"Jazz, history, and beer. The Rex is a spot that will never disappoint. Celebrating the power of Jazz music, The Rex might seem like a dive bar, but rather it is a bar full of history and life. Walking in the doors you immediately hear tooting and buzzing of horns and other brass instruments, paired with laughter and the joy of music lovers alike. Beer is not far from the hands of the listeners, seated at the rustic wooden tables, ears open to the powerful live music." - Jam3

The Rex is an absolute gem of a restaurant! From the moment you walk in, the ambiance sets the tone for an unforgettable evening. The live jazz elevates the dining experience to another level. The musicians are nothing short of magical, weaving together melodies that transport you to another world. Tonight, I was particularly captivated by the saxophone—each note seemed to dance through the air, wrapping around the delicious aromas of the food. The service was fantastic; attentive yet unobtrusive, making sure our glasses were always full and our needs met. If you're looking for a place where great food meets extraordinary music, look no further than The Rex. It’s an experience that lingers long after you leave. Highly recommend!

It was a great experience. Well priced. We were concerned about being able to hear the jazz club but we couldn’t hear them from the room at all. It was a cool old building with great art everywhere. We had a shared bathroom situation but never had to wait to use it. So that was great. The location was perfect for our concert, a short walk away from the Rogers centre Enjoyed our stay

Stayed here for the Eras tour and was really glad to find a place close by for a reasonable price! Very friendly staff, reasonable prices, and includes some coffee/tea/juice and toast each morning with your stay. I appreciated the heaters in each room that kept us cozy. It is a charming place with lots of character! It is definitely older and right downtown, so there will be some noise outside your window. Overall, great bang for your buck!

We didn't try the hotel, but we were there for the jazz club portion of the Rex. It was a fun night, there were multiple groups playing for the cover charge. Was well worth it. It's a cozy place, the staff are quick, attentive, and friendly. Would definitely go again.

Jazz bar with live music and $10 cover! Very nice atmosphere. 5:30-7:30 on Mondays. Tables face towards the performers. Wide selection of beers, ciders, drinks, and food (typical bar selection + soup of the day vibes). Got sushed a lot in our group, but we were probably being a bit too loud (although we were at the very back and whispering). In any case very pleasant, affordable, good way to wind down!

This jazz bar would be my favorite for atmosphere. I believe the owner of bar is a serious person for jazz music live show. All the seats must face to the stage and have to keep quiet when the music plays. If you want to enjoy the pure jazz, this would be your first choice.

All of the chairs at the tables have to be facing the stage. To clarify, if there are 6 chairs per table, they all have to face the stage. "IT'S THE RULE" he told us.The jazz band was akin to a high school band to add to the poor experience ,with a $10 cover charge. You're not allowed to turn some of them to chat with your group face to face. We had reservations in the back upper section. There were no other patrons there. That's idiotic. There are far better bars in the area and it'll be easy to find a server in one of them with a brain.

I was in the bar at Friday night. Music was nice, the setting is very school like and my impression was people from outside are not really welcome. However, if you like to watch people a good place. The interior looked very old, so the room ratings make total sense for me. But in a bar it isn’t too bad …
