The Design Firm Behind Today’s ‘It’ Restaurants | Bon Appétit

"Centered on a breathtaking view of the Catskill Mountains, the design treats the landscape as the primary focal point by prioritizing punched openings, framed vistas, and large windows; the result feels residential, calm, and restrained—limewash walls with minimal art, understated bar lighting, and an open kitchen that allows chefs and diners alike to share in the surrounding natural beauty." - ByKate Kassin

Meh. I was really looking forward to dining here as the photos online showcased a beautifully designed space, and in person, it truly is stunning. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short of expectations. We had a 7:30 dinner reservation for 4 and were surprised upon arrival by how loud the restaurant was. The space was filled with families, screaming children, and a very casual atmosphere, very different from what we had anticipated. We requested to be seated in a quieter area, and thankfully, the staff accommodated us. The room we were moved to was much more peaceful, but nearly empty, and the service in this area was noticeably lacking. It took about 20 minutes before our server even took our drink order. Dishes arrived at uneven intervals, and there were long stretches where we didn’t see any staff at all. While the food was good, it wasn’t particularly memorable. What stood out most (in a negative way) was the complete lack of attention to clearing our table. Dirty dishes piled up, and even as new plates were brought out, no effort was made to remove the old ones. It was baffling, especially given the price point. For a dinner costing over $100 per person, we expected a higher standard of service and a more refined experience overall. The setting has great potential, but the execution (both in service and ambiance) needs significant improvement.

We had the pleasure of dining at Inness in for my birthday dinner, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience. From start to finish, everything was perfect. The food was delicious— beautifully prepared, seasonal, and full of flavor. Each dish felt thoughtfully crafted, and you could really taste the care that went into it. A special shout-out to our waitress Kasey, who made the evening even more memorable. She was so kind, professional, and personable. She took the time to walk us through the menu, answered all our questions, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Her warmth and attentiveness truly elevated the whole night. Thank you, Inness, for making our celebration so special. It’s a night we’ll always remember, and we can’t wait to come back!

Google
A very nice restaurant with a really interesting menu. I went for scallops which were outstanding.... a really clever dish. My wife had sweet potatoes which again were excellent. My main was fluke with greens which was an enjoyable dish but personally would have enjoyed something like potatoes with it. Which leads me to my only gripe with the restaurant.... some of the service really wasn't great. The food is highend and really should be celebrated with some explanation of the dish on delivery.... rather than being plonked down (in the wrong order). But the biggest annoyance was at the end the waiter standing over me waiting for me to finish my desert after collecting my wife's plate. That's just not a done thing really. But the most important thing being the food was really great and credit to the chefs as it was quite inventive, so if in the area well worth a visit.

The food is soulful and the views are amazing! All the dishes we got were great, especially the marinated mushrooms, pomodoro pasta, and the dark chocolate mousse. The servers are very nice and the place has a farm-to-table vibe. Would highly recommend.

Would give more than 5 stars. Incredible food, clean, beautifully presented. Atmosphere is minimalistic allows you to enjoy the bounty of nature. Drinks were great and warm and friendly service. Will be back and tell friends.

Google
Such a great little spot with absolutely spectacular views of the Catskills. We were staying onsite for a 60th birthday party so I got to experience breakfast lunch and even a privately hosted dinner. Everything was delicious and the cocktails and wine were a nice compliment to the meal. My only suggestion would be to have more servers… once things arrived, it was delicious… but even though the place wasn’t packed, the wait times were a bit longer than expected… even for water refills.

I was really impressed by Inness, and now I'm looking into booking a stay at their hotel after an amazing brunch experience. I stayed in the area for New Years and could not find a brunch place last minute. I called Inness and asked about availability, they had 15 minute wait. We waited in their beautiful and cozy lounge area with a fire place and amazing views on nature (imagine that in warmer seasons!). Our table was available quickly and we got seated. Staff there was really sweet and it made such a huge difference seeing that they are pet friendly and had several customers with little dogs Food at Inness was definitely worth the visit and worth for a return! Everything on the menu was carefully curated, showcasing a delightful fusion of flavors that elevate the brunch dining to a whole new level. Local flavors and produce, seasons items, it was all delish! I highly recommend the french toast Please come here, stay at their hotel and eat here!!

Google
Food was absolutely delicious and the service was great! Our server provided excellent recommendations for appetizers and our entrees and she was also extremely pleasant, warm. My one critique is that I made this reservation on resy, with explicit instructions that we were celebrating a birthday and requested great seating with a birthday candle with our dessert. The host appeared to be unaware of our request for better seating and I had to remind everyone about the candle. I’m not sure if this is a weird glitch with Resy but just an FYI for ppl who use it as a tool to relay to the staff before arriving. Otherwise, splendid experience and I will definitely be going again!!

Yelp
The best part of Inness is the awesome photography on the website. There's no mention of the master painter Georg Inness, of the Hudson River School of Painters, who this must be attributed to. A full and muddy parking lot, a fully booked Spa at $300+ for a massage with mandatory tip., and a good restaurant food-wise, with diner-style service. Not okay for $300+ dinners, $1200+ rooms and a mini bar so expensive, you'd rather drink pool water than what's in the fridge, (if it's even open). We checked out very early, and weirdly felt immediate relief on leaving the property, spending the rest of the morning at Storm King, an hour south.

Yelp
This is a review for the restaurant at Inness, which was a pleasant surprise within the small town of Accord. We stumbled upon the restaurant while looking for a lunch spot, and were amazed by the views and ambiance of the establishment! The outsoor seating looked amazing next to the rolling hills surrounding the hotel. In terms of food, everything was quite tasty. My personal favorite was the pancake with fruits and marscapone. Items were similar to quality to those found in NYC, although prices are also similar. Service was very prompt, and our water cups were constantly filled. This is definitely worth checking out if in the area.

Yelp
Omg! Everything was so delicious! I love Inness. Service friendly and professional. The place is just so gorgeous. I loveee everything we ordered! We also had a breakfast that was great. Def going back!

Yelp
Don't stay here on a weekend. There's an event going late into the night playing loud music that there's no way to escape. This is supposed to be a relaxing bucolic environment in nature, and the loud music completely disrupted the vibe. Also, some not-so-subtle racism.

Yelp
A two night stay was almost $4,000. Inness, in its current state is at best a $350 per night hotel charging $500-$1400 per night. It would seem the events such as weddings and the kids camp take precedence over the guests staying at the hotel. For example, the pool is unavailable until after 11am. The grounds are wildly overgrown and not maintained. The paths are difficult to use safely especially in the dark and/or bad weather. Other than walking through the overgrown grass, pool or golf there isn't much else to do there. The farmhouse rooms are basic. The room didn't get made up as the maid didn't speak english. She didn't understand being asked to come back in 5 minutes. The walls are very thin. You do hear everything. If someone is awake, the whole farmhouse will be. The locks on the doors only open and close with a push rather than a turn which makes a loud noise. So it's impossible to be quiet later at night. Breakfast is not included. However, some pretty nasty coffee is sometimes available in the kitchen area. $12 for a packet for chips. There's nothing else food wise at the farmhouse. The restaurant's food and service was great and reasonably priced. The SPA is very hard to get a reservation and tips are mandatory. The staff were very nice. There is a lot of potential at Inness and I did have a nice stay but it's embarrassingly overpriced and in desperate need of improvements. I can only assume they have run out of money after building all the cabins and have nothing left to maintain or run the hotel propelry. I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of experiencing the restaurant at Inness for the first time this past weekend. As a local area resident, I've been hard pressed to find restaurants that offer a solid combination of service, atmosphere and food/wine. I was pleasantly surprised by Inness. To start, the location itself is incredible, perched up on a hill with sweeping Catskill views, can't beat it! Lovely, rustic-contemporary ambiance, simple and elegant. Service was thoughtful, informative and attentive. I found the menu had a nice variety and very inventive, although I would have loved to see more vegetarian options and perhaps some callouts on the menu making it more intuitive for those with food sensitivities to navigate (adding a GF pasta in the future is suggested). The wine by the glass menu was somewhat limited, but well rounded options and I was happy to see a natural wine on there. The food itself was well prepared and nicely presented (could use a bit more attention to this area) and quite flavorful. My salad (snap pea) was slightly on the salty side but that didn't stop me from finishing it all! Sea bass was good. A few more dessert options would have been nice. Overall, a lovely evening! My one comment was that I did come home smelling like I had been sitting around a campfire for several hours ;-). Not sure what was going on with the restaurant ventilation that night, and we did sit closer to the kitchen, but as the evening progressed and the restaurant became busier, I'm guessing the wood fire oven was in heavy use and the fumes/smell became fairly irritating. An easy fix for sure.

Yelp
We had an outstanding dinner here. We got the bread & butter, stracciatella with figs and tomatoes, trout rilletes, mafaldini with chicken sugo, rigatoni with tomato and basil, carrots with ricotta, and two desserts (chocolate budino and blondie with vanilla ice cream). All three starters were outstanding, especially that stracciatella dish, which had great tomatoes and really amazing fresh figs. Both pastas were great too -- my wife preferred the mafaldini, but I really loved the rigatoni. On the desserts, I thought the budino was good, but the blondie was incredible, and the ice cream complemented it perfectly. We also stayed at the hotel, which was really amazing.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by the food. Reminded me of food I ate in Italy - tasty because simply made but with quality ingredients. Really liked the tuna tartare. I am a sucker for capers so this was great. Also beautifully presented. The pasta con la bottarga (with fish roe) was very delicious, perfect texture with a little bit of citrusy flavor to balance the fish roe. The pizza diavola also tasted great - salami was v pork-y. Would have been better if it wasn't burnt. Marinara pizza was also good though I would stick with the wheat dough next time instead of the cauliflower crust which was almost like a flat bread. For lunch, the quiche and the prosciutto cotto tartine were both good. Menu is small so I might not want to eat there multiple days in a row. Dog friendly = a huge plus!

Yelp
We love Inness' restaurant. We have been there a few times, but today, it was packed, and the service was terrible. We made a reservation and were seated at a table that had food crumbs on the floor. I kept my purse on my lap because the floor was too dirty. We waited for 15 minutes until a waitress came, and the poor girl was so rushed that as soon as we said tap water and ordered a couple of cocktails, she ran away from our table, leaving my husband with the words hanging. He had to stop her to order sourdough bread. The bread came without the preserves. She left running again. Then, she returned and asked, "Do you know what you want?" My husband said yes, and we ordered the food, including the preserves. She ran away again, threw the preserves on the table, and left. His food came first. My simple salad came later. My salad was crunched on a small plate. So small that I wasn't able to cut the lettuce. We were laughing. We ate, paid, and left. Please, please, hire more people for the weekend. Do not sacrifice the quality of the service for a few bucks. We love love INNESS for its relaxing atmosphere and quality.

Yelp
I've been waiting to leave this review as I reflected on how poor this experience was based on the nightly rate we paid for a cabin this summer. This was our summer vacation and such a heart break it was to stay here. Service overall was lackluster if it existed. We asked more than 5xs for what activities we could do on the property and the area. Nevertheless we were consistently met with a perplexed and "I don't know" feedback from the woman at the front desk. There was little to no proactive-ness in welcoming us, helping us to our room, or suggesting we get a reservation at the busy restaurant. For the almost $1k a night rate we would of expected a bit more. On day 2 we asked again to once again no response and wandered on the grounds to find a fantastic obstacle course. Not sure why no one would bother mentioning this. The rooms are literally falling apart at the very least ours was. The window blackout shade holder would literally fall off the wall in the middle of the night consistently. The door handle was broken and did not lock. In fact the handle barely opened the door. The kind girl helping us with our luggage struggled with it and told us to jig it around, pull the door forward, and not turn it too hard. Our perplexed faces followed mostly because again this is not a cheap room by any means. Breakfast was minimal if it existed. The waitress literally forgot about us once she took our order and was never to be seen again. We waited a 30m until we got up and left. Overall truly a disappointment. This property has a lot of potential and seems like management has left it to decay and decline.

Yelp
This resort, 9 hole golf course and spa is not fully completed as of this writing. There are organic gardens, hotel rooms, simply decorated with a spa and an outdoor bistro with smokers and grills. I was privy to the eating experience here. So I will not comment on the golf course, rooms or spa. As mentioned they are taking reservations at reduced prices. As per my dining here: we arrived for lunch, al fresco dining. To order one must go online. Food is then paid for and someone from the smoker and grilling area will serve it to you. A very nice presentation. I had skewered chicken with bulgar salad on pita bread. Amazing views with an amazing sunset overlooking 200+ acres bordering on the Catskills in the Hudson Valley.

Barbara K.

Yelp
Please Please Please have the waitstaff write down the orders. We are not impressed with their memory. We are more impressed with getting all the orders right, especially with a large party. Other than that, we were very happy with our dining experience.

Yelp
We are so grateful to have somewhere like Inness to eat near our house. Their food and service has greatly improved since they've opened. We've been 4-5 times and our most recent meal here on a Sunday evening was the best yet. Their pasta game has been majorly stepped up. Their appetizers have always been good. Cocktails are great. Ambiance is excellent. The fire going outside and the views are impeccable. Overall a great spot to take out of town guests and family and friends or just go for brunch on a weekend.

Yelp
(Golf course review only) Is it a long drive from Fairfield County CT? Absolutely. Was it worth it? Definitely. Played last summer before the course officially opened and really enjoyed the experience, even without any "amenities" available. While it's not as flat as Sweetens Cove (in TN, same designer), Innis is similar in that it has a good walking layout and all the holes are quite different. Some feature extreme swells in the greens which is fun, and there's not much "target golf" style play required. And for those who think 9 holes aren't enough, our group played twice and I mostly recall that we found different approaches to almost every hole than the first time through. Cool surrounding environment as well. Can't say what the hotel, food or beverage options (weren't available yet) but I'm sure they will be solid. Photos attached - enjoy!

Yelp
Walking up to this lovely hotel/restaurant was like arriving at a modern vineyard in California, minus the grapes. It was simple, elegant, had some fire pits out in the front to enjoy the fantastic views by, and a cute gift shop. The food was really tasty, and wasn't too heavy. That being said, if you want a more filling meal, you may need to order more than you'd expect. I had a great birthday experience in a private room with my friends and dog, and it is a memory I will never forget :)

Ruth L.

Yelp
Had a salad which was good but chicken on top was tasteless and tough. Server was rude when we reported that.. He just repeated the critique which was given politely and then came back to tell us the chicken's credentials. Poor example of service . He could have apologized and replaced the chicken. We were also still charged extra for the chicken.

Yelp
Inness is incredibly overpriced for what you get. The food is mediocre at best. The owners don't care about the local community and do whatever they want without considering the homeowners around the business. Avoid this place and support local businesses and Airbnbs, not this place started by hipsters from the city.

Samir G.

Yelp
We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here and all the food was amazing! The staff are extremely attentive and they keep the place really clean. The best part is the beautiful view

Yelp
Will extend this review later. Generally: 1. Mud everywhere 2. Less thoughtful than expected for the minimalist rooms. It's as though the designers thought about the finishes and vibe, but not actual function. 3. Spacious, but not very thoroughly programmed. The cabins feel isolated. 4. The restaurant is good but vastly overpriced per dish. Particularly at breakfast / brunch. 5. The shop is lovely. 6. Piaule has a far superior restaurant and staff.

Maegan C.

Yelp
Do you love spending fourseason prices with motel 6 amenities? Do you love starving in the middle of nowhere? If you want a stressful weekend starving and with no amenities but pay over $1,000 a night? LOOK NO FURTHER, this is the luxury experience from hell you have been looking for! Took us to the wrong cabin which was under construction Left our things in the pouring rain Restaurant out of power for 3 hours for dinner Holes in bed sheets Did not have a working key for 24 hours (even after asking multiple times) Restaurant closed in the morning for 5 hours due to no water They would take our bikes constantly even tho we requested on the reservation T time 11 when we got there no one was at the club house till 1120 No towels at the pool and no staff to ask No chairs at the pool because the look at vibe is more important then the guests comfort Staff tells you how they "will be better when they are off work" All activities booked up before you arrive but you are not allowed to book till you are checked in Well expressing the issues above with management we were just told to leave early if we want vs the staff wanting to make any of our experience pleasant or rectifying the issues... I was told when I said "I was shocked with the lack of customer service to the above when I informed the staff of the issues and this is not what I expected spending $2,500 for 2 nights" "ya sounds awful it's ok you are welcome to leave you knew the price when you booked the hotel" vs ANY apology or trying to make our experience better. When you ask for anything to be fixed in your room you will have to call the front desk 4-8 times and wait 2 hours before they come. We left after less then 24 hours... the only thing good about the experience was a lovely view of grass for miles and pretty minimalist furniture If you are a self loathing masochist who wants to starve for the weekend, this is your perfect spot! I hope you enjoy.

Yelp
Amazing food! Lots of seating inside and outside. We visited on a warm day and it was awesome to sit outside. It was pretty busy so I'd recommend making a reservation. We just went for dinner but you can also stay overnight on property. All of the foods we tried were amazing

Geo C.

Yelp
Excellent food. Quiet romantic getaway. Unassuming service. Bring your bike and get some beautiful rides in.

Yelp
Overpriced Highly chlorinated drinking water Long service wait Underwhelming menu Green juice poured from a bottle Excessive use of air conditioning

Yelp
Staff was very friendly and no mention of Covid. The other patrons were pretty scared of Covid, ands but rude to us because of our Covid response, which brought down our experience. Beautiful land with great views from the dining room.

Larry D.

Yelp
Wonderful destination. Great sunsets. Friendly and welcoming staff. Don't forget to get nine holes of golf in during your stay or visit.

Yelp
Great food, limited menu. Lovely setting and views of the mountains. Sit outside if weather permits. Josef is a great waiter too.

Yelp
wow, this place totally and completely missed the mark. i had high hopes but am so disappointed. for the price, the cabins are absolutely lackluster, the service at dinner was awful (we were seated 45 minutes late and they were out of all of the specials), and everything just felt like an afterthought. i would not recommend and will not be coming back until there is hopefully new management and better systems. the hotel just seems very poorly run by people with no hospitality experience.

Lilliana V.

Yelp
Wanted to escape the city but many better places to stay in the area on Airbnb. The people were not very nice. The food was very mediocre, nothing very special and very expensive. No interesting wines either, very mediocre. The wine person knew very little about wine in general. For the price we expected more knowledgeable staff and food. Really needs to improve.

rob l.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful restaurant and views. Simple, lovely lunch. Not cheap but the whole experience is worth it.

Carrie L.

Yelp
My son has a house in Bovina NY 5 miles from this hotel. He had a power outage and needed a place to stay on Friday night. They told him you must book two nights and turned him away!!! It was 3:00 in the afternoon and the room was available and he was going to pay full price for himself and his wife, and eat dinner there as well! Imagine doing business like that to someone from your own community!! These are not good people!!!

Beth F.

Yelp
We sat by the window which has a lovely view of the mountain. Our server was wonderful. Very attentive and did her very best to make our dining experience exceptional. Unfortunately, there wasn't a whole lot other than her and the fried cauliflower she recommended that met our expectations. Considering the prices we were hoping for a meal that was worth it. We used to come in to Ivan's when it was there and the food was far better. Maybe if they make some changes to the menu we will give it another try
