Decided to come here on a Sunday afternoon (party of 9). They were able to seat our large party fairly quickly (20 mins). The service was professional and the food was served quickly. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. (The plantains were delicious!) If I had one complaint it would be the cleanliness of the bathrooms & the limited availability, as there is only one stall for men and one stall for women (expect an occasional line). Overall, I would recommend checking this place out if looking for a quick & casual bite to eat.

A must-visit in New Orleans! The Rum House absolutely delivered on flavor and vibes. I ordered the redfish, and it was outstanding — perfectly seasoned, juicy, and meaty. Every bite was packed with flavor! I also tried the crab balls, and they were delicious and full of real crab (not filler!). I sampled the ribs from someone else’s plate and wow — tender and flavorful, fall-off-the-bone good. The guacamole was super fresh, and the chips were warm and crisp, clearly made in-house. And of course, you can’t go wrong with their Hurricanes — strong, smooth, and dangerously good 🍹🔥 Definitely adding this spot to my go-to list every time I’m in NOLA.

The food here is top of the line I can't get over the fact that I ordered 4 different tacos and it came out in like 5 minutes! It was like fast home cooked soup food or something never experienced anything like it before! The patty and plantains are delicious as well and I loved the art all over the place the ambiance was really giving New Orleans hometown gem!

Google
Unique fusion dishes. So tasty. Great presentation. Friendly staff with quick service would have received a 5, but my medium rare steak was more on the medium side(still delicious), and I waited almost 15mins on my highly anticipated banana bread pudding b4 my server came back to tell me they were actually out of it. Totally bummed...But I will be back!

Google
First visit! The taco meals are the best. We enjoyed cauliflower and the crispy fish tacos. The sides of black beans and succotash were delish! Also ordered the appetizer crab and sweet potato fritters. The sauce was especially yummy.

Google
Stopped here as part of a food tour. We had a selection of their tacos and patties. Non-traditional, but fantastic spins on these classics. Service was fast and friendly. Drinks are also great. No notes.

As I get older restrooms get increasingly more important. With a nearly overflowing bladder I just hoped I was a Bob and not a Rita. As a first time visitor the Bob and Rita references were beyond me. After seeing the second Bob Marley picture it began to make sense. Taco Bell ain’t never gonna serve tacos like the Rum House. Duck, shrimp, fish and another hand crafted taco unlike anything I’ve ever had back home in South Central Missouri. The tastes of the tacos, sides and service lived up to Bob Marley’s legacy. Certainly worth a return trip.

Google
My dine in experience is always great here (take out is a different story.. stick to dinning in if you can. Take out they make you feel like you’ve committed an atrocity and as you wait at the bar for said order, the bar keep makes you feel like you shouldn’t be there or are inconveniencing them :/ ) however, I love this restaurant, it’s one of my favorites when in Nola. I visits at least 2-3 times for dinner when I am in Nola. Every taco I’ve had here is incredible and their Nachos are great! Even their mixed drinks are bangers. =) the wait staff is great when you dine in. (Not a fan of the key lime pie)

Yelp
My friends and I stopped here for a quick bite and we were pleasantly surprised! The food came out hot and fresh and the menu had a large variety. I chose the mahi sandwich and the bread was so delicious and perfectly toasted, the fish was flakey as well. The staff was very friendly and very attentive.

Yelp
Service was excellent! We had a wonderful server who made wonderful recommendations. Although we were enticed by the avocado mango dip, we went with the crab and sweet potato fritters with a side of chipotle sauce and it was delicious! It had a nice kick to it, and was more sweet potato than crab , which we loved. For the tacos, we went with the big plate, sampling our favorite 4 And each was delicately prepared and plated. My favorite was the chili glazed shrimp, and Green chili chicken and fried cauliflower were yummy too. They really have the flavor profile down well. Corn tortillas, were a little small, but it hit the spot. This plate is easy to share. Although roasted veggies may not be your first choice as a side, they pair very nicely, are well. Seasoned, and add some much-needed fiber to the meal. The sweet plantains traditional Caribbean and good. My only concern with this experience was the uncomfortable seats. It would have been nice to have some cushion, instead of sitting on the metal chair. I felt like I was slipping after a little while. Overall great vibes!

Yelp
We are regularly here on a many given weekend. The Rum House is an absolute gem! From the vibrant atmosphere to the incredible food and drinks, this spot hits all the right notes. Their menu is a delicious mix of Caribbean-inspired dishes with bold and fresh flavors. The tacos are a must-try--so creative and packed with flavor--and their sides, like the coconut rice and sweet plantains, are the perfect additions. And let's not forget the drinks! Whether you're craving a classic mojito or one of their unique rum cocktails, the bar menu is top-notch. One of the things I love most about The Rum House is that it's dog-friendly! As long as you sit outside, your furry friend is welcome to join you while you dine. It's such a fun and laid-back spot to enjoy with your pup by your side. The service is always friendly and attentive, and the outdoor seating adds to the relaxed, tropical vibe. Whether you're stopping by for a casual lunch, date night, or just to enjoy some time with your dog, The Rum House is the perfect spot. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Rum House is a solid spot in NOLA with amazing redfish perfectly seasoned with a delicious smoked flavor. The drinks are strong and well-made, so you're definitely getting your money's worth. The queso with beef is a must-try rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. And if you go, Taco Tuesday is a must! $7 drinks and $4tacos I highly recommend the Drew Brees and chili glazed shrimp tacos. On top of that, the service is great, with friendly staff and great service. It was so good we went twice in a week!

Yelp
We're always at The Rum House lol. We do Taco Tuesday there a lot, even though the deal isn't fantastic. $4 tacos, but the Mr. Biggs plate is always $21 for four tacos with 2 sides, so... but regardless, it's worth it, and very tasty. The service seems to be improving! We always enjoy sitting on that little busy corner of magazine looking out the big windows, people watching during our meal. It captures a NOLA vibe very well.

Yelp
If The Rum House was transported to Negril beach, you'd sit down and never leave - that's how relaxing it is inside. Reggae music, $5 Red Stripes, friendly wait staff, and a delicious assortment of creative Caribbean-inspired fare make this a must-visit spot on Magazine Street. Surrounded by curated vintage clothing shops, it's a nice change of pace from the hustle and noise of Bourbon Street - and in fact this locale is a local favorite. So if you need a break from gumbo and beignets, this is a great spot.

Yelp
Rum House is a very popular place in New Orleans for good tacos and Margheritas. I've been here a few times in the past and have always enjoyed the food. This time we came closer to closing and were seated outside in the furthest table to the left. The table we sat at was not very well lit and we struggled reading out menus. We got chips and queso to share and for dinner I ended up getting the Taco Trifecta with shrimp tacos and the cornbread dressing. The food is consistently good, I was not disappointed. I asked about salsa but there was an additional charge for that so we opted out. Service: Service was a little slow this night, but it was most likely because it was towards the end of the night and they were winding down. Drinks: The Rum House is known for their Margheritas. They have a huge variety of options. Parking: Street parking on Magazine is paid parking, but the trick is to park a block off of Magazine street for free parking. Outside Seating: Lots of outdoor seating. Pets: Pets are allowed outside.

Yelp
The taco trifecta was amazing! I had the crispy Mahi Mahi, Jerk chicken and Brisket with a side of black beans. It made my taste buds dance!

Yelp
We stopped by here on a whim since we went on a walking tour nearby. They have an extensive menu - everything from lamb vindaloo to different types of tacos. I order a Jamaican Me Crazy and it was phenominal. The BF order the Painkiller, he wasn't a huge fan. Seems like my drink was the winner. Mom ordered a lamb Vandeloo, which she loved, but it didn't have enough meat on it in her opinion. BF and I ordered the nachos and the ribs which we split between one another. The nachos were amazing, but we couldn't finish them. They were huge. The ribs were great - BF said he loved the ribs. The sauce was super flavorful. Our server was very nice and hospitable. Bathrooms are single stall. Restaurant was clean. Overall an awesome place for lunch, happy hour, whatever.

Yelp
Took an Uber to Magazine St on a recommendation ... The Rum House was the destination ... and I could go back every night we are in town if there weren't so many other spots to try. Menu is on point, everything we ordered was amazing. We sat outside to enjoy the vivid life of the neighborhood. Tourists and locals alike enjoying something new and old favorites. Our server passionately recommended 2 dishes - the lamb shank vindaloo ... and the grilled jerk red fish entrees. They were indeed spectacular. I ordered a Mr Biggs Plate of tacos comes with a side, Jamaican beef pie and 2 plantains. my favorite taco was the fried oyster ... close 2nd was the shrimp. My least favorite was the glory hallelujah - didn't like the greens and the mahi was flavorless. I got the side of ancho mashed potatoes ... they were tasty but overly salted. Staff was great. Everything was homemade and full of life ... make sure this place is on your list!

Yelp
Solid 4.5 stars. Good drinks and great food. What more can you ask for. If you're looking for a spot outside of the tourist area, Rum House is pretty good. I live in San Diego and we need a place like The Rum House out here. If you're hungry, definitely stack up on the tacos. They're small but packed with flavor. My favorite is the brisket and calypso beef. Can get packed in the evening or weekends but always a "vibe" Oh and the Curried Mussels ... absolutely delicious. Trust me. Been here twice now and every time I'm in town, I will return!

Yelp
I got the key lime pie to go and it was still delicious an hour later. And even the day after!

Yelp
After a long day of travel and feeling a bit under the weather, I decided to check out the Rum House. The food is really really good and it's a good value. I ordered an extra side of sweet plantains to go with my leftover roti. And to top it all off, I ordered the key lime coconut punch which is fantastic! Dangerously yummy. Service is excellent and quick. The atmosphere is nice with a Caribbean flair. Hate that the location in Baton Rouge closed a while ago but so glad that the original is still going strong and just a short drive away.
google avatar

Yelp
If this was a fine dining establishment I would give it 3 stars. However, considering it's the rum house and more known for its alcoholic drinks, I will review it as such. The food was good. But just good. The skirt steak was advertised as medium rare and personally I do not believe it was. The plantains were great. The potato's were good initially, but there was far too little gravy and once it was gone they were dry and flakey. Everything could have used more flavor, as I found it a little bland. They have a lot of staff and we had a friendly waiter who recomended us his favorites. It's in a cute spot in magazine and the music fits the atmosphere well. It was filling but not a place to impress someone.
google avatar

Yelp
Long wait, chill spot. I'll let you know more once I've placed my order. It's obviously busy. Now, where was I? I ordered the key lime pie with hesitation, but oh was it delicious. It is not your grandmother's key lime pie at all. The crust was thick and firm. The filling was smooth and not too tart. And then that meringue! Oh my heavens! Thank you Rooney for that recommendation! I will be back for more. Until next time...

Yelp
Environment was really nice. Inside and outside seating. Weather was very pleasant. Recommend the tacos that are served ala carte. Also had the fried plantains with the coconut rice. Really nice. The seared ahi tuna salad was fantastic.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was attentive without hovering. I'm not sure if this is a chain. I was pleasantly surprised how interesting the menu was. ESP the tacos. Very interesting inventive combos. They'll but a beer in a marg...so from my POV the cocktail list is perf.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place over 10 yrs and it's been consistently good. Unfortunately, my visit today wasn't the greatest. I went for lunch while I was back in town for a quick visit. The line for seating outside wasn't too long and was about a 15 min wait. My server was nice. The service was fast at first, especially since I was alone, but it was clear that my server forgot about me about she brought out my appetizer. Once she remembered to come take my order, it took about 30 minutes for my food to come out. Unfortunately, when my food did come out, there was a long blonde hair covering 3 of my tacos. After about 10 minutes, I was able to get my server's attention, and she took the food back and had it remade. My new order was brought out packed to go. The one great thing about my visit was getting to sit outside on Magazine St. on a nice day. The mango avocado dip was as good as I remember, and the chips were warm and fresh. The veggies were really good and so were the plantains. The tacos (without the hair) were good. My favorite tacos were the jerk chicken and grilled shrimp. I would've given this a 4 if it weren't for the overall experience with the hair and long wait. I will say the server was nice and the manager did come out and apologize- I appreciate the customer service without having to bring up the issue myself. I will visit again and hope it's a better experience next time!

Yelp
I miss BR Rum House so much more after visiting the one in NOLA! My mom and I came for lunch and wanted somewhere casual but delicious so I suggested this spot. The only complaint was my frozen strawberry margarita being too strong but Ik that's a plus for some people I always get the drew brees and we got sweet potatoes fritters for appetizers which were DELICIOUS
google avatar

Amy A.

Yelp
I wish I had photos of the food but we inhaled everything before I thought to take a picture. Tacos - fabulous. Roasted Rasta veggies - I could eat these all the time. Cubans - glorious (although a member of our party asked for no pickle and I'm still wondering why anyone would do that). Dessert - so good! The bread pudding was moist and light and the key lime pie was loaded with merengue but had that classic sweet/tart contrast. Our server was fabulous and the only photo I got was the check, which came with a fine tip pen instead of a ubiquitous roller ball. That attention to detail and grace underscored every sauce and seasoning so I felt it fitting to post.

Yelp
If you are a student living in Nola - where do you take your: big brother, father, and grandfather for their first meal when they come to visit? Naturally you take them to your favorite place; and for my daughter that is: The Rum House! She brought us here Tuesday May 7th 2024, and we all loved it! We started with their Damn Good Nachos. Management is being modest - they should be named Damn Great Nachos! If you get them, my daughter suggests getting a side of extra Queso. She declared it the best Queso, and I can't disagree. It was Taco Tuesday, so of course we ordered a bunch of $4 tacos, and also some sides. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend the Jerk Chicken Taco. It was definitely my favorite! Service was excellent, and prices are very reasonable. I can't wait for my next visit!

Yelp
Apps and Cocktails * The Rum House never disappoints. From appetizers to cocktails to main courses; always delish. I will say expect some delays in getting refills and mains, but you will understand why once you are served. The decor is very Caribbean coastal and really sets the mood for what is to come. * If you are a guacamole fan, give this a try. They top it with a mango medley and it adds a nice sweet twist. * If you like a Caribbean cocktail, this is a great spot to catch some. We did Sangria, Piña Colada & Skinny Margarita. Dare I say they were all perfect recipes for what you want to expect

Yelp
Wow, blown away by this fun place! Taco Tuesday is a great deal. All tacos $4. An extensive array of taco choices. Vegetarian options. Huge salads. Lots of interesting seafood and meat choices. Yummy queso and warm chips. Service excellent. Server kept the iced tea filled! Full bar. Indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
We had a great time eating a late lunch here. The curried mahi mahi tempura appetizer was perfect with the mango dipping sauce, and the seafood pepper pot was rife with all types of seafood. They were pretty steadily busy, and our server had a lot of tables, so we had to wait a bit, but we didn't mind because we enjoyed sipping our drinks and watching the sports on tv. It has a laid back island-y vibe, and it's a great spot for a casual, delicious meal. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here twice with friends. My second visit, our service was lacking (slow, inattentive, mistakes in orders). Although our server was very nice, there was a lot of room for improvement int hat department; hence the 1 star deduction. Now, for the reasons we actually came... Ambiance is fun, Caribbean-inspired, great music. There are loads of tasty drinks to choose from. Their daiquiris are their signature, so definitely give them a try. Each time I went, I ordered the server's suggestion/new seasonal drink and was satisfied. Last time I had the blueberry mojito, and I would definitely get it again. Food...the food! The menu is a gold-mine of Caribbean fusion dishes. If tacos are your forte, there are pages of traditional and creative style tacos. I have had the red curry rundown, which is a spin on traditional coconut rundown from the islands. Paired with their coconut rice, it's delicious! I have also had the seafood pepperpot, which I ordered with a side of rice so I could make it into more of a stew. Loved it! The Jamaican beef patties have good flavors with the queso and hot sauces, but they are definitely empanadas (as described), not patties. I'll be keeping Rum House on my list for future NOLA trips.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite places to visit when I am in New Orleans. For starters I ordered the Avocado Mango Dip with the white corn tortillas. It was freshly prepared and the mango twist made it even better. Before seated I tried Pina Colada, simple drink served lovely here . I continued with an Urban South "Paradise Park" Lager, it was a darn good beer to complement my Shrimp & Chorizo quesadilla. While on Magazine Street you just can't go wrong grabbing some food here . Lively atmosphere, great grub and good vibes .

Yelp
Omg these tacos were everything!!! I could have ate another round. So unique and delicious blend of flavors. The waiter was fine; possibly new but with tacos this great, I don't think he could have ruined that experience. Inside felt clean and a fine atmosphere for a casual date or to bring family.
google avatar

Chrishante R.

Yelp
Food was AMAZING, the fried oyster tacos was one of our favs. We ordered a second round of those tacos . The chile shrimp glaze was great, but they ran out of the chile glaze sauce when I went to order my second round of tacos . The margaritas were PERFECT, just wish when my server took our second order of tacos she would've asked did we want another. She moved soo fast away from us that we didn't get a chance to order them ! Getting the check was a wait, it wasn't really busy around 7:30pm. Kaia was our server, was rushy with taking our order, and slow with bringing the bill even though we asked for it twice . But she seems sweet!
google avatar

Yelp
Rum House has been a staple in its location for some years and it has a consistent spot in my Taco Tuesday rotation. I'm a big fan of the mahi mahi finger appetizer. The mango salsa and the sauce really makes it a great dish. The frozen mango margarita is delicious and sweet and strong enough for me to only have one when I want to keep it classy. I tend to get the same tacos every time: the chipotle shrimp and the Glory Glory Hallelujah, which has a delicious couple bites of fried mahi, collard greens, pickled red onion and tartar sauce. It's always sooo good! The space is bright and colorful and intentionally gives island vibes. On nice days, its great to sit outside. No reservations. Taco Tuesday is always busy. Go early!

Yelp
We love The Rum House. It is a pretty consistently a very well-made meal. Fresh food for sure. Service is attentive. Nice vibe.

Yelp
The restaurant is nestled in a restaurant-filled area on Magazine Street. The parking is street parking, but there were lots of parking available. The restaurant was very busy upon arrival, but the wait staff were on top of all the customers and their needs. I was surprised that there wasn't a wait for tables. Jenna, my waitress, was very kind and informative. She made my first visit here a wonderful experience. I ordered the Mr. Biggs Plate. I chose jerk chicken and shrimp for my tacos. The meal also came with a meat pie and plantains. I was so shocked at how authentically Caribbean the food flavors were. Everything was cooked to perfection and very delicious. The meat pie seemed small but was filled to the brim with meat. The meat had a subtle spiciness but didn't take away from the seasoning. The cost to eat here is very reasonable. The quality of the food is worth way more than they charge for it. I would definitely recommend this place to locals and tourist, alike.

Yelp
VIBES - REALLY CUTE . Really vibrant ! My friends and I were looking for a fun chill place to go and this was perfect. GOOD MUSIC PLAYING. TASTE - DELICIOUS. I got an assortment of shrimp tacos! My friends were also happy with their food. DRINKS- I'm a girly who likes a sweet drink that does what it's supposed to do. I got a frozen mojito and it was amazing! SERVICE - OUR WAITER Was so nice. The staff even offered to take our photos afterwards. CLEANLINESS - seemed clean. I didn't get to use the restroom but the tables and floors were up to par. SEATING - very good. We were sat quickly . Regular table and chairs. Spacious enough.

Yelp
Rum house is one of my fav spots for a few top items: - Top shelf Margarita: SO good, has flavor, and is strong! - Tacos: my personal fav is the fried oyster and and the chili glazed shrimp! - The mashed potatoes!!!! If you're gonna get a side, get these. They're made so wonderfully and also have a bit of a spice kick. Some of the best I've had honestly. The service is always consistent, but there is usually a bit of a wait on busy nights/weekends. But you can order a drink or something at the bar while you wait! The ambiance is very chill, spacious, and welcoming. I've been to rum house probably 10+ times and I definitely plan to be back! Run me the same food again & again!
google avatar

Leah F.

Yelp
This place had a great atmosphere and we were seated quickly. The food was very fresh and overall wonderful! The service was kinda of slow with refills. We came for the Eras Tour concert and enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
Tiny but delicious tacos! Tried 3 different types of tacos and enjoyed all 3 flavors even though one of them wasn't what I ordered! These tacos are tiny (2 to 3 bites) so by the time I figured out that my taco was not shrimp I also realized I liked the flavor enough that I wouldn't ask for the correct one and just eat the rest of that one! You can't go wrong with the tacos, just read the description and make sure it's things you like. You can however go wrong with the mango rice, I was expecting something different and didn't like the dry texture and artificial taste of the rice. They have a large selection of drinks that really assist with island vibe and music they have going. Had both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall it's good but I'd try a different side than the rice and I'd honestly get the 4 taco plate instead!
google avatar

Anokhy D.

Yelp
There was a bit of a wait but that's expected for a Saturday night. It went by quickly because they gave us pagers that let us roam down the street and away from the crowded entry. I got the Jamaican Me Crazy and Trinidadian Street Roti and it was exactly what I needed. Service was fast relative to how packed it was, and portions were more than enough for the food and drinks. It gets very loud very quickly so if you're here after Jazz Fest and are feeling overstimulated, just bring your earplugs.
google avatar

Kyle R.

Yelp
Rude service. Older waitress that seems annoyed we were there. Terrible cocktails and mediocre food.
google avatar

Kilbert P.

Yelp
Supposed to be Caribbean, well it was very insipid no taste whatsoever. And to add to insult restaurant wasn't even busy and it took forever to get the food and it all came cold. Also one of the side items was waffle sweet potato fries, they were straight up fries. Service was less than average. Ambience was average. So disappointed. Will never eat there again.
google avatar

Elsa G.

Yelp
I wish I had been more hungry when I came here because I absolutely loved the food I did try. Our group got the Damn Good Nachos and boy were they good! The pulled pork on top was so tender and flavorful. All the toppings were quite fresh. There was just a bit of heat from the jalapeños. Such a great shareable dish for a group! I also got a Duck Duck Goose taco with a side of roasted rasta vegetables. The vegetables were great! Perfectly roasted and very flavorful! But the best thing that I tried was the Duck Duck Goose taco. The duck pieces were so tender and moist and there were also some pieces of crispy duck skin. The slaw on top was fresh and added a contrasting crunch compared to the duck. I was worried about the five spice maple sauce but it actually was not too sweet. It was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. One of the best tacos I have ever had!

Yelp
The oyster tacos and the Mac and cheese are divine! Love the laid back ambiance and our server was super helpful with the recs!

Yelp
Was in the garden district for a tour and wanted to grab a bite before. Found this place to have good reviews and it was not very busy on a Monday afternoon. We had the crab and sweet potato balls and pork tacos both amazing! Would recommend

Yelp
My partner and I arrived in NoLa KNOWING we needed to try this place. Everyone recommended it. We popped in day one and ordered 2 painkillers, my go to drink if offered. DELICIOUS! Third day we came back, seated, and ready to order. Our waiter was PHENOMENAL. He gave us recommendations on what to order, drinks he liked, and also a hand written list of places he liked outside of the Rum House that he thought we would also appreciate. The vegetarian tacos were amazing, absolutely ADORED to cauliflower tacos. The trinidad street roti... COME ON!!!! This was incredible. Like indian inspired chalupas that were crispy and tasted so so so good. We were drooling. Absolute must stop on Magazine Street.

Yelp
Came for brunch during the week. It was not busy at all and service from Emma was great! Got the taco combo with a side of Mac. Yummmm! Everything was so good!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was great! I think they may had been low staffed so it took some time to get our checks. Would recommend the empanadas and the beef tacos.

Yelp
Okay, i haven't eaten here, to be fair. But i had to leave a little five star quickie for this place, which has provided, every year without fail, fantastic rum shake freezes to me and my friends when we come through for work. They are dependable, good, boozy goodness. Everyone (of age) should try them!!
google avatar

Yelp
Everyone in New Orleans said I had to eat there but it's somewhere I don't have to go back to. The food and service were OK.

Yelp
We stumbled upon The Rum House while getting hungry (read: hangry) during a self-guided walking tour of the Garden District. So we made our way and quickly got a table. It's a pretty big restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating and very friendly staff. We both got tacos and they were all pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but it satisfied the hunger.

Taking that big bus tour around town like a loser. Stopped across the street from this restaurant. I did not want it at first but ended up changing my mind. I was pleasantly surprised with everything we ate and would make this a place to come to when ever back in town.
