The 13 Best Restaurants In Brighton & Hove - London - The Infatuation

"Welcome to Brighton’s fishiest Ralph Lauren campaign. This is a fancy seafront restaurant where anniversaries are celebrated over whole lobsters and graduations are toasted with clinking glasses of Veuve Clicquot. The classic seafood options will hit the spot if you want to look at the sea while enjoying something that once lived in it. But the service can feel a little bit like you’re playing a game of telephone with the most popular kids in school, so for a more fuss-free scallop fest, opt for a seat out on the terrace. Dutifully sniff the salt air and focus on romanticising your life with sea views and a wholesome spread—we like the Sunday ‘reef and beef’ sharer the best." - heidi lauth beasley

We had a fantastic lunch here mid week. The food quality is quite simply outstanding, and as for the shellfish I have to say we were delighted. My wife and I have just returned from a 2 month stay in the Algarve's biggest fishing port where seafood and fresh fish is obviously plentiful so we were wondering how we would fare on our return to the UK after that. We were not disappointed, the XL prawns were locally sourced, fresh and absolutely delicous. The ribeye steak was perfectly cooked and the Piri-piri Monkfish my wife had was also excellent. It's not cheap, but it's more than a meal - it's an experience - the wines, top class service and ambiance all adds to it and the hosts clearly take great pride in what they do, so it's worth paying the extra if you can afford it. They claim it's Brighton's best seafood restaurant and I have no reason to doubt that. It's certainly a high bar. Looking forward to coming back one day, sadly we don't get to Brighton more than once a year.

I visited The Salt Room with my wife tonight for her birthday. We were greeted at the door by a French Manager who was very friendly, with a great accent. He sat us at a lovely table by the window and made sure we were very well looked after. Our waiter was Gabor, who similarly was very friendly and genuinely only interested to ensure we had a lovely experience. He filleted out fish in front of us and took time to recommend all the specials. The food was absolutely fantastic. My favourite of all the dishes was the dover sole. Even the desserts at the end were fantastic. We will definitely be back soon and would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Fantastic food, but absolutely the staff made our evening so special. It felt like nothing was too much trouble for them.

We basically came to Brighton again just for the oysters specifically. The oyster quality here is not the best, maybe average to my standard. But accidentally we found the scallops are real surprise!! Super tasty and the seasoning is quite unfamiliar but interesting (in a good way). Lobster quality is quite good, juicy and tender meat, well cracked so it’s not super hard to eat. Besides the food, atmosphere and overall vibe is good. Only thing is it’s a bit busy so could be noisy sometimes

This place had been on our bucket list for a long time and we had booked months in advance. Sadly I have to say we were deeply disappointed with the Salt room. We arrived and were shown to our table. We ordered the scallops and the ceviche as starters and the monk fish to share. The starters were very good. From Here on our experience went down hill very fast! The monk fish, £60 to share, we were given a side plate each and no way of serving the sauce and to be honest I would have expected a little garnish, even if it was just chopped parsley! Overall the food was ok as seen in the pictures. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the service, we watched with glee as the table opposite us were pandered to topping up there wine, engaging with conversation asking if everything was ok, we had nothing! No interaction of any kind with our waiter. My wife never complains, but thought today she would, She was told by the maitre’d that “well it was his birthday yesterday and may be he shouldn’t be in work today! We were asked if we wanted a drink as way of an apology, to which we didn’t agree but were given, we then started to talk to the couple on the table opposite us and explained our experience to them, whilst doing so our waiter was swooped out, although by then we had finished our meal. The maitre’d then comes to our table and asked us to leave stating “we require your table back NOW”. As we were leaving he turned to us both and said the we were black listed and must never return! As we had spoken to the couple on the opposite table. To say we were both gobsmacked is an understatement! We have never been treated like this in our lives and will not ever consider going back. What a totally over rated over priced pretentious establishment!

Fantastic place with an amazing variety of seafood. We went for the surfboard with is 40£ per person and added on a few dishes around that. The amount of food was perfect. Everything tasted absolutely amazing. Our waiter was really funny and helpful. We are definitely looking forward to come back as soon as possible.

This is seafood dining at its finest! I went for a birthday celebration with my partner. Upon arrival we were met by the maitre d', and although he seemed a little cold at first he was actually very nice. John/Jean our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive, he answered any questions whilst offering recommendations. He even double checked about my partner's gluten intolerance and made suggestions to accommodate her. We both had a Takamaka cocktail, both were great. I had the scallops and my partner had the grilled octopus for starters, both were delicious! For our mains, there was only once choice for me- The Turbot. Cooked to absolute perfection, meaty and rich which went perfectly with the herby Morghew Farm Ratte Potatoes. My partner had the half lobster and I was told that it was equally as epic. All in all, some of the finest seafood, in a great setting (it's literally on the seafront!) and very friendly staff. Yes, it's a little on the expensive side, but totally worth it!

We visited recently to celebrate my daughter’s graduation. We had an excellent time. Our waitress was amazing and she really looked after us. Food was good but we felt portions were a bit on the smaller size. It does not matter. We had an incredible time! They even brought my daughter a complimentary dessert to celebrate her graduation. Thank you so much.

We had the absolute best evening at The Salt Room, and it honestly became one of our most memorable dinners ever all thanks to Jean, who looked after us so thoughtfully from the moment we arrived. We kicked things off with cocktails before we’d even sat down. I went for the ginger martini, which had a great kick and that spicy salt on the rim was such a nice touch. My partner had the rosé sangria, which was light, smooth, and totally refreshing. We were already having fun before we even made it to the table! We got seated at the perfect spot ie half indoors, half outdoors, which gave us the best of both worlds: cosy warmth inside with that fresh sea breeze and a bit of Brighton buzz on the outside. It was the kind of table you hope for. To start, Jean recommended the Portland crab and Nutbourne tomato salad crostini, and the seared scallops with garlic and sherry butter. Both were absolutely delicious light, elegant, and a perfect match for our cocktails. The scallops were especially dreamy. For mains, we both ordered the 36-day aged ribeye with prawns, and shared sides of seaweed salt fries, seasonal greens, and cauliflower with garlic, chilli, and parsley dressing. Everything was cooked perfectly and bursting with flavour. Jean recommended a bottle of Minervois, Les Bonnes, Château d’Agel to go with it, and it was spot on as he described spicy, bold and smooth, just like the steak needed. Jean was amazing throughout always checking in at the right time, topping up our wine (ensuring our glasses were never empty as he said “not under my watch” 😆), making sure we had everything we needed. You could really tell he loves what he does, especially when it comes to wine his recommendations were just so on point. We were way too full for dessert after a very late afternoon tea, but we still wanted a little something sweet to finish. Jean recommended a glass each of Sauternes and a Barros Late Bottled Vintage both were incredible. And then, the sweetest surprise: he brought over a little chocolate truffle for my birthday. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made the night feel that little bit more special. Honestly, this whole experience just hit all the right notes amazing food, perfect atmosphere, and one of the best service experiences we have had in a long time. Jean truly made our evening, and we already can’t wait to go back.

Yelp
The service was excellent, the food was delicious, great location and our waiter (a French gentleman) provided superior service. He was patient and very informative about the options offered on the menu as well as the specials. I believe his name was Franck. Kudos to Franck for making our dining experience such a wonderful event.

Yelp
We were seated in the best place and the "tapas" were phenomenal. We ordered octopus, my first time and ended up ordering a second. Delicious.

Yelp
My husband and I went there for dinner. Although we didn't make an reservation. We were seated almost immediately. The starter we choose was the fresh scallops. We both had pan fried fish. It was so delicious. Follow by dessert. Overall all dishes are outstanding. The staff were friendly and attentive. The setting was casual and comfortable.

Yelp
Been meaning to head here for over a year but mixed reviews and the lack of a special occasion have meant we only got to go yesterday for our sons 1 month anniversary with 7 of us in total. Got to say it was worth the wait. The venue is one of the nicest I think of many of the restaurants in Brighton, and more importantly now that we have a buggy with us permanently it's spacious. A nice oval booth had a really nice feel and they must have dropped some serious cash on the refit. Top marks. The food was also great, beautifully presented and whilst the main menu can get pricey there is also a set menu that is much more reasonable at about £15 for two courses and £20 for three. We were also aloud to pick bits from the the set menu that weren't on the main which was good. The starters were divine (I had chicken livers) and the sharing surfboard was pretty impressive looking. A bit of a ball ache to eat as you have to de-shell the crab etc yourself which I'm not that into but if you like getting dirty when eating it's right up your ally. The fish curry and chips were also great. I'd heard about the seaside desert before hand and really wanted to try it. It's looks spectacular and elements of it are great but I found a lot of it so sweet and sugary it was a bit too much. The mini donut was amazing though. Will definitely be going back when I'll probably try a less messy main and one of the other deserts which all looked amazing. It worked out about £55 a head with a couple of beers each and a bottle of wine between 7 of us so not as extortionate as I'd been led to believe but definitely on the higher end. But you do get what you pay for. Check it out.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding! We booked the salt room for our anniversary and it was everything we wanted and more, perfect for a special occasion. We had octopus to start, which was delicious and perfectly cooked, then the surf board platter to share and honestly, it was some of the best seafood I've ever had! Langoustine, prawns, scallops, mussels and crab claws, all perfectly fresh and very very tasty. Even the bread on the side was very good! What made The salt room really stand out was the staff - incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive without being overbearing. They really made us feel special. I would highly recommend this place for a special occasion.

Yelp
Enjoyed the meal. Had clams and ceviche to start. Both good and the ceviche had a nice citrus flavor. My daughter had the lamb which was coupled with different and flavorful sides. I had the Hake which was a mild and flaky white fish. Both were extremely good. Service was great and the waitress spent time helping decide on wine and fish. Overall very good food and nice experience sitting outside looking at the sea.

Yelp
Night's out are a bit of a rarity these days, since the little one came along, so when my partner and I got a chance to come to The Salt Room on a work night out, we bagged a babysitter and jumped at the change to eat out in a restaurant again - a real treat these days! Plus we had heard great things about The Salt Rooms and couldn't wait to try them out. We arrived early and grabbed a cocktail at the bar. We both went for a Sussex Royal which was a delightful combination of Prosecco and sloe gin, with flavours of cherry and citrus. A perfect aperitif. To be honest, I would be perfectly happy to sit at the bar and sample a few of their cocktails without even having a meal here. However, on this occasion, we were here for the food. The menu heavily favours steak and fish, and the majority of our table went for the Black Angus rib-eye steak cooked on the josher charcoal grill. Being the only female on the table, I wasn't going to be outdone by the boys and I went for the 400g as opposed to the 250g. The steak was good, but as I so often find when eating out, there was nothing exceptional about it. We have better steak at home for a fraction of the price and I do wonder how they justify the £32 price tag. Luckily on this occasion, I wasn't paying! Before the steak, I had the crab starter which was a bit of a disappointment as there was far more mayo-style sauce than actual crab meat, I definitely wouldn't re-order this dish. Unfortunately, we had to leave before dessert, due to babysitter restrictions, which was a shame as the menu looked very tempting. The atmosphere was good and the service was exceptional. We had a lovely Australian waitress who was helpful, friendly and chatty. However, the restaurant as a whole didn't quite live up to the hype so although it was a nice night out, we will definitely try somewhere else next time the opportunity arises.

Yelp
Having had a browse through 'the prefect restaurant' to end my holiday for my extended getaway trip to Brighton, I decided to opt for The Salt Room as it was close to my hotel. I was rather intrigued by the sleek modern interior from outside and their amazing selection of seafood. We jumped into the main course with some mussel curry sauce and naan bread. The overall food was delicious but could have required a pinch more sea salt. I was impressed by their wine selection and experimental desserts. Would go there again anytime!

Yelp
8.10pm on a Tuesday night, restaurant half empty but wouldn't seat a table of six. Computer says no, so English you couldn't make it up.

Yelp
I went here for dinner when in town for my mothers funeral. The food was excellent and the waitstaff was incredible and accommodating.

Yelp
The four stars is for how amazing my steak and potatoes were. Like truly delicious. But the 5th star wasn't given because of the prices. Little crazy - but it is a fancy high quality restaurant. The kind of place that charges ten dollars for an appetizer with two bites worth of food on a plate. I came here for my last night in Brighton. My friend got rabbit pie and it was so tasty. They definitely know how to cook - just not for a college students budget! The atmosphere is beautiful. Right on the sea front and beautiful interior lighting.

Yelp
Got the roast here on a lovely weekend away in Brighton and was very pleased. We called last minute as well and got seated. It was lush! Reminded us of Hawksmoore roast dinner in London, which is one of our favourites. They charged me £2 for horseradish though which is just ... Weird and greedy because that should just come with the roast! They needed more gravy for sure, they got extra for us no problem, but the gravy boat is tiny! Like for steak sauce. The meat was delicious and very generous portions. The veg was yummy too especially the cauliflower cheese. Would def return when we're back in town.

Yelp
Where do I start? Amazing imaginative menu, friendly staff and beautiful atmosphere. An absolute must do for any Brighton visitor.

Yelp
very fresh fish restaurant. Shared the seabass for two -- cooked perfectly. A little pricey but great experience.
