Google
The staff is extremely rude and the one time our family was visiting from Mexico, they didn’t allow them in because they didn’t have a US ID. The manger, blonde broad, was extremely rude. We live a couple blocks away and ever since this incident we have never been back, but we’re glad we have Pete’s Place, the service, drinks and overall ambiance doesn’t even compare to this bar.

Angel T.

Google
This place was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the environment and people. They have a Pool table as well.

Jonette Y.

Google
There was a taco truck outside and the carne asada tacos were delicious!! Chill bar, nice bartenders!

Francisco Fajardo N.

Google
Rude people. Worst place in La Mesa Blv. Can you guess why is it always empty?

Rafael S.

Google
It's our favorite neighborhood bar, while we don't live in La Mesa, we are not far. Bartenders are always very nice, patient, and serve really good drinks. Free popcorn is always tasty when available. Drinks are priced perfectly. Outside area is awesome.

Janee P.

Google
So much fun!! Best bartenders hands down. Kareoke Friday nights are so awesome!! The whole bar sings with you!! Great atmosphere and just and overall cool bar!!! One of my favs!!! Cheers!

Tricia G.

Google
It's a nice bar with an outdoor patio area that is very nice. They have one pool table and a shuffle board. The bar is bright and airy unlike most bars that are like a stale cave. When I was there they had a nice friendly crowd, very welcoming. The bar tender was fantastic, his name is Noah and he was attentive, efficient and super nice and personable. I will definately regular this bar as I am a local.

Google
The bartender there made me an honest drink which I appreciate.. I'll be back. Thank you! Lots of fun here... 👍 Thursdays and Fridays Taco truck or back. Good stuff.

Yelp
I was introduced to Regal by a friend because she was hung up on a guy who lived in the area so of course she found any excuse to appear in his neighborhood all prettied up on a Friday night. What better way to coax me into co-lurking someone? Oh I don't know, cheap alcohol? Well fortunately nobody endured the awkwardness of running into the man in question but I'll say that Regal may be La Mesa's one little gem worth visiting. I don't know if it's because I'm in my 30's but I prefer Regal over Coin Haus and The Hills. Why? Let me break it down: - Full service bar vs. beer only - No line out the door vs. line out the door - Mature locals vs. barely 21 IG content creators - Bar on the main strip near cute shops vs. the isolated bar up the hill So if you want the IG story tag with the novelty bells and whistles, the lukewarm beer, and the sub-par food, you go to Coin Haus. If you want something isolated and away from the main strip where you need to line up outside with all the Riff Raffs and Eminems, you go to The Hills Pub. I've done both a handful of times but I prefer the affordable and clean Regal bar where I can choose my usual poison then disappear into the patio. What else can I say? It's a local bar and it's not a bad one.

Yelp
Don't go there if the Rose Marie is doing the sound I've been there several times and I decided people are very good she actually I'm the second song which took me 2 hours she left the building and give me a mic that died 2 minutes into the song and she knew it don't go there cuz they only want locals

Yelp
Very fun bar with many different types of people. Love Friday karaoke! Has decent priced drinks, snacks and extra outdoor seating. Would say with how popular it is, in my opinion, they could use one more bartender but it's no bad wait times. The current staff are nice and move well. Would recommend.

Yelp
Bartender was great!!! She was so busy with it being trivia night, but didn't make it seem like it was your fault like I've had before at other places. The ambience was so fun watching the padre game outside.

Sharan D.

Yelp
I have such mixed emotions leaving this review because the actual staff - bartenders, bar backs etc were so nice but the lady who ran the karaoke is so disingenuous. My mother and I arrived at 9:30 pm on a Friday specifically for karaoke. I put our names down hesitantly being told we were 10th in line. An hour passed and we were told we were 5th in line - suspect yes, considering our initial estimate, but we let it go. Another 45 minutes went by and our name was not called. Another patron of the bar approached to ask if we were considering singing to which I replied, "well of course, our name has been down for ages". He, a perfect stranger, went up to inquire on our position and was told 4th in line. After I had witnessed no less than 5 people go up in between the last time I had been told I was 5th in line. Defeated, at 11 something pm, we decided to leave. What a shame. In actuality, I do feel as though the karaoke moderator had a lovely voice herself, but she was so fixated on duets with attractive male customers, she lost sight of her actual role. Pretty disappointing considering my mom had traveled from afar to visit. I had promised her karaoke. Better luck next time I guess.

Yelp
Went here in a whim and I was pleasantly surprised. Great crowd, good drinks and a great atmosphere overall. I haven't been to a bar I really enjoyed in a long time, this place is now the exception.

A M.

Yelp
Good drinks and patrons, they have a pool table and about four TVs inside. Jukebox available but the NFL game was on so unable test. We had a great time. Perks, trolley stop at the bottom of the street to take you home safely.

Yelp
Happy Hour at 3:00 in the afternoon on a Saturday? In San Diego County? Welcome to The Regal Bar in the La Mesa Village! $4 cans of White Claw, $6 pints of Pacifico. Served up by our bartender du jour Chad. Hell yes! The Regal is a fairly small place. The bar itself has seating for about 20 and there is a smattering of tables. A pool table takes up some floor space and there is shuffleboard along the wall. There is an uncovered patio out back. The Regal is dog friendly. We met Louie while we were there. He was such a cool dog. Fresh from the groomer, Louie was loooking pretty spiffy! As we were sitting there, I had a strong case of Deja vu. I had been here before. Then it hit me. As a 20-something college student nearly 30 years ago, I was in this very bar when it was called Joe and Andy's. Some guys from one of my classes were in a band and had a gig at then Joe and Andy's. There is a small enclave behind the door, that's where the drum kit was set up. The guitarist was on the right and the bassist was in front of the door. The crowd clearly exceeded the legal occupancy total. I remember thinking: "If there's a fire, all of our lives are in the hands of a bass player". LOL! Thankfully, there was no fire. Compared to the dive that Joe and Andy's was, The Regal is indeed quite regal! Enough of memory lane. Becky and I had just one each while at The Regal. Our bar tab was 10 bucks, hell yeah we'd return!

Andres R.

Yelp
Amber is the most knowledgeable bartender and is so hospitable, makes the best old fashioned drinks. She keeps the bar clean and the atmosphere is exceptional.

David N.

Yelp
Love the Regal. Been going there for many years. The drinks are well prepared and pretty inexpensive. The bartenders are friendly and keep everything running smoothly. As others have mentioned, the Regal is dog friendly and the outdoors area is great. My only complaint is the 4% service charge that is added on all bills. The service charge is added before the subtotal, so if you aren't paying attention (and really, who is) you will tip on the service charge as well. I wish management would be brave and just raise prices if necessary. A service charge is sneaky.
google avatar

Antonio O.

Yelp
Service is top notch, and the crowd is awesome. They allow dogs as long as they're respectful unlike another spot a couple doors down.
google avatar

Luke W.

Yelp
I'm a regular here and most of the time things are great but my main issue is one of the bartenders. I believe his name is Tristan. He's just very aloof, doesn't make the effort to talk to the customers and on top of that other bartenders have to go out of there way to ask him for help when it's busy because if they don't he kind of just stands there. It's just very unprofessional and it's uncomfortable being around and trying to talk to someone who doesn't really look like he cares to be there.

Madi G.

Yelp
staff is always awesome, noah is super nice and makes sure folks feel safe drinks are great too!!

J T.

Yelp
Had an amazing time at The Regal Bar tonight. Met up with a friend I haven't seen for a while and the bartender Amber provided us with a great experience. She was both attentive and had a great vibe while procuring the best drinks possible! And the Padres won!!

Anlleyn V.

Yelp
A friend from Mexico came to visit and they didn't allow her in. They said it was because her Mexican passport and visa didn't have a physical description of her (height-eye color). But it obviously showed her picture so it made so sense. She even tried using her Mexican ID and we explained she was visiting but they still said no. Guard and the door and the manager were extremely rude to us. Don't want to say it was a race thing but if it wasn't, then they just don't allow tourists visiting from other countries. My husband and I just bought a home in La Mesa, therefore we are very disappointed this was one of the first experiences we had in this city.

Yelp
It's okay nothing to rave about it's a local dive bar no big deal ! Bartender was way nice and it really seems to be a chill place no bad vibes ! The locals look at me all crazy because I'm a chargers fan and it seems they all fallow each other on the neighborhood and decided to not be chargers fans ! Lol go to different areas of San Diego and you get chargers fans ! Just not many in La mesa hahaha ! One guy out if 20 I'd say ! Not the scene I'm use to ! Al well it's a fine place

Yelp
The owner was so amazing. Poured a perfect drink. Offered popcorn and kept the party going can't wait to go back.

Jessie G.

Yelp
I love this bar. It always has a good vibe and the bartenders are amazing especially Grace!! She always remembers what I drink when I come in plus she's hot so I'll will definitely be back!!

Yelp
A good friend of mine just started hosting Friday night karaoke there! Starting at 9pm. Come on out & sing some tunes.

Jared H.

Yelp
Great place been coming here for years never had any issues. Bartenders a F ING amazing. If you want a good spot to go this is it.
google avatar

Alfred A.

Yelp
I like the regal bar!!! It's a cool little place to hang out and chill, have a few drinks and play some pool. I like the patio area with the little fireplace... it's a decent place to catch a game or hang with buddies before moving on to the next spot.
google avatar

Craft D.

Yelp
Fantastic Post Pandemic spot! Saturday night music is on point! See Chad for drinks...
google avatar

James E.

Yelp
Came in for a beer or two while my wife was at work. The bartender was nice and accommodating. Nice little quaint spot with good options to eat around. Good spot for beer with friends. Not really a dive bar though, if that's your thing, I only mentioned because that was something I was looking for while in the area.
google avatar

Nette B.

Yelp
Hello La Mesa Bars- Nette B. is in your hood. :) What a hidden gem in Downtown La Mesa. Pac and I were walking around trying to find a bar to chill at. I couldn't believe there were a lot of people around the area. Nice size bar with a pool table, shuffle board and outside patio seating in the back. Grab a quick Crown Royal drink and played shuffle board. I heard they have Karaoke here so I definitely need to return.

Yelp
This bar is incredible! The measures that they are taking during covid to keep the bar clean is so impressive! They are constantly wiping everything down and keeping everything clean. The service was impeccable! Zack and Noah were amazing!!! They were so great in regards to their service and making sure that we were taking care of always! I appreciated how hard they both work to make sure they were meeting covid expectations while providing friendly and prompt service!!!! I am beyond impressed with the service received!! I love this bar as a great place to catch a game with great people!!! Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
I'm fan of local bars, and an UN-fan of local bars. Love, the home feel, and love the local flavor. Hate the loud locals and hate the service that is catered to locals. Regal's not like that. Bartender was really friendly, and the locals were no more loud that..I'd be at my home establishment. The on tap selection is not great in number, but had a great variety of beer ~ enough to reach across several types of beer loves. There's a minimal selection of wine, but there were some good bottles. The pool tables rotated through pretty fast, so you know you can get a game in, and there's an out door section to..be in fresh air if that's your need as well. And again, the service was great: friendly, well balanced and not at all like you might expect.
google avatar

LaRay R.

Yelp
I showed up at approximately 3 pm on a Thursday. Never been here, noticed fairly empty so I came in and ordered a beer. Seems like everyone that rolled in over the last 3 hours was a regular. I received excellent service. Rayanna (yeah I fucked up that spelling) was awesome. She had everyone covered and even engaged conversation with me, STRANGER DANGER! I will be back here. I feel like I'm old enough to be everyone's mom, but I'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my go-to watering hole. It's in my neighborhood, it's reasonable, and it's clean. More importantly, the people are great. My experience with San Diego bars is that staff can very typically be inattentive, pretentious, rude, put-upon sort of people. This is not the case with The Regal. Brian, Jonathan, and Antonio are not only good bartenders but very friendly. And now that they've acquired their liquor license everything has seemingly fallen into place. Cheers, Regal.

Yelp
Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away? ** To the Regal Bar, Yes. Sometimes you want to go ** Always up for a quick drink at the Regal Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. ** Staff is first rate; John, Brian and Antonio always make us feel at home. They keep us coming back. Just need to find the local version of a hot Kirste Alley :). You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same ** Great place to watch the game, play some pool, darts, beer pong, or just hang out near the fire pit. A must during the football season. You wanna be where everybody knows Your name. ** Welcoming local crowd You wanna go where people know, people are all the same, You wanna go where everybody knows your name. @ the Real Bar. See you there !!!

Yelp
Nice little spot for a weekend night. I was surprised to see a place like this in La Mesa. They host karaoke, have a couple billiard tables and a nice patio located out back. You'll meet some nice locals all while enjoying your "dranks".
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
My favorite dive bar in East County. You have generous pours and a nice selection of beer and liquor. Not a wine bar though very limited choices here. Shuffle board option as well. Nothing like having a few drinks and getting competitive. The TV is tuned to sports nothing worse than going to a pub/bar/dive and having MTV or a News station on Bartenders are friendly and responsive. Nice mix of 20 to 50 somethings. Affordable.

Jerry S.

Yelp
Horrible environment, bad attitudes and warm beers is what you get when you walk in here. Locals just kept staring at me and my Asian gf before we even got to the bar area. Asked for a bud light and gave us coors lite. When I asked politely to change it, the girl bartender screamed thru the top of her lungs " it's the same thing, a lite beers are all alike". Reluctantly she switched it to coors lite bottles. Then when we asked for a menu, she said good luck with that order. All i gotta say more is locals only here, outsiders and out of towners are not welcome here.
google avatar

Jody S.

Yelp
There's a juke box that ONLY played country music unless I played $1 to play something different...then it went straight back to twangin bullshit...zero stars for the music and the nasty B in leggings dancing like a crack head with her boyfriends hand down her pants....2 stars because the beer was cold & there was shuffleboard.
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
Seriously... what can I say? This place is perfect for an area that is starting to get some younger crowds living near by. There is no way that I am ever going to brave the rowdy, immature crowds Downtown when I have The Regal Bar in my backyard. There are a lot of great features here like the dual pool tables (most the time one is outside, the other inside), 10 TV's serving sports and movies, outside patio with fireplace (smoking allowed), inexpensive food snacks and really nice bartenders. But... the best part is that I never feel uncomfortable there. EVERYONE from the staff to all the patrons are so nice. This really is one of the best social bars I've been to. People chat, laugh and have a good time. Everyone likes everyone... no one is pretentious. The bartenders even wear shirts that say "Good Times" on them... so true! Wrap all that in with Karaoke Fridays (my fav), Band Saturdays, Beer Pong Mondays, and Car Show Thursdays and you have what guarantees to be a good time no matter when you go. Honestly, whoever is behind the mad genius that is this bar... kudos to you. Your staff is great, the bathrooms are clean, and the atmosphere is electric. Drop by this bar... better yet, make plans to go with your friends. You're all guaranteed to have some "Good Times". Mike

Yelp
Cool vibe, chill atmosphere a lot of potential . Pool is able affordable and fun. Music varies but usually decent if not on pointe.

Yelp
Being relatively new to the La Mesa area, my boyfriend were welcomed wholeheartedly by the community at The Regal Bar. Celebrating his 21st birthday, everyone came around to introduce themselves and give their cheers to my boyfriend. If you're looking for a spirited, laid-back community, you'll find precisely that at The Regal Bar. Seth, the bartender of the night, was attentive, gregarious, and informative. He kept an eye on our drinks, but also never assumed we wanted another. There was also another bartender who we spoke to briefly before she left at the end of her shift- she was also lovely. Our first brief experience here was delightful, and I foresee us being back... and being back often!
google avatar

Xochitl J.

Yelp
The location is great. Places to eat other bars to hit real quick. The music gets better towards night time. The drinks are good and the bartender was cool. I can't remember her name, but she recommended the best drink (raspberry lemonade vodka?) There's free pool and shuffleboard. I definitely enjoyed my time here.
google avatar

Blake J.

Yelp
We came for karaoke on a Friday night, but had to leave early because of the old guy with the moustache at the end of the bar blowing a kazoo. So disrespectful to the people singing. I'll never be back.
google avatar

Pamela W.

Yelp
This place has the best staff, best drink specials, and most comfortable environment in la Mesa!!! Sunday football with Ray-Anna is the best! This girl busts her ass and provides to-go menus for food in the area which they gladly allow to compliment their fantastic cocktails and beers!
google avatar

Kayli S.

Yelp
Brought some friends here from out of town (8 all together). Husband and friend waiting while four other people were served prior to them, even though they clearly where there ahead of time. Then I walked up and one of the bartenders said if ,"he" my husband, was with me we could leave after our drink due to his attitude. Sorry he didnt tip and you all ignored our rather large group and he showed it, well good effin bye then. Would rather be at Pete's Place anyway!!!
google avatar

Jose M.

Yelp
So I get kicked out for giving a .26 cent tip yet that's the type of sevice I received. Not sure how I get passed over not once but 4 times! Wasnt being rude or anything, simply stood there like any other typical person that waits for a bartender and 4 different times, people came up to the bar and got service right away!
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
First time visiting this bar Friday afternoon around 5:30pm. Stopped in because board outside advertised $2 bud lights on happy hour special till 7pm. We had a few beers. 6:30 my friend ordered 4 bud lights and bill came out to $20. $5 bucks a piece for 12 oz cup. When he told bartender the sign outside said $2 till 7pm, they said there is no sign outside. Sure enough it had been removed. When we pointed up to the big screen TV that was still showing daily food and drink specials, that clearly said $2 bud light till 7pm, they promptly turned the tv off. They would not honor the advertised special. La Mesa Oktoberfest was going on right outside. So maybe this was an isolated experience to make some extra monay on a busy night. I gave this place 1 star for the actual $2 beers we got billed for before 6pm, which is a deal. Free popcorn and dive bar vibe earned it a second star. Fun bar, but if you go get a verbal price check on each round just to be sure you don't get a jacked tab.
google avatar

Ali Y.

Yelp
They have cheap tall boys and a pool table and Karaoke and an outdoor seating area. Basically the best version of a dive bar missing the creepy people.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
I was forced to attend an event at this place... never heard about it before... walked in thinking that I was going to just have to "get through" the event and then leave quietly. Turns out it was the best discovery I have ever made. One of the owners, Jonathan, is just an all around good guy who really enjoys having his place and his regulars. It always feels like you are coming into "your place". No fake sophistication, no hype.... just your neighborhood pub with your neighbors who you want to see. The karaoke on Friday is a great time. Walked in once or twice when the place was packed to the gills because they were featuring a local comic or performing artist. They play the games for the fans to enjoy and I am amazed at how many people come with friends dressed with their jerseys and a real desire to have a good time... Haven't seen anyone with a chip on their shoulder in the place and I am beginning to think it is because everyone is comfortable and wants to have a good time... Really nice change from some of the Sports Bars i've been to. The Bartenders are friendly and easy-going... the food... well, they do have pizza and corn dogs.... but I would like to state that this is not a place you are coming to for a sit down meal... this is a place for a sit down draft and the company of some real characters... 'nuff said. The fire pit outside is WONDERFUL. Look... if you want to sit in front of a fire and just chill, there is a lot of planning and work involved... building a fire in your house requires constant vigilence and fire extinguishers... setting up a bonfire requires camping permits, fire safety procedures... it's a lot of work... why not just come to the Regal and buy a beer, sit down and get all of the joy with none of the work? Consider this your "rent a hearth"... and all it costs is time and the price of an ice cold beer... and you wanted the beer anyways.... : ) In short... The Regal... it's open... you should go.
google avatar

Theresa P.

Yelp
This place is so new they don't have a full liquor license yet (by September, they say). But they do have plenty of beer on tap, pool tables, darts, and an outdoor patio with a fire pit. So, if you can't figure out how to have a good time here, I can't help you. Bonus points for the bartender who saved us some money. We ordered 2 Blue Moons, and she said 'They're $4 each, or I can give you a pitcher for $12." Sold.
google avatar

Claudia B.

Yelp
Almost every month or perhaps every other Friday it seems as if I make it here with my co-workers. I mean, we do work at an office across the street and what better things are there to do after work on a Friday night!? (Hahaha jk...I do have a life peeps!) This place has a space for everyone. Whether you're there for a beer (I'm always there for a nice cold Heineken), a game of pool, or a smoke at the outside patio (thank goodness for the closed doors! I'm not a smoker), or there to hang out then you're at the right place - after all, good times is what this bar is all about! Drinks are reasonable, free popcorn, free pool, good service...good times. Plus, I hear they have awesome social hours such as karaoke, trivia nights, and live music. I'm telling you...good times ;)

Yelp
Came here on a SUNDAY night with my boyfriend around 8pm because we didn't want to feel lethargic. This place is in downtown La Mesa and I have to admit, this was a pleasant surprise. It was empty because it was a Sunday night, but definitely a place I would revisit. They serve the typical beers on tap, coronas, coors, etc. Unfortunately, they are limited in the food selection, as they only have pizza. We got the sausage and pepperoni pizza. It was about $2.50 a slice, so not too bad at all. I loved the chill ambiance of the place, and it's always nice to chat with the down to earth locals. I would be willing to check it out on the weekend, maybe Saturday :)

Yelp
The Regal is great. It has a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The people are friendly and the bartenders amazing! They are very attentive, even when the bar is slammed! I recommend checking it out for a good atmosphere and some good drinks.
