"When the iconic Hôtel de Crillon on Place de la Concorde reopened in 2017 after a top-to-bottom renovation, it not only upgraded the layout and decor of the palace originally built by 18th-century architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel for Louis XV, it also introduced the glorious Grands Appartements by Karl Lagerfeld, one of four designers who worked on the project. As the name suggests, it’s basically an apartment comprising two suites awash in muted gray tones inspired by “the silvery light of Paris.” Lagerfeld designed bespoke furniture, hung his own photographs, installed a dressing room hidden behind a bookshelf, and created an eye-popping bathtub carved from one massive block of marble.
