Five New England Hotels With Excellent Food | Eater Boston

"A 20-key luxury hotel in Manchester Village with art-filled rooms across the main house, Carriage House, and Mary Porter House; many rooms include fireplaces and vintage-style sitting rooms, while deluxe suites feature soaking tubs and private outdoor decks overlooking the grounds. The onsite restaurant focuses on contemporary American dinner service with a Wine Spectator–recognized list, emphasizing sustainable, locally sourced ingredients. Notable plates include lobster and brie fondue with pancetta and baguette slivers, crab-stuffed trout with creamy mushroom risotto and chardonnay sauce, and a possible standout grilled filet mignon sourced from Boyden Farm, served with peppered potatoes and a black garlic sauce." - Nathan Tavares

We had a lovely stay! Room was very comfortable. Nothing too fancy but VERY spacious with a super comfy bed. The staff was top notch and greeted us by name any time we saw them after check in. Lots of nice little touches like cookies upon check in, breakfast picnic baskets sent to your room, etc. We stay in chain hotels frequently so we enjoyed the more personal experience and charm of the Reluctant Panther. We came in the summer but would love to come back in the winter as well. Great spot to stay at if you’re in the area!

Our stay at The Reluctant Panther in Manchester, VT was absolutely wonderful. We stayed in the Library Room, which was cozy, beautifully appointed, and full of character — the perfect blend of luxury and charm. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and thoughtfulness. It was the small, intimate touches that made our experience so special: a personalized welcome card, nightly cookie deliveries, and breakfast brought right to our door in the most charming picnic basket. Every detail was curated to make us feel cared for and comfortable. A very special thank you to Morgan Ams, the manager, who went above and beyond to make sure every part of our stay was perfect. Her attentiveness and kindness did not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful. We couldn’t have asked for a more inviting or relaxing escape — and we’re already looking forward to our next visit.

We had dinner there. Scallops, halibut, asparagus soup, watermelon feta salad desert. The fish was expertly prepared, cooked at exactly the correct temp, and if you know how to cook, these sea creatures have a fine margin of error. Excellent sauces and risotto. Really a fab dinner and superb drinks. Wait staff was very kind and human in the good way. Thanks!!!!!!

The Reluctant Panther is an adorable boutique inn located in the heart of Manchester, VT; we stayed for two nights and loved our suite and the place itself. The bathroom was huge (as was the bed!), the outdoor seating area was serene and peaceful, and while the restaurant was fairly pricey it was on par with other estabilishments in the local area. You are given a few options for breakfast every day and what you order arrives in a picnic basket - I thought that was a great touch. You aren't going to get an omelet with a side of toast but you are given both fruit and a pastry along with either a bagel/cream cheese, yogurt with granola or a breakfast sandwich (those were the options when we stayed there). Another lovely gesture was the homemade cookies delivered to our door and left out in the lobby! There is plenty of parking, the staff were all pleasant and helpful, and the location couldn't have been better. If we return to Manchester we'll be back!

Each room in the Inn is beautifully appointed with lovely linens and antique furniture. The gardens are lovely and the staff couldn’t be nicer or more accommodating. The restaurant serves fabulous meals, and the breakfast in the picnic basket was by far the best we’ve ever had delivered to a room. Would highly recommend this inn to anyone visiting Manchester, Vermont.

We've been to the inn prior which was nice. Now, simply put, it's in need of a great deal of TLC and updating. And it's very overpriced for the quality of the room. Also, they did not explain that the "breakfast in the dining room" would be a basket of food" on a single table in a room with a sea of tables without a single person in sight. When we complained in the morning, the front desk person's comment was that they're sorry our stay did not meet our expectations - said in a condescending manner. We won't be back.

Our suite was lovely. It turns out the main building was rebuilt (in the old style) after a fire, so everything is nice and fairly new. The furnishings are beautiful and the timer for the fireplace is a nice touch. The breakfast was good too (they will deliver a picnic basket to your room or the dining room). The staff was also very friendly.

I can’t speak to the rooms or the inn but the restaurant is fabulous. The menu is seasonal. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings. I had the locally sourced roasted chicken with wild mushrooms and spinach, herbed gnocchi, and crispy Parmesan. Oh my. It was incredible. Highly highly recommend.
