The Best Restaurants and Bars in Chattanooga, Tennessee | Eater Nashville

"At this Riverview staple, find excellent cocktails and modern versions of Southern cookout classics like pulled chicken sandwiches and fried catfish and grits. Set in a 1920s cottage, the Rosecomb’s vibe is intimate and homey, with walls and surfaces dotted with antique, quirky touches. Outside, it feels more like a friend’s summer backyard party than a restaurant, in a good way. The restaurant is 21-plus, even during Sunday brunch." - Eater Staff

Went for drinks, had the orange wine which we loved and a dessert. The staff were super nice. We had an issue with our desert at first, and felt too awkward to mention it for a while to the first waitress who was taking great care of us (didn’t want her to feel bad), then we mentioned eventually to another member of staff who came up to us, and the issue was sorted super quickly. Both staff members were really nice and helpful and the atmosphere was great. The garden is beautiful and the house stunning. Loved it 😊

This place is always wonderful. Gluten free options always available and the food is always killer. They even freed a cicada back outside safely. But regardless of that the staff is always the best and I would recommend The rose comb to everyone.

The pimiento cheese is a great starter. The pulled chicken sandwich is delicious too, the bread is fluffy and the purple cabbage makes it fresh. The grilled cheese is not bad, but not my favorite. We got 3 cocktails, one starter, and two main dishes, and we paid $100.

If I were a local, I'm pretty sure The Rosecomb would a regular go-to. We were visiting Chattanooga (from St. Louis) to celebrate our wedding anniversary and visited The Rosecomb for brunch. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious. The outdoor garden is a beautiful place to soak in the morning sunshine. I think that what impressed me the most, though, was the warmth and kindness of the staff. You can tell that they genuinely enjoy their work and strive to provide a memorable experience from the moment you arrive. We ordered the Breakfast Tacos and Classic Plate. If you get the potatoes - do church 'em up.

This place was so cool! The drinks were picture worthy and tasty and the happy hour food was delicious and an insane deal! Service was also on point!

This is the first place we stopped when we got into town, before even checking into our hotel, and we ended up going back the next day because we liked it so well. The atmosphere is so cute and charming, inside and out, with a cute little garden area, well equipped with fans for cooling. The food menu is super limited but what we had was very good, which was the corn bread and the smashed potatoes. Bartender Dave was very attentive, but could work on being a bit more warm and smiling :o). The stand our bartender/server was Chloe. She was so warm and bubbly. Just adorable. She was never our direct server but recognized us when we came in again the next day, and went above and beyond to make room for us on the patio, after we had had our first cocktail with Dave.

We had such a nice time here! Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. My wife and I sat down to have some drinks and read our books. It’s the perfect atmosphere for a bite to eat or a place to cozy up and dive into a new novel. The food and drinks were delicious.

I've been here a couple of times and have always had an amazing experience! The rosè on the menu is SO GOOD, and I've enjoyed every cocktail I've had here. We enjoyed the burger, pimento cheese, and broken potatoes (big portion, BTW)! Such a nice vibe with all the decor and unique style. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Our fun getaway to Chattanooga had gone to the dogs: late start, no plan for dinner, had to check in before eating, we were hungry and arriving at 8... oh *!#%%**!!! What??!!! Chattanooga is on EASTERN time????!!!! ... arriving at 9pm. The trip was spiraling into the ground. Wildly flailing we picked a name from a previous hastily researched list of good places to get food and drink and through the divine intervention of our guardian angels we came up with Rosecomb. At first we weren't sure we had the right place, it's in a refurbished house in a residential area. You literally walk in the front door... and into a groovy mellow bar full of groovy mellow young persons who waft you off to a table in the garden where there is truly excellent food and astoundingly good drinks. We got a burger (burger right? Who cares? Whoa was it a show stopping burger!) and a grilled cheese made with the "sexy cheese of the month" which was some French sounding thing (Compte) so we just had to have it and it was the right choice. The drinks were all perfectly executed, not just the house drinks, but the bespoke drinks we ordered later. Example: the amazing house drink we got, the Marsha Johnson was an incredibly creative and delicious riff off of a French 75 with peaches and Serrano peppers, historical information on the back of the drinks card btw (sounds tricky right? Not for the bartenders there). Then a perfectly executed Chemist gin martini. The servers were friendly and knew their stuff. The atmosphere relaxing and inviting. Our trip was saved. So thank you to all the hard working people at Rosecomb for doing that thing that good hosts , servers, cooks, and bartenders do, which is giving complete strangers a great experience that can literally change an evening or a trip for the better. Definitely a place to try out.

Yelp
We saw a utube video on how good the drinks were. The wife had the rabbit rush drink. It was Smokey and you tasted the ginger honey. We also had the cauliflower appetizer also great. We are glad we took a break from the duck tours and sat in the beautiful courtyard. Next time I'm in town we'll be here for the neat drinks.

Yelp
Love this little bar! The garden is a relaxed setting and servers were so accommodating with finding a shady spot and extra tables for our party. Innovative and seasonal cocktails and delicious food. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Excellent drinks, food, service, dining area. It's one of the first places I take guests visiting Chattanooga.

Yelp
Great vibes and a nice place to get drinks with friends. I got the grilled cheese and it was pretty good

Yelp
This is our go to spot for a date night or if we want to go out for drinks. The house turned restaurant is always a winning idea for me, but Rosecomb does it well with the dark, ornate decoration and cozy settee seating. It is a dimly lit place, but it adds to the ambiance. The wait staff are always lovely and and we haven't had a miss on the menu (broken potatoes are always a favorite). It's a popular spot, you can almost always get a seat at the bar, at the very least, but worth making a reservation just in case.

Yelp
When I tell you that all of our new Chattanooga friends told us we must go to Rosecomb, I'm not kidding...everyone loves this place, and this weekend, we were finally able to find out why! A charming little white house with black accents on the corner of Hanover & Barton Ave, Rosecomb is a gem. The interior feels like walking into your super hip aunt's cottage and the exterior is a beautiful yard with flowers sprouting around all edges. While the ambiance is lovely enough to get you here, the perfectly balanced cocktails and beautifully plated eats is what'll keep you coming back. I ordered the following and loved every single sip + bite: * Desert Solitaire cocktail (my fav) * Pulled Chicken Sandwich (sooo good) * Summer Melon (unique and refreshing!) * Broken Potatoes (a must) * Palm Suite cocktail (delish!) * The perfect Friday night sunset

Yelp
As a local, hands down a top favorite. Absolutely LOVE the outdoor garden seating areas! Call ahead to reserve the corner booth inside for fun, friend gatherings!!!

Yelp
Enjoyed the ambience while sitting at the bar having cocktails which included a dirty martini. It seems dirty martinis are getting smaller and smaller except at Joe's Cafe in Santa Barbara.

Yelp
Rosecomb is beautifully decorated and has a well curated menu and drinks. We had so much fun sharing everyone's delicious food and taking in the cozy vibes. I'd heard that this was more of a drinks and apps place than a full meal restaurant, but I tend to disagree. While the menu isn't huge, there is definitely something for everyone, and you will leave full and satisfied. Service was impeccable. I will definitely be back. (And make a reservation next time)

Yelp
One of my fav restaurants in town. I love that their menu rotates with the seasons and they use local businesses like Neidlov's. Local supporting local the patio is incredible. The service is always attentive, and their recommendations always top notch.

Yelp
Food matched the charm and ambiance of a place like this. Service was very friendly and reliable. The mock-tails were fabulous. Extremely well done! The deviled eggs were the best choice by far and as previously recommended in other reviews, the potatoes did not disappoint! The ambiance of the place was very pleasant. I love the bold colors, the dim lighting and intimate atmosphere. One of our favorite visits here in Chattanooga!

Yelp
Beautifully done, Rosecomb is your ace in the hole. I don't drink alcohol, but Rocecomb provides fine non-alcoholic drinks for me.

Yelp
Yes. Go. Make reservations though. It's pricey but so so worth it. Have the Brussel sprouts and the potatoes ! Sit at the bar for a few moments too and meet some locals! My favorite thing about the Rosecomb is the ambience. Definitely a spot I will come to time and time again. Bring your friends!!!

Yelp
The Rosecomb is my spot! I have been here during the day, nighttime, and for brunch! It is all incredible! My personal favorite are their potatoes. I dream about them! I also just love anytime I get to sit out in the garden. The service is always quick and everyone there is very kind. The bar itself is stunning and has one of the best atmospheres in the area. It feels classy, but also comfortable.

Yelp
When visiting family in November, I was treated to a lovely cocktail in the Rosecomb outdoors. It's peaceful with planters of various flowers along the edges, mostly smaller tables spread out, and strings of small lights strung above right below the treetops. Rosecomb is a nice neighborhood spot for catching up with people and enjoying a good cocktail for sure. The staff come across just as nice and easygoing too. Will be sure to check out their food menu next time.

Yelp
Very cute older home turned into a bar. It's got a great backyard with seating. The inside has a bar lining one side of the house. There are two other rooms where food is served. We went to the bar and had wonderful attentive service. Many cocktails to choose from. Bartender extremely nice and friendly. Limited wine selection but definitely something for most. I'm not crazy about the cut fruit and garnishes on the bar where everyone can touch or sneeze on them. It does look and smell nice......that's why I give it 4 stars. Great neighborhood place and I will be back. I just won't get a fruit garnish.

Yelp
This spot has been open for about a year and half and I've only ever been there at night for drinks. I finally decided to try their food and ended up going for Sunday brunch! I made a reservation for garden seating and I'm glad I did because this place filled up fast. We started with coffee and a cold brew which were both good. My mom got the brunch burger which was huge and delicious! I got the breakfast tacos which had chorizo, pickled onions, cilantro and creama and they were absolutely delicious! This spot is so cute and trendy, and while the inside is also gorgeous I highly recommend sitting in their beautiful garden while the weather is still nice. Definitely a 10/10 brunch spot!

Yelp
Very nice ambiance, the garden was beautifully decorated, the service was really great, our waiter was attentive with us, and the food was absolutely phenomenal.

Yelp
The deviled eggs are worth coming here all by themselves. Best ever. We also had the cornbread which was good. It was savory which is not how I'm used to but very good. Had the pimento cheese. They were out of gf bread so they served it with the cornbread which is gluten free. I have to give them full points for making the effort but I think it would have gone better with the gf bread. That said, they comp'd us that dish which was generous. We also had the grilled cheese which was excellent. Loved it especially with the aioli. The sweetness of the caramelized onions and fig jam in the grilled cheese was made even better with the sharp mustard in the aioli. Upon reading the reviews before we got here, everyone said "try the broken potatoes" so we did. They're great. I think what makes them special is the aioli. It hints at a hot potato salad in my mind with that aioli. I asked for more aioli because I felt it needed it. The non-alcoholic drinks were really special and unique. We loved ours. The dessert being offered was panna cotta with fruit compote. Not really our thing so hubs and I skipped that. They'd have had us with a creme brûlée though. Hint hint. We loved the ambiance. Hard to describe... it's a 100+ year old house and the inside is done with rich, moody, timeless colors that just work. My tips if you're going to eat here: 1) make reservations 2) eat outside in the garden - it'll be quieter 3) have the deviled eggs even if you eat nothing else.

Yelp
I love the vibe of this place! Make sure you make a reservation. It's 21 and up only at all times, Even brunch. I love that. We went for brunch. We had a bit to drink the night before so I want freaking the drink menu this morning. However the drink menu looks great and I can't wait to return and try some cocktails. The food was absolutely perfect. I got the bacon egg and cheese sandwich and it hit the spot. The niedlov bread was a perfect touch. My husband got the breakfast plate and he ate every single bite of it. I'm stuffed but I could have kept eating it was so delicious.

Yelp
A million yes' to this place--as good as the hype!!! Spent a solo dinner here for one night in town and it's perfection (yelp never lies)--best deviled eggs I've ever had (try them and then fight me). Catfish was sorcery--SO crispy outside and tender inside (what the? Is this what it's supposed to taste like?! Memaw never got the memo!)--potatoes are a dream. Desert solitaire drink is bonkers. Worth a cross country trip!!!

Yelp
Possibly one of the cutest spots I've ever been to, Rosecomb is a stylish and sophisticated oasis hidden in a small residential cottage on a quiet street on Chattanooga's north side. We stopped in for an afternoon cocktail and, after taking in this spot's exquisite decor and impressive menu, were immediately disappointed that he hadn't prioritized this spot for our brunch du jour. While ordering from their intimate bar, we admired the Southern charm and modern elegance spread out among the several small dining rooms. The aesthetic carried out to the lush back patio where we enjoyed our cocktails- a hefty pour of grapefruit mimosa for her and a potent espresso martini for me. It was a picture perfect scene, enjoying a cool drink in the garden. Like Grandma's house, but way cooler.

Yelp
Vibes were great. Nice place to go around dusk, food and drinks were great. Desert drink was delicious. Book a reservation in case it gets busy!

Yelp
Incredible experience. The breakfast tacos were amazing. The Irish coffee... she actually mixed it prior to pouring in the coffee. The best I've ever had. Beautiful space. Service equals the food and ambiance.

Yelp
Went there for my first time since moving back to Chattanooga. Recommend by a friend. The food, service and ambiance was off the charts. Highly recommend Rosecomb.

Mike S.

Yelp
Moldy taste in the water. Waitress brought another bottle out and the same issue! She responded "we try to clean the bottles once a week". Food is mediocre at best. Would not recommend.

Yelp
I visited Rosecomb with a couple of friends for Sunday brunch. We didn't realize reservations were highly recommended but luckily found a few seats at the bar that had just opened up. The brunch menu was small but everything sounded delicious! I had the breakfast plate w/sourdough toast and potatoes (the potatoes are incredible!!) and it was all perfectly prepared! My friend had the bagel sandwich and said it was amazing. They have a list of tasty crafted cocktails on the menu and we tried several. The Betty spritzer and Frankie Goes to Hollywood were two of our favorites. The atmosphere was fantastic! It is eclectic and hip. A small cozy spot with a spacious beautiful garden holding many outdoor tables that was not open due to cold weather but I can't wait to come back in the spring and sit outside amongst the flowers and hanging lights! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
A cute, charming restaurant! Their food option is not extensive, but every item i have tasted so far has tasted nothing short of amazing. I like that few items on their menu are seasonal, which makes for a nice change each time. This is also a cozy place to grab great drinks after dinner since its open till 1 AM on weekends.

Yelp
The whole experience was "fine." We were sat next to the fireplace, so close that I conked my head on it when I sat up straight. We tried the cornbread which is the worse we've ever had - it didn't have any flavor, just grit. In the South?!? Tragic. The deviled eggs and pimento cheese were fine. The autumn salad was mostly beets w a couple Brussel sprouts. And the chicken sandwich again, was fine. Nothing was impressive. The servers were nice enough, but not really friendly. Just overall underwhelming compared to the reviews and hype online. With so many choices in town, I'd pick another unless you're coming for the cocktails.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Always the best service and the food/drinks are always delicious. Smaller setting for sure, but that's what makes it special.

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Sat at the bar, had the catfish, grits and greens. One of the finest meals I've ever had.

Yelp
Had brunch here last Sunday. It was lovely. The decor of a refurbished 1920s style house was brilliant. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend reservations here. Highly recommend, will be back!

W David B.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in for late afternoon snack. Their draft beer selection is great. We had cornbread and smashed potatoes. The food was amazing, and our bartender/server could not have been nicer. Rosecomb is definitely on our list for at least monthly stops. I cannot recommend any higher.

Christine A.

Yelp
Really loved this neighborhood bar. I would make reservations as they do get very busy. Alway changing the menu up so it's a different experience nearly every time! We had a group of 4 and 2 more friends ran into us there and joined us. They were very accommodating to the change. It's a small place so I'm sure it wasn't easy. Only wish it was open when we'd lived up the street
