SF’s 2019 James Beard Award Winners | Eater SF

"After being nominated every year since 2012, I was pleased to see Bar Agricole finally take home the award for outstanding bar program; owner Thad Vogler accepted it, thanked partners Eric Johnson and Andreas Willausch, joked "Eighth time’s a charm," and emphasized that they "mix things made by other people," noting that they work with many small producers who take risks to collaborate with them." - Caleb Pershan

We celebrated a fabulous family event yesterday afternoon and were blown away by the incredible job the team at Rust and Gold accommodating our group of 50+ people to celebrate our son and future daughter in law’s surprise engagement! This was where they had their first drink together. The manager Evan was amazing! He reserved a large area next to the bar with several booths. We used bracelets to keep track of our tab. Fabulous finger foods and drinks were served promptly to our guests as they arrived. This skilled staff attended to our every need so that we could enjoy celebrating with our son, daughter in law, families and friends! So grateful and wish I could give more ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

Me and my best friend came here last night for drinks and had a lovely time. We each had an espresso martini and a cosmopolitan, both were delish! All the bartenders were super friendly and the service was great. DJ stand was a nice touch. This is a good place to come for casual drinks, but the crowd on a Saturday night is mostly people in their thirties, but maybe we were there too early!

Google
The food has gotten better over the years but still needs some work.... The expansion of the tables on the right side was a great idea. I was able to get a drink in under 10 minutes which is an upgrade from previous times I've been. There. Keep doing what you guys are doing and when the college kids come back from school for break this winte r....please please please keep the same vibe.

Google
If you are looking for a lively sports bar with a good beer, burger, and crowd, then you must be looking for the Rust & Gold located in the heart of Huntington Village on Gerard Street. The industrial-type decor gives off a more urban vibe while the food screams comfort all through their menu. The staff is friendly and attentive. The chef prepares each item so it tastes delicious and amazingly seasoned at decent pricing. The place has good seating, multiple TVs, and a big bar that draws a crowd.

Google
Came here for a Saturday lunch and were seated promptly. We enjoyed the food & drinks but the service was kind of lousy. The table behind us had the same complaints; appetizers, entrees, drinks, and check all took an extremely long time to come out. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip, Sesame Buffalo wings, and Bacon & Ranch Chicken sandwich. The frozen Strawberry Watermelon margarita was delicious!

Mark D.

Google
Very lively, with trivia games and karaoke and outside seating. Our waitress Heather was great, very attentive and sweet, without being overbearing. She took very good care of us.

Google
We usually go there to watch the college football games on Saturdays and had nothing but good things to say. But I think they had a change in owner and now instead of hearing the sounds of all of the games that are playing on their TVs, club music is pounding throughout the restaurant and bar. I don't think we'll be going back there. It's a shame cuz it was a good place to watch a game.

Google
We came here with a group of friends to surprise our friend for her engagement and were told we could sit outside and a server would come over. Unfortunately, no one ever came. At 8:00 PM we repeatedly went inside to ask about ordering, and each time we were told to just sit outside and someone would be right with us—but no one ever showed. When we finally went inside to place an order, the bartenders didn’t seem to know how to make many of the drinks on the menu and often said they didn’t have the ingredients for them. On top of that, the drinks we did receive were completely different from what we ordered. The service was consistently disappointing all night. What used to be a fun and enjoyable spot has really gone downhill. The staff behind the bar seemed unprepared and inexperienced, and it made the whole experience frustrating.

Yelp
Drinks and staff are great . The bar is so much fun and I love how em they always have good stuff on the TVs . Not your average sports bar but a good one at that. Food could be better . It needs more love.

Yelp
Trivia night was fun. Participants were competitive lol. Food came out great. Mozzarella triangles were real delicious. Gabbi was a great host. Spicy margarita was a hit.

Yelp
The Rust and Gold Huntington, NY @therustandgold The Rust and Gold is located in the heart of Huntington, offering a laid back atmosphere... but packs in the flavor with its food and specialty cocktails. A great spot to grab a bite to eat, or a night out on the town! For food you have to get The Golden Onion - a giant onion sliced and fried to perfection! We also really loved their Bronx Chicken Parm Sandwich made with vodka sauce and hot peppers on a garlic ciabatta. Their Bang Bang Shrimp were also delicious and you can't o wrong with their 8oz prime blend of chuck and brisket burgers! Their cocktails were tasty, balanced, and presented beautifully. You have to get their signature frozen espresso martini! We loved the rest of the drinks we got, truly can go wrong with any drinks here. We love it here and we know you will to! Come check them out! Follow us on Instagram @drinklongislandny for full video and many more spots!

Yelp
Me and my friend's go to spot for apps and drinks! The cocktails are always good and the staff are all so kind. I really like the dark, pub amosphere. I think they have a DJ on weekends! My usual choice of snacks are the mozerella triangles and corn dip but today I tried the popcorn chicken since it's the first time I've seen it on the menu. It was pretty good! I forgot to use the lemon but the herbs in the dish compliment the chicken really well. If you like tequila, the Tequila Drink is a must! I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Came here after the Huntington Tree lighting. Good thing we got here early because this place fills up fast! We chose to sit at the bar. The bartender greeted us immediately and offered menus. I had a spicy margarita and the gold castle burgers. The margarita was spicy but perfectly made! So tasty! The gold castle burgers are three sliders with cheese, onions, pickles and ketchup. I have to say they were absolutely amazing!!! They were a generous size. So flavorful, fresh and cooked perfectly. I asked for medium rare and they were exactly that! They came with French fries. I love French fries but these tasted as if they were cooked in an oil that has been burned. Was disappointed and didn't eat them. They had all football games on various screens. A fun place overall with a great vibe.

Yelp
I guess it was an off night when comparing my experience to the other reviews. We arrived and waited about 10 minutes for a hostess to come to the front, a line forming behind us. We sat down and the waitress promptly came over and took our drink order. My hubby had the tequila drink, he enjoyed it, and I had the frozen watermelon margarita. The frozen margarita was just really sweet and tart, like too much watermelon concentrate. My hubby took a sip and thought it was disgusting, but it was tolerable to me. For appetizer we had wings, half Carolina, half buffalo. The wings were good, although the Carolina sauce was not what I was expecting. Carolina style is usually more vinegar based but these weren't. They came with a nice amount of blue cheese and I would get those again but only in the buffalo sauce. I'm a huge fan of fried pickles and these were a total miss for me. They taste like frozen fried pickles, very bland and just not tasty. For entrees we got a Tennessee hot chicken sandwich and bacon balsamic blue cheese burger. The Tennessee hot sandwich was not hot at all. Like we were staring at the chicken to see if there was even sauce on it, the chicken was not crispy etc. Definitely a skip. The balsamic blue cheese burger was also a skip for me. It was so bad. Extra well done, the balsamic glaze smelled so horrible and way too much, making the meat taste sour. The redeeming factor for both dishes were the onion rings and waffle fries. We both left super disappointed, and wish we spent the $130 elsewhere. It's also uncomfortably loud in there. We were shouting across the small table and still couldn't hear one another. One and done for us
google avatar

Yelp
Elevated sports bar, it's a nice spot to watch games over some food and drinks. As with most sports bars, be prepared for a LOUD environment inside. There's bar seating, as well as high tops and tables. There are also outdoor seats on the back patio, with a couple of TVs set up. The menu is straightforward, a typical tap list and bar food.
google avatar

Cristina S.

Yelp
Had a fun dinner hanging outside. Kids played corn hole and connect four. The food was fair. We ordered popcorn chicken and a bunch of sandwiches, wings Korean and Buffalo flavor. Typical size, the sauce flavors were ok. Burgers are small which is why they ask you if you want double patties, you do. Caesar was drowning in dressing. Drinks and beer selection was nice. Service great! Great hang out plus some good bar food.

Beck R.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!!!!!!! Service was horrible it took 30+ minutes for the server to even come speak to us. 20+ minutes for drinks and 50+ minutes for food for it to come out all wrong. The price on the bill was NOT what was listed on the menu. Zero stars

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday night with my friends and it was busy! Probably because of the Huntington Christmas Spectacular nearby. The ambiance was amazing as you walk into an open space where everyone is just chilling and having a great time. The bar is in the middle with bright decorations all around the walls. There are many games to play and enjoy with friends as well as a photo booth! On the left side wall is a chalkboard with menu items recommended. We sat on a high table and everyone was struggling not knowing where to put their jackets. Luckily, I was still cold so I kept it on the entire time. Everything blew my mind! I thought it would be like bad bar food but the corn dip was unique and delicious, mozzarella triangles were cheesy and fresh, and the chicken quesadilla was very good and not dry at all. Tried green tea shots for the first time and you absolutely don't taste any alcohol, just the herbalness of the tea. I love frozen drinks, but unfortunately the Pina colada was seasonal. So I tried the salted caramel espresso martini which tasted like something between an iced coffee or coffee ice cream. Will definitely come back if I'm in the area!
google avatar

Shakoya S.

Yelp
Food was average but not bad I wouldn't mind coming back. The mozzarella sticks wasn't that great the vodka sauce made it. The highlight of my meal was the chicken quesadilla that was good! I got the chicken snack wrap it was good my fries were good. My husband didn't really think much of his sandwich. But I'll be back for that chicken quesadilla. I also wished they had more of a variety of cocktails. Waitress was nice and checking on us often. We didn't have to wait too long for food which is always a good thing.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is solid. I would come again sooner if I lived closer. Came here with friends after watching the new Barbie movie and it was great addition to our day. I got the classic crispy chicken sandwich and the Rocket Fuel drink that allegedly has a dangerous amount of rum (and boy does it, I could taste the rum). The sandwich is delicious! The inside isn't as crispy but probably because I saved it for the end (and ate around the edges). The chicken itself was not too drThe sauce and cole slaw in the sandwich really compliment the whole meal. I only wish I had another stomach to eat it twice! The fries are crispy and fresh. Not too oily and still flavorful. The indoor dining is adjacent to an opening so you can feel the coolness of the AC but also appreciate the sun and air directly. Our waitress was also really nice and helpful with any requests we had.

Yelp
Great vibes and great cocktails and food! The service is awesome as well. They are polite and attentive. Lovely music and decor, my fav spot for snacks and a drink A+!!!
google avatar

Kimberly W.

Yelp
The food and service are good, but being able to sit outside on a lovely evening is really what brought us here.
google avatar

Kiera D.

Yelp
They have one of the best happy hours in my opinion. The food is good and the cocktails are great.
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
At this festive family dinner, I worked hard to eat everyone else's food in the name of journalism. The service was outstanding; the Austin East Cider was enjoyable, but perhaps more important on this hot day was the frequently filled ice-cold water. My proprietary algorithm steered me to the burger section but I spent too much time attempting to narrow it down from there. The appearance of North Country Thick Cut Bacon as an ingredient meant the winner was A Million Bucks, juicy and filling. The pretzel and crab dip were enjoyable, no surprise there, but the most unexpected delight was the Garden Heart Iceberg salad. Perhaps that's a startling repudiation of my anti-lettuce sentiments, but the aforementioned bacon turned up here too.

Yelp
This is a popular local bar with indoor/outdoor seating. Lots of other drink/food spots nearby for bar hopping. Relatively young crowd. Ample waiters for the tables. They used to have games, but seem to have got rid of them.

Noah R.

Yelp
The best place to grab a drink and hang in Huntington!! The popcorn chicken is unbelievable. 10/10 experience... a must visit!!

Davin F.

Yelp
During my first time here, the staff had accidentally sent out a dirty glassware to our table, and the owner came out and immediately apologized to us. Not also did he apologize but he took care of the drinks we ordered and a portion of the bill (which wasn't necessary). The staff did everything to make out stay better, including going out of their way to cater to our table. The entire staff was very kind, and the food was DELICIOUS. The burger was so juicy and cooked well, the fries were seasoned well and HOT. Presentation was great, and flavor delivered. Coming from a business standpoint, they handled it very well. We will return! Thank you Rust & Gold staff!
google avatar

Ash M.

Yelp
Came here for drinks and food with a friend to watch a rangers game. Ordered montauk wave chasers and some bar food. Service was on point for a busy night. We got the Buffalo chicken dip which was awesome. A mix of savory and hot, each and every bite got better and better. The mozz triangles are a must. They come with vodka sauce! I consider myself a mozzarella stick connoisseur and let me tell you... those things had a nice cheese pull that could go for miles. That's super important to me when I get mozz sticks haha. We also got chicken wings the Carolina bbq and the sesame Buffalo i believe we're the flavors we ordered. Super crispy and saucy just the way I like em! The food is good, but if you come here late at night expect it to be a party. This place knows how to have a good time if you're looking to drink in Huntington village and on Tuesday nights they have bingo!
google avatar

Taylor W.

Yelp
The food! The employees! The energy !The music! The drinks! This keeps us coming back, but we love the service we receive from Val! She can have 10 tables and make each party feel like the only one there. Her energy is unmatched and authentic. R&G, you folks have the best of the best when Val is on duty, that's why I always make sure to come back whenever I visit from Florida. Favorite app: Brussel Sprouts/Everything pretzel w/ cheese Favorite entree: Maui Hot and the Beet salad Favorite drink: anything with Herradura tequila! Watermelon Margarita w/ a floater Enzo espresso martini (Plus the water! There's something about the water at this place)
google avatar

Sonal M.

Yelp
All I have to say is that the Buffalo Chicken Dip is a must have!!!! Omg I have never had a dip taste this good, I couldn't stop eating it. It packs great flavor and a kick! Don't order this if you can't handle flavor. The Bronx Chicken parm was good but a bit spicy for me, my fiancé loved it. The pretzel was soft and fluffy and comes with 3 dips!
google avatar

Cameron A.

Yelp
This place was very good. The smash burger was excellent. I really liked the sesame bun. The sauce they put on the burger was also really good. The services was good. Food came out very fast. We also had some drinks they were also good.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Fun place!! The food is pretty good for a bar but the drinks and ambiance are really what make The Rust & Gold awesome.

Eddie H.

Yelp
Not my thing but maybe yours ? Loud loud LOUD Menu about as bland as they come with food to match. Our table agreed across the board our food was bland. Service was very good
google avatar

Martha L.

Yelp
I love this place and everything about it. We had great drinks and appetizers we ordered were great. The only reason I took off one star is that we had the absolute worst server I have had anywhere in years. She was quite rude, we were surprised by that. Everyone else seemed really great and we were fortunate enough to catch the attention of another server who brought us some silverware and was able to take the check with that was done since our server could not be bothered and hung out most of the time by the bar chatting. When we went up to the bar to inquire if we could have silverware for food because it had been sitting so long she got a little testy. We managed to get another server to bring it to us. We figured it was an off night so we will definitely give them another shot and make sure that we don't have that particular server. Otherwise everything about the place and everyone else that was working was spot on.
google avatar

Yelp
The service yesterday was definitely rusty at rust & gold, I came here yesterday with my girlfriend on on July 9 between 5:45 and 6 pm. Hostess seat us fast and I really loved the decor of this bar and how amazing the bar looked. I follow this place on instagram and it's been one of a lot of places I wanted to try. Got seated and the service was terrible. Me my girlfriend literally waited 20 minutes with no service. It was busy, but not busy why it should a took so long to get service. My girlfriend was literally giving every waitress the eye walking by and all she got was smiles but no service. There was plenty of waitresses standing behind the bar on their phone literally doing nothing. There's no excuses for how bad the service was and you got a do better Food menu looked amazing and I really wanted to try the food but I have no patience for waiting 20 mins with no service. We got water after being seated and waiting 10 plus minutes and waited another 10 and just got up and walked out. You got a do better on service, and I get it when restaurant is busy, but it wasn't busy to the point where service should have be compromised. You guys had plenty of servers and plenty standing around so nothing.
google avatar

Vivene M.

Yelp
Love this place great service go there for drinks and to watch a game been going here for years!

Yelp
I am absolutely disgusted about the experience I had at the Rust and Golf last night. I am a Combat Veteran who served over 21 years in the Army. I came in with a group of about 50 people on Veterans Day for our neighborhoods annual pub crawl which raises money for wounded warriors. I sat down at a high top next to the bar waiting for my wife to come back with our drinks. While I was sitting there, in a Veterans hat and T-shirt that identified me as being part of this group, the bouncer, with no explanation, came and ripped the table out from under my arms. I went outside to see why he did this. I thought perhaps someone needed the table. Nope. The table was sitting outside next to all the others- Unoccupied. He said since I didn't ask to be seated there, it was his right to remove the table out from under me. I have never had anything like this happen to me before. I was appalled and embarrassed. The organizer of our pub crawl told me the group won't be going back there next year. I'll never go back again.
google avatar

Greg F.

Yelp
Still one of the best places in Huntington when you really need a beer and burger, and those burgers are top-notch. I revisited R&G twice lately. First time, with a pal, we enjoyed the Disco Fries Dip....so tasty....plus the LI Chopped Cheese burgers. OMG, these things were so decadent. I want one now. The other night I was solo, and enjoyed a Barrier Money and the A Million Bucks burger, which comes with "north country thick bacon, aged NY cheddar, B&B pickles, dijonnaise and chive." The bacon was a bit too chewy to eat all of it, but otherwise, delicious! Oh, and sit outside. It's nice.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night around 5pm for a pre dinner drink. Vibe is very sports bar with good food. Nice ambiance. Drinks were on point. Had a margarita and the kid did a good job. Wife had vodka soda. No complaints. Great scream views if you're going for the fight or a game. Specials throughout the week. Would recommend for a quick drink or bite or guys nite out.
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
Service was bad. Our server wanted to hang out with the over abundance of security guys instead of filling our drinks. We were visiting from out of town and I've been following rust & gold on Instagram for a while. I was really looking forward to this experience. The tvs were way too loud for a Sunday evening. Food was just ok.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
One of the more popular bars in downtown Huntington, with decent drink options, a good DJ, and an outdoor area right in front to hangout, I can see why. Service is a little slow and drink quality leaves a little something to be desired, but when with busy places like this, I don't exactly expect the best quality, because this place gets packed out quick. Parking in all of Huntington is insane, but there is a big lot right in front, but it fills fast.
google avatar

Felicia F.

Yelp
The best place for a casual drink or a night out on the town. Tuesday night bingo is the highlight of my week! Also my favorite place to go out to on the weekends. The food is actually really good and they have really great drinks. The menu has gotten much larger and the new items are great
google avatar

Joanna D.

Yelp
I heard a lot about this place and had it on my radar for a while. It's hidden behind Main Street in Huntington and it's more of a bar than restaurant. My friends and I went on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy. Their menu isn't huge but they have a lot of great snacks and appetizers. We started off with the potato chips and loaded fries. Both were really good. The loaded fries were definitely my favorite. My friend and I shared the Grilled cheese frenchie which had a few different cheeses and onions. So delish!! We also ordered steak tacos which had a lot of flavor. Everything was very good and I would definitely go back again!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Each time I am in Huntington I go through a whole process of trying to find a worthwhile place to eat. After spending some time searching Yelp I find myself coming here again and again. Why? The food is some of the best in the area, the cocktails and beer selection is always quality, I like the space and the service is always on point. Last night I ordered the "Country Club" although it's a simple chicken sandwich it was made perfectly with such great flavor - grilled chicken, french brie, green apple, lemony arugula, bacon and champagne honey mustard combo is a winner! Their burgers are some of the best around and during happy hour they do a burger and draft beer for $10 which is a phenomenal deal! Their fries and onion rings are awesome. Love their tacos, Brussels sprouts and crispy baby artichokes. Although I haven't tried everything on the menu (yet!) I would have confidence it will be delicious. I often get a beer (or 2...3..) since they have a great rotating draft selection where it seems LI faves Barrier and Sand City always have a home. Although the cocktails are always new and inventive they aren't given pretentious names - they go by the prominent liquor such as tequila, mezcal, vodka, etc... So just order your liquor of choice and enjoy whatever they give you because it will most likely be stellar! Service is always great and friendly. The space is very cool with large garage doors that open so it feel like an open air space, but there is also seating directly outside. Simply put, The Rust & Gold is my favorite place to hang when I am in Huntington - check it out and it will probably be yours as well!

Allison K.

Yelp
Amazing chicken sandwich and burgers. One of the best restaurants in Huntington. The staff is super friendly and the ambiance is very chill.
google avatar

Arline B.

Yelp
I love coming here when the weather is nice. I love the indoor outdoor feel of this place. The drinks are well made and beautiful. The food is delicious and the service is great.
google avatar

Kristin M.

Yelp
Service was not good, but I would literally go back just for their Spinach Artichoke dip. It was incredible. That's where it ends for me though. The Wings were just meh, too burnt for my taste and not enough sauce (we got original and Parmesan garlic) I also didn't love the blue cheese that came with it. The Golden Onion was just ok. Husband thought the LI Chopped Cheese Burger was good, though.
google avatar

Juliana G.

Yelp
I've been visiting Rust & Gold since they opened a few years ago and they truly never disappoint. During COVIS they do a great job of controlling the crowd and have some outdoor seating available also. I recently tried their crispy Brussel sprouts - SO GOOD! This is a great spot for some good cocktails and yummy apps. Would highly recommend!

Trace L.

Yelp
They threw away my card and tried blaming me for it. Worst customer service. The only rational people in there are the body guards.

Yelp
Bingo Scam? Went for the Tuesday Bingo Night with food & drinks. The hostess that greeted and seated us also won the top prize (a TV) at bingo! She had at least a dozen bingo sheets but we certainly did not see her buy a dozen drinks(as the rules went for the paying customers of 1 sheet for every drink purchase)Food and drinks tasted great but the bingo left a bad taste. 3 stars for food. 0 stars for the bingo. Update -Thanks for the quick response and clarification. Very nice that your own staff would spend so much money to join Bingo night. Still not a good look for a business when a prize is won by employees, whichever way you spin it. FYI

Yelp
Arrived here on a Saturday night, it was a little crowded (and loud) with a birthday party going on inside but they were still able to sit us at a table outside. I was very intrigued by their drink menu, they have a few fun cocktails on there in addition to a fishbowl, which consists of fresh watermelon, lime, thyme, and rum. I insisted on trying the fishbowl because it sounded pretty delicious. The drink was very good, but unfortunately consisted of 80% ice, and 20% actual drink. If I were to order it again I would ask to go a bit light on the ice, otherwise you're better off ordering a regular cocktail. I had also ordered the summer salad, with my boyfriend ordering the hot honey chicken sandwich. The summer salad was good, but the portion side was pretty small. It was almost sort of a snack sized salad, but after drinking a fishbowl the salad had filled me up. The hot honey chicken was very good. The chicken was nicely fried with a spicy honey like kick. It was also served with pickles which added a nice touch. Overall, I had a nice experience here despite the drink and the small salad portion. The staff was very friendly. The girl (I forgot her name) with the strawberry blonde hair was very nice and made sure everything was good with us. I also liked the ambiance and the palm trees that are outside.

Yelp
Love this place! My husband and I stopped by during happy hour (they have some discounts on drinks from 4-7!). I ordered the frosé but our server mentioned the machine wasn't up and running yet. I was bummed but a few minutes later, she came over with a "makeshift" frosé-all the same ingredients but with crushed ice on the house. Super nice of her. We shared: Smokey Honey wings (perfectly crispy and the sauce was awesome) Crispy Chicken Sandwich (we got it hot honey chicken style and it did not disappoint) Sully's Catch (fried cod tacos-Fried but not greasy and somehow "light") All the food was SO good. I can't wait to go back and try everything else. Service and atmosphere is great too.

Yelp
Always a fun time at Rust and Gold! Staff is always very helpful and super chill. They've got a huge and ever changing drink menu. Lots of craft and local beers as well as mixed drink specials. One of the best features of this bar are all the board games. Connect 4 is a personal favorite but there is also a huge Jenga which is best played out front in the summer time. There's a cool photo booth in the corner which is always fun. Shuffleboard is another option...I could hang out in this place for hours! Only thing I've ever eaten here was a double cheeseburger at about 1am. It was fresh, tasty and in that moment, absolutely glorious!! My current go to spot in the village for a relaxed and fun time!

Yelp
It was our first time here had a great time and everything was so delicious and different then your regular bar food. They put a twist on everything and the quality was great. The atmosphere was fun and lively, the service was great and the drinks and food were delicious. We ordered the Huntington pride burger, country club hoagie , smash burger, and steak sandwich (can't go wrong all of them were so flavorful and juicy) and also chicken bites (amazing!) and Buffalo chicken dip (so good!). We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Sandwiches are a bit pricey for what you get. Drinks were cute, but seemingly limited. This place has a hipster twist on it's menu, which I don't mind. The music was a bit loud and the table was very wobbly. We stuffed something under one of the legs to help. Also I would avoid sitting near the front in the winter since the glass does not keep in the heat.

Yelp
If ambiance was the only thing that mattered in a bar/restaurant then there are times when five stars would be an easy hand out. Unfortunately, that's not always the case with a place. In the matter of The Rust & Gold, I got a combo of those sentiments. Sentiment numero uno is that aforementioned ambiance/decor. Wow! The R&G has this crazy cool theming going on. It feels like some old school gymnasium/locker room/game hall with hints at contemporary eating. It's as if you took the space and decided to serve alcohol (and food) out of it. Great music played the whole time we were there. I also love the fact that they have their own coins (i.e. Barcade) to play their slew of arcade and table-style games. I did lose one or two due to some confusion in the choosing of something to play within one of the arcade machines so there is some flaw here. But for the most part, it's a fantastic feature. Bonus: a few shelves of board games. Sentiment numero dos is the drinkable portion. At this point, I should mention that when I visited with my girlfriend (on my B-Day!) we were coming just to grab a drink (we already stuffed ourselves in Vauxhall). Despite some tasty-sounding grub, I can't speak to that portion of The Rust & Gold (yet). Now with the drinks, Yelp introduced me to this place via their Cocktail Classic with an R&G mixture that I voted for as one of my favorites. Flash forward to that birthday evening and I was feeling a brew. I went for the namesake beer: Rust & Gold's own Blonde Ale. It was good. Nothing more to really say about it. Continuing down that libation boulevard, we reach my girlfriend who decided on a cocktail (after striking out on lack of cider options). The choices are intriguingly interesting and shows why the place was featured (and partially won!) at Yelp's CC. As for what my GF ordered, it was mostly just odd. A small beaker-shaped drink that honestly tasted like the alcohol was missing (two bartenders worked on it before it was completed so anything's possible). It looked cool, but that was about it. Overall, The Rust & Gold is something that I don't feel completely finished with (mostly because I need to come back and eat here to get a true, solid review). Being introduced to them via Yelp was great, and aesthetically, the place is incredibly awesome. Now I just need a little more in the drink department and for those edibles to hit a home run (a little sports pun while we're here) and we'll be in business. It all balances out to about a 3.5 experience (rounded up). I have a strong desire to return (maybe in the warmer months) so here's hopin' the ambiance isn't the only reason I enjoy it.

Yelp
I hate to write anything other than a positive review especially in these times, but being that hygiene is especially important these days, I had to let others know of my experience. I came here a few nights ago after hearing rave reviews. After waiting 40-ish minutes for a table, we were finally called back and walked inside. The bouncer at the door asked for ID (I'm well over drinking age, but fine). I held up my ID but apparently that wasn't good enough. He needed to hold it (which kind of grossed me out because he was not washing his hands in between touching others IDs). To make matters worse, there was no hand sanitizer on the table. After we ordered, we were brought our drinks and some silverware. The napkin surrounding the silverware (as well as the silverware itself) was NOT washed and it looked as if it was used and then re-wrapped (see pic). Absolutely disgusting ESPECIALLY IN THESE TIMES. After that, I was really grossed out, so although the waitress brought me new silverware, I was hesitant to eat my food. We ate a few fries, paid the check and left shortly after. On the bright side, the fries were awesome.
