The Reindeer

"You’ll find this friendly village pub tucked away down a narrow country lane. After undergoing a major revamp, it's become a bright and modern space, but still with a culinary focus on traditional pub favourites. Unfussy, classic dishes like bangers and mash - along with daily specials - are cooked with great care and using quality ingredients, resulting in appealing, flavourful food. Charming service and a prime view of the local cricket pitch help make a visit here even more enjoyable." - Michelin Inspector

We went for a Sunday roast, the food was a bit underwhelming, I had the meat trio. The meat was well cooked but very small portions and was buried under a massive Yorkshire pudding which was very dry / old, the gravy was watery and bland, the apple crumble was a apple purée with a bit of crumble on top didn't enjoy the texture - the bill came to over £200 for 3 of us! service was excellent and the staff were very friendly - beautiful setting with the cricket pitch behind, just feel the food let it down, will return to try the normal menu to see if the food improves

You know that feeling when you’re a city dweller and all you want to do is get out to the countryside and have a taste of a slower life? This is the place. We came on a Saturday afternoon. The pub looks fresh, clean and welcoming. It’s has a seated area out the back overlooking the local cricket team’s grounds that backs onto open countryside. It was sunny so we sat outside, drank beer and ate food while the hypnotic sound of the cricket match played out in the back ground. Food was great, chicken Caesar salad with roast chicken and the burger were on our list. Friendly service and sunshine meant it was a great hour or two before heading on.

Stoped off here with the dog after walking around Hoveringham. We had the 2 courses for £25 which was super tasty and great value! Also had the pork belly starter and cherry brownie, all lovely. Overall a great place to eat.. super dog friendly and great food.

Lovely Sunday roast at The Reindeer. Very friendly staff and cosy setting. Had the ultimate roast and the pork belly was excellent. Sticky toffee pudding was also very tasty. Only downside we felt the meat portions were a bit small (even on the single portion). We'll be back for pie or burger night I'm sure.

Food was good but there is clearly a wasps nest nearby and having the doors open because of the heat meant we lost a drink and a dessert to persistent wasps. Staff were apologetic, but nothing was cheap here and some simple netting would have resolved the issue and let us enjoy food in peace. Nice pub otherwise.

Great little pub, lovely atmosphere and decor, attentive staff. I was really looking forward to trying it after my friend recommended it to me a week or so ago. The food was nice but far too salty for my liking. What is it with all Michelin star chefs and the amount of salt they use… Portions are quite generous so I was pretty full after my starter which was a delicious French onion soup. When I asked for something (a tube or something) to take away my barely touched main course, the only thing the place could offer was a tinned foil which wasn’t ideal. Surely, places should be happy when food doesn’t go to waste…

A very cozy pub in an inviting village. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the menu has a lot to offer, I visited the restaurant for dinner but does offer great lunch options as well. Highly recommend the camembert starter. Would definitely go back again!

Lunch. It is located in Hoveringham village, near Southwell. They have an offer during the week where you can choose two mains for £15. You can upgrade this to include a half bottle of house wine for £19.95. Which we did, obviously. Mains ordered were Slow Roasted Pork Belly (normal price,£17) Honey Glazed Parsnip, roast potatoes, buttered greens & cider sauce. Battered Line Caught Haddock (normal price,£18) Skinny Fries, Mushy Peas, Tartar Sauce. This is extremely good value if that's all you have. We added a couple of starters Braised Pigs Cheek Croquettes £9 Beetroot Gel & Celeriac Remoulade. Whipped Chicken Liver Pate £9 Toasted Milk Bread, Fruit Chutney & Pub Pickles. The food was cooked fresh to order, delicious, and well executed. Finished our meal with a coffee £3 and a lovely liquor coffee £7. Although if you just want a snack, they do have some delicious sandwiches such as Battered Fish Finger Sandwich £10,all served with a mini kitchen soup of the day. Its a lovely modernised pub,and if you like cricket, you can watch it on their outside terrace
