This is excellent in many ways. I love the decor and ambiance. It’s not quiet, but nobody is raising their voice. Service was quick, drinks were delicious. I had the hand cut sweet potatoes topped with brisket and Carolina mustard sauce and BBQ sauce for my dinner. It was listed as an appetizer, just $20. and I could only eat half of it. I’ll dream of it for a long time!!!!!

Google
My wife and i both had the BBQ sampler It has pulled chicken, pulled pork, brisket, ribs, baked beans, coleslaw and fries. The food was excellent. They make a very good old fashioned as well. It is very loud inside. I would definitely eat there again.

We always make a point of dining at the Refinery when we vacation in the area. They have the absolute best brisket I've ever had. Their brisket plate included huge portion of brisket, yummy corn bread, baked beans and fries. Seriously big portions! Not cheap but you definitely get your money's worth. The atmosphere is good, there are two large dining rooms. We've never had to wait to be seated. The service was great, wait staff professional and pleasant. Restrooms were large and clean. The desert bar between the two dining rooms had some wonderful take home treats. We'll be back again next year.

After biking a portion of the rail trail, we pulled into the Refinery and were SO impressed! Loved the natural wood, rustic chic vibe. We were famished and did not have to wait very long for our food!

John H.

Google
After being recommended the BBQ at the Refinery we ordered two brisket plates for dinner and a mocktail. The mocktail was good. The sides like the fries, corn bread, beans and coleslaw were all well done, albeit the fries on the warm side rather than hot when coming out. The main problem was that the brisket, was overdone and stringy. Nothing was offered other than a "Thanks for your feedback." Won't be coming back.

Google
This place is an absolute gem! The seating is spaced very well. You won't have anybody close enough to the point where you have to yell to talk to someone right in front of you, which i definitely enjoy. The servers are always friendly and will always make sure your meal is good. The price point is a bit high, but it is high-quality food, so it's definitely worth it. I personally highly recommend the pulled pork and definitely the fried mushrooms! My dad always gets a large order, and they are mostly gone in about 3 minutes 😆. The atmosphere is great for a family night out or a date or really any occasion. I highly recommend this absolute gem that is The Refinery God Bless! ~ Chris

Google
Tasty and Delicious food! Not from the area, but stopped here for dinner while visiting with friends. Restaurant was packed so I recommend making a reservation if planning to stop by on the weekend during peak dinner hours. Great steaks and BBQ… brisket fries were melt in your mouth and my ribeye steak was cooked to perfection! Will definitely be back!

The pork chops are exceptional- delicious, fresh, and generous! We had excellent and attentive service from our waitress Alexa this evening. Highly recommend!

Yelp
What a nice place! I was staying the night in Andover and this was one of the recommended restaurants from our AirBNB host. We went on a Saturday night and called ahead to make a reservation, but the employee on the phone said it was a slow night... but it was so busy! I can't imagine what a busy night looks like. The parking lot (one of them, at least) was mostly full and people were parking on the street. Slow night! There's a to-go market when you walk in that you can order desserts or meats from as well as some other goods, which is so cute. It's nice and clean inside, and the atmosphere is almost upscale, but there's still a down to earth vibe in the place. I had the cheese curds with marinara as an appetizer, which were wonderful. My chicken pesto caprese on ciabatta was good but it did taste like something was missing- but I couldn't tell you what. But the sweet potato fries were great! My boyfriend really liked his barbecue pork sandwich too. It may seem like it's the only restaurant in Andover, but at least it's a good one. Check it out!

Yelp
I'm normally skeptical of places that have a large menu in addition to a barbecue section. Normally, the barbecue isn't that great, but The Refinery is an exception! I had a deliciously tender brisket sandwich. The Carolina-style, vinegar-based barbecue sauce was perfect. They have a great selection of local and regional beers to pair with any meal. I got the special soup of the day (potato leek), which was tasty as well. My wife was happy with her buffalo chicken tenders and waffle fries. The other two people in our party enjoyed the Nashville-style hot chicken sandwich and a couple of their margaritas, too. I'd recommend reservations, as this place is very busy even until late on the weekends. Olivia took great care of our table.

Yelp
Love the Nashville chicken sandwich. Always have a great time as staff are very nice. Good drinks too

Yelp
I liked my friend's steak way more than the seared tuna I ordered. I also liked my other friend's French fries more than the sweet potato fries I got which were a bit soggy. Service was good. Spacious interior.

Yelp
I'm surprised reviewers don't mention the noise level in the restaurant. It was impossible to carry a conversation with four people. The other thing I found off putting were the enormous portion sizes! I know a lot of people love seeing huge food coming at them, but it just isn't appealing to me. This area of the state is full of older folks, who wants a noisy restaurant with more food than you can eat? I didn't find the restaurant expensive which is what most people complain about, because you do get a lot of food but geez, it's just not our style.

Steve P.

Yelp
Brynne was our waitress. She did a superb job attending to all our needs. Although she was unable to answer all our questions, she responded with "I don't know" But then would immediately go into the kitchen to get the answer. She was very gracious & smiled often. She's one of the best servers I can remember in a very long time and merits the largest tip.
google avatar

Kiera T.

Yelp
Friendly staff and great menu. The atmosphere is upscale but not stuffy. Never had a bad meal there.

Yelp
I grew up in the area and was so pleased to see this place appear as there's nothing in the area. Took a while to get here and only had time for takeout but omg. The sandwiches were outrageous. The meats were perfect, flavorful, juicy. Sandwiches were put together perfectly and even the side salad was a perfect size and super fresh. Can't wait to go back for a sit down meal. The picture doesn't do justice at all and I deleted one by accident. The Cuban was amazing. Photo is the brisket-equally amazing. , sooooo gooood.

Yelp
We go semi- frequently, and the food is always great but the baked beans are a standout (thank you chefs)! What made today effing awesome was Ashley the bartender and our bagel conversation. IYKYK.

Yelp
Yippee ki yay y'all! Finally got here!! I absolutely love the decor and comforting atmosphere. Large tent outside for outdoor dining or dine in. Plenty of parking. Large menu selection. You definitely get a bang for your buck. We had the combo platter that had brisket, ribs, pulled chicken and pork, beans, coleslaw, fries, and cornbread. Where do I start. All meats were fantastic and so tender. Awesome smokey flavor. The beans were outstanding. I'm so picky on my coleslaw and it was perfect. The cornbread is a tiny morsel and I wish it was bigger. I had the marinated steak tips chef selection which means it is grilled with a sauce and comes with fried onions. You could cut the meat with a butter knife. So flavorful. Comes with a side salad and 2 sides. The loaded potatoe had chili on it!! We did have a cup of chili and we loved it!!! My husband literally could not stop talking about how good the food was the entire time he was eating. He also said I better rate this review a 5/5. We had a coconut cannoli and key lime pie. The cannoli was very good but the key lime pie was simply out of this world. I will be thinking about it for days. They have a deli counter and you can order platters, sides, or fresh meat/fish to go. They have a wonderful dessert counter (picture included). Closed Sunday-Tuesday.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday evening. We got there before the restaurant became crowded. Not a lot of ambiance in the large dining room where we were seated. I purchased a double Amaretto on the rocks which cost about 19.00. Given that it was a double I didn't think that was out of line. The walk-up bar service was prompt and friendly. We ordered appetizers - BBQ wings which were very good and plenty for sharing. My husband had the Chicken and Fixens. It was a grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes and green beans. The meal also came with a dinner salad. His overall impression was the dinner was "ok" adding he thought it was bland a little pricey. I had the chef salad which was supposed to come with ham, turkey, avocado, bacon, cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, hard boiled egg, and croutons. I really didn't see much ham or turkey, the bacon, cheeses and croutons were totally absent and the "avocado" was about a tablespoon of what looked like guacamole. The ranch dressing made the salad. I also ordered a cup of the Bisque of Roasted Tomatoes and Onions, which was good. We finished off with a Key Lime Pie for dessert, which was good. The Service was truly excellent - friendly and attentive. I gave this four stars because of the service. Otherwise, with the exception of dessert, the food is just "ok" and we thought pricey. We would need a special occasion to go back since it's a bit of a drive for us to get there.

Yelp
Great cozy clean spot! Food was delicious, big portions, best BBQ ever! Staff was awesome!

Yelp
The food was amazing! Brisket, chicken wings, fried mushrooms, all delicious. The Bloody Mary was right on the spicy . The staff was friendly and very efficient.

Yelp
Great food. And nice touch with the Veteran Only parking. Baby back ribs fell off the bone, and the fried cheese curds were delish. Pulled pork quesadilla was plentiful and really a meal in itself.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious spot to eat! Sandwiches proved to be a big success. Great choice of sides. Lean meat! Big portions. Taking half home.

Yelp
Visited on a busy Saturday around lunch time. The service was great. Friendly and comfortable environment. We tried the rib plate and a side salad. The food came out quickly and was delicious!

Yelp
Fantastic service with delicious food and great portion sizes. We went early in the dinner service so it was quieter.

Yelp
My Asian Beef Salad was very fresh, great combination of textures.  The bright colors were enticing to the eye and the stomach!  The crispy onions on the top of the salad were yummy.   Superb! The 'Beef Brisket' was juicy, tender, moist, and delicious.  The smoky flavor I would say is the best I have ever tasted.  I would knight AJ the 'KING' of barbeque.   Meeting the chef (AJ) was the highlight of my evening.  His rich and spicy combinations are incredible.   I felt honored to have him stop by our table, chat with customers, and meet my service dog 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown' (a/k/a Molly).  Thank you for talking with us and making us feel that my feedback was valuable and listened to.   The Refinery is a lovely place for dining with family and friends. Great experience and we will be back! Thanks for making our evening! Very Respectfully, Heidi Tobin

Yelp
A most welcome addition to the Kearsarge/Lake Sunapee restaurant selection. This place has been on the planning stages for the better part of two years, but bureaucratic tangles took a toll on its opening. But now it's open and it's definitely a wow. For starters, the two owners have a varied and wonderful history with food establishments. AJ is ostensibly the undisputed King of Barbecue. We've enjoyed his truck's superb selections at several private events and charity fund raisers. Brian was the chef and owner of the Inn at Pleasant Lake, a Select Registry Inn that was, and still is, one of the best fine dining experiences ever. The joining of both minds has resulted in one amazing place to dine. Their barbecue selections are superb. We tried both the pulled pork and chicken and they were both amazing. The aroma of the huge rib racks being carried by the waitstaff made me hungry just watching them. The restaurant has a full bar with four or five large TV screens with a large seating area. There is also a large dining room, a takeaway restaurant area with both cooked dishes and a raw, fine meats selection. There are also numerous salads and a dessert counter. The wait staff is friendly and obviously experienced. I talked to a couple of waitresses who also work at a superb daytime only place. Service here was outstanding. Overall a superb dining experience. Yes, the noise level is a bit high but the overall experience more than made up for it.

Yelp
Get the pork chop. You're welcome. Nice place, ambiance is nice. They have a small section where they sell items made there. I'll definitely go back.

Yelp
What a cool place near Ragged Mountain Resort. Decided to try the closest restaurant to the mountain and it was very good. Tidy and upscale appearance. Pretty bartender Sonya took very good care of us. Refilled Dr Peppers without even asking. I tried the Lemon Pepper chicken entree with a side Salad, grilled asparagus, and rice pilaf. It was good but I would try another option next time. My buddy got the BBQ Combo platter and it looked very good. 60$ or so for 2 big ass entrees and some sodas. Overall i would 100% recommend popping into the Refinery!

Yelp
Cute spot. Was on a road trip and turned off the highway to grab a bite to eat! Waitresses were super kind! Highly recommend the fried mushrooms and the pulled pork sandwich.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch. Felt very comfortable sitting in the tent. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Food prices were good, had the pulled pork sandwich, very moist. Service was good. If they pumped music into the tent, even better. Will be back!

Yelp
We stopped in for a quick bite and sat at the bar. Service was quick, friendly and welcoming. I had a very good pulled pork sandwich with a side of orzo salad , which was better than the one I make. My husband had a brisket sandwich, which he was still raving about this morning! Pat was our bartender, along with another guy whose name I didn't catch. He was very attentive, took our order promptly, checked in with us to make sure everything was okay and made our experience very enjoyable. We are looking forward to our next visit the next time we are in the area.

Darryl P.

Yelp
The food is delicious! Our waitress was the best ! Huge smile and knew how to play to the customer! This was our second time there...I'm sure the waitress "Carol" probably doesn't remember us...I wouldn't expect her to, she was soooo pregnant the first time, this time we got to meet the cutest curly haired little girl...she just happened to be there with a party. Anyway, great food, great service and an atmosphere to boot...everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves! Keep up the great job!

Yelp
This has become our go to spot. The service is outstanding and the food is the best. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. All of the smoked meats are done perfectly. There is something for everyone on their extensive menu. They always have a great beer selection and the cocktails are very nice and seasonal. We have also made a habit of stopping in their market and taking home the best Buffalo chicken dip we have had and a few desserts.
google avatar

Donald M.

Yelp
Good, plentiful food. Pricing is fair and ambiance good though a bit noisy at times. Service is always excellent. Their ribs are a bit on the smoky side for my taste but still very good.

M M.

Yelp
Everything was amazing! We had the brisket sweet fries for an appetizer, and the Ruben sandwich along with the ribeye for dinner. Loved the vibe there also.

Yelp
Space is clean & decor good - although the smaller "back room" feels like a cafeteria. Food is nothing to crow about, however. Guacamole was obviously not fresh (that day - I was told - but it had obviously been sitting in a fridge for a long time, and had that characteristic brown surface with green underneath). It was devoid of flavor. Salsa was obviously not fresh (how hard is it to make a good pico?) & undoubtedly way too spicy for most. The brisket looked & tasted good if you like smokey BBQ, but was dry as a bone. My southern-born, BBQ-raised daughter refused to touch it. Chicken (on salad) had a weird texture... suspect it was the rubbery low-quality chicken that some have resorted to, coated & deep-fried on site. My BLT was average, to be generous. The potato salad was the only really good thing on our table. Had they not refused to seat my family - including a 9yo - because I was running late, I may not have cared about the delay before anybody came to get our order. Generally overpriced, but since this was my first (and maybe only) visit, I have no idea what impact disruptions to the food supply has had. Will I return? I can't rule it out... the number of restaurants in the area is shockingly low. Maybe this is why it appears to be so popular - they're the best amongst a bunch of really poor quality establishments. I would give it 2 stars, but they deserve one for the physical environment.

Yelp
My Son and his family took me here tonight and it was fabulous. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The wait staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Everything from the appetizers, cocktails, salads and entrees were incredible. May be one of the best steaks I've ever had. Perfectly charred with buttery tender portion. Can't say enough about this experience.
google avatar

Jon S.

Yelp
Pretty much the best food I've had in New Hampshire. And I'm a fat guy. See you again soon:

Pete H.

Yelp
I went with a party of 10 ,service was very good . The table had Fried mushrooms and nachos for apps. The group had steak tips ,BBQ combo, racks of ribs, salads, all were good. Good selection of draft Beer and drinks

K K.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped for a lovely outdoor dining experience this past weekend. My husband went with the rib dinner And I did the soup and salad combo (tomato bisque and Asian beef salad). The food was amazing and the service was great. Care was taken to help people feel Comfortable. We will be back every chance we get!

Joe S.

Yelp
Had a great meal at The Refinery with the family. Cod special was delicious. Kid meals were great. Salad dressings were very good. Fresh salads. Service was efficient. Good times had by all

Yelp
Disappointing. I hope that we found it on an off night, but in all honesty it is far enough away that we most likely won't go back to give them another chance. Hostess asked us to wait while she checked to see if a table was ready when we can plainly see at least 3-4 clear tables. After a few minutes we were seated, and eventually a very nice waitress came to take our orders. This was an odd experience all around. Our appetizer, chicken tenders was quite good, though they gave us a tiny amount of BBQ sauce that tasted suspiciously like sweet baby ray's from the supermarket. I got steak tips, which comes with two sides and a salad. If you're going to offer a salad with an entree, at least give a guy time to actually eat it before bringing the main plate. I've had worse steak, and this was solidly average. Inexplicably, they brought another table knife instead of a steak knife with the steak tips. Had the waitress asked, the "grilled asparagus" sure looked steamed or boiled, but room temperature veggies are at least palatable, which I can't say for the room temperature fries. Interestingly, the otherwise nice waitress took no interest in the fact that the huge stack of cold fries remained when she cleared our plates. They have put in quite an effort to create a nice aesthetic, but skimped on sound proofing so even at half capacity, it is loud. I had to keep asking my wife to keep repeating herself. After another half the tables had cleared, I noticed they are actually playing music! So it isn't enough that it is an uncomfortably loud space to begin with.

David J.

Yelp
Very nice ambiance. Good liquor options and food is done right. It's expensive for sure but you get what you pay for.

Yelp
We were just riding our motorcycles and asked where there was a good BBQ place. The Refinery was recommended. We eat at a lot of BBQ places. This has to be the best, tasty, large portions and priced reasonably. The potato salad and fresh fried mushrooms were out of this world. Owners and chef came out to check on and talk to us making us feel at home. Because of Covid we sat outside under a large tent but it was a great day definitely a return trip even if is a two hour ride.
google avatar

Bob C.

Yelp
We thought this was the typical dive BBQ joint from the outside, but it's not. Beautiful inside. The food is outstanding, LARGE portions and great staff. Last visit I had the Briskit sandwich, everything about it was perfect. Wife had the ribs, fall off the bone, nice smoke flavor and the sauces are excellent. Wife loves the fried mushroom appetizer. Me, the hand cut fires are perfect. Nice beer list of tap too!
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
We are so disappointed in this new restaurant! We went for the first time last night. We knew it would be loud, but we were willing to give it a try because we had heard great reviews about the food. I got the Lemon Chicken. I only ate less than half of it because it was dry and overcooked. My partner has the Chicken Caprese sandwich. He said the sandwich was very good but his French Fries were mushy and gross. He did not eat them. Our server was sweet, but she never asked why we didn't eat so much of our food. Given the exorbitant noise level and the bad first impression, we will not be going back. I really wanted to write a rave review today, but sadly cannot.

Yelp
We utilized their catering for our daughter's wedding at the Andover Barn. They did not disappoint!!! Wonderful food, Brian worked with our daughter and her fiance to ensure their menu was perfect. Plenty of food and delicious!

Mary M.

Yelp
We had a party of 11 with two babies. Alexa, our waitress, was so patient, kind and professional! The food was delicious! Service was outstanding. It was a great evening celebrating my husband's birthday!

Megan T.

Yelp
We had an absolutely amazing experience last night at the Refinery. We had called ahead a few days early for an eleven person table for my dad's birthday, and they accommodated is perfectly. Food was outstanding, and our server, Alexa, did an awesome job. Thank you!
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
Wait staff was great! Food was good but expected more at these prices. Good BBQ means homemade sauces not Sweet Baby Rays. Would like to have seen a bigger beer selection too. Will give them another try in the future.
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
Good food. Pretty noisy on a Saturday night but we managed a conversation. Good service.
google avatar

Aide M.

Yelp
We were very hungry after a long trip, so maybe that's why some of us loved the food, and a couple said the BBQ is better in Texas, where we live. Some of us liked the pulled pork sandwich, and others liked the chili and the brisket sandwich. The kids menu is good, the pulled pork for kids was great, and it comes with a side, milk and ice cream. Not bad for the price. However, the rest of the menu has high prices for what it is. We had the fried cheese (don't remember what this appetizer is called) it was ok.

Elise K.

Yelp
Very nicely decorated and clean. Delicious casual menu: barbecue, salads, sandwiches and sides. Lovely selection of desserts! Also several entrees of fish and steaks.
google avatar

Brianna-Lee A.

Yelp
Those were absolutely the best fried mushrooms I've ever had in my life, hands down. I absolutely would recommend and go back. I had the grilled chicken caprese with a side salad and Asian dressing and my significant other had a brisket sandwich with fries, and both meals were absolutely on par and perfect.

Janice G.

Yelp
This is my new fav restaurant! Amazing food! The best BBQ ever! Beats Nashville hands down. Very bright and comfortable ambiance. Drinks really reasonable, sadly too full to try dessert menu which looked beautiful! Owners, Brian & AJ, are great people and citizens of the community! Thank you! Jan PS Molly, our server was a gem!
