli, potatoe salad, cheeses, and crips. I even ordered a plain salad from the Red Lion Inn and then added all my exciting loot from Nejaimes while out at the pool. Also, when I called for the reservation, I noticed that they kept trying to upsell me. So, be sure to ask about all the options. Also, they have weak WiFi, although it worked like normal in my room. The adorable town of Stockbridge which is only a few blocks has terrible WiFi. Finally, the location is fantastic because you can easily get down to Monument Mountain and Great Barrington. And, it's also close to Kripalu - the yoga center. I definitely plan to stay here again.

Yelp
We stayed on July 17th. Staff member Denise went out of her way to help me. She was very sweet. Because of her we will stay again in the future

Yelp
Sat by the 250-year old fireplace and enjoyed hearty soups on the coldest weekend of the season! The staff was super friendly and accommodating. I felt like I was eating at someone's beautiful New England home. Loved the eclectic selection at the shop especially the Dolce & Gabbana Smeg toaster. As a history high I was in heaven learning about this place and the history of the area and this establishment. I can't wait to come back to see its equally glorious summer scene!

Yelp
Recently an old friend asked us if we would join him for dinner at the Red Lion Inn, as he was staying there overnight on business traveling through the Berkshires. We checked out the menu online for the main dining room, and I have to admit, we thought it was not anything we would be interested in. That being said, walking into the Red Lion is always a treat. You can smell a hint of wood smoke from the fireplace, and there was a welcoming fire crackling warmly in the elegant sitting room as we entered. We went through the Widow Bigham's Tavern on our way to the dining room and were able to enjoy a few minutes in that cozy, ancient space, just soaking in the feeling of being in that historical, famous spot, before we entered the dining room by the side door. After being seated at round table, which is absolutely delightful, instead of a square table, the three of us each ordered something different from that menu, and were really, actually stunned at the perfection of each of our meals! The serving sizes were small, Nouvelle-cuisine type and two of the three selections had no starch and very little vegetables. (That I would kick up a notch.) My husband had the duck breast with the risotto; our host ordered the monkfish and yours truly ordered the short ribs with roasted carrots. I have to say, although I can make short ribs that melt in my mouth, this was out of this world! And the carrots had me scraping the plate for just one more little taste! My husband was so taken with both the flavor, and the perfection of his duck breast that he insisted I try it, even though it was a very small portion on the plate, so sharing really exhibited devoted love...and his risotto was so delicious that I begged our waiter for the recipe! Our host exclaimed numerous times on how delicious his monkfish was. Adam, our waiter, who we knew from years ago at 20 RR Rd. in GB and were very happy to see and to discover was going to be taking care of us, was attentive, friendly, knew his stuff, but wasn't over indulgent, and let us have our time together. All in all, we were 100% satisfied with our evening and grateful to the chef for his obvious care in executing perfection! It was a great evening with friends, good food, and excellent libation! It will live in our memories for a long time.

Yelp
It's been a couple months since my family and I walked out for the third time from the red line in because of the horrible service but I thought I'd give it another try because of deck is so charming But I stood by the bar, while one bartender waited on other people who came after me, and the other bartender sat right in front of me cutting of lemons 10 minutes, never asking me if I want to drink The problem with the red line is they don't need you and man they expect the same - to paraphrase Bob Dylan The place is going to be packed no matter what the staff doesn't care and it's a shame. As a year-round local in Stockbridge, I am embarrassed when people come into town and go there. But that was the last time for me

Yelp
Great food. Friendly service. Really kept up to the integrity of its age. Even the doors have regular keys. The antiques are fun to look at. The food is kind of newish takes in comfort food. Great place to stay

Yelp
Full disclosure: I have not stayed at The Red Lion, but ended up there when my bus dropped me off in Stockbridge on my way to Kripalu and realized I had no cell phone signal at all. The lady at the front desk not only recommended a driver but let me use the phone to call her. On my way back a couple of days later, they stored my luggage for free while I walked around town. I ended my visit with a delicious Aperol Spritz on the inn's magnificent gigantic porch. I

Yelp
Had an 8:15 pm reservation. Checked in at 7:45 and waited in the lobby in clear view of host. At 8:20 she kept looking at me and asked if there was anything I needed. I said I checked in a half hour ago for my reservation and she acted as if she had no idea what I was speaking about. I said that I guess it isn't going to work out tonight and no attempt to correct me or figure it out. And I was the second reservation I saw this happen too. I had been waiting to come to Red Lion Inn on previous visits to Stockbridge. I guess it won't happen. Nice that it is too late to go elsewhere.

Yelp
BEYOND DISAPPOINTED!! For my husband's birthday, we flew into Boston (FROM PHOENIX) and drove 2 hours into Stockbridge, only for a hostess to tell us they didn't want to seat anymore! It was 2:24pm on a Saturday and it was NOT busy! What makes me SOOOO sad is that I probably won't be back for another 20 years! Completely heartbroken.

Yelp
We had dinner tonight in the booth in the Tavern part of the Inn. Darlene was our waitress and she was fantastic. Attentive, knowledgeable and really nice. I am vegan, and although they have nothing on the dinner menu that is vegan, Darlene worked with the chef and the restaurant manager to produce one of the best vegan meals I've ever had anywhere. Vegan maitake mushrooms, risotto, fingerling potatoes and grilled white and green asparagus - all presented beautifully and truly delicious. I am so grateful to Darlene, the Chef and the Restaurant Manager for accommodating vegan diets and going out of their way to create an amazing meal for me. The private booth at the Tavern is an experience no one should miss. Add cocktails out on the expansive old-time porch and you have a perfect experience.

Yelp
Had drinks in the bar before dinner. The restaurant is a book of 100+ year old US restaurants and we have been to about 30 of them now. So had to eat here while in town. Service in the restaurant was amazing from Nathan. Very professional but not stuffy-very friendly and outgoing. Dining room is very traditional and in keeping with a restaurant of this age in New England. Menu is a limited with 5 appetizers and 6 entrees. We chose the GRILLED MAITAKE MUSHROOM and the EGG YOLK TAGLIOLINI. Mushroom dish was very good-Demi, parsnip puree, fiddlehead ferns and shallots combined very well. Taglioni had an incredibly rich sauce but was very salty. Averaen Pinot was excellent. Warm Brown Sugar Cake was a bit underwhelming and should have vanilla ice cream instead of the coffee.

Yelp
Worst customer service ever. We booked the hotel in June. Unfortunately, had to cancel it in November. They Say that they will refund how you booked. That's a lie! Booked with a credit card and was told they would only refund with a check. Still waiting weeks for that check. DO NOT BOOK HERE!!! It old and dirty there.

Yelp
Highly overrated. Staff indifferent. I will never understand the high ratings for overpriced snobbery.
