The 12 Best Restaurants In Greenwich - London - The Infatuation

"The Crown looks like just another high street pub from outside. But as well as easily having the best beer selection in Greenwich, a decent-sized garden, and heaps of old pub charm, it hits the right level of lively during the weekend (especially on vinyl night). Expect big crowds when the football’s on too. It also serves decent pizza. While Wandercrust’s pizza is arguably better, we reckon Flatboys slings its wood-fired pies from the better of the two pubs. The margherita is a must-try, but they also have some more unusual choices such as smoked chicken, avocado, and plant-based bacon." - jonathan hatchman

I had a lovely night at The Rose & Crown. I used to live in Stokey and it was lovely to be back, it felt like a home from home. I was in the junior deluxe room which was light and airy and very clean. The bathroom was really nice and I had everything I needed. Kate, the manager was so thoughtful and helpful. They knew I was due at a wedding at 1pm so let me check in significantly earlier to get ready and also catered especially for my allergies at breakfast. A great stay, thank you.

The bedroom was beautifully decorated to a high standard with all we needed and the housekeeping was undertaken daily. Continental Breakfast was part of the deal and was well presented. The staff were all very helpful and took time to chat with us. We ate in the bar one evening and there was a good choice of food which we enjoyed. |The only drawback was that our room was over the bar and sounds from below carried at night. We particularly noticed this on the Saturday night when the bar was busier. |Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we would stay there again.

Thank you Rose and Crown team for making our wedding day so special! everyone was so helpful, so kind, so fun to talk with, and everything was really perfect. Food was also amazing so thank you for organising that as well!! A particular thank you to Ian the manager and Jack. Service was quick and good, always friendly and smiling. And all of this while also attending to the other guests and regulars in the other half of the pub which we had pleasure meeting! A final thank you again to all the brilliant people working that day! Lots of love Alice & James

There are only 7 rooms in this delightful B and B (Pub/Inn) in Stoke Newington. I LOVE the place and want to always stay here when in London so writing this review works against me. It will be difficult I'm sure to get a reservation next time I want to stay! ||Everything about the place is charming: the manager, the bartenders, all support staff, the room, the terrace, the continental (and very delicious) breakfast), the location etc! The 73 bus takes you to West End/Oxford St/Chinatown/Covent Garden and you have a great tour of the city from the bus. ||The only thing you should know though is that the stairs to the room are steep so it is not fitting for those who prefer a place with an elevator. The staff will help with your suitcases though.

We had a lovely one night stay at the Rose & Crown midweek. Our room and bathroom were just perfect, nice & clean and we particularly appreciated the Rituals complimentary toiletries and fresh towels. The breakfast provided offered a good choice of continental fare, I particularly enjoyed the strawberry Granola presented in a Kilner jar. The Rose and Crown is perfectly situated on Stoke Newington church Street, an interesting and eclectic road of shops and eateries and the area manages to maintain a family village feel.

Kate & staff treated me, my coworkers, and our customers exceptionally well! The breakfast each morning was delicious, and the general ambiance of the place was delightful. The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. Thanks for a wonderful first time in London!

Google
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the guesthouse. The room was super spacious, had an AC, and I really enjoyed the „old England“ vibe of the place. The staff was beyond sweet, and the beer was fresh :) The area is super cute, perfect for strolling with plenty of small shops and cafes.

Yelp
Nice traditional english style pub, nothing special but good location near Clissold Park. Real wood fire burning (but the table in front of it absorbs all the warmth). Food ok, but Sunday Roast not worth it - very average, carrots a bit too hard, meat ok but not enough, basically a small amount of food & we were left still hungry! Too expensive to finish the meal still hungry. Good pub for drinks, not so much the food.

Yelp
So happy to have had this recommended to us! Sweet place. We got two rooms. Both perfect for a couple night stay. Wish we stayed longer. The bus ride into the center of town was easy. Loved the neighborhood. Great restaurants, pubs, and shops! The park next door was a perfect spot for a morning jog. Breakfast at the hotel here was lovely! Great service, and fabulous pub!

Yelp
On the corner of Stoke Newington Church Street and Albion Road next to the lovely St Mary's Church, the Rose and Crown has an attractive curved exterior. Its very dark from the outside, but the light is not too bad on the weekday. There is a cozy fire burning inside through the winter. Its not my favorite pub though, despite having one of the most attractive and old-fashioned facades of any in the area. The food is overpriced, and the range of beers is average. The people can be a bit cold compared to some others in the area. Its an ok place to go have a drink in, or try your wit at the quiz night on Tuesday.

Yelp
This is the closest me and my boyfriend have to a lovely local, cosy pub. The golden time to visit is on a Sunday afternoon for their spectacular roasts. Yes, it can get super busy but if there's a room you can sit at the bar and wait for your table to be ready. As other reviewers have noted, reserve a table for Sunday roast (something I haven't managed to do yet). My fave thing about this place is that it really brings together all sorts of people; yummy mummies and their massive prams, students, young couples, middle-aged men, the works!

Yelp
Simply charming. Our hosts were gracious, warm, helpful. The rooms are lovely and I should know as I stayed in 2 of them. Beds are comfy and pillows amazing. I have to get these pillows for home. No elevator but they will happily help you up the stairs with luggage so no problem there. There's a wonderful roof deck to sit out on a sunny day. We had a delicious lunch which they brought up to the deck for us. They even provided umbrellas as the sun got to be too much and there is no shade. We even came back after check out for lunch in the pub the next day, which really shows how good it was. A great find in the neighborhood where my son lives so I will for sure be back.

Yelp
I love this place. Visited my son several times over a couple of years while he was at University in London. The rooms are lovely and comfortable and the staff wonderful. After we had visited several times, the staff were like a second family. The pub is terrific and the Sunday Roast divine. I look forward to a return to something resembling the before times so we can stay there once aga

Yelp
Lovely pub. Food is tasty, service with a smile. Wood burning fireplace on cold nights ahhhh. Depending on the person pulling the pints that night you may get a ghetto treat over the speakers. Do not come late to Sunday roast. Buggies are bountiful! Actually best to reserve a table just in case.

Yelp
Nice pub in Stoke Newington, the usual fare of wooden chairs, tables, full bar, gets a local crowd, lots of young families, professionals, great Sunday roasts, reasonable priced menu etc. Lovely bar staff. They have recently opened up a 'boutique' type B&B upstairs above the pub. Rooms are really pretty, they also have roof top access for anyone staying there. The town hall is across the road so they get bookings for weddings. I think the prices are a little steep, around £80 for a single room, there is no A/C and it is zone 3. But still, good to know, especially if you live around the area and are looking for somewhere close by for your friends/family to stay.

Yelp
Its a pub!!! The staff was nice, and they had a few beers I haven't seen before. There's nothing verbose I can say about this place...if you're in Stoke Newington and want to go to a pub..you can go here.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a lovely old pub, well worth a visit if you like a bit of pub history (Old Truman's pub interior). Even if you don't there are 4 real ales available, although they are rather familiar choices (and the only one that wasn't..Fullers summer ale..tasted a little tired). Does accommodation, which surprisingly few pubs in London do these days. You can follow them on Twitter too.

Yelp
Straight out of one of Dickens' less lowlife scenes, The Rose and Crown is a sweet Victorianesque pub with wood walls, floor and furniture. On a winter's evening, the sight of it's many-paned windows glowing steamily through the chilly night is too tempting to pass by. Surprisingly big and often fairly quiet early in the week this is a lovely place to drink away an evening. The staff are friendly and uninvasive and there's a fun quiz on Tuesday nights.
google avatar

Yelp
This is by no means the best pub in the area- but on Tuesdays it is transformed into the most lively and sociable due to its weekly general knowledge quiz night that draws in local crowds. It is usually packed out so arrive there at least half an hour before it starts- there is always a fight for the last table. The best spot is by the fireplace for obvious reasons- it is right next to the bar, the fire and the quizmaster. The pub is very kind and allows you to bring in your own food or order in food from local restaurants- Il Bacio deliver to the pub.

Yelp
This large pub on the corner of Stoke Newington Church Street and Albion Road hosts one of Stoke Newington's favourite pub quizzes. Held here on a Tuesday night usually starting about 8.30pm, get here early to secure a seat and a table. Competition is fierce, with some pretty knowledgeable teams, so rope in a few expert friends, come up with a witty and topical team name and you stand a good chance of winning a cash prize, drinks or a T-shirt. There's also a good atmosphere in here if you're looking for somewhere to watch an England football match.

Yelp
Brilliant pub in the middle of church street, which feels like the top of church street (even though it isn't fact fans, church street continues all the way along clissold park turning into council housing and light industrial sites.) The pub is large, wooden, with a welcoming atmosphere. Does a regular quiz night of impossibly difficult questions. Good place to sit outside of on a summer evening and watch the bendy buses get stuck on the mini roundabout.

Yelp
I heart this place, I really do. It's an extra special lovely traditional old time boozer, right next to a lovely park. They serve a nice wide range of beers, including some real ales such as Thwaites and Adnams. We often come here on Sunday for the fantastic value roast lunches. Prices a great for the big servings of veg and meat on offer. Because the food is so good it can be rammed at the weekends, especially when games are on at Arsenal in the summer, but it's definitely worth the wait for a table. In the meantime, if it's summer, sit outside in the afternoon sun and enjoy life going by in this tucked away area of North London.

Yelp
Lovely pub at the Cissold Park end of Stoke Newington Church Street, and it doesn't seem to have changed much over the years. Judging by the photos and others' reviews the Rose & Crown is famous for its roasts. But it's actually a great place to pop in to any night of the week. Great atmosphere, good selection of beers and wines, and I've always been able to find a table. Sums up the perfect pub for me really. Just wish I lived closer, would definitely do the Sunday thing one day ...

Yelp
Unfortunately, the new chef is now the old chef and the new new chef doesn't have a clue. The delicate, wafer-thin battered calamari have been replaced by huge, thick chunks of breaded rubber. If Iceland did a 99p all-in-one sunday roast microwave dinner and you found one slightly passed it's sell-by date but still cooked it then forgot it was in the microwave for a few days, it would still be better than the one here.

Pamella T.

Yelp
Great cozy pub in Stokey. Descent selection of beers, Sunday roast made to perfection and a burger that is huge but so good you cannot leave without finishing it. Service comes with a welcoming smile. Gets very busy on Sundays so I would get there a bit early to secure a table.

Yelp
i really like the Rose & Crown. Usually i go there on Sundays for one of the brilliant sundays dinners on offer here - very cheap and plentiful, whilst still being delicious tasting - check th beef wellington if you want something really good - or else one of the several vegetarian options on offer if that's your bag. It's also a brilliant place for the family, or to go and watch sports on one of the big televisions on offer along with a pint. The staff are friendly and have a great sense of humour, as do the local drunks! i've been one on occasion, but they don't seem to mind too much!!

Qype User (macall…)

Yelp
A very nice pub. You can't miss it if you are coming up from town on the 73. If the bus has swung round the corner into Church Street you've missed the stop and will have to walk back! There are plenty of fairly well heeled Guardian reading types in Stoke Newington and these are probably the people that have ensured prosperity for the Rose and Crown over the years, coupled with red top reading regulars who are in every day and Arsenal supporters on match days. So it's a broad church, not all bearded social workers but you may well rub shoulders with one or two. Good beer. Good, unfussy, Sunday roast lunch seemingly made with real ingredients e.g. fresh veg and potatoes. The panelled interior of the pub is very traditional, and is either an original from I would guess the early 20th century or a very elaborate pastiche installed from the 80's onwards.

Yelp
Wow this is now my favourite pub in Stokey. Great service, lovely food and well kept ales. Keep up the good work.

Yelp
Great pub with good selection if beers, friendly staff and a cracking quiz on Tuesday evenings. Food is decent but best on Sundays for the roast.

Yelp
My wife and I are seasoned travellers around the world. The welcome you will get ,you will not forget,it is warm, caring, helpful and sincere. Our stay in a beautiful room was more than comfortable, breakfast had a varied and enjoyable choice. For lunch or dinner the ample bar area can cater for all tastes, staff are commited to a high quality of service. As a public house it's nice to watch the world go by or meet new friends, it's your choice.Access to inner London is not a problem from this venue. We recommend this hotel highly, our thanks go to Jola and her staff, well done. By the way were going back in 6 weeks, really looking forward to a loving welcome.

Yelp
This used to be my local when I only lived a minute down the road. Food has always been good and we ended up coming him near enough every night for the first week when we first moved to the area before we got the kitchen sorted. Over the year I think we tried everything off the menu and were never disappointed. They have a good weekly quiz night on but make sure you have a good team as it does get quite difficult and questions very obscure. We also ended up holding a mini birthday gathering there, managed to get a small area for 25 people and they really looked after us all night and we ended staying to the early hours. (Visit - 02/06/2014 Dinner)

Qype User (Foodie…)

Yelp
Best pub on Church Street. Serves Adnams Broadside, which always gets me broadside. Bustling and lively when packed, and peaceful hang out earlier in the evening. Great place, which has kept the feel of a proper old boozer intact.

Anon A.

Yelp
Wine & beer was ok, Sunday roast quite tasty. But terribly overcrowded (lots of prams!), so much so the staff sat a big group of people right in front of the toilets! Apparently the people at this table been told to direct anyone trying to get past to the toilets on the other side of the bar - which was just a single wc for ladies! Not really ideal in a busy pub; when you've spent a fair amount on lunch & drinks, access to adequate loos is surely not too much to ask. Not planning to return.
