San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings

"The Roll is Sushi Hakko’s more casual, lunch-only pop-up out of their space in Cow Hollow. The menu focuses on futomaki, and rice bowls topped with sashimi, unagi, shrimp tempura, and more. You can also look forward to a SoMa location opening up later this year." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1

Found a hidden gem sushi spot on Union street! The rolls and kaisen don had incredibly fresh sushi and the seasoned rice was perfect. The crab meat roll was surprisingly good, a great option if you can't eat raw seafood. Definitely the best spot for sushi lunch in the area.

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere for dining, and the service is excellent. However, the taste of the food is quite ordinary. The sauce is rather salty, and the ginger is very dry.

Sushi Hakko is a sushi restaurant located on Union St and their specialty is their kaisen don, which is dish consisting of rice topped with seafood, and their rolls. I got the Moriawase Kaisen Don, which is their signature dish, and their red blossom roll cake for dessert. The Moriawase consisted of tuna, salmon, scallop, uni and more! All the pieces of the kaisen don tasted fresh and high quality, and they give you a few pieces of seaweed to eat with the rice and seafood. Their desserts are also great! They have a variety of roll cakes, and they are soft and pillowy and not too overwhelmingly sweet. I ordered both the red blossom and the early morning. The red blossom consists of red bean, and the early morning has green tea with a more bitter after taste. I personally really liked the red bean. Their staff were friendly and attentive, and the inside is quite spacious with more seating in the back. Overall, the seafood was fresh, and the desserts were delicious! I would definitely come back and try the rest of their dishes!

Google
i absolutely loved my experience at The Roll! we got the tomato sunomono and the truffle mushroom appetizers, the signature maki roll, the signature moriawase kaisen don, and the red velvet cake from Rice Flour. everything was so unique, fresh, and delicious. the crunch from the pickles in the maki was SO satisfying i don’t think i’ve ever had a pickle so crunchy. the fish in both the maki and kaisen don was so fresh and melt-in-your-mouth buttery. the interior design of the space is beautiful, clean and full of light, and the staff was so friendly and attentive. i can’t wait to come back here ♥️

If you’re not a fan of traditional Japanese-style kaisen don, this might not be the spot for you. They don’t serve dishes loaded with artificial flavors or overpowering sauces. Instead, they let the exceptional quality of their ingredients shine. Their dishes capture the fresh essence of the ocean, with perfectly marinated rice and fish that will leave you wanting more. I personally savored every bite of this delightful experience!

I suddenly had a craving for raw fish when I was walking through Cow Hollow. And then the universe delivered with The Roll! I was gonna settle for Whole Foods sushi lol. I’m glad I saw this place as I was making my way to the bus. The Roll specializes in futomaki, so I got their signature roll (called The Roll). Because I got the lunch set, it came with the seaweed salad first. It’s was so refreshing, especially with cucumber and this tiny but mighty tomato that packed a tomato-y punch. I added fatty tuna exclusively yubu, which is inari at the base. It was delicious and I like acidity that came from the vinegar and pickled radish. I think it overpowered the delicate tuna, but I would order it again. I like the textures between the soft tuna and the crunchy radish. The futomaki was the final dish, and it was filling! It had bluefin tuna, salmon, avocado, cucumber, fried crab stick, pickled radish, shiso, and egg. It’s a symphony of flavors and textures, and adding a touch of soy sauce brought it all together. Despite all the different flavors, the fish was the star. You can taste the freshness of the tuna and salmon among the mix. Speaking of which, everything I ate was fresh and high-quality. After reading their story on their site, I totally get their concept of approachable omakase. It’s a casual and inviting space where you can have an omakase-style meal without breaking the bank. My meal was $35 total and I think that’s pretty good for the city. And the wait staff were really nice. It was my first time, so they explained the chef’s concepts and the menu. And I particularly liked how they partnered with a brewer to create beer that compliments the menu. I didn’t feel like drinking, but I want to try a glass next time. There were 10 pieces of futomaki and I was so full that I couldn’t order dessert. And I usually order something sweet to finish. I am definitely coming back to try their nigiri set and dessert.

This place has food equivalent to heaven. Got the curry rice bowl, salmon sashimi rice bowl, and the sushi. Each dish I loveeee and the green tea brand they carry is solid. If I could I’d eat here everyday!!

Yelp
Wow. I cannot say thank you enough for this new addition to the area! Japanese food (sushi in particular) is my absolute favorite. I've had the privilege of eating at some amazing restaurants and omakase spots over the years, but dining out is a very special treat for me these days. I ordered delivery, which is a huge gamble even with prestigious restaurants, especially when it pertains to fresh fish. Hands down, this was the best delivery experience I've ever had with sushi. I ordered: Silky Maguro Don Uni ikura inari 3 piece inari set (scallop, snow crab, salmon) Tobiko nigiri The ingredients and fish were of incredibly high quality and beautifully packaged. I prefer the cut of fish to steal the show and The Roll provided light accents (marinades, wasabi, tobiko, yuzo, etc.) that elevated natural flavors and textures as opposed to masking them. For the quality of the food I received, this place is beyond reasonably priced. I'm service industry myself and I understand it takes time for new establishments to get their footing, so perhaps some of the comments I read regarding price vs. quantity/quality were in relation to that. The Roll is not claiming to be anything it's not and they deliver on their promise of quality, taste, and presentation. Please keep up the hard work and consistency! I would love to take my parents here and see it in person next time they visit. Thank you!

Yelp
I ordered delivery from The Roll and was blown away by the quality! I tried the Signature Roll and the Bara Kaisen Don. The kaisen don was filled with thick slices of fresh salmon, amberjack, tuna, and scallop. I was pleasantly surprised to see the addition of crab and scallop at such a reasonable price point. The complimentary seaweed salad was seasoned perfectly. The Signature Roll is signature for a reason - I loved the mix of flavors and textures, especially from the shiso leaf. Very solid spot for fresh fish for great value, and I'll be back to dine in person!

Yelp
Wanted to love this place, but while everything here was beautifully presented, some pieces of fish were definitely off and later that night both me and my boyfriend had a huge stomachache and definitely were affected by the poor quality of some of the fish. Needless to say, the salmon pieces in particular tasted a bit off, and all the pieces of fish were strangely warm. A lot of pieces of fish were also out since we came at the end of the day, so they updated our 3 piece nigiri set with 2 new pieces without even asking us for our preference. Also, the moriawase only came with 3 pieces of seaweed... wish it came with more so we could make more handrolls! The service overall was also a bit slow. On the up side, the rice is well seasoned and the service was good (We were started off with complimentary seaweed salad). For 2 people, we ordered the moriawase, 2 rolls, and 5 nigiri to share. The portions were on the smaller side I would say. not sure if I would be back given out extremely upset stomachs after the meal though...

Yelp
Food (5/5) For our party of four, we ordered the Kama Nitsuke (fish collar), Kinoko Nimono (simmered mushrooms), one Signature Roll, one Snow Crab Roll, and two Moriawase signature Kaisen Dons. For dessert we ordered a matcha roll cake and red bean roll cake. Highly recommend the rolls - both the Signature and Snow Crab rolls were delicious, flavorful, and fresh. I think they also season the rice in the rolls. The signature Moriawase Kaisen Don was also very fresh and a beautiful assortment of seafood. I would not recommend the Kama Nitsuke nor the Kinoko Nimono personally as the portions were not large. My friend complained that the fish collar we got was small and bony. The mushrooms were fine but nothing special. The red bean roll cake was delicious - would recommend, had great texture. The matcha roll cake was delicious but pretty basic. Price (5/5) For what you get and considering the freshness of the seafood, I think the rolls (~$18) and kaisen don ($38) are fairly priced. As for the appetizers, not so much. Wait Time (5/5) We came around 1pm on a weekend and were seated quickly. Ambiance (5/5) Pretty interior, pretty spacious, and seems newly renovated? Bathroom was airy and clean. Service (4/5) Our servers were friendly and attentive though perhaps overly attentive at times haha. No other concerns. Parking/Access (5/5) SF parking can be hard to find sometimes but we were lucky enough to find a spot within a block's distance. I will definitely be back for the rolls or kaisen don as I like how the food is simple and fresh. No Philadelphia rolls here. I would not reorder the apps.

Yelp
tldr; beautiful space and pretty upscale dining experience for a relatively affordable price! fish was so melt-in-your-mouth fresh and service was excellent. price: ~$20/person recs: scallop inari, maguro roll The Roll is a beautifully decorated restaurant specializing in futomaki rolls in the Union St neighborhood and is a super good option for small groups -- especially people who like Insta-worthy food. - The Roll: Delicious and complex -- my favorite part was the textural contrast that the deep fried kanikama offered - Maguro Roll: Features delicious fatty tuna that totally melted in my mouth. - Scallop Inari: Sweet from the inari pocket and buttery from the scallop and mayo dressing. The 3-pc set is perfect for sharing with friends. Service was super thorough and friendly. We made reservations, but walk-ins seem doable up until 12:10-1pm when it seems to get more packed. Our server explained every dish that came out, which we really appreciated, and all the rolls were truly good enough to eat without soy sauce. Would 100% come back for lunch here!

Yelp
Ordered for pick up. Was impressed by the maguro don. The presentation and quality reminded me of Japan. The rice was seasoned well, tuna was fresh , and was served with real wasabi. Would definitely order this dish again if I am in the area. Also tried the roll which is a futomaki with several types of fish. I picked out the shiso leaf though since I didn't like the flavor of the shiso with the other ingredients.

Yelp
I had such an amazing lunch here and can't wait to come back! I'd heard about this unassuming place in the Marina from a friend so I was so excited to try it and it did not disappoint! The Signature futomaki was delicious -- the combination of fish, veggies, subtly marinated rice and seaweed made for a great mix of texture and taste, and everything was super fresh. My waitress also recommended the kinoko nimono starter which I loved. I love mushrooms, and they were incredibly juicy and had the right balance of light, Japanese-style flavor. Would highly recommend if you like mushrooms! I was so full after, and for the quality of the ingredients, the total was super affordable. Would love to try the kaisen don next!

Yelp
I'm back! I had so many requests on more photos and a new review because this is a start up. Here is my honest review again! This is a place I'd visit once a month! The fish is very very fresh and the flavor the very overwhelming! I would highly recommend the crab roll AND a fish roll because the flavors are a bit different. The rolls remind me of the korean kimbap and have the extra crunchy texture. The mushroom soup accents the flavors a bit differently and is different from the typical miso soup that is provided in most sushi restaurants. The bowls as well have well marinated fish. It comes in various layers and we are able to make our own roll with different combinations of fish! Every bite has different flavor and texture and we are able to control what we want to eat.

Yelp
I loved the food here. It's fine Japanese cuisine elevated through presentation and balance. I wish all rice tasted like the rice in the kaisen don (though it's probably for the best that it doesn't). We had: Karaage ($12) - 3/5. I'd skip this. The chicken is tender but there wasn't a ton of flavor, even after dipping in ponzu. Heirloom tomato sunomono ($9) - 4/5. This was wild. I don't know what the gelatin was but it tasted like dashi and had a lot of umami depth. Paired with the cucumbers and tomatoes it was a really refreshing, cooling dish. The acid got to be a bit too much towards the end, so I think this needs to be enjoyed in small servings. Signature roll ($18) - 5/5. This roll didn't require any soy sauce or dips. It had a great balance of textures and flavors, from the creaminess of the avocado to the slight spice of the shiso. Moriawase ($38) and Bara Kaisen ($30). I'll review these together because they're quite similar. For more variety, I would recommend the Moriawase, but if you just want to gorge yourself on fish the Bara Kaisen is the way to go. All the fish is really fresh, and the rice is so good. It's vinegary and sweet and delicious wrapped in the seaweed that comes with the dish. You're meant to eat around the bowl until the rice starts peeking through, then eat that with the fish. The fish is presented like art, especially for the Moriawase, and it's great fun taking your pick of what to eat next. The interior is elegant and modern, and actually quite small. I don't know how busy they get, but you can make reservations.

Yelp
If you're looking for top-notch sushi at reasonable prices, The Roll is a must-visit! I was especially impressed by their signature "The Roll" and the chirashi bowls--both were packed with fresh, high-quality fish. The portions were generous, and each dish was beautifully presented, making it as much a visual treat as a culinary one. The service was equally outstanding. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive, checking in throughout the meal to ensure everything exceeded our expectations (and it absolutely did). I'll definitely be returning whenever I'm craving delicious sushi in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Super glad to have tried this pop up at Hakko in the Marina! And very excited to for their official grand opening at their new location soon. The Roll is known for their futomaki -- but I've never had futomaki this elegantly presented before. The signature roll was so fun and loaded with 4 different types of fish. We also ordered their signature kaisen don (the moriawase); the fish quality was good and they serve the don with seaweed so you can make little hand rolls with your fish. A delightful experience!

Yelp
Nice budget friendly option on the weekend sharing the space with Sushi Hakko. Service was super quick and friendly. Our waitress introduced each dish to us with care. The portions are very generous, and fish is very fresh. The oden soup was light but flavorful. Would definitely recommend checking this place out on the weekends!

Yelp
Incredible futo roll that was really filling. So delicious and super fresh fish! I did a pick up order but the restaurant interior looks minimalistic and intimate

Yelp
First time dining at The Roll, and had high expectations from the raving reviews. We ordered: Chicken karaage Fish collar The signature roll Moriawase kaisen don Unagi don Velvet roll cake Red bean roll cake Some highlights that set this place apart - they use high quality ingredients, such as real wasabi, high tier soy sauce, and sushi vinegar that is made in house, and ease of reservation The good - -The chicken karaage and fish collar were both very good and nice and juicy -The signature roll and Moriawase kaisen don were both made with high quality ingredients and had a good fish to rice ratio. -red bean roll cake - not too sweet and was unique Some negatives - 1. The unagi don - the presentation gave us high hopes, but the unagi itself was not warm at all. It was probably the same temperature as the fish in the Moriawase kaisen don. 2. The velvet roll cake - the breading for roll cake was very dry and would not order again. Overall, great pop up with high quality ingredients, but for the price point, I'm not sure if it is worth. Taking off a star because of the unagi don and velvet roll cake.

Yelp
The Roll is an amazing pop-up, do not miss out on it! Super fresh, high quality fish. It's in the space of Hakko and is open for lunch and dinner on Sundays. The chirashi dons were amazing. Also the inari and signature roll. We were delighted with the prices, the fish, and the service. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Came here saturday with my party of 5! We made a reservation for 1 and were seated a bit later but it was ok. The restaurant is pretty spacious and the ambience was really nice. The staff were attentive and went through the menu with us when we were seated. We started with the karage. The chicken was juicy and the sauce had a nice tang to it but probably wouldn't order this again since the portion was small. We then ordered the signature roll, the salmon roll, tuna roll, and unagi roll. These were the best rolls i have head and star of the show. The fish tasted all really fresh but no fishiness to it. The ratio of rice to the filling was also perfect as it wasn't too much rice and the rice was also flavored really well with their own house made vinegar. We also ordered the sake don which is the salmon don. The salmon was so fresh and when dipped in their house made soy sauce was the best bite ever. Once you reached the rice we ate it with seaweed like a hand roll which was nice. Overall, I will totally come back here especially for their rolls! When every dish came out the staff gave us an introduction behind the ingredients and also told us how to eat them! Next time I also want to try the rolls they have too!

Yelp
Another successful endeavor by Mins Group. They are temporarily operating out of Sushi Hakko for lunch only because their permanent location is still under construction. Chef Alex and his team creates amazing classic Japanese dishes such as Kaisendon and oden, but includes more innovative dishes such as rolls. The seafood is always super fresh and dishes have we'll-balanced flavors. Everything we had was amazing, but my favorites are the Kaisendon, crab roll and the The Roll.
google avatar

Rochelle S.

Yelp
Finally got to try The Roll as some takeout sushi (so cannot speak to eating in the restaurant). I was really impressed. I thought since these rolls are more elevated they would be a lot more expensive, but they really aren't. I got the signature roll, and it was packed full with crab, tuna, salmon, radish, cucumber, and avocado. The mint was a nice addition, and it tasted super fresh. The presentation for takeout was good in a nice wooden box. The serving size was also great. The rice is already seasoned, so I did use soy sauce because it's my favorite condiment, but you need much much less because it's already so flavorful. I'll be back to try eating in next time.

Yelp
Amazing! I went on Friday for lunch with my husband. We tried the two signatures dish: the roll (futomaki) and the moriawase (kaisen don). Fish was fresh, rice was tasty..everything was delicious! The service was a little bit slow, but very gentle. Also after we ordered another roll and took a while to have it they gave us one dessert (very appreciated and it was also good). The restaurant is also very nice.
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
We started with this mushroom appetizer that they recommended. It was as delicious as a mushroom can be, creamy and kinda sugary. But $8 for a tiny bowl, I don't think it was really worth the money. We also ordered the signature roll and kaisen don. The kaisen don was nothing special, a very typical kaisen don. The rice was a bit sticky and was sticking together making it hard to scoop out. They only gave us 3 pieces of nori which wasn't nearly enough. The fish was a bit warm but still not bad. Really loved the ikura in it though. Also wish they cut the sashimi smaller. The signature roll was really delicious. Loved all the textures in it and good portion size. For dessert, we got this green tea cake and it was very enjoyable. The cake was very soft and moist. The green tea was not too powerful but you can definitely taste it. It was not too sweet, which is the best Asian compliment. I also ordered the yuzu soda which they said was made in house and it was quite good. Very strong yuzu flavor and I enjoyed. Overall, pretty good experience. Just docking off points because the kaisen don was just alright, the portion size of the mushroom appetizer was disappointing, and the tables were soooo small and it was quite constricting.

Yelp
I took my family to The Roll for something different from usual Japanese restaurants. First of all we all enjoyed sushi rice based house-made vinegar. It definitely gives unique flavor to sushi and rolls. Among the appetizers I strongly recommend Kinoko Nimono and Oden Soup. Personally I enjoy the their signature roll "The Roll" the most. The amount of sushi rice with ingredients are well balanced and very tasty. Service was on point specially the owner Jay was super friendly and nice. If you leave Japanese restaurants hungry, look for a generous portion and something different , The Roll is the best place for you!!
google avatar

Yelp
Once you try The Roll - you will never wanna try futomaki anywhere else! O R D E R E D - chicken kaarage - kinoko nimono - japanese potato salad - heirloom tomatoes - the signature roll - tune roll - crab roll - the signature kaisen don - 3 slices of their dessert cakes V E R D I C T Chef Alex and his team really packs it in with as much fish as possible in each and every single one of their role creations. The ambiance is very casual and welcoming. The team doesn't make you feel rushed at all. The variety includes tuna (fatty and lean), salmon, amberjack, snow crab, unagi and I love the shiso addition to every roll. I can't get enough shiso. Also to call out their appetizers, my favorite was between their heirloom tomatoes and the kinoko nimono (mushroom), both dishes were so flavorful and the sauce, jelly and presentation was so tasty. They are only available for a limited amount of time inside Sushi Hakko for lunch and for dessert, you gotta try the decadent and moist cakes made by @riceflour_sf. Make your reservation today and you won't regret it!

Yelp
Definitely recommend! The food was so fresh- definitely one of my favorite places for sashimi. The service was great, the staff were knowledgeable about the menu and were super nice. The overall experience was great.

Yelp
This new Japanese restaurant in SF has the prettiest sushi bowls and chunkiest sushi rolls I've ever seen. Their menu comprises of delicious appetizers and a selection of Kaisen dons and futomaki. Kaisen dons are raw fish in rice bowls that you can enjoy as sashimi as well as for you to make your own hand rolls and futomaki (fat sushi rolls). The fish were so fresh and melted in my mouth (especially the hugeeeee scallop omg it was so tenderrrrrr!!), the seasoned rice was perfect for making hand rolls with the raw fish pieces, and they were so delicious! The futomaki were like a fusion of Korean kimbap and Japanese sushi - mostly Japanese sushi with the raw fish but with pickled radish and perilla leaf, some even with tamago (egg). The chonky rolls were such a delight, the flavors and textures complemented in each roll each other very well. The vegan soba roll was so unique with the delicate soba noodles rolled perfectly, it was such a tender piece to bite into and very tasty with its fillings.

Yelp
The Roll is a new lunch spot opened by Chef Alex from Sushi Hakko! They have sushi donburis, futomaki rolls, and little bites and appetizers to share. We got the bara chirashi, futomaki roll, and two starters between 2 people. The futomaki was super beautiful and high-quality for the price ($18)! The bara chirashi was also delicious, albeit a little on the smaller side for the price. The kaisendon looked amazing when it came out for the next table, so we'll definitely have to be back to try it! The service was spectacular, and the chef himself came out to talk to us. The place itself was clean and upscale-looking, and it was relatively empty on a Saturday lunchtime around 1:30PM. This all made me want to try the omakase in the future at Sushi Hakko! I'd recommend the Roll also for an upscale lunch to people in the future.

Yelp
This is hands-down the BEST futomaki and Kaisen don spot in the Bay Area! If you are a sushi fanatic, then The Roll is a must-visit! Chef Alex emphasizes bringing out the incredible quality of each fish without relying on heavy sauces, ensuring every bite is pure, clean, and absolutely unforgettable . What we tried: - THE MORIAWASE Signature Kaisen Don: MUST TRY sashimi bowl with the freshest Tuna, Salmon, Amberjack, Scallop, Ama-Ebi (shrimp), Ikura, Unagi, Tobiko (caviar), Veggies 8/10 - SAKE DON: if you are a Salmon lover, this is for you! 7/10 - THE ROLL (Signature), CRAB, SALMON sushi rolls: all so delicious and fresh, each cube of fish is super juicy and thick , 0 artificial flavoring, just fresh fish and veggies 10/10 - All the side dishes: my favorite is the KINOKO NIMONO mushroom , with creamy sauce and truffle oil 10/10 ‼TIPS‼ The pop up location is at Sushi Hakko, on Union St.(address below), they will soon open the permanent location in Fi-Di, perfect for a quick and healthy lunch! Keep an eye out for their grand opening!

Yelp
This was one of the best meals I've had in SF! The popup in Sushi Hakko is running for the next couple weeks so definitely make a reservation if you are able to. The signature roll and signature kaisen don are generously sized and the seafood is so fresh. The plating and service is also amazing! Definitely try the roll cake dessert too, handmade by Rice and Flour.

Yelp
5 stars Came in at 11:45am on a Saturday and it was surprisingly empty (possibly due to it being OSL weekend). The service and food were so amazing! Everything was so fresh & flavorful, and the staff were very kind & attentive. Will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Really high quality and tasty food! The karaage had so much flavor compared to a lot I've tried. Not sure how they prepared it but seems like the chicken was marinated perfectly and then fried to perfection. The Unagi roll was also super tasty, nice mix of textures and flavors. I really want to try the crab roll next time! The Chirashi had some of the most amazing sushi grade fish and the presentation was beautiful. There was some fatty tuna (I think that's what type of fish it was?) that melted in your mouth. So good! For dessert we tried the "Early Morning" roll cake, which is a Green Tea flavored cake... How is this thing gluten free? I don't have any wheat allergy so it doesn't make much of a difference to me, but having a friend that does... I can't wait to have them try one of these cakes! It's so light and airy with the perfect amount of sweetness and flavors. I definitely need to try the Chocolate one next time... or maybe the Red Velvet one. Or both! I can't wait to try this place again soon!

Yelp
I did take out for my friends who just had a baby. They said it was delicious! Presentation was lovely and food was prepared quickly. Place looked super cute and I look forward to being back to dine in.

Yelp
Speaking of quality, everything was top-notch. And the presentation? Gorgeous! Plus, their roll cake is both pretty and delicious. The rolls were like little pieces of art--almost too pretty to eat, but definitely worth diving into.

Yelp
One of the best futomaki rolls I've ever had! I haven't found any other places in SF serving proper futomaki and kaisen don like this. The rolls were delicious and well balanced, a perfect combination of sushi and other ingredients. The kaisen don had fresh sashimi on top of seasoned rice. And red velvet roll cake was the perfect ending to the meal. Can't wait to visit again!!

Yelp
Finally I went to The Roll's soft opening and had a great experience! Their Signature rolls and Moriawase kaisen don were amazing. Sashimi was so fresh and high quality. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and high quality, and the rice and sushi combo was outstanding. All the roll cakes were not overly sweet, and the creams, both in and out, had a simple yet delicious flavor. My favorite dessert on the menu was the Sweet Velvet. I can't wait for their grand opening in July. I'm excited to revisit and try other items on the menu!

Yelp
The best futomaki & roll cake I've ever had. Especially for me, it was a fantastic meal from the kinoko nimono(mushroom) with the truffle oil& damn good cream sauce I ordered before the main dish, to the main dish with the perfect flavor of unagi roll and kaisendong. (Kaisendong-If you want to feel the softness of aging sashimi, I recommend it.) The rice roll cake I enjoyed for dessert was a soft and pleasant taste, which I wanted to order again!!

Yelp
I really recommend this restaurant! I'm trying futomaki for the first time in SF. The signature roll was very delicious and great balance of ingredients. Kaisen don also really good. The most important thing, freshness of the sushi, was so fresh and high quality. For dessert, hand made by rice flour. The combination of the perfectly not too sweet cream and the soft texture of the bread was amazing. The service, taste, and even the dessert were all perfect! I'm sure to visit again!

Yelp
Updating my review because it appears that the business cares about the quality of their product and customer experience -- and hopefully will correct whatever happened the day of my second visit. They sent me a private message offering a refund and to send me free dishes so that I can give them another chance. Hopefully customers will consistently get the delicious food I had on my first visit. The Signature Roll had a delicious combination of flavors and large pieces of fresh fish.

Yelp
Came by on Sunday after the Blue Angels show since the ratings were so high, even though there were so few ratings. Dined around 5pm and I'm surprised there wasn't anyone else! The interior is very bright, warm, clean, and welcoming. We ordered the signature Moriawase kaisen-don and the regular Tuna roll. Presentation-wise, both looked exactly as great as other photos uploaded here. We had the tuna roll first, and our server advised us to try it first without soy sauce since they season the rice with a special house vinegar. We agree after having it - no need for soy sauce. My mom (who is used to low sodium) said she might prefer even less seasoning but I liked it perfectly (plus I love seasoned rice). I haven't had futomaki style rolls before, so I wasn't sure how I'd like it but I really loved it! Surprisingly, I really liked the egg that was in the roll. It was seasoned/flavored nicely and it was all so good with the slight tang of the radish, cucumber crunch, and buttery tuna. All in all, very yummy and also nice texturally. Next was the Moriawase which was so good!! Loved having a medley of different fish and flavors. Everything was so fresh, flavorful, and soo soft. Definitely felt that the fish quality was great, me being someone who had a bad uni experience elsewhere - but here, the uni was so buttery with no bad aftertaste! I think this is the kind of uni that uni lovers rave about. For this, you get a few sheets of seaweed to make your own handrolls. Again, you get the seasoned rice here which was so good. If you're eating this alone I'd order extra seaweed to have enough for the portion to make handrolls (my mom ate half but didn't want seaweed), but it's yummy eating as is too. Not sure which dish we preferred more but I think getting both and sharing with another person is perfect. That way you get the mix of fish from the Moriawase, but the tuna roll gives you great cuts of fish and blends of ingredients. Lastly, service was kind and patient! We appreciated the service and also the care from the chefs. Super positive experience and hope to be back soon!!

I absolutely loved this place. The staff was super welcoming, friendly and present. The space was beautiful and clean, and most importantly the food was delicious. Yelp
Sorry I did not care for this sushi which I normally love. Also had the order delivered and there was no soy sauce or wasabi.

Yelp
Love this place. Tasty food, reasonable prices esp for SF. Great service as well. The karaage was a standout.

Yelp
The sushi was fresh and the service was excellent! Ordered the chirashi bowl which came with a variety of fresh fish and the biggest surprise was the kama nitsuke - it's a must try.
