The Room Bar and Lounge

I am 32, and look young, I have been here before, I order a drink and bartender didn't ask for my ID. Got my drink, sat down, another bartender comes to me and ask if I can leave the bar/lounge. I ask why and he said because I didn't provide my ID. I offered my ID/driver license, he takes it and comes back saying he thinks its a fake, and ask for me to leave the place. I ask if I could speak with manager/supervisor and he mentioned that manager/supervisor does not feel comfortable talking to me and ask for me to leave again, takes my drink from my hand. Went to the bar, got my card (still pending, if I got charged for the drink). My friend closed his tab and we left. I find it very confusing and very unprofessional that they resulted to asking me to leave before actually taking proper steps. At this point it felt more personal or a form of discrimination than anything. I do understand them taking precautions but why not ask for ID when I order my drink, if they were suspicious. I love this place but after their lack of communication and professionalism makes me question what kind of service they are providing.

The atmosphere of this gay bar is excellent! I have enjoyed both my trips now. With ample space, good drinks, and great entertainment, you're sure to always find someone who's fun to chat with. I haven't encountered a single customer here who's obnoxious or problematic, and the crowd has a good mix of all ages. The drag show nights are definitely top tier, and I'd encourage you make one of them if you go. Other reviewers have had mixed opinions on the indoor smoking. As a non-smoker, it absolutely bothers me and I do leave with the smell of smoke clinging to me. However, it's not nearly so bad as to be unbearable or problematic. I think everyone should give this bar a try, and it's always okay if it's not for you.

I feel like this bar help me bring my confidence up on how welcoming this place is!! I try to go on the drag nights and karaoke nights which are v entertaining. on today of this day I’m writing this Chris made me my now favorite drink which is a hurricane! Thank you Chris, Shawn, Natalie, the lovely drag queens for showing me love support and acceptance!

This place is so inviting and fun. I’m non binary and my girlfriend took us here. We had such a good time and will definitely be returning. I wish they would put together an actual drink menu though. The ambiance here is amazing. I felt safe and met so many cool people. I will definitely be returning. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because they allow indoor smoking and I am allergic to cigarette smoke. My lungs seize when it hits them. I see no issue with vaping as it doesn’t cause issues with folks with lung and breathing impairment. Side note: they offer complimentary female condoms in the restrooms and I thought that was really impressive and thoughtful!

Amazing decorations! My sister's seltzer came with a koozie!! I asked for my drink with lime and I got 3! I will definitely come back.

I came here for the first time because of a few specific performers I wanted to watch. The drinks were good, vibe was cool, bartender was awesome, and the drag show was top-notch. There were a lot of friendly people which pleasantly surprised me for it being a gay bar. Unfortunately, the cigarette smoking indoors proved itself a dealbreaker for me. It was overwhelming and I felt nauseous the entire next day. For that reason, I do not see myself returning. If they limited the smoking to an outdoor area it would be way better.

Was pretty cool. Bartender was attentive. Place was clean. However, it's still gross that you can smoke inside a bar.

Always a great go to if you don't want to drive to Montrose but the music is way too loud. You have to yell just to have a conversation and for some reason every 10 minutes the music continues to get louder. Yes, I'm talking to you DJ Sean. Tone it down on the music. It says "bar and lounge" not "bar and club" on the building. I'm a regular and it's an issues every time.

Service is attentive. Dancers and drag shows are entertaining. ‍ They allow smoking and vaping inside. If you smoke or vape, it's a LGBTQIA+ comfortable haven in an otherwise unremarkable strip center with a Tex Mex restaurant and a tattoo and piercing parlor. Open til 2am. You will not be bothered inside or outside, and that counts for something on the outskirts of Montgomery Co. If you don't smoke or vape, or are bothered by smoking and vaping in an enclosed space, the environment can be a little bit much. The ventilation can't handle the number of smoking patrons. ‍‍ I don't think this place has food - I didn't see anyone eating anything but each other so I can't speak to anything on the menu but the drinks. The people watching, the bar staff, the drinks, and the vibe are 5 stars. If you smoke, it's 5 stars. If you don't smoke, it's rough. Gonna be 1 to 2 stars. I'm giving it four stars overall because Houston air is pretty nasty anyway -- but as a non-smoker, the air is tough to deal with and I couldn't hang for more than a couple of hours before feeling nauseated by the heavy smoke in the air. But otherwise, a fun bar with fun people and a good vibe.

We had eaten dinner a few doors down. My friend was so excited to see that this bar was located in this part of town as opposed to driving down to the Montrose. I agreed to give it a try. We walked into a little alcove with adverts and information. We opened the door and took a few steps inside. There was a woman behind the bar who flashed a huge smile at us. There was a man at the bar drinking and he seemed quite happy. The music was great, not too loud, so it was easy to have a conversation. There were pool tables, which my friend was very excited about. He loves to shoot pool. We only made it in a few steps. The stench of cigarette smoke came as us like a thick curtain of ick. I started to cough and my eyes watered. My friend gagged. We turned to look at one another and kept turning to walk right back out. As we approached the car, my friend wondered how it was that a place could allow smoking inside. I reminded him that this bar is outside of the city limits of Houston, so they could get away with it. It's such a shame that having a nice, quaint, well decorated bar with great music, pool tables and as many smiles as happy people, but we won't be able to enjoy it. And let me be clear. I did not see anyone actively smoking when we walked in. The cigarette stench was from the fact that they allow smoking. It'll take a week of cleaning to get that odor out if they decide to ban it like the rest of the civilized world. Very disappointed. So much potential.

Went there on a whim last Sunday. Awful karaoke experience. Sound cutting out. 10 mins wait time between singers. Idk if the KJ was too far gone or what. But it was a sad experience when I enjoyed the low key atmosphere there

Omg Natalie is AMAZING! And makes the best Jell-O shots! You guys I'm from Los Angeles and this place is definitely a must visit ! Atmosphere is amazing and Natalie is so cute and a great bartender you guys if your reading this please check it out the pics that are on here are not what the newly renovated bar looks like ! Stopped in and felt right at home. Bartender Hudson made me feel special. Very attentive and dressed my corona better than ever! Def worth stopping in

This sounds like a very nice place to hang out, but I see Many complaints about the smoking, management is aware of this and has done nothing to make non smokers feel comfortable, a better exhaust ventilation system would be ideal for starters. until that happens they don't need my business.

I was honestly really disappointed, so take consideration I know a bartender can refuse the right to serve u liquor but she had no reason to refuse service this older woman from lastnight said she didn't feel comfortable with Serving me because of my ID which is an out state ID because I'm from Florida and that "supposedly" cause it is Memorial weekend which it isn't right now it was Wednesday night memorial is not until next week but I've been using my ID since I was 18 and does not expire until I'm 26! Mind u I've used My ID EVERYWHERE but hey there's a first time for everything but I definitely expected more and was let down, the drag queens was beautiful in there but the older bartender lady is a NO FOR me if u can't tell a real ID from a fake ID I DONT THINK u should bartend and the only reason im writing this is cause I've had rough week plus drove 20 mins and all I wanted was to get a drink after work and watch the show but you know there's always that one person but thank you for reading may u guys have a blessed day.

Fun place but I dont I think I will return, they added 40$ drinks to my tab because the guy who ordered them said I was buying them for him. I was never asked if that would be okay by my bartender and it was assumed so now I was left with a bigger tab to pay then what I ordered.

Hudson is freakin adorable. 10/10 recommend. Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Everything you'd want in a small town gay bar ((:

Smoking is allowed inside, but I did not notice the smoke problems other reviewers mentioned. Management may have fixed the issue. A great dive bar! I've been multiple times and the bartenders are wonderful, atmosphere is great, and the place is very clean. And you can't beat the drink prices!

I was told about this place by a friend and decided to check it. My partner and I just happened to go on a night that they were having a Drag Show. One word = FABULOUS!! The Drag Queens were stunning! My absolute favorite was Tatiana. The setting is very laid back and comfortable. I would steal their sofas if I could. Great choice in furniture!! The drinks are spectacular and the bartenders are even better. I have been to a few Bars/Lounges and was horrified by the bartending/serving staff but The Room Bar has an amazing staff!! I absolutely love this place and would recommend everyone to check it out at least once!!

Okay. Decent seating throughout this strip-shop located bar. Dj in the corner on a Wednesday night playing pretty good music most of the night. Awesome friendly bartender that replaced my drink when she gave me a whiskey sour on accident instead of a whiskey coke. The bathrooms themselves are clean and there's rubbers stocked for the taking if you need them. Also a random mustached stuffed banana lurking at all times. The only thing that ruined this place for me is all the goddamn smoke! There's only one working smoke zapper for the whole bar, and I'm saying this as a social smoker, it's just disgusting. I smelled like an ashtray til I got in the shower, both my friend and I had to leave to put drops in our eyes because they were stinging, and he, a non smoker, had to leave at one point to just breathe clean air for a while because he was starting to have trouble. All in all it would be great, but I won't be going back unless the ventilation in there makes a change.

This is a wonderful place to go for shows or just to go have a quiet drink in the afternoon. Its my home away from home. Great group of people work there. Go and check out the bartender Natalie she is awesome.

Great place, good beers and food but I didn't feel comfortable seeing the bar staffs do not use mask at all, just covering their neck for decoration. I'm. Not sure if i should come back. We need to be careful in this tough situation.... Be safe guys!

Great music, festive decorations and lighting, friendly bartender. But We left because the cigarette smoking was overwhelming . If they can fix that issue it's actually a good little spot.

Great bar! The DJ really knows his music, the bar staff are all friendly and fun to chat with, the drag shows are really personal and entertaining. This place is definitely a nice change of pace from the stale atmosphere of Montrose and redundancy of the the other Houston drag shows.

I went here for the first time the other night and I was quite impressed. Everyone was very friendly, we even got a free shot for it being our first time there! Living in Houston I am used to the bars there and this was a great change of pace, I like it much better than the other North Side gay bar. Only Negative is inside smoking :(

The atmosphere of this bar was foggy and thick. It was hard to breath with the thick layer of cigarette smoke and the drunken atmosphere. The clientele was decent, it matched the bar. As well as the bartenders, who were drunk just like the smokers in the bar. As far as gay bars goes it was the 80s stereo type; flamboyant and loud. As a gay couple I would NOT recommend this bar to anyone. Unless you want to leave smelling like an ashtray and a drunken slob.

I'm so disappointed. I called earlier to ask what time bingo starts. I was told it starts at 9 and was quoted a price and told what type of cards are used. We showed up to find there is no bingo anymore. We decided to stay for a drink anyway. $27 for two of the worst cosmos we've ever had. Couldn't even finish them. Shocked to learn what we were charged. Sad face.

This place is super clean and friendly, drinks are always strong and served by friendly staff. The DJ takes requests and gets to them in a timely manner. They have occasional drag shows, which are a ton of fun. They have 2 pool tables, an open area to dance in, and lounge style furniture to sit and chat. Very nice place!

So we looked it up on yelp. Over all atmosphere was good. Quite a bit of cig smoke. But had a seat at the bar and ordered. But my friend ordered at Apple Martini. Bartender made a big show of making sure he liked it by standing there while he tasted it both times. What we did not know was this show was because they were $12 each (which we found out when the bill arrived they rang it up as 6 drinks total 4-$6 charges for the apples and then 2-$4 charges for mine). She said it was because there was two shots of absolute in them. That's is extremely steep for a drink. We live in a tourist town and drinks this expensive come with a souvenir glass. We were clearly not in a tourist town. Then when we questioned her about it she let him know she made sure he liked it before. What!?!? So we wrote it off and paid the bill. He paid by cc and wrote 0 in the tip space ( we never tip on ccs because we know the barmaid does not always get all of it). She saw the 0 tip line and added a bitchy thank you as she walked away. We paid our tip in cash. At some point in this convo around the second drink she said that someone gave them a bad yelp review about the quality of the drink. The drink was good. It was just the way they overcharged in a super sneaky manner so that got them the bad review. So here is another one to add to the listing.

The best bar I have ever been to! Everyone is super friendly and the bartenders are amazing. $4 well drinks isn't bad at all! I have been to places that charge $5.95 and up for a crappy drink but here you can get a good one for only $4. Everyone seems to know everyone there too, and after my first night there, I knew I would be a regular. Great music playing at all times too. i would recommend this bar over a lot of other LGBT places.
