THE ROYAL CAKERY

I worked directly with Shirelle Royal to create my absolutely beautiful wedding and groom cakes. I cannot express how amazed we all were with the detail and quality of each cake. And they were not only stunning but so delicious!

We loved working with Shirelle for our wedding cake. She's a professional that's been in this business for a long time, but so friendly to work with that she almost feels like family. She brought plenty of options to our tasting, and offered to make a couple different filled tiers when we couldn't decide on one. We ended up doing almond cake with alternating layers of raspberry and dulce le leche filling and red velvet for the grooms cake. Both were delicious!

I’m from Florida and needed a cake made for my dads birthday. The Royal Cakery did an amazing job! The delivery was on time, the cake was excellent, and customer service was exceptional as well. 10/10 Thank you again!

With only a week to spare , I was tasked with finding a cake for my brother’s small intimate wedding reception. We showed up with just a photo and Royal Bakery worked their magic. In fact, their version was just as beautiful . The bride and groom as well as the guest were all pleased . More importantly , it tasted as good as it looked . Based on previous reviews and referrals , We absolutely trusted that you all would deliver even without laying eyes on the cake before the reception .. We now have a new bakery !!! Special thank you to Royal Bakery and the entire staff !!

It has been my great honor to have been the King of Sparta this past Carnival season. Part of my obligation as King is to throw a party. We had the party at Messina’s at the Terminal at the Lakefront Airport and what a wonderful party it was! Sherrill and her the staff at the Royal Cakery did a fantastic job on the cake from the tasting to delivery and setup. We had a 4 tier cake all different flavors and icing. The cake was seamless and beautiful. Sherrill made sure the decorations on the cake was everything I wished for and what a fantastic job she did, not only with the taste, but in how she decorated the cake. It was truly a masterpiece. Everyone raved about the flavors of those delicious tiers. It was truly one of the best cakes I have ever tried. The choice of flavors was so difficult because at the tasting they gave us so many different choices the decision was difficult to settle on just four. It was sort of sad in a way there was virtually no cake left to take home.

Royal Cakery, from our tasting to our wedding day, were an absolute joy to work with. They treated us like family and created and delivered the most gorgeous cake. The creativity and variety of flavors and fillings to choose from were decadent - and this is coming from someone who isn't even a big cake person to begin with!! I still dream about it, and can't wait for the next opportunity to order another cake from them (or just reorder our same flavors to walk down memory lane!) 10/10 recommend!!!

I used Royal Cakery for both my wedding cake and the Groom's cake and I couldn't have been happier! We tasted cake from several local bakeries, but none of them compared to Royal. One bite was all it took, we knew instantly they were going to be our vendor of choice. At our initial tasting, they did not have our appointment written down and were conducting a tasting for another couple at the time, but they squeezed us in and made time for us. Because we were short on time, they took quick notes and set up another appointment for me to order the cakes. They worked with me and created exactly what I wanted. They even changed the Reece's logo to my husband's last name to make the Groom's cake even more personal. The cakes tasted exactly how they tasted during our initial tasting! We couldn't have been happier. Highly recommend!

We had a few criteria for our wedding cake. We wanted a dairy-free groom's cake, a unique looking cake that didn't rely on fondant, and delivery on a saturday. We originally signed up for a tasting simply because we wanted to do one, and none of the other bakeries, including the one we had already put a deposit down on, were willing to do a tasting at a time that worked with our schedule. However, after trying their cakes, and being impressed by the countless wonderful options they had available, we ended up losing the deposit on the other bakery and going with Royal. We were overjoyed, they could do everything we asked them for. After so much stress with the other bakeries, I kept waiting for something to go wrong, but everything was perfect. Both cakes were beautiful and delicious, with many of our guests saying it was the best wedding cake they had ever had.

Nostalgia Ultra! There was a time before the 99 and the 2000 and as that song was blared throughout the city of New Orleans, I find myself reminiscing, not on That Thang being backed up but on whenever I eat chocolate I'm subconsciously chasing the high this place had given me. I'm finding it hard not to talk about my childhood while I write this post. so I'll save that for the blog (fooddripp.com) a shameless plug. You will find the best representation of New Orleans' soul pre-Katrina right here in the heart of New Orleans East. My father and I called in a custom order of some of the best brownies ever. I pray I get to taste these again because for whatever reason an order of 12 plus a full-size sampler wasn't enough. This place holds a special place in my heart and I will always support this New Orleans, local business. ProTip: If you're a chocoholic, ask them about their "doberge cake" they even made me a chocolate doberge cake for my birthday one year, and my life has never been the same.

We went with them for our wedding cake. Flavors were great and right but the cake wasn't even supposed to be white or heavily iced. It look NOTHING like the photo references discussed or sent. Also, it was an hour late to the venue during which we were unable to contact anyone via email or phone. For the price paid, which was about double from other local bakeries, we expected it to be correct. I reached out a few days after the wedding and still, 7 months later have not heard hide nor hair from anyone at the bakery.

I don't even know where to begin, but let me just say YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. This small black owned bakery is one of the best in the city. Consistency is key, and they have exceeded this expectation. They made my wedding cake over 7 years ago and I have been a loyal supporter ever since. I recently needed a last minute bday cake for my hubby and they were able to accommodate my request with no issue. The cake was beautiful, fresh, moist and delicious.

The quality of the cake was outstanding, guest asked for a second slice and some took a piece home. The care and professionalism by the owner and her staff was impressive. Our themed cake was detailed , it's obvious they love what they do. Thank you for making our party a success.

This bakery has one of the BEST tasting cakes I've ever had!!! Stellar customer service and response time from start to finish. The guests raved about how fabulous the design was and how great the cake tasted. Royal Cakery knocked it out the park with this one and helped to make my daughter's baby shower a great success. I'm so glad to have chosen such a great establishment!. Thank you, Royal Cakery for everything!

The Pros: Their cakes taste great. I chose them based on my sister's recommendation that they are the best in Nola. The designs pay close attention to detail and are creative. Pricing is reasonable comparable to other cake spots I had to call to get a quote. Cons: They can kind of make you feel like they aren't that interested in your service. There were times where I felt more like a burden than a customer and that was at the first meeting. They are very popular and availability is limited. I scheduled about 3 months before the wedding and they already had other cakes to bake for that day. I would use them again. They were very accommodating during the cake tasting and worked with my budget.

There cakes were good twenty years ago but they are not very desirable now. The frosting is bland and the bakery needs a little work in appearance. I'd love to support them but their cakes are not as great. I ordered an almond cake and could not taste any almond flavor at all and it was tasteless. I'm sorry, but this is a thumbs down.

Everything was great with them! It was easy to schedule a consultation. You will try a lot of cake during it but it is helpful because they will help you mix & match the things you like. We ended up with a three tier wedding cake with beautiful frosting in our wedding colors. We ended up with more cake than we needed due to no shows but everyone loved the cake! Lots of our guests admitted to having 2-4 slices. It was that good. We can't wait for our anniversary when we get to have our top tier! Definitely recommend them for the ease of communication and truly delicious cakes that aren't dry or taste like pure sugar.

I was truly happy with my friend's sheet cake! It was not only beautifully decorated, but extremely fresh and delicious. This was a cake for his retirement from working 30 years! The buttercream icing was so tasty. It had to have been the best icing that I've ever tasted.

These are interesting times for any special occasion, but Mrs. Royal literally added a little sparkle to my Birthday. I got a key lime cake with cream cheese icing and strawberry filling. All of my friends were jealous they could only get a virtual slice. They were justified because it was delicious! The cake was moist and the icing was rich.

When reading reviews you should look at the very bottom as well, because somehow all their "bad reviews" are located there and I'm sure mine will be added soon enough. When my fiancé and I came in for our cake tasting appointment it was obvious there was a miscommunication between the employees about who booked our cake tasting, and it was most certainly taken out on us. Which they later apologized for and redeemed themselves. Which I should have known better because that was "red flag number one", but I brushed it aside like we all do. The only reason I gave them "two stars" is because their cakes are delicious, which is very sad because their employees and customer service are unprofessional and rude. When you email the Royal Cakery for any of your cake needs, it sends it to one email, and any employee can reply. Which later creates so much confusion with so many people replying, and a lot of "I don't know who I talked to." Trust me, it's a complete mess. We were going back and forth in pricing and sending pictures like the normal wedding cake process goes, and we were about to send the contract when one morning I get an email (keep in mind this was all in an email). "Another bride came in and booked a huge order on your same date, sorry we won't be able to make your cakes. Best wishes." I kid you not, ALL IN AN EMAIL. Of course I called and they had the nerve to tell me "Mam this is the wedding industry, first come, first served." After I already paid for a cake tasting, which is part of the down payment to secure your date. Please, please do yourself a favor and do not waste your time and money on service like this, especially from "Royal Cakery." This is a beautiful time and you are already spending so much money, spend it on the good ones. My fiancé and I had another cake tasting today and it was absolutely amazing, the cake and customer service was everything I hoped it would be and should be. I am proud to say Gambino's Bakery will be doing our wedding cakes. Ask for Kevin, he is great!

What an awesome experience! I just had my tasting for my wedding cake and I couldn't be more pleased with the professionalism and warmness with which my entire party was met. The cake was amazing (I took a box of my samples home!) and they really went out of their way to make sure I got the most for our money. We're planning from out of town and this was definitely worth the drive in. We all left with huge smiles on our face. I know they will help to make my big day perfect! -- Post-wedding update: The cakes were seriously perfect! Both the grooms cake and wedding cake were even better than we had imagined, and our guests still talk about how delicious it was. I can't wait for our anniversary to order another cake just for us! :)

Great cake experience . I booked RC for my 10/15/16 wedding cake and I couldn't have made a better choice. Always fresh and tasting great. Best local cake vendor in New Orleans.

My mother paid $1700 for her wedding cake back in 2013. While the cake was pleasant, not only was the owner's customer service terrible, but the cake had the wrong filling. We did not complain because we were caught up in a hectic wedding week. However, I am finally getting around to writing a review. The owner (if it is the same one from '13) needs a reality check; someone needs to tell her that she is running a supposedly professional business and should act as such. Also, that is entirely unacceptable to mistake the filling of a cake. After going to other weddings, we've concluded that for that service and mistake, that we were robbed. That place needs to rediscover what it means to be professional as well as how to properly handle orders. Many of these orders are weddings aka one of the biggest days for most people!!!!!

I haven't actually received my cake yet but was referred to Royal Cakery from a friend. So far, I have only had one phone conversation and the rest of the details of our son's Pokemon cake has been discussed via emails over the course of a few days. I have been extremely pleased with the customer service I have received thus far. Shirelle has been quick to respond to all my questions even though our cake isn't one of their big money makers like a wedding cake. I have tasted their white almond cake at a friend's birthday party and knew this was the cakery for our family. Not only was her daughter's 3 tier cake beautiful decorated and super impressive it was extremely moist, tender and tasty. I'll update my review once we've received our son's Pokemon cake. I can't wait to see it and know they won't disappoint!

WORD OF WARNING TO BRIDES LOOKING FOR A CAKE!! If you have more than $1200 to spend on a wedding cake for 250 people, please disregard and drive out to New Orleans East....I'm sure you'll find exactly what you're looking for. Okay..now that the normal brides-to-be on a budget are still with me...do NOT waste your time here. Sure their cakes are beautiful, sure they'll taste alright, but you will leave heartbroken and in tears if you make this your first stop...and your fiance will be pissed that he just drove all the way out there for nothing. So...here's how it goes. "Oh sure honey we can make any cake you want" ...then they bring out slices of cake and glasses of milk. It's good....but I thought that Haydels was way better (and I found out 1/4 of the price). Then they spend an hour designing your cake....then, comes the part when you ask "so...how much is this?" They give you this astronomically huge number (mine was $1200) and you start thinking "Oh my goodness...I'll never be able to afford a cake! Is this how much they all are???" And you start telling them you're on a budget and asking how to cut corners...they pretty much tell you its impossible. Haydel's did a much better job and are accomodating to people of all pocketbook sizes. So if your daddy warbucks isn't footing the bill, and if you're not trying to impress your friends with the place you got your cake from...do not even think about going here. Seriously...I cried for an hour...I wish someone had warned me.

If you want a fresh, delicious and beautiful cake--this is the place for you!! They take a complete interest in each and every client. We recently had our Dad's 90th birthday party and every single guest raved about the beauty and taste of the cake. It was a HUGE hit. Hands down, best cakes in town. Go there!!

I attended a cake tasting on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the St Bernard Avenue location. The customer service, variety of cake options, taste, quality and over all tasting experience was wonderful. The tasting was conducted with the utmost professionalism. I was also impressed with the "can do" attitude, as well as the affordable cake pricing. I would highly recommend Royal Cakery! Please consider this establishment as a possible vendor for your next special event (large or small). Best cake ever!

Absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced in my entire life. We made an appointment for a cake tasting for our wedding, and when we walked in, the grown woman handling our tasting took one look at me and my fiancé and said have a seat, no greeting or welcome, so I was already on edge by how we were treated. She was very impatient and annoyed while instructing me to fill out the consultation form, even grabbing the pen out of my hand. I was tempted to walk out of the poor excuse of a business at this time, but instead took a couple deep breaths. I am convinced that the person helping us was discriminative based on our age and race, and I will be reporting to the BBB. I begrudgingly even paid the $20 consultation fee (which was probably put in place so they could still make money off the large sum of people who don't use them, due to their lack of customer service.) I emailed the owner my complaint, receiving no response. Therefore, I will continue to tell all the brides I know about my terrible experience. Don't waste your time driving all the way out there. I stand by my first impression that this business is highly unprofessional and has no integrity. Service of that kind would never be tolerated in the public arena. Do not recommend for my worst enemy to have to sit through a consultation and feel oppressed the entire time. 1 star because I am forced.

I HIGHLY recommend the royal cakery!!!! The wedding cake was STUNNING! When my daughter and I first saw the cake at the reception, we were speechless - which is not characteristic of either of us.We were so happy! The cake was truly a work of art - my daughter and I had brought pictures of 2 exquisite and very intricate cakes to the consult to merge as one cake - the cake was exactly as we envisioned it - no...the cake EXCEEDED our expectations!!!!!! And on top of this, it was the most delicious cake we've ever had. The huge number of people that continued to ask me where the cake was from continued for the next 2 days! Yes, the bride was the main show stopper, but the cake was right behind her! Also, I could not have been happier with the customer service there -yes, everyone was professional, but more importantly, they really cared about what we wanted - and at anytime between our consult and the wedding we had questions, they were easy to reach, and quick to respond with an answer! If you want your dream cake, this is the place!

I really love working with Shirelle and the team at Royal Cakery. I have used them exclusively for my special event cakes for the past 15 years and Shirelle never ever fails me. The cakes always taste better than I imagined, and will look above and beyond what my original idea may have been. Royal Cakery is always in high demand and her team works under tremendous pressure. They are busy baking ninjas, so you need to be patient with them while they gin out their creations, your patience will be worth the effort and will be rewarded. Because in the end, you will get a cake that will completely surpass your expectations. I have given Shirelle some out the box requests and she's always game. She even delivered a cake to one of the Mardi Gras balls for us and to Galatoire's in the middle of Mardi Gras.

This place NEVER disappoints. These ladies know what they're doing and are very reasonably priced. Just got my baby's birthday cake which far exceeded my expectations and anything I could have ever imagined.

I had a dream for my wedding- have chocolate wedding cake with poured icing (the stuff on petit fours). My mom and I discovered Royal Cakery and went in for a tasting. Not only was every cake we tried more delicious than the next, they were more than happy to design a cake no matter what. Their prices are reasonable and after you order the cake you want, they do the rest. The designed each layer to how I wanted it to be. They delivered the cake in a timely manner, put the cake pulls in, and it was perfect!

The two stars given here are strictly for the fact that their cake is really good. Probably the best chocolate with chocolate French buttercream I've ever had. My wedding cake was beautiful and delicious. For the past three years, I've tried to give them more business but their absolutely HORRIBLE service and record keeping has not made that possible. Emails not answered for weeks, phone not answered, phone answered rudely, orders consistently late... If my sister didn't check on her ordered a couple weeks before her wedding, she would have had someone else's cake. The lack of customer service is a direct reflection of management's lack of appreciation for the business they have.

Easily one of the most unprofessional groups of people I have ever tried to work with. Short story: We gave them a deposit of $500 to do our bride and groom cake. The bride cake was estimated at $1200 and the groom cake was estimated at $300. After a series of unforeseen circumstances we decided to only have our groom cake done by Royal Cakery. I even told them they could keep the remainder of the deposit as a bonus because they complained that they didn't know how to refund us. (not sure why they can't figure that out) Then within just a few weeks of the wedding - she took our contract, scratched out the $300 price and wrote $1100 and sent us the balance. Her only explanation was that she didn't think at first it would be that difficult. We decided to work with someone else and were VERY VERY pleased with their service. Royal Cakery refuses to answer any emails or phone calls on this matter and they even refused to address the Better Business Bureau of Louisiana when I filed a claim demanding our deposit returned. They kept our $500 for doing absolutely nothing but lying to us and giving us the runaround for 6 months.

This is my family's go to place for all of our birthday and celebratory cakes. If you dream it, they can make it and the cakes are always moist and rich.

My husband and I were married on May 10, 2014 and I would like to start off by saying that this was the BEST cake my family and I have ever had, and previously working in the wedding industry in the New Orleans area, I have tasted a lot of cakes! We had a lot of guests in from out of town and truly wanted to impress everyone and have a little something for each person's taste buds. We went with a White Chocolate cake and Cream Cheese pecan icing and the traditional almond cake with a strawberry filling and butter cream on the outside. I wanted something very different, different colored layers with some very detailed piping and they made it happen! Mrs. Shirelle and her team were absolutely amazing and all of our guests raved about the cake and how delicious and beautiful it was. To a few of the reviews below, I went to our consultation and filled out a form and was told that the deposit was needed to reserve the date, which I believe we sent a few weeks after the consultation, after sending photos of what I wanted and discussing the number and layers in more detail., etc. They take such pride in their work, and they are not a corp. bakery, so what I loved is that she thinks about things and makes sure to follow up and share her thoughts with you, whereas you do not get that type of service with other bakeries in the area. Also her cakes are not frozen and are made FRESH and DELICIOUS! For other tastings at other bakeries we were brought slices of cake that looked like finger sandwiches on paper plates in ziplock bags that you could taste the freezer burn or all the frostings tasted the exact same, etc. Our experience with Royal Cakery was such a breath of fresh air in such a stressful time and we could not have been more thankful and pleased! Mrs. Shirelle was completely straight forward, honest, and we look forward to working with them every year in having the best cake every for our anniversary! Great job and thank you so much for helping in making our day so very special!

I am just getting round to writing a review myself. I was throwing a party for my mother back in February 2012 and although I was a fool to go through it I did. Only because I my mother is really picky about cake and this particular cake/flavor I'd only experienced at Royal Cakery. So I continued with my service. I first called and stated my purpose which I explained to the lady (who answered the phone as if she didn't care to be bothered..smh) that I was giving a party for about 150 people and asked what do I need to do to book it. She rudely stated, oh we don't do birthday cakes we specialize only in wedding cakes! I said, oh really well that's not what your website states, your website advertises birthday cakes, shower cakes, other special occasion cakes with pictures in your gallery. Her reply was well we only do wedding cakes, and I said well the cake that I want to order isn't any ordinary cake I'm having a big party and I need it to serve at least 150 persons which is the size of a small wedding cake, so now are you still going to refuse my business, and that heffa hung up on me!!! I was hotter than fish grease, I wanted to cut up, drive over there on there next business day and act a fool, but I remained calm. Just when I should have been completely DONE with their unprofessional tails. I called a friend whom I know recently had a wedding with them and got her to call and book the cake and that is how I got my birthday cake book. Although very delish, I will give them the credit for taste and appearance, beautiful work but they alllllllllll need to take some sort of business/how to be professional even when you don't feel like being at work class A.S.A.P. I finally went to sit down with the lady Sherill's sister about the design and let me tell you she had a look on her face like she did not want to see me, I spoke when I walked into the bakery (because I was raised that way) and I had to pray to hold my composure, she was actin like she was doing me a favor. ahem excuse me ma'am I AM PAYING FOR THIS YOU ARE NOT DOING FOR FREE!!!! I had a very hilarious friend with me and she could see that I was about to 9th ward pop off, so she cracked a joke and the heffa laughed, and me too. However, PROFESSIONALISM is definitely something they lack and if Sherill plans on keeping her small bakery business, I suggest that she gets some professional training for her sister and the rest of her family members that work in her bakery, they always said it's bad to do business with family and friends sometimes because they will run you business in the ground!! Well Sherill if you're reading this, just look at it 50% of the reviews are negative, so that should tell you something. It's not that hard to put a smile on your face to greet people and be polite when dealing with them, it's called giving good customer service. Another note: if the only thing you specialize in are wedding cakes, then I suggest you remove the fact that you state on your website that you do them, there is no such thing as we do other cakes during slow season, people get married in every month. You either do it or you don't. but if that's the case you need to specify that exact information on your website before you find yourself in a lawsuit for false advertisement, cell phones do record conversations and as unprofessional as your staff is they will get you all caught up in a nice lawsuit. I started to do, but I didn't want to hurt your business, because you're doing that all by yourself. Although yall are ghetto, I still might call to see if I can get another cake for an up coming even though.... :-)

I don't know how you could not love this place! I have been to a lot of weddings and have had a lot of bad cake. We didn't have a budget to our wedding so it was not like we "settled" for The Royal Cakery. We lived in NOLA and 90% of our guests were from out of town and staying at the hotel. They left with slices of cake and we had people coming back for more after they left the party. For the groom's cake I had something unique in mind and there was nothing like it in their book or on the Internet. It was a vision that they made come true. I explained what I wanted and one of the bakers said it wasn't really "do-able", but we talked and mulled over technical idea and finally came to a place where she said 'we will try and do our best'. I didn't see the final product or a drawing before my wedding day. IT WAS AMAZING and exactly what I pictured in my head (it was a Saints cake-half exposed dome with players on the field and my husband was in the huddle). I submitted it to the Saints and it was featured on one of their social media sites at one point. At the end of the night, they wrapped up the top layer cake and told us how we are supposed to eat it on our first anniversary. Shortly after the wedding we moved. We put our cake in a cooler for a 12 hour drive and put it back in a freezer a day later. So much was going on and we didn't have a chance to cut it until about a year and a half or so after our wedding. IT WAS THE BEST CAKE WE EVER HAD even a year and a half later!!! They aren't open every day and are not as accessible as a regular retail store. It may take some phone tag and leaving messages and that can be frustrating for some people because our culture is used to the 24/7 availability, but don't let that get to you. Trust these wonderful ladies. It is now our first baby's first Birthday and we are making a special trip to NOLA from SC to get our son's 1st Birthday cake. Thank you for the amazing memories!!!

Our red velvet wedding cake (with French buttercream icing) from Royal Cakery was one of the highlights of the day. It was beautiful (just like the reference photo I sent), and--not exaggerating--it was the BEST TASTING CAKE I have ever had in my life. I would give 10 stars if I could! Can't wait to get another red velvet cake from them one day... maybe for our anniversary!

If you are considering Royal Cakery, stop what you are doing and contact Pure Cake NOW. I did not use Royal Cakery for my wedding cake because they lost my reservation. Several months before my wedding, I went for a consultation and tasting. I assured the owner that I had no other appointments; I wanted to book Royal Cakery for my wedding, and I was willing to sign a contract and pay a deposit if necessary that day. Not necessary, I was told. Contact us a few months before your wedding to finalize your design, she said. All I needed to do was complete a consultation form. As instructed, I contacted the bakery a few months before my date to finalize design and to remind them of the specifics of our meeting--number of guests, flavors, colors, etc. I received an email saying that they were booked for my date. Thank goodness I had NOT paid a deposit--with that type of record keeping, who knows if I'd ever get it back! I didn't have time to spare to argue with them. Fortunately, my planner contacted Pure Cake as soon as I let him know about the cancellation. Pure Cake is far more delicious, and their designers are more creative. Sure, Royal Cakery could probably make anything from Pinterest, but then, that's what you'd have--a cake that looks like everyone else's.
