Yelp
Our neighbor and her daughter invited us to this restaurant on 3/25. It's a nice place and the food was good. The bathrooms are clean, nicely tiled with cool glass sinks and a trough faucet I found to be a welcome change from the usual standard plumbing one finds in restaurant bathrooms. The decor, at least what there is of it, is sparse. I guess the owner just likes painted walls, simple window trim, a few framed posters and basic wood tables and chairs and wasn't really trying to re-create Italy in her dining rooms. There's a good amount of seating and plenty of room between tables. Based on my experience I would return but with the hope of not getting the same server, an elderly lady with a bit of an attitude who should consider what comments she makes to customers.
I'm going to list a few things I did NOT like, in the hope that the owner will read this review and use it to make improvements.
First, we were sat in the main dining area, and there was white paper all over the floor around a large table adjacent to us: straw wrappers, pieces of napkin, etc, and the entire time we were there, NO ONE attempted to pick it up. The staff just walked over it like it wasn't even there.
I really do not like to eat my dinner while I have to stare at garbage on the floor. This could have been picked up in 3 seconds by anyone who worked there. Even the owner, an elderly lady dressed in red when we were there, acted like it didn't exist. PLEASE, you own a restaurant. People eat there. The floor should be kept clean. There should not be garbage on the floor when people are eating.
Second, when someone orders the all-you-can-eat fish and you're the server, and you ask the customer if he/she would like more fish and the customer replies, yes, 4 pieces, DO NOT ASK THE CUSTOMER: OK, YOU CAN EAT 4 PIECES? It is not the server's place to ask the customer if he/she can eat the number of pieces he/she requested. It's the server's job to just bring the customer what he/she asked for and that is it. Just for doing this, I shaved money off the tip. I don't appreciate being treated like a 5-year-old when I am an adult and paying for the check. Watch yourselves, servers. Always be kind and treat people with respect.
Third, there was a mishap with my baked potato that was actually kind of comical. The server brought sour cream and what I thought was butter but what was really tartar sauce for the fish. Without my glasses on, it looked like butter so I put it on my baked potato. Imagine my surprise. The owner did bring me another potato but did point out snidely that it was clear that it was tartar sauce because of some sort of specks in it. Ummm...NOT WITHOUT MY
GLASSES ON, IT ISN'T. IT LOOKS LIKE BUTTER. But I thank the owner for her unnecessary snide comment. Maybe someday you'll make an innocent mistake and someone will respond to you in a similar manner.
Lastly, service was OK, but often our server would disappear and we had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for her to get back to us for drink refills, napkins, even the check.
It was semi-busy but not so busy that we had to wait as long as we did. I think if we had had another server, we would have seen her more -- and sooner.
This restaurant has been around for a long time. Overall, I think it's a very decent place.
I would go back but I think there is definitely room for improvement and they are all simple things. I would rate it 3.5 but I'll round up to 4 because we ordered the butterscotch pie to go and it was delicious.
