"This is the only place to grab food on the long stretch between Big Sur Village and San Simeon, and considering most of the Patagonia-clad, hiking-pole-toting tourists don’t make it this far, it’s a good spot to escape the crowds. Take some time to wander around the hotel grounds, covered in Monterey cypress trees and landscaped flowers. The restaurant itself isn’t anything special, so we suggest just admiring the view before you move to the inn’s sandwich shop and espresso bar. Grab a cappuccino and a danish for breakfast, or a pastrami on rye for lunch, and rescue yourself from your sad stash of gas station chips and gummy worms." - team infatuation, allison green

What a great hidden gem. Nestled in a forest like environment, it's quaint and homey. The restaurant and coffee bar are excellent. Great staff and service. Good food and coffee. Gas station on site. Lots of parking. Great views. Walk around and see the sites including the beautiful ocean.

Beautiful dining area, great service and food! I ordered the street tacos and they didnt dissapoint, for $15 they have a lot of meat, good cheese and were very filling. Took a second order to go and had those while camping. I recommend the OJ since its super fresh and not diluted at all, if you dont mind some pulp. The scenery is peaceful and really breezy, the ocean views are a few yards away.

if you want a romantic weekend with your special person, I highly recommend Ragged Inn! Hotel was clean, great customer service and food too. In the middle of forest and sea. Stunning views!

One of the best stops along highway 1. Good food, great views. Enjoy a coffee and shop or have a fun filled meal with family. Great ambience, choose from indoor or outdoor setting. Awesome food, great service. The Mediterranean platter was awesome and clam chowder was authentic. Salmon was fresh and cooked to perfection. Only complain the fries could have been better

Although we stayed at Treebones, this restaurant was a surprise highlight of our trip! We were looking for restaurants in the area (there are few) and came across this one. The inside of the restaurant is very unassuming with a somewhat sterile feel, but the outside patio is perfect. I’d recommend sitting out there for sunset. Loved all the salads and the fish was delicious! Crab cakes were pretty tasty too. After dinner, we walked down toward the beach. Views are incredible. What a gem!

Google
The Restaurant at Ragged Point is just what it should be...an attractive airy building that's all windows looking out across the hotel's beautiful campus. There's interior feels strangely empty, but i appreciated the discrete distance around each table. There's also patio seating with an attractive propane fire pit. Breakfast, kunch, and dinner are served. The menu is somewhat limited, and the prices are inspired more by location than food quality (I liked the branzino at dinner). The staff doubles at the coffee shop shoehorned into the same building, and they are friendly and accommodating. Overall this is a very enjoyable experience.

I'm surprised by the low reviews of this restaurant .... this place is fantastic! We came here for dinner after an 8 mile long hike in the Big Sur wilderness and were blessed with a fresh, hearty meal. Let's start with the atmosphere! The entire restaurant is covered in glass, so the breathtaking views of ragged point - the foamy ocean waves, the precipitous sea cliffs, the golden bluffs of the Silver Peak Wilderness - hit you from all directions. The service was very good. Our waiter took our order right away and our food was brought out soon after. Saving the best for last ... the food was FIRE! I got the chicken achiote. The chicken was perfectly tender and the risotto was delightfully creamy. My mom got the fish & chips and thought they were delectable. The halibut was extremely juicy and the fries were warm, crispy and not at all greasy! What really impressed us was how fresh our food was. After a long, exhausting hike, our meal at Ragged Point Restaurant was a welcoming and nourishing end to our day. We 100% recommend this restaurant for any occasion!

Google
Very cosy restaurant! Stopped by here for lunch, and ordered their burger, which was recommended by the staff. Added American Cheese because a good burger must have cheese in it. The burger was very tasty, and easily one of the best burgers I've eaten in US. It goes really well with beige/pink sauce (not sure what it was). Would recommend!

Yelp
Ragged Point Restaurant is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a meal. The scenic setting, attentive staff and delicious food draw me back whenever I am in the area. My latest dinner was well prepared and presented. Our waiter, Fernando, was pleasant, helpful and attentive. The wine list has a nice selection of regional vinyards.

Yelp
We've had lunch earlier in the year and everything was fine. The food and service were both good. Today, we went there for breakfast. I had the Eggs Benedict and my wife had a veggie omelette. We both enjoyed our meals. Her hot chocolate and my cafe latte were delicious. With a nice view and a great location, what's not to like about a pleasant meal overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Yelp
Outrageously priced mediocre at best food with non caring service. 1st We had ordered a glass of wine and it was old and sour tasting. We sent that back after being told they just opened the bottle. Instead of taking a chance we changed to a different wine entirely. The bread they served actually smelled like mustard.... Mustard? Good thing I like mustard....but why? We ordered the mussels and some tarts. The tarts were ok and at first the mussels seemed fine...until we opened a mussel and suddenly the smell of manure overcame the table. For a moment there we were trying to figure out where the stentch was coming from till we realized it was the mussel. Seriously this thing smelled HORRIBLE!!!! And still we pushed on to the main course. Each of us (4) ordered something different so we could taste everything. The "catch of the day" snapper was ok, the chicken was alright, the short rib was fine, but not the quality you'd expect for the price you're paying. The rice dished had a microwaved look and feel. To me the best thing was the potatoes. Overall cleanliness was not desirable. The bathroom toilet was overflowing with trash all over the place. You would think for the money they charge for their subpart food they would have more than a hook lock on their bathroom door. If you are driving the coast, keep driving. Get down to San Simeon or Morro Bay to spend your money. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY, TRULY!!! Keep in mind that even though things were going bad we kept giving them a chance, and they kept proving they don't deserve it.

Yelp
The wife and I shared the berry salad and the fish and chips. She had a cup of the chowder, which was delicious. We did find a hair in the salad, and I found that the batter was not so well cooked on a couple of the pieces of fish; however, the fish tasted very good and fresh. Service was OK, not overly attentive, but reasonably friendly. Ambience is amazing, their glass covered patio as well as outdoor seating in such a gorgeous location is what makes this place special. This would be a three star review at best without the location. Pricing was reasonable for the level of Restaurant.

Yelp
Another 5 star visit to our favorite restaurant at the end of Highway 1 north of San Simeon. This time we had a fabulous dinner and breakfast after spending the night at the inn. Their shishito peppers were the best I have eaten, with oil, fresh ginger and cabbage for added flavor. My fish and chips were excellent. For breakfast I thoroughly enjoyed their cinnamon french toast out on their view patio. My husband and I have eaten here several times, and thr roughly enjoyed each meal plus their specialty cocktails and great wine choices.

Yelp
I really love this place , south Big Sur is a place I cherish, been here for 2 to 3 decades now owned and operated about six restaurants locally , had a wonderful dinner experience tonight, fresh fish , soba noodles , salads & sides , everything so fresh and delicious, had a great conversation with the chef Rebecca recommending dishes can't wait to return !

Monica C.

Yelp
I got the clam chowder, birria sandwich and curly fries. Soup and sandwich were fantastic. Let me say that I am a picky eater. lol. The birria was perfect with little bits of fat. Consume was super flavorful. I could taste the clove and cinnamon. Curly fries were just ok. My waitress was very nice and friendly. I had a perfect view next to the Lily pads and I could see the ocean in the distance. I had a long slow lunch and just enjoyed. It was perfect.

Yelp
This is by far my most obscure review but if you've never been to Queenstown in New Zealand, can just skip and know that the ragged burger with home made bun is great and the meat / veggies used is fresh and worth ...albeit needs a bit of salt on the patty 10/10 best food on the road trip from LA to SF Now to those whose have been to fergburger in Queenstown , New Zealand This is the closest burger I've found that tastes like the ones from there Of course it's not 1:1 but goddamn does it remind you of it ( home made buns, burger meat appears to be from a local source and veggies where fresh)

Yelp
The view is stunning and the service is great. We had a breakfast lunch and dinner while staying at this beautiful spot and all of the food was so fantastic. The winner for breakfast was the Huevos Rancheros for sure. Lunch loved the clam chowder and the crab cakes. Favorite drink was the Vodka blueberry mojito. Dinner, the steak soared, really incredible. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Excellent food. I had the Filet Mignon sandwich and onion rings. Filet was melt in your mouth good. Condiments on sandwich perfect compliments. Onion rings hot and crispy . My sister was very happy with her salmon salad which had lots of berries and pomegranate arils. My husband had a delicious burger. The fresh lemonade was wonderful. The grounds and views are magnificent. Take a walk around, it is stunning. We brought our large dog and there was plenty of room between tables for him to relax. The outside deck has shady and sunny tables.

Yelp
This is one of the very few restaurants in the area. The food was really good. We tried the crabcakes and the ribeye skewers for appetizers. My wife got the mushroom bisque soup and I went with the halibut and chips. Most of the food is around $20 or so. If you want to have a nice enjoyable meal, this is one of the handful places in the area if you're camping up north. Either you had further south or going north, there really isn't anything else except for self prepared food more or less. The alcohol prices are more in line with metropolitan areas so realize you're going to be paying for it. Otherwise, if you want a nicer evening, this is a place to go if you are in the area. everything is what you would expect, but nothing is really special or stand out. Solid restaurant, but nothing you would go out of your way to visit.

Yelp
We came here in a group with 54 Corvettes and had a delicious lunch and Bloody Mary. There were close to 100 of us and we all ordered and got our food very efficiently! I had the veggie sandwich and it was delicious, minus the under ripe tomatoes. My husband got what was probably the largest hamburger I have ever seen. The Bloody Mary's were so good and loaded with toppings.

Yelp
I had not been here for several years but was excited to celebrate Mother's Day as in the past our family had shared many a celebratory meal together. We made reservations for the 5 of us, and we arrived a little late but had phoned ahead to let the host know. We arrived and were seated right away- check. We were left with our menus and were not asked for our drink order until sometime later, probably about 10 minutes. We wanted to order our food as we had two very hungry children with us. We were told by the staff they were only able to bring our drinks and the server would be along. We had seen a gentleman running around quite a lot, and at one point I had flagged him down for the kids menu. I went to the parking lot to retrieve something from my car and passed by the host and asked if she could find someone to take our order. A panicked look, so I told her we had very hungry children so we needed to order please. I returned from the parking lot and our drinks were brought, but still no one to take the order. Roberto arrived a few minutes later, and turned out to be the gentleman we had seen running around serving food earlier. He took our orders quickly and efficiently and then we waited for our food. While the frown on our grand daughter's face began to grow, and with arms crossed heading to a melt down, the food arrived. Yayyyy Roberto! I and my daughter in law ordered the halibut tacos (see photo) messy, but very flavorful and topped with a yummy crunchy cabbage slaw and mango with avocado crema. Absolutely delicious! My son ordered the steak sandwich which he said was very good. We ordered the chicken strips and fries for the kids (pretty typical frozen and breaded. The food overall was as good as I remembered in times past. The location is just spectacular and worth the drive. The lower stars are mostly because one server cannot be responsible for so many tables, although the restaurant was not overly busy when we arrived. There were several large parties like ours. From the time we arrived until our food arrived was almost an hour which is not a big deal unless you have children who are needing food. ASAP. Next trip we will bring snacks in the car for the drive. Kids will be happier, and more inclined to wait and so will the parents, and the grandmother.

Kathy M.

Yelp
Food is ok and the view is great. I always feel cold here so bring a sweater even if it's hot elsewhere. Average food but not much else around so we end up eating here when we drive this stretch of the highway.

Leah B.

Yelp
This was a really great find on the way to Big Sur! We stopped in around breakfast time. The food was delicious, the service was above par, and nothing can beat the atmosphere! We sat outside to enjoy the beautiful scenery and fire pit. After breakfast, we explored and took a hike down to the water.

Yelp
Ragged Point Restaurant, Ragged Point, CA - November 29, 2023 We arrived at about 2 pm on a calm sunny Wednesday afternoon. It wasn't too crowded and we were able to get a table on the outdoor patio that has umbrellas for shade. They also have indoor seating with a beautiful view of the hotel grounds and ocean in the distance. Our servers weren't the friendliest, but they got us seated with water and menus, and were pretty quick to get our drink orders. We ordered a bottle of the 2022 Hearst Ridge Winery Glacier Ridge Chardonnay. I was pretty surprised it was only $28 a bottle. It was very tasty! The wine was brought out quickly and we submitted our food orders - the salmon salad, and the roasted pepper salad. Shortly after, our server notified us that the pepper salad wasn't available, so I went ahead and ordered a vegetarian sandwich on grilled sourdough bread. Both meals were delicious. The salmon salad had blue berry, pomegranate, raisins, pickled red onion, avocado, roasted beets, spinach, kale, cabbage, brussel sprouts, pumpkin seeds, and a beautifully cooked grilled salmon with a spicy lemon cayenne dressing. Incredibly delicious as you might imagine. The veggie sandwich was on a grilled buttered sourdough bread, with melted provolone cheese, a grilled red pepper slice, thin tomato, pickled red onion, grilled mushrooms, grilled peppered zucchini, grilled spinach, grilled eggplant with a spiced white pepper olive oil. Very good! It normally comes with whole wheat bread, but I special ordered the sourdough. It also came with a pickle, a slice of pineapple, and a slice of honeydew. You really get a lot for what you pay for here at the Ragged Point Restaurant - two delicious meals with a bottle of wine overlooking the ocean, all for about $100 with tip. After our late lunch, we walked down onto the hotel grounds and looked out over the ocean. There is a trail that leads down to the ocean from the hotel grounds. It looks like it's at least 800 feet down. A little more than what we wanted to do on this particular afternoon.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night while camping in Big Sur. We got to the restaurant at 5 pm and there was a short line of other people wanting to dine. Part of its popularity seems to be because there's an inn on the same grounds as the restaurant, and because it's also the only decent restaurant for miles. The ambiance here is very charming. There are a good deal of seats outdoors and it's lovely to sit outside and eat just as the sun is setting, which was also the case when we dined here. We had some issues with the service. We waited a bit of time to be seated. The restaurant seems understaffed and the existing service staff on the night seemed harried. It also took a while for the staff to take our food orders. My husband and I shared the Caesar salad for an appetizer. For mains, my husband had the fettuccine while I had the osso buco. If I had to consider the fact that we were in a pretty remote area, I'd rate the food as pretty good. Otherwise, the food was good but could have been more memorable. I'd recommend it if you're visiting the southern part of Big Sur.

Robert H.

Yelp
Got a coffee, a ham Swiss croissant, and a slice of pie. All delicious, but found a small piece of ceramic something in custard of the lime pie piece. Nice place, nice food, but that's negligent.

Brownie X.

Yelp

H V.

Yelp
We've stopped by Ragged Point many times on our way to Big Sur but have never eaten at the restaurant. Our waitress Gabby was super friendly and attentive. She checked in on us often and even chatted with us about our dog. The food was amazing! We ordered the classic eggs Benedict and the shrimp omelet. I encourage you eat outside because the grounds and the ocean view are amazing! Definitely coming back!!!

Alli G.

Yelp
Stopped to get a coffee and take in the views. The coffee was absolutely delicious! I got The White Elephant and my bf got the Honey Brew Cold Brew. So so good!

Courtney A.

Yelp
Breathtaking views! Walk around the property and explore. We shared the steak skewers which were good. After lunch we got coffee and a dessert (California Key Lime Pie) which was great. I would like to come back here and stay. There was a wedding happening on property so we couldnt explore as much as I would have liked. They have a cute general store too!

Jose A.

Yelp
Great spot off the Pacific Coast Hwy near Big Sur. Beautiful views of the ocean paired with good food and cocktails. Our waitress was lovely and the service was excellent. If you're driving up or down that incredible road, do yourself a favor and stop here for a drink a nosh or a meal.

Becky H.

Yelp
Excellent burgers, huge, tasteful and delicious. Wait was minimal and staff was great

Karl W.

Yelp
Great atmosphere overall at Ragged Point (rooms, gift shop, market, gas station, etc). The restaurant itself was great for dinner. Live music, perfect weather on the patio and great food. My wife and I got the salmon salad and achiote chicken and both were perfect. Server was very nice. I was very shocked to see some low reviews. This place is a perfect place to stop off of Big Sur for lunch or dinner or to stay. There's a steep hike down to the water and a great old school vibe to the place.

Roger L.

Yelp
Great food and Ambiance. Prime rib sandwich melts in your mouth. Service attentive. Dine in or inside atrium. Great views. Would definitely recommend.

Khalid A.

Yelp
Extremely bad service. The hostess failed to talk, even acknowledge the long line of guests waiting to be seated. We had to escalate the issue for her to even take our names down on the waiting list. Once we were seated, the server failed to show up to take the order for another 25 minutes, and that's after sending two reminders. Half of the items on the menu were "unfortunately" not available. On the bright side the food was quite good. We ordered crab cakes, halibut tacos and veggies sandwich. The location is awesome, especially if you sit outside.

Alice J.

Yelp
Came here a few times during our month-long stay on the Californian coast. Like other restaurants on the coast (such as Big Sur River Inn), the Ragged Point is over priced in terms of the quality of food, and service is hit or miss. We came for both lunch and dinner on different days of the week on separate occasions as we drove north and south along CA-1. Compared to Big Sur I would say Ragged Point serves better presenting dishes (attractive, enticing) and more tasty food for what you pay. For example, do try their cactus salad. It comes in a crunchy bowl that you can eat! The sea scallops (an appetizer) are very good (tender)! See all my photos; several very nice looking dishes that are also delicious. I would give the fish and chip a pass. Beautiful setting (after the meal do walk toward the cliff for a view on the Pacific). Clean and spacious toilets. Sometimes, long long wait to place an order and/or to receive our dishes. Sometimes, service was prompt and it wasn't too long a wait for food. Nothing to do with how busy or not busy the restaurant was. They do seem to be very under staffed, though. Long wait at the front to even be seated. And some customers cut in the line, but the waiter or host didn't care. The star rating is an average of all our (mixed) experiences: 2-3 stars one time (lousy service) but 5 stars another time ...

Jazmine R.

Yelp
The service here is fast friendly and efficient. I had the chicken and waffles and it did not disappoint. The chicken was crispy (not greasy) on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. The tenders are all white meat. The waffle was okay but overall a great meal!

Samantha C.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE. !!! I got the fish and chips and found a worm in my fish. When I told the server she was rude ! She seemed unfazed ! She claimed she was the manager and had the audacity to ask me if I'd like her to take it off my tab. Like really?? No apology or nothing! I was so disgusted and in disbelief I forgot to take a picture. Would not Recommend this restaurant to anyone. 0 stars.

Brian K.

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch. Nice location along the coast with outdoor seating and plenty of outdoor heating options if it's cold. We sat next to the (gas) fire pit table which kept us plenty warm. Had the Chilaquiles with carne asada in a green sauce. Fairly standard dish. Nothing out of the ordinary. I wouldn't go out of my way for the food, but the location is very nice.

Victoria W.

Yelp
I ordered the burger for lunch, and was perfectly content with my meal overall. The burger had a decent sized thick beefy patty, and came with an assortment of condiments, and everything tasted fresh. The curly fries that came with my burger were also super delicious. I think part of the reason the reviews are a little lower is because the food is on the expensive size (although what can you really expect since it's in the middle of nowhere perched on a cliff by itself!). I would recommend coming here for lunch rather than dinner because the prices go up pretty dramatically between lunch and dinner. Overall, don't discount this place because of the reviews. It's definitely worth stopping by for lunch, especially because of the amazing views of Big Sur! Pro tip if you come for lunch on the weekends during the summer and early fall months, they have live music on the lawn right outside the restaurant patio from 12-4 pm!

Jerry D.

Yelp
We've been going to ragged point for over 20 years with ok service, we went there this time to have a glass of wine outside.. the waiter said that we couldn't have just wine! I told him that that was never a problem. And took our order. 5 minutes later he came back and said they were out of the wine we ordered. So we picked another one... he said they were out of that one too.. he thought he was funny there wasn't any glass of wine he would pour us.. We left! Didn't need a very poor waiter being a $@$&! We won't waist our time making the 29 mile drive there anymore!

Sarah L.

Yelp
The salmon salad was perfection! Everyone is so polite and welcoming. The views and gardens are amazing.

Melanie R.

Yelp
We had a great dinner. We have eaten lunch up here before but never dinner. I had the Achiote Chicken and it was delicious and he had the Caesar Salad with Salmon with was also tasty. The service was excellent and Fernando was our waiter. He for being the only Server was on his game and very attentive. We love Ragged point and all it has to offer. Definitely try the bakery and the coffee. Yum Yum!!!!!

Collector B.

Yelp
Superb experience! Although the service was quite slow (beer was fast), the ambiance and food were both 5 stars. The Fish-n-Chips had just three pieces of Cod, but the fish was fried to perfection and flakey-fresh. The Fish Tacos too were worth coming back to this place for. All said and done, great location, above average food, very courteous staff, although slow.

Ann C.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The food tasted great but it was a small portion and a bit pricey. My fish was my favorite item on the menu. Big Sur Fog cake was great.

Sofia B.

Yelp
This hotel is like your own little piece of paradise. Tucked within the hills of Big Sur, Ragged Point provides a romantic getaway! The staff is beyond accommodating and friendly, especially Chris at the front desk!

Matt V.

Yelp
I was in a couple months ago and this place was a nice surprise. Food was delicious and the bakery pie and brownies were amazing. Bread was warm and delicious and steak was cooked perfectly. We went here twice once for a nice dinner and once for lunch the nachos were pretty mid. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy, but what I gathered is that most of the restaurants in the area have been struggling with the northern 101 being closed and cutting of traffic through the area. The outside area was nice, but outside and inside could get a little hot when the sun is out.

Rey B.

Yelp
Great setting and location. Food was great--we had the local berry salad and Vegetable sandwich-both very tasty. Server was friendly.

Nicholas P.

Yelp
The crunchy French toast was absolutely delicious. I've never tasted a French toast like this before. The crab cake benedict was also pretty stellar, but the crab flavor wasn't as potent as I would've liked. The sausage was PHENOMENAL with the ragged point breakfast. I also had a pistachio rose latte that was so unique and tasty.

Michael B.

Yelp
Excellent view and service. Definitely one of the best view I've ever had in a restaurant. However, I think they need to improve their food since they're on the higher price range I ordered a steak and it's not cooked evenly.

Sarah T.

Yelp
We always stop here at the southern end of Big Sur. The food is always delicious, no matter what we order. Today I had the Beef Filet sandwich, which was wonderful! My husband had the Halibut Tacos, which were superb!

Dean C.

Yelp
8/8/20 Everything's relative, and though I'm giving 4 stars to this place, it ain't without problems, nor was the food that great. BUT, this is Big Sur, and if you've been around here you know eating is a major chore. And honestly, around here, you'll not get much food better than what we had for dinner here..... Dinner. Yeah, so we came back for breakfast the next morning as we were staying at the hotel on location, and it was a bunch of hit and miss. I would give their breakfast a 1.5-2 stars, even relatively for this area. So don't come here for breakfast k? Well, I guess you can cause I don't think there is anywhere else to get breakfast around here... but just don't expect 4 star food. Anyway, when we got here, despite having a reservation for 7:30 PM, the host told us "there are people in front of us and I don't know how long it will be." UM, WHAT??? WTF do you think a reservation is??? So we waited about 30min despite having a reservation.... (yes, I know, they really don't deserve 4 stars, but seriously, the bar is REALLY low around here). So we finally got seated. Host just dropped us off and left. Didn't even offer a highchair for the kid, so we got our own. Anyway, here's our dinner, then breakfast... 1. Barrelhouse Big Sur Double IPA $8: Nice and vibrant, bitter and crisp. Not so much citrus as usual, but in a good way. 7/10 2. Hearst Ranch Chardonnay $9: Not super buttery but full bodied. Well balanced. 6/10 3. Stone Fruit Salad $9 "assorted grilled stone fruits, baby arugula, shaved shallots, and toasted pine nuts with a pomegranate vinaigrette": Oily but tasted good. Portions too small though. 5/10 4. Crab Cakes $15 "pan-roasted crab cakes with avocado crema, roasted corn salsa, micro-cilantro, and red chili oil": Not bad. Very little filler, which is awesome. But despite being heavily real crab, there's little crab flavor. Can only taste the seasoning. Not sure why. 6/10 5. New York (Steak) $32 "grilled new york strip, buttered fava beans, and grilled yukon gold potato rounds with an ancho-molasses demi": The steak was cooked medium-ish (I always order medium-rare) but that was okay. It was kinda small looking though. The potatoes were raw--that's not good. The fava beans were an interesting addition. They looked cool but didn't add anything to the dish. 5/10 6. Lamb $40 "mint-crusted rack of lamb with fig relish, roasted brussels sprouts, wild rice pilaf, and sherry syrup": Perfectly medium-rare! The semi-dried figs were delicious and a great substitute for the typical sweet fruit preserves. Surprisingly good. 9/10 7. Peach (Pie) $6 "brulee-oof-champagne poached peach, gran marnier sabayon, lavender-scented tuile, mint, floral aromatics": Got this to go. Baby was starting his transformation into the horned monster from the great depths of the earth, so...... mommy took him back to our room, and I waited for the pie and bill. Anyway, I ate the pie in our room and I loved the filling! Very fresh tasting, with plenty of natural peach flavor. The crust was good except for portions being burnt. Yes, burnt. Sigh... 7/10 Breakfast: 1. Bloody Mary $10: Thick and slightly spicy. Their mix was good, but needs a TON more alcohol. Almost tastes virgin!!! 6/10 2. Coffee $4 3. Crunchy French Toast $14 "thick brioche, dipped in batter, coated with corn flakes, and fried golden brown, with warm maple syrup and sausage": Man, it was fried to PERFECTION!!! Oooooh that crunch!!! Unfortunately the actual French Toast part was not all that. Just bread poorly dipped into bad French toast egg mixture. But the idea was so amazing I told my gf to memorize this and make it for me 10x better at home. 6/10 (The French Toast came with sausage, but see the next description for details...) 4. Pancakes Short Stack $11 "buttermilk pancakes with warm maple syrup and sausage": Very normal pancakes. The sausage though was HORRENDOUS. Like 2 cylinders of brick impregnated with sausage seasoning. Seemed like they cooked the sausage on the burner since the previous week.... 2/10 Okay yes, so the food would probably get 2/5 stars anywhere else. But this is Big Sur, soooo..... 4/5 #bigsur #maericanfood #americancuisine #breakfast #brunch #birthday2020 #bday2020

Yelp
Let's start Jan. 1, with a TERRIBLE REVIEW - just wait till you hear how this garbage can of a restaurant said "Happy New Year" to my family today. First of all please be warned this place is 100% a dictionary example of a Tourist Trap! On the specific day we unluckily landed here, the highway was blocked off literally at this business. So everyone hoping to make it to Big Sur, or the picturesque long drive to Monterrey were trapped at this dump due to the road closure. And I really wonder if the owners slipped cal trans some bucks to close the road right at their location... Moving forward, I refuse to call this business by their listed name. They do not deserve to be considered a restaurant! For the remainder of this review I'll call this bed-pan of a business "Crap Trap" (or CT for short). Crap Trap gets two stars ONLY - the first star in Yelp is mandatory no matter what, so star #2, is only because it's such a gorgeous location. But honestly, when will this crummy planet understand that when you pair crap food with a gorgeous location it's always a NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE??? 1. Service was non-existent and let me be clear - they were not understaffed! I ordered coffee and my wife ordered tea. Server dropped off drinks and that was the last time we saw him until the food came - which was a 30 min wait. I asked another server for a coffee refill and she said she'd get my server. FIRST OF ALL you never tell a customer "let me get your server"... The correct answer is always "sure no problem". And sure enough, my server never came. So I walked inside with my coffee mug and asked the first person I saw if I could have a refill. She said "you're going to have to wait while I setup this table". Ok... So I literally stood in the middle of CT and waited. Thanks CT. Fail #1... 2. We asked to be seated outside. It was lunch time on a Sunday. Every table had an umbrella, but apparently the staff at CT are also weatherman, and said it was too windy and made us lower the umbrella! FOR REAL?? Yep... Fail #2... yeah it was a little windy but it was not nearly "destroy your umbrella" windy... 3. $18 for fish and chips yielded the ridiculous portion in the picture. Three small fillets that did not taste fresh, and a small handful of steak fries... I should have sent it back, but after being there already for 45 min and all the crap I already had gone through, I just kept it... I also asked for my fries "extra crispy" and they were delivered soft and soggy. My wife ordered the falafel plate and that was a true insulting joke! Three small, clearly frozen and reheated packaged patties were dry and flavorless. No hummus was served with the plate - only a small ramekin of unfresh, canned tahini. WTF??? Who serves falafel without hummus??? Do a google search "what is served with falafel" if you think this is an odd complaint... My wife is celiac gluten-free and the server would not allow any non-gluten option against the pitas that came with it. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???!!! "No" on tortilla chips, no gluten free bread, and would not allow corn tortillas either even though they had a taco plate on the menu!! So CT clearly living up to their "actual" name... Fails #3, #4, and #5!! 4. If you're going to hire slow, ignorant, zero-work-ethic, entitled servers AT LEAST offer Wi-Fi! We'll what do you think? Um... NOPE! Despite the fact that there are three Wi-Fi signals that belong to this business, none are available to customers! There's isn't even internet provided for hotel guests!!! So, CT's fail #6... To conclude, we have yet another example of how ignorant and talentless owners of restaurants can be. The problems with CT are horrible and will ruin whatever day you've had prior. If you're looking for food on highway 1 between San Simeon and Monterrey, be very careful: most places are a combination of rip-off, awful food, and entitled poor service. But if you absolutely must eat at "Crap Trap", which wins on all three bad characteristics, stick to things a 2nd grader with a truck load of Sysco canned food can't screw up: oatmeal, scrambled eggs, cereal, French fries, tater tots, toast, water, and soda. No tip was given either since poor service is the choice of the server and validated by lack of management. Now do the right thing and KEEP DRIVING! Run from this destroyer of your precious free time :-(

Yelp
We should've read yelp reviews and not have listened to some YouTubers, but we didn't get a phone reception. I had the worst salmon of my life there. It was slow cooked to a super dry, not crispy, but cardboard texture. I could only eat half by forcing it down with a drink. They never ever check on you between taking your order and giving you a bill. And that's on a not so busy day.

Yelp
Great for a roadside eatery. Not a bad price for being a long way from any city. Worth the stop just for the scenery but take the time to get something and, if it's a nice day, eat it al fresco.

Yelp
Decent food in a beautiful setting. It was peaceful to eat outside with ocean views and the sound of the babbling koi pond adjacent to our table. I tried the roasted vegetable club. It wasn't the most exciting sandwich, but it felt healthy. The price was a bit steep for what it was (especially since it didn't come with a side). Ultimately, I think I would try to push through this stretch of the coastal highway after Morro Bay without stopping for lunch, but I think Ragged Point restaurant is about as good as you can get here.
