Stayed here in Jan 2026 and had a great experience overall. The views are absolutely phenomenal and a real highlight of the stay. The rooms are modern, stylish, and very well presented, making the space feel both comfortable and high quality. The balcony is massive! The only downside was sleep comfort: the frosted glass internal bedroom doors let in light, there were no block-out curtains in the living area, and the secondary air-conditioning vent into the bedroom was a bit noisy (bring eye mask and earplugs if a light sleeper).

We had an absolutely wonderful stay and felt extremely comfortable throughout our entire visit. From check-in to check-out, everything was perfectly organized and we felt genuinely well taken care of. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and very thoughtfully equipped. The fireplace was a real highlight and created a warm, cozy atmosphere. The kitchen is excellently equipped, the beds are exceptionally comfortable, and every detail felt well considered. Without any exaggeration, this was by far the best hotel we stayed at during our five-week road trip. We would return without hesitation and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for comfort, quality, and a truly relaxing stay.

Lovely hotel with beautiful lake views. I had an apartment (305.1) with gorgeous views. Two balconies, the large one accessible from the bedroom and living room while the smaller one was accessible from the dining/kitchen area. |The bed was comfortable, there is a pillow menu, and the fireplace(gas) came in handy because it was a bit chilly at night. ||I had a great cheese plate one evening in the reception area which was really nice. Huge shout-out to Benji! He was still fairly new on the job, but really helped me secure a room with great views (after I vetoed the first room-which had a good view, but not an amazing view). Love him for the extra effort. BTW, I think all rooms have a Lake View, just the end units that provide the extra balcony and more windows!||One note, make sure you use the correct credit card at check-in, because you are charged for the entire stay immediately. I wanted to change cards and make a partial cash payment but could not because I had already been charged. I was not accustomed to that as with all other hotels, I generally stay at the room is settled at check-out, with the ability to pay in cash or a different card at that time. I would have understood if I had reserved via Hotels.com or some other booking site, but this was a direct booking and my first experience with their policy.||Nevertheless, I will DEFINITELY stay there again on my Dec 2026 return! Thank you.

My husband and I stayed for a week on our honeymoon. We had absolutely beautiful views of the lake and a large patio. The room was larger than expected with a fireplace and we made good use of the in-room laundry. It was much quieter than those we looked at in downtown Queenstown, yet only 10 minutes away. The free shuttle was super convenient, it runs every hour from the hotel to the main street - just be sure to call and reserve space beforehand. The concierges, especially Jacob, were very helpful with ideas for hikes and dinners. Also, the Rees is one of the few hotels that has a dock - it was great for star-gazing and cold plunges. Overall a great stay!

Had a great stay in a hotel room at The Rees. Rooms are well appointed with outstanding views of the lake. We had a fantastic dinner with excellent service. Our breakfast was not to the same standard of service and was overall chaotic with poor communication between the servers and the chef. The complementary shuttle bus is a great idea and was gratefully used. We tried to order room service but was told it would be a 90 minute wait for 2 pizzas so gave up. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay but a couple of minor staff/service issues prevent this review from being 5/5.

The apartment that we booked there was fabulous and super spacious. It even had a balcony which overlooked the lake. There is a pillow menu, I would recommend the lavender pillow and the lambswool pillow. The staff are all super kind and helpful; they even have an hourly shuttle service into town. We visited there on Christmas Day, and they gave us a sock full of many different treats; I think that is so generous of them to do that. There is also a path that leads you to the lakeshore. Thank you for an amazing stay. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to you!

Google
Beautiful view but if you are staying for friendly service find someplace else. Bathroom became flooded and the girl basically told us to clean it up ourselves with our towels in the room. Not once out of four nights did anyone smile and say hello when we entered. Mostly summer workers who have better places to be and are uninterested in being accommodating to the guests.

This was a lovely, unique hotel on the lake in Queenstown. We ended up being there during a marathon weekend with 13,000 runners and families, which made getting a reservation in the dining room impossible. The wait for food at the non-existent bar was long (over an hour) and underwhelming. A trip into town is about a 10-minute drive , but they do run a shuttle every hour. The big bonus is free guest laundry, including soap ! All rooms face the lake and are reached by a series of stairs and long outdoor hallways. We didn't find the concierge helpful, but Angel, at the front desk, was great. We ordered breakfast to go for the next morning @ $25 each. Could have been shared. The rooms were beautiful, clean, quiet, and had an outstanding view and private balcony. Parking in Queenstown is expensive ($7 per hour) so a hotel in town instead would allow for parking and the ability to walk around without the drive.

Yelp
Stayed there for three nights while on a long trip and it was great to be able to rest up a bit. The hotel is beautiful and the room was roomy and comfortable and included a sofa and sitting area. We had an excellent view of the lake and a large patio. We especially enjoyed the convenience of the mini-bar and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant also provided excellent food and service for us on site. They have a shuttle that runs back and forth to downtown every hour, so we did not have to pay for ride shares or cabs.

Yelp
Location: 5 min drive to downtown and about 10-15 min to the airport. The views are stunning from the lobby and the rooms. There is a free shuttle to downtown but it's best to confirm as some of the set times are only available by request. Rooms: We had the superior 2 bedroom. We had a lovely mountain view from the patio. The fireplace is warm and cozy, even if it's not real wood. The master bedroom opens to the view but the second bedroom is on the smaller side. Kitchen and living room were spacious and everything was very clean. There are heated floors in the bathroom and heated towel racks. The washer and dryer were very good. Service: Front desk service was hit or miss. We checked in twice after spending one night in Te Anau. Some of the staff were friendly and some were stoic. We were unable to eat at the restaurant because it was booked up but the bar menu was delicious and we were able to enjoy the view while eating. They held our luggage for us several times. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I ever come back. The view is gorgeous and the spacious apartment was lovely.

Yelp
Prior to arriving in Queenstown, I had reached out to the concierge to plan an excursion and arrange transportation from the airport. The concierge was able to assist and responded to every email in a timely manner. From the moment we arrived in Queenstown, everything was seamless. Our driver met us at the gate at the airport. He helped with our luggage and drove us around the city for a short tour. The hotel itself is beautiful. From the lobby to the rooms, everything is clean and immaculate. We had booked a 1 bedroom apartment, but were pleasantly surprised when the woman at the reception desk told us that we had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. As soon as we walked in to our room (7121), the first thing I noticed was the view from the living room. We had a panoramic view of the lake and mountains and it was breathtaking. Our apartment was spacious and clean. They supplied us with laundry detergent and dishwasher soap which was great. We used the washer, dryer and dishwasher multiple times during our stay. The kitchen is fully equipped and I was able to make my son breakfast in the morning several times. The kitchen and bathroom floors are heated, which is such a luxury. The fireplace was easy to use as well. I loved that we had an indoor and outdoor dining table. The bed was very comfortable and they also have a pillow bar and we were able to get customized pillows during our stay. Our room had a sliding door that opened to the living room. We would keep it open to wake up to the view every morning. There is a stroller friendly walking trail into town, which takes about 45 minutes. The time goes by quickly because the scenery is such a wonderful distraction. We tried to take the trail at least once a day to get some exercise and soak in the fresh air and views. They also offer a shuttle that runs every hour. The drivers are so personable and helpful. They would load our stroller in and out of the shuttle every time we used it. We had arranged for transportation back to the airport at the end of our stay. Roman was so nice with assisting us with our luggage. I don't have a single complaint about this hotel. It's the best hotel we have ever stayed in and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Yelp
Nice setting, helpful staff, good restaurants but quite isolated. Even if the hotel offers a free shuttle into town once an hour, you permanently have the feeling to be stuck in a golden cage. Btw I was shocked that the hotel doesn't have a pool, considering the high prices...

Yelp
Great experience in queenstown! Everything was seamless from check in to check out. When we arrived it was a little busy but after a short wait we were promptly and efficiently checked in. Our luggage was taken to our room and we were met there by hotel staff to show us how to use all the features of the room such as the heated floors in the bathroom and the tablet for room service. We had a lake view room which was breathtaking! We enjoyed spending hours sitting on our balcony taking it all in. The best was very comfortable, the room was very clean, the bathroom was very modern and nice, and they had a shuttle that would take you into town and back just requiring you to book in advance. Probably a 7 min ride into the city center, but nice to be removed a little especially if you are looking for a nice view! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay excellent hotel!

Yelp
Decent villa type apartment suite hotel room things. I guess there's apartments and there's the hotel side. I dunno. I do not live here. I was just a visitor. I assume I was at the hotel. We had a great view of the lake off the balcony. Also, you can take about 100 stairs down to a fantastic running trail that spans one whole side of the lake. It also leads right into town. The trail is the best part of the entire place. The gym was in a windowless basement type room, but I think that was because the running trail was so good that they wanted to discourage anyone from running on a treadmill. I ran here twice. And I walked to town on here twice. Yeah. The hotel itself was nice too. But the running trail. OMG guys. The trail.

Yelp
Awesome view, pictures are real. Get the lakeside room. Bathroom floors are heated which is a plus. There's a free shuttle that goes into the city every hour. Staff are super nice. You can also book excursions at the concierge desk. Didn't get to try the restaurant but looked cute.

Yelp
view is fantastic. Lake Wakatipu is really closed from rooms. Every single morning is beautiful. I highly recommend to come this cite.

Yelp
Great place to stay. We traveled NZ for 28 days and spent our last three at the Rees. Very clean, great staff, and right in the heart of the area. Walking distance to many pubs, water taxi available. Can't be beat!

Yelp
Nice hotel with great views but really crappy location if you want to do anything. Free shuttle service only available at limited times and for the first eleven people who make a reservation. Next time we visit we will be selecting another option closer to the action.

Yelp
What a lovely property is The Rees!! Commodious rooms, well-maintained, well-appointed, and spotlessly clean. A large and diverse staff extremely friendly, attentive and accommodating; from the Front Desk to the Concierge, to the Bartender, to the Dining Room Wait Staff, to Housekeeping, they will ensure your visit is an enjoyable one! The Dining Room is small, making reservations necessary for dinner, but the location offers magnificent views of the lake and the Remarkables beyond and the cuisine is excellent. On the hour shuttle service to and from downtown and all its attractions is provided - very convenient. We have no compunctions in offering our hearty recommendation of The Rees and are confident you will concur.

Yelp
Very convenient location and attentive and helpful staff. The rooms are luxurious and have great view of the lake and mountains from the windows/balcony. You can take a 40 minute walk to Queenstown by the lake trail or use their free shuttle service to get to town. The concierge helps with arranging any activity during your stay and there is free wifi in the rooms.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I paid $160 a night after all the bullshit and we split it, so it was more like 80$ a night for the each of us and let me tell you....it was money well spent. This place is awesome! They have been very accommodating and the views from our room are amazing. I couldn't be happier. I strongly recommend this place to any couple that is looking for a relaxing and romantic night or two in queenstown.
