I was truly amazed that this rink is open on March 26, 2024 given the mild temperatures we've been having for a few weeks now! The rest of the rinks in NYC have all closed due to the warmth. Small and cozy rink right outside the Brookfield Place. Usually, not too crowded. November 16, 2024 update: the rink had opened for the season! March 9, 2025 update: the rink IS closed for the season! !

We really enjoyed our experience here. It was warm out today in the low to mid 40's so the ice wasn't super great, a little like pond ice, but if you are looking for competition ready ice at a small outdoor winter rink you have unusual expectations. They ice was resurfaced right before we got on which was perfect as who doesn't love a fresh ice cut. To get to the edge of the ice check in was a breeze. We brought our own skates, but we're greeted warmly by the staff at the rental area all the same. Stepping onto the ice surface we immediately started to glide around and have a great time. The view of the water as the sunset was gorgeous. We look forward to heading back again to enjoy this rink.

Google
Good price, amazing view while you skate, not too full even on holidays. It was a highlight of my trip.

Google
This has to be one of the most magical places in NYC simply because it so peaceful and such a great time with gorgeous views of the skyline and trees lit up for the holidays! My boyfriend and I went during Thanksgiving and it will be a memory we will never forget!

Google
Had a lot of fun, nice place! Twice cheaper than others city rinks. It was a sunny day and the ice was melting a little, there were some small puddles, but that didn't stop us from having fun. I advise you to come early in the morning or in the evening on a sunny day. but overall a very cool place, the kids loved it.

Google
The place is gorgeous and connected with the World Trade Center. The Starbucks at this place is also pretty. Me and my friend came here to do ice skating which we had a lot of fun. The staff can be a bit friendly but they are busy so maybe that why they sound a bit rude with attitude

This place is so awesome!!! The best view you can get. The staff was so friendly. I had a great time. This place is amazing. Not crowded at all.

I was here at 3:10 to purchase a ticket but the women refused to take the card and told me to buy the ticket online. I was having problems with buying ticket online then I saw her taking other people’s cards right in front of me so I asked her again that why she wouldn’t take my card but theirs. Then she said that she doesn’t take cards but took other’s cs it was close to closing time. Which didn’t make sense cs it was an hour session starting at 3:15 and she started taking cards literally right after me. It just seemed like a lame excuse cs there were two card readers right in front of her that work perfectly. I was very disappointed with the service.

Yelp
Great spot for a quick skate, lots of ambiance and scenery. Fun for a little date night activity either before or after dinner or a movie which you can catch nearby. There is a theater and lots of dining options. Enjoy!!

Yelp
The view is amazing. I felt really comfortable and save. The rink is pretty big. Everyone was nice and friendly (staff) my friends and i had a great time. We really enjoyed our time. It was an amazing experience.

Yelp
The Rink at Brookfield down near World Trade center in lower Manhattan in NYC was amazing! My Man took me for my 44th birthday and we had so much fun! The manager and staff Mike and Chris were professional, friendly and even recorded us skating together. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Beautiful view. Come for the sunset. This rink is located at Brookfield Place and it has a scenic view of the Hudson River. They have fun music playing in the background while you skate. And they also sanitize the entire rink in between sessions as part of their covid measures. This rink is small but it's not crowded especially on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays. However they don't have lockers so pack light while planning a trip here. The fees are $15 an hour to skate and $5 for skate rental. They also offer private and group lessons.

Yelp
Daughter skated this morning , staff was wonderful . As a family had a great experience . BTW had the opportunity to get some once in a lifetime photos of ice rink in the middle of NYC

Yelp
I definitely agree with the other comments on price. At $20 for 1.5 hours (that is, if you arrive on time) and a small rink w/ no lockers, maybe you're better off going to the LeFrak center. I do think the plus here is the convenience. Brookfield Place, Oculus, One World Observatory, 9/11 Memorial Museum all here, if you're a tourist and you want to pack a bunch of activities into one day. Also, I tried on two pairs of skates and both weren't wet, so maybe the staff are better about cleaning them now? Not sure about prices at other locations, but my family also paid $45 for a 15-minute lesson (skate rental + admissions included), which felt super pricey as well. I can't really speak to how well the instructor taught, because it was for my brother who is an absolute beginner, but it seemed like he was frequently looking elsewhere. Also make sure to check Groupon for deals on classes.

Yelp
My partner and I took a 30-minute ice skating lesson with JC on a Sunday afternoon. It was packed with kids, semi-privates, etc. and the shoe rental area was HECTIC. However, JC (who has great background experience in hockey and figure skating) was friendly, instructive, and allowed us to take the lesson at our own pace. Others have mentioned that the rink is small comparative to other rinks in the city, but everyone even the kids gave us space and recognized that we were beginners. Ultimately, we learned how to fall, balance, and the basic mechanics of ice skating. We'd recommend taking lessons with JC! TIP: The sign-in for the ice skating school is inside next to the escalators, where you get wrist bands depending on what you signed up for.

Andrew S.

Yelp
The ice was a soupy, unsafe mess! Such a tourist trap, avoid.

Bailey R.

Yelp
This place is SKETCHY. Group of guys hanging out behind the counter, the one handing out skates told me if I gave him $5 cash he'd hold my bag while I skated. Or I had the option to skate with my bag? I gave him $3 and he accepted. Ice was melted in huge puddles all over the rink. Not safe. Only gave it an extra star because the sunset view was beautiful. Final thoughts: Untrustworthy staff & untrustworthy ice. Chelsea Pier skating is cheaper anyway.
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Pros: The season pass! $200 for the whole season. If you skate 3-4 times or more a week for the whole season, that comes out to almost nothing, especially if you compare to how expensive and crowded other rinks get. Cons: This rink is extremely small. It may be the smallest rink you've ever been to. And sometimes the ice isn't in the best condition. You probably won't have much room to jump or do freestyle exercises, but I mostly come here to work on simple turns and other stuff that you can get done without taking up a lot of space anyway.

Jodi G.

Yelp
Went here recently and the kids had a blast. much better than previous experience. staff much better. still rec going on off-peak times and bring own skates.

Mirei T.

Yelp
Fun place for outdoor skating in the city with beautiful view!!! The staffs were extremely friendly and helpful!

Andrea S.

Yelp
What a lovely venue to skate at. This rink overlooks the Hudson River. You can see Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty from the rink promenade. Schedule your skating time for twilight because the sunset is beautiful. Friendly staff and plenty to do at Brookfield Mall.

Yelp
Amazing outdoor rink in scenic NYC. So friendly and a great family place to bring the kids for a spin on the ice! They have cute walkers for little ones to hold onto on the ice so that mom and dad don't break their back, lol. What an enjoyable experience. Lessons are available too from an amazing staff!

Yelp
The skating experience itself is fine but the reason why I'm giving this place a low rating is because of the STAFF. Extremely rude, unprofessional, and worst of all HOSTILE. There was one guy in particular - he seemed older than the rest and had facial hair. He threatened bodily violence on my partner because he was pushing thru the line and eventually me without any manners. When my partner tried to protect me from being pushed over by him, he threatened to hit her. TO HIT HER!!! We felt really unsafe after that. What kind of place of business allows this kind of behavior from their employees! Inexcusable. I will tell all of my friends to steer clear of this place until this person is fired.

Yelp
The staff is lovely and the views can't be beat. Great skate in NYC. We can't wait to come back with the whole family.

Yelp
As noted by other reviews, the man working at the info desk, Marc, for The Rink was very rude and unprofessional. My family and I were out on the ice, and were told at that point that the on-ice sliding chairs for little kids were an additional charge and reservation only. That was frustrating, but during or our ice-time, we took off our skates, and went back inside to rent one. I asked Marc about this, and in passing asked why, with a 2 year old who can only go on the ice with one of these, it had not been suggested we rent one. Marc pointed at the pricing list for The Rink and said it was right there. He was right. It was. In small print, in the middle of a long list, was a line item about an extra charge for this. I missed that when checking in with my family and kids for our first time being there. While I would encourage The Rink to clarify this, I did miss it. The problem was that, Marc scoffed when pointing to this line, rather overtly suggesting that I was pretty darn dumb for missing this. I told him it was pretty hard to notice. He said it was "right there," scornfully. I was taken aback, and confused, about why this person was randomly being aggressive to me. Unfortunately, we ended up going back and forth a few times. There was absolutely zero awareness on his end that he was in a customer service role. Or that people like me are there to go ice skating with their kids. Rather he proceeded to make me feel inferior for missing this pricing line when checking in. He would not stop talking. He had the last word, and in his eyes it was clear he felt he "won." I asked for his name, stating I would complain, and to that he said Marc, and then he emphasized "with a c," so I wouldn't forget or get it wrong! He was goading me on. Marc seems like a young and rather unhappy employee. As a father and older person, I would encourage him to reconsider his behavior, and to especially understand that in a customer service role, he is supposed to help people, not upset them, compete with them and taunt them.

Yelp
We came from upstate and enjoyed the atmosphere of the rink experience. Tons of fun, clean and what a view!! We will be back!!

Yelp
Worst. Rink. In. The. World. Total slush. Defective freezing equipment. Avoid!!!

Yelp
Terrific!! My family had a wonderful time skating at the Rink at Brookfield Place. It's the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The Rink is easy to get to with parking very close by. We found it not super crowded - no long lines. It was very well organized. Management was present and engaged. You cannot beat the beautiful location looking out upon the water with the Statue of Liberty in the background. Check this rink out!

Rene K.

Yelp
Skaters beware! The rink has a great location, but the staff there are all rude and the establishment does not follow social distancing or do any basic sanitizing. The skates all look very dirty and gross! Yuck!

Robert W.

Yelp
The website to purchase tickets is poorly designed. That said, I was forced to purchase two sets of tickets for my family. When we arrived, I explained to front desk attendant who had zero sympathy and proceeded to lecture me. Now, somehow I got to be where I am (which includes being able to afford $90 to skate for two hours) without her. I held back from saying anything since my children were with me. Nevertheless, management: teach employees how to respect customers.

Yelp
We had the most terrible experience with the Rink at Brookfield Place with Gregory and Petukhov! If I can give it 0 stars I would! A few weeks ago, I had reserved a skating timeslot for 15 people on a Saturday afternoon for my daughter's birthday. Our party of over 20 arrived at the check in desk at The Rink and was told that the skating rink is being shut down starting with our session (note that ppl from the previous session were still skating on the rink and ppl with private lessons were also skating well after). We did not receive any prior notice about the cancellation, no phone call, no email! My entire party, kids and adults (over 20 ppl) had arrived to receive the very disappointing news. We were absolutely livid!!! Because of rain in the weather forecast I had emailed the night before to check and was assured that skating is on and if there is any cancellation I would be notified in advanced. To be told that our session is cancelled at the time of check- in is beyond frustrating! Plus there was no rain! It is absolutely unacceptable business practice! Our friends came from all over the city. Even some notice (30- 60 mins) would have been courteous and at least some of them didn't have to make the trek for nothing! My daughter was so disappointed and unhappy on her birthday because of this. I didn't even get the opportunity to change our plans since there was no notice given. This is such poor business practice without a thought of common courtesy for the patrons or decency of an explanation or apology for the extreme inconvenience they caused! Without a doubt, neither myself or anyone else in my party would ever come back to this place!!!!

Yelp
Beautiful scenery, and everyone was so polite. It is a great place for the whole family. A great place for future holiday cards.

Yelp
So excited to have an ice rink in my neighborhood. They are open everyday 10am to 10pm. Skating times for 1.5 hours which is enough time. It's $15 to skate and $5 for rentals. Skates are in good condition and staff are friendly. They let you use orange cones to aid when skating but not ideal for first time adults. The changing area gets a bit hectic when the skate time is over. More seating to change shoes would be better. The rink is right on the Hudson so we get a nice view of the water. Great location!
google avatar

Rose B.

Yelp
My Daughter loved skating at this rink. It has the most beautiful backdrop of the Hudson River. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Skates are easy to rent and they have an inside area to tie skates etc. great experience.

Yelp
Discovered this place recently, all went okay except waiting for the session before me to finish then our session start, however they had to clean the ice and it was longer than normal. Price is reasonable and they have seals for little kids to hold when skiing or sit and get pushed. The rink itself is very small compared to other rinks.

Geri M.

Yelp
The Rink at Brookfield Place is absolutely Beautiful! They have great ice. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. JC was so helpful and nice! Great place to spend some family time. Nothing like skating the city skyline!

Val W.

Yelp
Gorgeous setting. Lovely coaching staff. Highly recommend as a fun family activity.

Deda M.

Yelp
I was at the Rink at Brookfield on January 1st during the 600pm-730pm session. One of the employees, he was thinner out of the three distributing skates and had a short hair cut (without the top bun), pushed my girlfriend to get by. When I put my arm up between them, he let me know that if I wasn't a woman he would slap me. When I asked why he would slap me for stopping him from pushing someone, he informed me that he worked there as if that was a reasonable response. I asked him if he believed being staff gave him the right to push customers. He then said that he said "excuse me" initially. He definitely didn't say excuse me. Regardless, putting my hand up in between him and someone else doesn't need violent threats as a response.

Toby W.

Yelp
Had a horrible experience. The ice was melted and basically I was skating in puddles of water. The cashier was admitting without warning people of the ice condition. Skated for a few scary minutes and asked for a refund. They refused to refund and said no refunds. Would NEVER recommend. I've skated all over NYC and never be experienced this kind of unprofessional and uncaring establishment.

Lena G.

Yelp
The area itself is beautiful. Location is very nice. Worst part are the skates - super old, wet and rusty! We called ahead they said they have hockey skates but when we arrived the children working the rentals told us they only had one pair of hockey skates for each size and they were rented out. The rink is tiny, the place to buy tickets is within the mall, the bathroom is all the way upstairs and the place to rent skates is in a shack. There are no lockers or storage areas. For $60 for 3 people, we will not be back.

Wendy C.

Yelp
The Rink at Brookfield Place is such a marvelous rink. The city views over the river, the lights, the trees, it is truly magical! Would highly recommend it!

Angel C.

Yelp
Beautiful day to skate today. Skating experience was nice, but it was a little disturbing hearing a crazed customer acting very belligerent. NO regard for the children around him. Very disturbing..

Michele A.

Yelp
The is a cute fun rink. It was great for children as I brought my niece, a friend and daughter. They had a blast. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is a half rink as I call it; but, the ice cut was pretty good. I had been at a half rink in a mall just the week before and they never cut the ice so this was great. Finally, the backdrop was amazing. I was there at dusk and when we finished skating we went up to the food court. It was a great place to meet family.

Justin S.

Yelp
Terrible staffs. They don't respect customers and ignore customers' inquiries. I was there with my kids many times and this winter's service was just horrible. The staff inside the rink (hard to figure out who he is since he doesn't wear a name tag or anything) tried to kick us out because we asked about a walker, which we paid for, after he was late for 10 minutes. He thinks he's the boss there. Nice location and cozy place but I can't recommend, especially families with kids, due to poor management and aweful staffs.

Sean C.

Yelp
Bottom Line: There are better outdoor rinks to experience than "The Rink at Brookfield Place" Pro: - No Line or Short Line - Beautiful View of the Sunset in the Afternoon - Near Brookfield Place for Food such as Hudson Eats, Num Pang, The District, and Mighty Quinn's Cons - Expensive: $15 Admission, $5 Skate Rental - Skates Rentals were Wet/Gross - Tiny Rink - Tons of Children Skating Around You - 90 Minute Sessions (so Arrive on Time!) - No Easy Access to Winter Palace via Rubber Mats - None/Limited Seating - Your By The Water So It's COLD!!

Katherine S.

Yelp
I just had my son's birthday party here and it could not have been better! The staff was extremely kind and helpful, and the rink was the perfect size for children. Sent from Windows Mail

Aidana B.

Yelp
Beautiful rink and amazing instructors. One half hour lesson includes skates rental and an admission for 1,5 hours, so you have some practice time afterwards.

Chris K.

Yelp
Excellent staff and gorgeous location in quiet Battery Park City. Overall great experience!
