We held our wedding reception at The Rees Hotel in Queenstown, and it was nothing short of spectacular. From start to finish, the team went above and beyond to make our day absolutely perfect. A special thank you to Heidi, Enrico, Eugene, Oliver, Max and Grayson — every one of them was incredible. Their professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail made us feel completely at ease and allowed us to simply enjoy the celebration. They anticipated every need before we even asked, ensuring everything ran seamlessly, from the stunning setup and service to the food, drinks and atmosphere. The venue itself is breathtaking, with the most beautiful views over Lake Wakatipu, and the ambience was exactly what we’d dreamed of. Our guests are still raving about how amazing everything was! We can’t recommend The Rees Hotel highly enough, it’s the perfect place for a wedding or any special event. Thank you again to the whole team for creating memories we’ll cherish forever. -Sherwin & Pumi

We recently stayed in a spacious, comfortable three-bedroom apartment at The Rees, which provided a fantastic home base for our Queenstown exploration. The views from the lakeside location are genuinely spectacular, offering a peaceful retreat away from the town center's hustle.||The biggest factor when booking here is the distance: you are a necessary 15-minute drive from the heart of town. The hotel offers a convenient shuttle service, but be warned—you must book your spot in the morning as they do tend to fill up quickly! If you decide to stay longer in town, the team is accommodating and you can usually call to reschedule your ride back, which is a big plus. For those who prefer to stretch their legs, the peaceful two-mile trail into town is a beautiful alternative walk.||The staff were great about getting us settled, offering a shuttle and a quick tour around town to help us get our bearings. This thoughtful touch made the initial navigation much easier.||We did find the on-site restaurant food to be less than spectacular. It's perfectly adequate, and definitely convenient for those nights when you are too tired or lazy to deal with the logistics of getting back into town for dinner, but don't book a stay here based on the culinary experience.||In summary, The Rees offers beautiful, spacious accommodation and is an excellent base for actively exploring Queenstown. However, if your main priority is being able to walk out your door straight to shopping, bars, and restaurants, you might be happier staying right in the town center.

Fabulous stay! We had an amazing 2-night stay with breathtaking views from the Lakeview rooms. Breakfast offered a fantastic selection, and the dining room views were just as stunning. You can enjoy a scenic 35-minute walk along the lakefront into Queenstown, or take advantage of the hotel’s free shuttle or an Uber for about $12. The location is excellent, and we can’t wait to return!

Fabulous 2 night stay in an Executive Lakeview room, huge room, incredible views, and what a view from the bath. Great location in Queenstown as its around a 35 flat beautiful walk around the lakefront from the hotel to the centre of Queenstown and a 30 minute walk in the othe direction to the marina area which has cafes and a couple of bars. They run a free shuttle to Queenstown on the hour and we used uber a couple of times after dinner which was around $12.00NZD. Breakfast was wonderful, great selection and great views again from the dining room. Can't wait to come back.

I gave 4 stars mainly because I feel the price is a bit too high for the room design — I found another option with the same view for around $2.7k, while this one cost $7k for a 5-night stay. That said, 5 stars to the FIL kitchen team — their warm service really stood out and made our trip feel worth it, even though a hot chocolate had a small surcharge. The reception team was also very friendly and helpful. Overall, everything was relaxing and enjoyable. Despite the cost, we left happy and would love to come back again.

We were disappointed by our stay at The Rees. Although the hotel offers a beautiful view, it felt too oriented toward large groups, which affected the overall atmosphere. Our room was located on the same level as the road, and it was quite noisy—both from the traffic and from the groups gathering at the bar and outside at the entrance . Breakfast was overcrowded, very noisy, and not up to what you would expect from a 5-star hotel. The space felt cramped, and the quality of the food at breakfast was just ok. Overall, the experience felt impersonal. For the price and the rating, we expected a much more relaxing and refined stay.

We loved our recent stay at the Rees. We had a 3 bedroom apartment that suited our family of 4 adults perfectly. The rooms are clean, well managed and the layout is perfect. Our reason for 4 stars is that they are a little bit outdated. The service was perfect and the location was divine. We found the shuttle service to be convenient, and if we ever missed it, it was easy and affordable to get an Uber instead. Loved my morning coffees in the lobby. Thank you team for making my flat white every morning. We found the staff to be polite, helpful and accommodating. The continental buffet was excellent, yet if you are someone who likes a warm hearty breakfast, you may prefer to go into town. Still, highly recommended and if we were to return to Queenstown we would return to the Rees.

I wish that I could separate staff from the accommodations. Staff were excellent - 5 stars.||The lobby had a quaint comfortable sitting area that doubled as a bar. Great for a drink after a long day. The dining room had great food and service.||Our room was large with a large balcony, with a skylight, that overlooked the bay. Truly a prime location! The sink in the bathroom was a large canoe shaped bowl that overtook the entire counter leaving no room for sundries. The mattress could use replacing and the TV could use a swivel so it could be more easily viewed. The coffee bar was tiny and overcrowded and there was only tea. Just a few minor issues that became annoying after a couple of days. 3 stars. Still, we would come back.

Yelp
Stayed there for three nights while on a long trip and it was great to be able to rest up a bit. The hotel is beautiful and the room was roomy and comfortable and included a sofa and sitting area. We had an excellent view of the lake and a large patio. We especially enjoyed the convenience of the mini-bar and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant also provided excellent food and service for us on site. They have a shuttle that runs back and forth to downtown every hour, so we did not have to pay for ride shares or cabs.

Yelp
Location: 5 min drive to downtown and about 10-15 min to the airport. The views are stunning from the lobby and the rooms. There is a free shuttle to downtown but it's best to confirm as some of the set times are only available by request. Rooms: We had the superior 2 bedroom. We had a lovely mountain view from the patio. The fireplace is warm and cozy, even if it's not real wood. The master bedroom opens to the view but the second bedroom is on the smaller side. Kitchen and living room were spacious and everything was very clean. There are heated floors in the bathroom and heated towel racks. The washer and dryer were very good. Service: Front desk service was hit or miss. We checked in twice after spending one night in Te Anau. Some of the staff were friendly and some were stoic. We were unable to eat at the restaurant because it was booked up but the bar menu was delicious and we were able to enjoy the view while eating. They held our luggage for us several times. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I ever come back. The view is gorgeous and the spacious apartment was lovely.

Yelp
Prior to arriving in Queenstown, I had reached out to the concierge to plan an excursion and arrange transportation from the airport. The concierge was able to assist and responded to every email in a timely manner. From the moment we arrived in Queenstown, everything was seamless. Our driver met us at the gate at the airport. He helped with our luggage and drove us around the city for a short tour. The hotel itself is beautiful. From the lobby to the rooms, everything is clean and immaculate. We had booked a 1 bedroom apartment, but were pleasantly surprised when the woman at the reception desk told us that we had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. As soon as we walked in to our room (7121), the first thing I noticed was the view from the living room. We had a panoramic view of the lake and mountains and it was breathtaking. Our apartment was spacious and clean. They supplied us with laundry detergent and dishwasher soap which was great. We used the washer, dryer and dishwasher multiple times during our stay. The kitchen is fully equipped and I was able to make my son breakfast in the morning several times. The kitchen and bathroom floors are heated, which is such a luxury. The fireplace was easy to use as well. I loved that we had an indoor and outdoor dining table. The bed was very comfortable and they also have a pillow bar and we were able to get customized pillows during our stay. Our room had a sliding door that opened to the living room. We would keep it open to wake up to the view every morning. There is a stroller friendly walking trail into town, which takes about 45 minutes. The time goes by quickly because the scenery is such a wonderful distraction. We tried to take the trail at least once a day to get some exercise and soak in the fresh air and views. They also offer a shuttle that runs every hour. The drivers are so personable and helpful. They would load our stroller in and out of the shuttle every time we used it. We had arranged for transportation back to the airport at the end of our stay. Roman was so nice with assisting us with our luggage. I don't have a single complaint about this hotel. It's the best hotel we have ever stayed in and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Yelp
Nice setting, helpful staff, good restaurants but quite isolated. Even if the hotel offers a free shuttle into town once an hour, you permanently have the feeling to be stuck in a golden cage. Btw I was shocked that the hotel doesn't have a pool, considering the high prices...

Yelp
Great experience in queenstown! Everything was seamless from check in to check out. When we arrived it was a little busy but after a short wait we were promptly and efficiently checked in. Our luggage was taken to our room and we were met there by hotel staff to show us how to use all the features of the room such as the heated floors in the bathroom and the tablet for room service. We had a lake view room which was breathtaking! We enjoyed spending hours sitting on our balcony taking it all in. The best was very comfortable, the room was very clean, the bathroom was very modern and nice, and they had a shuttle that would take you into town and back just requiring you to book in advance. Probably a 7 min ride into the city center, but nice to be removed a little especially if you are looking for a nice view! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay excellent hotel!

Yelp
Decent villa type apartment suite hotel room things. I guess there's apartments and there's the hotel side. I dunno. I do not live here. I was just a visitor. I assume I was at the hotel. We had a great view of the lake off the balcony. Also, you can take about 100 stairs down to a fantastic running trail that spans one whole side of the lake. It also leads right into town. The trail is the best part of the entire place. The gym was in a windowless basement type room, but I think that was because the running trail was so good that they wanted to discourage anyone from running on a treadmill. I ran here twice. And I walked to town on here twice. Yeah. The hotel itself was nice too. But the running trail. OMG guys. The trail.

Yelp
Awesome view, pictures are real. Get the lakeside room. Bathroom floors are heated which is a plus. There's a free shuttle that goes into the city every hour. Staff are super nice. You can also book excursions at the concierge desk. Didn't get to try the restaurant but looked cute.

Yelp
view is fantastic. Lake Wakatipu is really closed from rooms. Every single morning is beautiful. I highly recommend to come this cite.

Yelp
Great place to stay. We traveled NZ for 28 days and spent our last three at the Rees. Very clean, great staff, and right in the heart of the area. Walking distance to many pubs, water taxi available. Can't be beat!

Yelp
Nice hotel with great views but really crappy location if you want to do anything. Free shuttle service only available at limited times and for the first eleven people who make a reservation. Next time we visit we will be selecting another option closer to the action.

Yelp
What a lovely property is The Rees!! Commodious rooms, well-maintained, well-appointed, and spotlessly clean. A large and diverse staff extremely friendly, attentive and accommodating; from the Front Desk to the Concierge, to the Bartender, to the Dining Room Wait Staff, to Housekeeping, they will ensure your visit is an enjoyable one! The Dining Room is small, making reservations necessary for dinner, but the location offers magnificent views of the lake and the Remarkables beyond and the cuisine is excellent. On the hour shuttle service to and from downtown and all its attractions is provided - very convenient. We have no compunctions in offering our hearty recommendation of The Rees and are confident you will concur.

Yelp
Very convenient location and attentive and helpful staff. The rooms are luxurious and have great view of the lake and mountains from the windows/balcony. You can take a 40 minute walk to Queenstown by the lake trail or use their free shuttle service to get to town. The concierge helps with arranging any activity during your stay and there is free wifi in the rooms.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I paid $160 a night after all the bullshit and we split it, so it was more like 80$ a night for the each of us and let me tell you....it was money well spent. This place is awesome! They have been very accommodating and the views from our room are amazing. I couldn't be happier. I strongly recommend this place to any couple that is looking for a relaxing and romantic night or two in queenstown.
